[Q] Not able to create recovery & install custom ROM - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had my Hero installed with Elelinux 7(gingerbread) and did not have a back up of my official ROM. Recently I moved to an RUU ROM (Build number 3.31.720.4), now i'm planning to move to CM7 but im not able to boot into the recovery mode. I have rooted my phone now but still not able to boot into recovery mode. When i boot in Hboot it says some files are missing. What all things do i need to do now Hboot, fastboot, S-OFF etc.,
I'm planning to install a OTA ROM hoping that will help me. Please advise?

The easiest way to fix this is to download and install rom manager, then flash "clockworkmod recovery" then simply click "reboot into recovery".

G2 Recovery Disaster - Help!!! ><

Early today, I was working on a G2 trying to get it rooted with a custom ROM installed. I managed to root the phone and disable the bootloader security. From here, I attempted to install clockwork recovery via rom manager... here's where the disaster starts.
Everything seemed to be going well (no errors), so I tried to load a custom ROM. The Rom installation started but failed partway through. This is when I noticed that the clockwork recovery wasn't working properly. It was flickering and none of the options worked (screen just flashed or turned black if you selected anything). So at this point, the phone would not boot since the ROM installation didn't complete, and I had a buggy recovery image installed.
Unfortunately, the fun doesn't stop here. I figured that I should load the PC10IMG.zip and start from scratch... bad idea. This flashed the bootloader (relocking it) then failed-- leaving me with a bad ROM, bad recovery image, and a locked bootloader. Luckily for me, I was able to use adb via the buggy recovery to unlock the bootloader again.
At this point, I got a bit antsy and jumped the gun. I decided to use fastboot to erase and load a new recovery image. Unfortunately, I realized that I didn't have a recovery.img file to flash... just after I used the fastboot erase recovery command.
I'm hoping that someone here has a recovery.img file compatible with the T-Mobile G2 so I can flash the recovery partition with fastboot. If anyone has any better ideas I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Install amon recovery. It's much better then clockword. Do it using adb
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Just an update. I couldn't get into adb but I was able to flash clockwork via fastboot. For whatever reason, the amon recovery would go through. Nevertheless, I installed cyanogen using clockwork and everything is gravy!

Go to twrp site and download the latest image which is 1.1.1.img and flash it using fastboot all should be well.
If you HTC unlocked, you have to flash everything other than ROMs through fastboot.
That means kernels, recoveries, splash screens, etc. have to flashed through fastboot.
In your case you would download the twrp 1.1 image and enter 'fastboot flash recovery twrp.img'

Have you tried to get there via hboot? DO you have TWRP on your phone? if you don't have TWRP get "goo manager" from the play store, you can put twrp on your phone that way, if you do have twrp boot into bootloader and try to go to recovery from there. Any rom you flash will give you root, as long as it's a custom rom

When you go to bootloader, and then select recovery, what is it doing?
Red Triangle
Stock recovery, you need to reflash twrp. Go to Teamwin and download the update for twrp
go to my thread. follow every step. I guarantee this works even on the new hboot 2.09:

[Q] please helpppp! bricked my evo!

Hi Everybody,
I unlock the bootloader of my HTC view, I also did install the recovery as
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414137
Then I jumped to install the custom rom (forgot to the S-off first), and I could not! and the existing rom is gone as well.
Now I am restarting into a black screen. I do not have a nandroid backup!
I saw a thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038638
that means I need to install a ruu! but the links are not working, if that is the case, can anybody please provide me with a working link?
Thanks,
I believe you can download a ROM, has to be same android version as the one you were on last, so GB or honeycomb. Copy the boot.IMG from the ROM into the same directory as your fast boot commands
Get into recovery flash ROM
Get into fast boot and
Open cmd on PC
Get to your adb directory
Enter
Fastboot flash boot boot.IMG
Or
Find a ROM that does not have a custom kernel
Or hope someone will upload your ruu
Flyer
If you unlocked your bootloader at htcdev.com you don't need to s-off your device! Just download any custom ROM that meet the requirements of your Flyer, enter into recovery by pressing power and volume down button, wipe everything, copy custom ROM you downloaded into the flashcard and flash it. That's it. Smooth flashing!!!

Yes, I unlocked it on htcdev.com, and I have two roms (ICS and GC) but none works, after flashing those in recovery, a black screen comes up right after htc logo and nothing happens! I deleted everything, all the cashes and data and flashed these roms, no good, stuck on the black screen. any suggestions? I am even looking for a way to at least go back to my HC!
Thanks
OK. In this case let's try to revert everything back. Make shure what ROM was installed in your device (GB or HC) 1. go to http://htcruu.com/?dir=Flyer_View. 2. Download proper RUU installer. 3. Make Gold Card (just in case if downloaded wrong region RUU). 4. Boot into bootloader and start flashing downloaded RUU.
I am telling you that you can not flash an ICS or CG's JB rom because the boot.img will not flash through recovery with HTC dev unlock. were you on HC or GB prior
