hello all, just picked up the Nook Tablet (16g) - and of course i am wanting to root it. i have followed all the instructions from turning on USB debugging and updating my Drivers so the device is recognized as Android ADB (which took a long time) now i am trying to run the NookandZergy.bat file. it will not show any devices here. not sure what i am doing wrong.. i have tried several times and no joy. i am doing all of this with Win7 system if that matters ( i tried running Zergy as administrator also).
i am sure this problem has come up in the forums already but i have yet to find an answer yet.

I can't help you as far as the method you described above is concerned, but I can tell you from having rooted mine several times now that Albert's SD Card method (version 4.50) is super simple and has worked great for me. No Windows drivers to mess with, etc. He lays it out pretty straightforward. I use a 4gb SD card - can't remember if a 2gb will work or not. Give it a try if you got an sd card laying around.

thats the method i used literally after booting up tablet and making screen work i powered it down and rooted it using that image file. It all just depends on what you want if you want debloated no B&N stuff or you want stock but rooted with OTA updates blocked.
Personally I just rooted so I could install CWM and install cm7 I had no interest in stock or anything B&N.

I would like to keep B&N funcionality, but prevent OTA and be able to download/install apps from different android markets and web sites. Also, I would like to be able to unroot the device if necessary (go back to original B&N software).
Which SD method should I use (Brianf21 ?) ?
And one final question before I start the work, do I need to go through initial registration process on my brand new 16 GB NT ver 1.4.1 before starting the rooting procedure ?
I hope that rfronz1 will find this clarification useful too.

IMHO You would be better off to revert your 1.4.1 to 1.4.0 using AdamOutler's Magic SD Card and then Rooting.
At that point you can either use the method in the thread you linked OR the original Indirect Root method.
If you are on windows and have never had an android device hooked up to that computer the original method will work easily. The biggest issue it faces is the troubleshooting of the drivers when another Android device was used on the PC previously. There is however plenty of information available to help if you get stuck. The advantage of this method is it will allow you to select an alternate launcher, de-bloat B&N apps and install the OTA block. You MUST be on 1.4.0 to use this method.
The only advantage to the SD card root is that it will also help you create a ClockWorkMod (CWM) bootable SD Card. The disadvantages are you will need to install the OTA block seperatly, if you try it on 1.4.1 there are additional hoops to jump through to get side-loading supported, the files you should use are NOT in the OP and because the files have been revised several times the instructions have become convoluted. If you have read through that entire thread and are comfortable that you have pieced together all the information then you will be fine using that method.

Does anyone know a simple way to root a new Nook tablet? I've tried most of the ways on this site and others but I still can'tdo it! Most of the instructions assume that you know about certain files and programs but I can't get pass the first few set of instructon without my Nook saying that it will not give me access. I like my Nook but I would like access to the android applications. Thanks for the help!

It sounds like you don't have your drivers installed correctly. Go to This Thread and scroll down to the driver issues area.
If you can get your device to show from 'adb devices', there is no reason you shouldn't be able to achieve root.
or just use the sd cards and dont have to mess with driver. Download file, 2 clicks and makes the sd card, reboot tablet and install zip file. PROFIT!

I've rooted and reset my NT 3 times in the last 3 weeks playing with various builds. The one linked above (4.5) is the best I've found yet.
I even get Calendar to sideload without any hanky panky... which didn't work with other builds.
I can confirm, that rooting by SDCARD (i.e. with SD_ROOT_NTV4_5.zip file) is the easiest way.
I am with a Nook Tablet 16gb that was purchased with 1.4.0 and is now with 1.4.2. I was happy sideloading on 1.4.0, but now understand I have to go rooting...
I have been trying several methods, and just can't get it though. One problem is I am in Africa, and downloading 100MB images takes more than 2h and recurrently fails with size mismatches or other errors before the end

I go through all steps with no problem, run CWM. However, for the last step to install zip from CWM:
- I guess it refers to the CWM_SD_flash_and_exe.zip again? It tells me fail to install, and the log says ""failed to open /sys/class/android_usb/android0/state: no such file or directory""

I tried the 1st (non windows) approach, that was creating a partition on the SDcard myself (did with Acronis Disk Director Suite, worked well),
I did the partition, copied the required files on the root of SD card, got CWM running. But then, the tutorial says:

just put onto the /mnt/media/ directory or you can push to /emmc/ while in CWM.
I am not sure I understand these instructions... I got the Gapps_and_root.zip onto my SDcard root, used CWD mode to unzip & install it successfully.
After that I reboot... I think it asks me to reset the tablet (someway like I have no choice), and then opens the Nook wizard and I cant get anything else out of it.

I understand this thread is not supposed to be for newbies, yet I am not an expert, but every other method I tried failed (Indirect's method, etc, see here) and I am having troubles (from Africa) downloading big files, so this one I got and I am willing to try because I really need to get out of Nook rom. Though I'd love some advice
I am with a Nook 16Gb Tablet that I got with 1.4.0 and had sideloaded apps. Now it is on 1.4.2 and I have reset everyting in various previous attemps, so it is quite clean. Unrooted. I have a SD card, a disk partitionning software, and a USB cable, but no ADB.
My goal is, minimum, to be able load few apps (Kindle, a radio I like, etc), and if it is rooted and with access to Market, even better, then I'll do even more.
Luckily, I have been able to download the various files in this post.
My questions:
1> internal or SD ?
Which method you think is simplier and more stable?
2> Stable versions now?
It looks like these versions have started as beta, but been improved; Could they be considered stable now?
I saw there are other ones out there, but I could not succeed download them ("Team-B-CM7SD-Alpha_final.img_001.zip")
4> Requirements
Do I understand well there are no special requirements before starting that? Can be on unrooted device, 1.4.2?

I am not so expert and may need some help:
1. Download the file of the mod you pick
=> OK
2. Copy the zip file in the root (/) of Internal OR External SDcard (Pick one)
=> OK for external. But if you talk of internal, does it mean the tablet should already be rooted?
3. Verify md5 of the file >> ES File Explorer>Properties let you check md5
=> Is this step compulsory? How do you do that with an unrooted tablet and no ES file explorer in?
4. Boot into CWM
=> This I knew to do with Indirect method. Does it mean I should have done that before? Or the img file provided here will enable me do it ?
4.1 Go to Backup & restore>> Backup your current ROM if you haven't already
=> ok
4.2 Format system, Wipe cache, advanced>> Wipe dalvik cache
=> Is this step compulsory? How do you exactly do that, all from CWM?
4.3 Re-flash CM7 ROM
=> Does that just mean to reboot?
4.4 Flash the mod
=> Does that just mean to reboot? apparently not... then how?
5. Reboot your device. ENJOY!

I was recentlt attempting to root my Nook Tablet on 1.4.3, and came acroas a thread on this site with step-by-step instructions on how to do so. Well, to get to the point, I had already formatted the card and everything, but when I went to download the actual file for the root to the card, it said the file was not found. Does anybody know anywhere else I could find the file? Im really tired of this tablet sucking ****.

There are other root images available as well and tehre is also the option to install CM10. No root required prior to the install.

i am using this root guide from malloneem - Nook Tablet 1.4.3 complete root guide for 8or16gb to GB and JB. i have successfully rooted but my NT will not recognize that I have the .zip file - cm-7-TEAM-B-BETA1-signed.zip I've installed on a sandisk 8gb microsd. I can see the files when the sd card is in my computer but the NT says - FILE NOT FOUND when I try to load zip from sd. I've formatted and reload files several times but with no success. Am I missing a step?

I have to ask, since it may render your line of questioning somewhat moot: Is there a reason why you're trying to load such an old version of android? Why not use version 10.1 instead of 7?

Ultimately was going to install sgt7-10-20121209-meghd00t-acclaim The thread I was following recommended installing CM-7 first then CM-10. Just new enough at this I was trying to follow a simple but complete guide.
Understandable. I expect (read: hope) that an 'official' install guide will be released by the CM team as soon as it leaves release candidate status and is declared "stable". In the meantime, you might find some help here in these forums.
digixmax has particularly good instructions here. They're for version 10, not 10.1. I'm not sure if he has a 10.1 specific version but I couldn't find it in the 10 seconds I took searching for it. Just use newer versions of files as follows:
The newest version of cwm_6.0.*.*_acclaim_recovery_sdcard.img from here instead of the others in step 2b.
The newest version of CM from here instead of the one in step 2c.
The newest gapps-jb-2013* from here for step 2d.
If you run in to problems, be sure to clearly indicate exactly which steps you did (don't just say "I did all the steps").
