I've only had one other android phone, and that was an Atrix. I got about 12 hours from each charge and 2 hours screen time--- compared to when I first got it when I got 20 hours and 3 hours screentime.
It seems like this galaxy note is going to be the same way so far -- although i REALLY want to be bale to get 30hrs and 5hrs screen time. Let's see if I can

Wow...Really? I had the Atrix as well and could get well over 30 hours of charge on it after about a year. The first few months I was seeing between 12 and 20 hours. For me it seemed the longer I had it the better the battery life was.
I'd frequently have it unplugged from 6 AM to 1 AM daily and have 60% left. That may be because all my usage came over a consolidated period of time and the rest of the time was light usage.
My first Android phone was the original Droid...I was able to coax around 24 hours out of it...but I was rooted with a custom ROM and a LV overclock kernel for it.
I'm hoping that I can get at least 14 hours with the Note on the same sort of routine...not so much this week because I don't want to put it down! LOL...my usage has gone from Light/Moderate to HEAVY...I fully expect to be able to hit this after a few more charge cycles (provided my usage goes back to normal...with the screen size I can see myself using this more than the Atrix, so we'll just have to see).
Over 20 hours of use with wifi, Bluetooth, LTE, auto-brightness, web browsing, video playing, texting, emailing and forum posting.
Yea, that's 5h 14m "screen on" time, too. 5.3 inch LTE device with those battery stats - yea, I'm happy. If your expectations are any higher you're delusional. 100% stock.

I want to select 14-16, but in this poll are you implying that at 16 hours I need to hit the charger or turn it off? This is rather subjective because I have a few friends that consider a phone "dead" the minute it hits 30%. Hell even the custom power saving profile is defaulted to kick in at 30%.
16 hours from my workday wake up time is only 11PM. I'd like to think if I decide to go out on the weekends I don't need to worry about charging up unless I've been using the phone like crazy throughout the day.
So we are at 10-12 hours so far in the poll. I hope we can get more input.
It's just $25 for TWO (semi-decent) spare batteries and a charger on Amazon... so no worries!
That said, the first few days with this phone have been rough! I've been using it so damn much that I have to plug it in at just 6 or 7pm when I get home from work. (DOH!) I'm sure my usage will go down a little after the honeymoon period wears off (maybe?). Luckily, though, my spare batteries are set to arrive today... so it's all good!

Please state also if you are using any modifications (ex. SetCPU, JuiceDefender, Various Kernels)
I have been able to get 6 hours and 40 minutes of display time before the battery shuts off. I was watching back to back Seinfeld Episodes on Moboplayer.
When I first got my phone I installed some emulators, and started playing Pokemon (never played back when it was popular). I got 4 hours of display on straight one Saturday afternoon while playing Pokemon Sapphire. I was astonished to see that I still had more than 50% battery left when I closed the emulator.

display-on time is the thing i always look for in a device and try to get better each time. if you read the anandtech review of the atrix, they got like 8 hours of web browsing time which was the top dog except the iphone 4 being higher (at 11 hours).
They must have had a magical iPhone 4 then. I have had 2 iPhone 4's and never got the battery life I have with the Atrix. Plus, I never used "background data" on the iPhone but I do on the Atrix. Regardless, I don't use phones for videos or games or anything like that (never did) but I have had my Atrix over 70 hours off a single charge with almost 3 hours of display time if that's any consolation.

My highest was 2 days ago.. 7 hours display time on a little over 24 hours. This was after following the instructions in the battery life thread that have you pull the battery after its charged to 100%, then reinsert it when the missing battery icon displays. I let it charge for an extra 2 hours after doing this and battery calibration now shows 4203mV at 100% charge..my battery life is now amazing.

Are you using any extra applications to save battery? SetCPU? JuiceDefender?
Last night I reached 2 hours of display time with 72% battery left. All wifi web browsing.
I've not been able to drain this thing since I got it a week and a half ago. I have to say that I like to charge things over night. I've not been able to get the Photon below 40% before I go to bed each night.
I hear that you need to drain it full at least once but my habit of charging things overnight is getting in the way. Should I just let it go overnight one night?
I was under the impression that completely draining Lithium Ion batteries causes more harm than good.
"The smaller the depth of discharge, the longer the battery will last. If at all possible, avoid frequent full discharges and charge more often between uses. If full discharges cannot be avoided, try utilizing a larger battery. Partial discharge on Li-ion is fine; there is no memory and the battery does not need periodic full discharge cycles other than to calibrate the fuel gauge on a smart battery."

Also, i'm sitting at 46% after 15 hours of normal (for me) use. not to shabby. I should mention i'm running Juice Defender and build 4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_5 from the dev. forums and i'm connected to WiFi 90% of the time.
going to try tomorrow without Juice Defender and see how it does. After that i'm going to disable SPB Shell and see if that makes a difference.
Thank you sir. I don't want to root my phone so don't run Juice Defender but I do use the Data Saver in stock a lot. I usually just listen to a lot of music and look for new stuff on FB, check XDA forums blah blah blah, yada yada yada...
I'll not feel paranoid about charging my phone now lol.
Now with my tablet (Acer Iconia A500) I did root and load a bunch of different stuff. This is my first cell phone though and I didn't want to mess with something that I have to pay a monthly charge for. I know I could but it's my first cell phone lol.
How much are you guys using it? For me, I use about 30min talking, 1 hr heavy wifi use, 1 hr light wifi use (reading), 30 minutes playing with settings, and the rest of the day idle...that gets me to about 30%.
I actually thought that is kind of weak. Maybe my battery isn't as healthy as yours? I've only had it for 5 days. I charge it every night.
I use it for about 7 to 8 hours of music, FB updates/posting, checking XDA, about 10 minutes of calls and so far some Netflix watching just to show off the phone to my peeps. Oh and some picture taking.
I am the same way I hate to discharge it completely and its been very hard. I've went a day and a half without charging before it went under 10%. I will say that I am on Wifi 90% of the time as I have wifi at work and at home other than that its on performance mode so no true bells and whistles. I'm thoroughly impressed coming from the Evo.

Average day for me is about 30 to 45 minutes of phone calls, 80 to 100 texts, few conversations on google talk, 30 or so emails on three accounts and i have trillian running connected to two accounts.
Connected to WiFi most of the time, bluetooth is turned on (not connected most the time) and brightness set to Auto.
I really dont see how this phone is a monster when it comes to battery life, I've actually been getting the exact opposite. I just fully charged my phone and after running for 2hrs and 7mins its down 78%.... This phone has yet to last me for the whole day. What am i doing wrong? I dont have tons of widgets and the only app that im running that might pose a problem is Go Launcher

Is that your screen on time? If that is then I would say that is impressive already. When I had the epic on stock if I use it for 2ish hours screen on time. I would need a recharge. (Got a lot better after using custom rom. Around 4 hrs screen on time before recharge)

Yes, but what's your battery status at the end of this average day? 20%? 30%? 10%?
+1 for an awesome battery!

For the past couple of weeks I've been swapping batteries with an external charger one to two times during the course of a day (plus the overnight charge)... Looks like it's time to do some housekeeping...
Edit: used to have battery life like everyone else in this thread though! While at the climbing gym last night I noticed that the thing felt like it was about to catch fire against my thigh - it had burned through about 60 percent of a freshly charged battery in about two hours. I have a nagging suspicion that I neglected to uninstall something (or a few things), and now something non-existent is constantly being polled for as a service after I launch some app for the first time...
when i got my phone it did great on a full day charge, but now with it just sitting at the office its at 70% by 11am i take it off the charger 7-8am .. it started to "weaken" after i downloaded a ton of apps i leave wifi on and 4g off but it also depends on your signal strenght at home it will kill the phone halfway thru the day because i have one bar
Ever since I installed cm7 stable, my battery wont get to 4200mv, max is 4191 after 10 hrs on charger. Is this a sign of a bad battery or a bug within the rom? I forced it to show 100% by doing the battery pull while plugged in trick, but I've never come across anyone not reaching full mv when doing this just the not showing 100% search didn't result in anyone with the mv issue just the % issue. Anyone know what maybe be the issue?
The only time you'll see 4200mv is when you're plugged in to the charger and the phone things the battery is full. Battery cells degrade so the battery is pretty much never going to hold 100% of it's capacity.
Honestly 4191mv is pretty good. I'm usually around 4160mv or so after coming off the charger unless I need to do a calibration.
how long does battery last on a blur-based stock non-overclocked rom? 4 days? 5?

I never got even 16 hours out of mine on stock. In fact even on custom roms im barely getting from wake up in the morning to before bed at night. I'd say from 7am to 10pm before I have to plug in. I am on it probably a total of 5 of those hours with 3 games I play, looking at xda about 10 times a day and the occasional call.
Is that 5 hours of screen time? If so, I would personally say that sounds pretty good. I've always got about 24 hours standby and maybe 3 hours screen time on most ROMs.
Mine goes from 6.15 (when I unplug it) to 15.00 draining 20% o so power... it's mostly idle, with occasional whatsapp and email, data always on. Then, from 15 i start using it pretty hard (an hour of wifi, installing/removing things from market, playing max payne and mc3 online, etc) and it can made through the day (in fact, I usually play a lot on bedtime, so i can drain the remaining battery (about 40, 30%) and recrage it overnight. I can't complain, mi milestone (AKA motorola droid) was lucky if it could make it the whole day Considering the massive display, the dual-core and the amount of ram (including the apps running in background) it's petty impressive

Yup that's screen on time. Idk it just seems like it could go longer but such is life. Lol
I'm actually quite baffled. Max I've had is around 20 hours with 4 hours of on screen time. People get around 2 days with 5 hours of battery life. How is that possible?

If you cannot cope with average one day battery life buy a dumb phone .
Often these users with long battery life do not put up the true facts .
Two days since i last charged and 76% left .
But i have not had everything running all that time .
jje
Screen on time is a slightly better indicator, but even that varies quite a bit; reading an ebook = 9hrs, playing games/browsing = 4hrs. Leaving on the shelf in airplane mode = 8 days, but what use is that?
Best battery saver I've found is Greenify, kills all the useless and sloppy coding that eats your battery but the app still works when you need it.
I thought of the same. Just wanted to confirm. Thanks.
- Lowest brightness
- 2G Only
- Wifi, Gps off, all motion gestures and active view off
- lots of bloatware removed
- whatsapp auto dl photos off
I can get 3 days with stock battery and 2 days of hard use.
lol I could get 3 days without touching the phone.
I do believe that 4hrs screen time is pretty decent.
hell I can even get to 3hrs....so I have a spare battery with me 24/7
Hi Everyone,
I'm just wondering if I have an issue or not. I've already went through one G5 which was severely overheating and was giving me less than 2 hours of screen on time within the first week. I'm on my second G5 now and have had it a little over a week, but the screen on time seems to be dropping drastically. When I first got it, I have a SOT of 5+ hours. Then it got progressively worse until yesterday it barely made it to 3 hours and today it was under 3 hours. I'm a fairly heavy user, but it seems like I can literally watch the battery percentage tick by when I have the screen on. In fact, it seems like it's markedly worse when the battery is under 50%. For example, today at 50% I had a SOT of about 2 hours 15 minutes, and then for the last 50% it was like 45 minutes TOPS before it was drained. My standby time is absolutely amazing, with it losing less that 1% in five hours.
I just don't know what to do. I have 5 more days before I can exchange it no questions asked. I just see some people with 7+ hours SOT and it seems like mine is heading in the opposite direction.
Cheers,
Bloody
3-4hrs of SOT is average/normal
3 hours of SOT is on par, or very slightly subpar, with other users. Some, like me, get a bit more, but just because i do not use Facebook, or games. You should consider which apps you are using, if there's something always on and in "Sync" it's gonna eat up the battery a bit more. If you game a lot, same. That said, this is not a huge battery, but it should be big enough to get to bed. Can i suggest maybe (i know its obvious...but!) cleaning up the recent apps, taking more care in switching on and off the wifi...this kind of things could get you 30+min more in a day which could be enough to get trough the night.
To answer your question, you probably have not a defective unit. If this SOT time is not even close to what you need, the brightness of the screen poses a big problem for you, and you don't care as much for the awesome camera compartment, or the swappable battery, and you dont hate touchwiz, and you can return it no question asked, the s7edge has better battery time, and higher brightness and saturation.
I average 3 hr SOT. It's normal. Total 13.75 hours on average with 5.5 hrs active.
With the brightness about 30%, I could have about 4 to 5 hours browsing web with wifi...
