I've had the official Samsung MHL adapter for a few weeks now. But just recently a problem has developed. Basically WiFi no longer works when the adapter is attached. For instance I can watch Netflix through the phone, then connect it to the TV and it'll stop. I've also tested surfing, disconnected from the TV I can surf fine. But as soon as I connect the adapter nothing loads. The WiFi symbol is still visible and connected, but it won't give me any data.
As I said this wasn't a problem until very recently. I could watch Netflix on my TV through the same phone (on three different TV's). Now on the same TV's it won't work. I haven't changed the phones firmware/OS or any settings AFAIR. Also everything being used is an official Samsung product (including the power adapter in case anyone's wondering).
EDIT: Tested mobile internet (3G) and it still works with the adapter connected. But when I tried to turn WiFi back on it won't connect until I disconnected the adapter.
EDIT2: I tried just plugging in the adapter with the plug in but without having it connected to the TV, WiFi then works normally. Its only when the HDMI cable is plugged into the TV that the problem occurs. I also went into WiFi settings on my phone and noticed it was stopping at "authentication". So I disabled security on my router temporarily and then WiFi connected with everything plugged in, but still no data, web pages still won't load. This is quite baffling.
It happened to me too. Actually, I bought two identical MHL adapters (same brand, same model...) from brando workshop. With one the condition occurred. With the other one, no wifi problem at all. At that time, I assumed it was a faulty MHL cable and didn't care. But considering that you suffered from the same symptoms, I believe that further investigation would be nice. At this moment, I have no clue on what could be causing this weird behavior. Hope more people can contribute on this...

I'm having the same issue, though with a brand new generic MHL adapter...
All my searching points to using nothing but samsung MHL adapters and power bricks being a possible solution.
Also Samsung's only suggestions are wifi dropout is normal and to use samsung adapters only...
IMO this is bull****, MHL is a STANDARD now, if I have a device that meets said standard it should function without issue.
How would you feel if you bought a samsung laptop and the USB ports only work right with samsung mice and keyboards even though they advertise standard USB ports...
Also I find it odd how I've managed to get pandora to stream music while I have my MHL cable connected some times, yet others data drops completely.
It seems more likely to drop out completely when my SGS II is decoding video+audio rather than just video.
Also, on the rare occasion where my data connection doesn't drop 100% it slows down massively, going from 2meg down to .2 meg down right after plugging in the MHL adapter.
I've tried multiple power sources too, from wallbricks, to desktop computers, to my macbook running on its battery to just an external USB battery pack. So I'm pretty sure it not a power noise issue...
Seems to me that Samsung needs to work on some software fixes...
Higher mA plugged into the MHL adapter may help. If you're only plugging it into usb (which I believe only outputs 500 mA), that could be your issue. I don't have any issues when using the AC adapter out of the box.

Are you using a original or generic mhl cable?
Nevertheless, i read some people saying that with some versions of Siyah Kernel and a 1000ma managed to resolve the issue...
I'm eager to solve this because my bluetooth keyboard with touchpad are arriving soon...

Any toughts? Since it has 2.1mA, can this harm the mhl adapter? And can i charge my SGS2 with this item?
Thanks!

You change the channel on your wireless router. Every router is different. Depends on what kind you have. Google how to do it for whatever model you have.

I've done, changed channel in wifi setting, and It's Solved , THanks so much
same but different...
I'm having similar sort of symptoms, but I can't quite isolate if its the same problem or not. It definitely wasn't cured by changing wifi channel unfortunately :/
Here's the deal:
I use ps3 media server on my pc to stream to devices around the house. The SG2 (i9100) is rooted, but standard rom and mostly stock. I have been using bubbleupnp as a client for ps3MS and either Vplayer or Dice Player as the video player. ALthough lately its been a bit stuttery, overall it works and plays either saved mp4 videos, downloaded music vids and stuff just fine.
I have a generic MHL adapter and a hdmi to dvi cable that I use to connect to a spare PC monitor. I plugged some spare PC speakers in the headphone socket and was prepared for viewing heaven.
The monitor mirrors the phone screen fine. I can browse the PS3MS fine and select music and it will play fine. If I play a movie off the SD card (internal or external) again its all good... clearly I don't have the wifi stopping when the mhl is connected....until... drum roll and thunder....
I select a movie to play over the bubbleupnp, then it all turns to custard...kinda, basically the phone either stops and thinks for a while, then returns to the directory tree in bubbleupnp, or just sits there on the loading screen. Dice player definately takes longer to decide its not going to do anything than vplayer, but the results the same. Every now and then I get a network error, but not all the time. Sometimes when it returns to bubble, I find that the PS3MS can't be detected either, which usually takes either a few minutes wait or a restart of the phone...
Anyway, would really appreciate any thoughts and advice. While I've found plenty of threads about mhl problems, they seem to be all or nothing. This one seemed the closest to my problem. At the moment I'm a bit unsure what part of the setup is causing the problem; it definitely seems to be something to do with how it all fits together.
I've searched for problems specific to bubble and mhl, or bubble and ps3media server and all seem ok, or at least other people have them working...
Thanks.

I've regularly been using my MHL port to transfer video to my TV's - and to my girlfriend's tv when visiting.
Recently - after finally rooting and using a couple different ROM's, I'd noticed my MHL output had steadily gotten worse. First it was a matter of the audio not getting transmitted with the video, but usually disconnecting and reconnecting and/or resetting my phone would restore proper HDMI output. But eventually, my Toshiba TV was not registering input at all. Testing on my LG TV - I get a scratchy signal and may lose it all together while jiggling the phone's USB port.
I've tested with 2 different HDMI cables, and 2 different MHL adapters. The results are similar. Actually - with one of the adapters I no longer get a signal at all, with the other one I get a good deal of snow and audio crackle. Which is odd, because I thought that being digital - I'd get a signal or nothing?
I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue, but does anyone think going to another ROM might help? Perhaps usb or mhl drivers getting screwed up? Failing that - I'm thinking of going to a Sprint service center to see if the USB port might be replaced under my insurance coverage. Any advice?
Yes, go back to stock everything and see if that resolves it. I've found some roms and kernels and different combinations break mhl or make it unreliable.
In fact, I had the same EXACT things happen you're describing. Couldn't get it to display to the TV. I gave up, then tested it on my pc monitor that has an hdmi port, worked every time. Then I thought it was the tv or something. went back to the stock kernel eventually, it worked perfect each time. I'm stock everything with a few minor mods, works great.
Hmmm, that's odd - I'll have to go to a mostly stock rom then. Which one do you suggest?
I'm literally stock, no variation. Just added leeroid tweaks and a few app mods, that's it. Not sure what else would work.

Im running ICS 4.0.3 SHOstock2 v2.2.4 with 3.0.30-cherrypicker kernel on my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II i777. I purchased a MENOTEK MHL to HDMI adapter and Im trying to use it with my RCA Plasma TV. I connect the adapter to the HDMI cable then the power cable to the Adapter, and then I connect the adapter to my phone. The tv recognizes that I have the HDMI cable plugged in then the screen goes black. While I have the adapter plugged into the phone, the phone works fine, only there isn't anything being displayed on the screen. I try to launch several video apps, still nothing. The weirdest thing is when I unplug the adapter from my phone, it causes the phone to freeze and I have to pull the battery to restart. Is anyone else having a simular problem and may know of a fix. Ive done a few searches but havent been able to find anything. I appreciate any help that I can get.

Hey mate, I am using MHL to HDMI and I don't have any problem. I am using shostock 2.2.4 and once I connect the MHL adapert the TV mirrors the screen and if I play any videos it identifies and plays in full HD. Not sure what your mean by RCA cable there, so do you have RCA to HDMI cable and use that cable to connect to MHL adapter?
Same Thing
I am having the same problem with the same identical adapter. Running identical roms as you both. Are you on the lastest versio of ICS Shostock Saxa? Maybe there was a fix in the latest, however I did not see it n the changelog. Maybe we just have bad adapters and Jive's just happens to work. Mine used to work nicely with GB.

I havent updated to ShoStock 2.2.5 but I read in another thread that it could be a kernal issue so I switched to 3.0.30 SIYAH v3.2b5 mswap+ but still no luck, my television screen is still black, the only difference that I noticed was when i unplug the adapter the phone didnt freeze.

Even after the update to ShoStock 2.2.6 I still get a black screen instead of the TV mirroring the phone. I tried several different power adapters, 2 of them were the original i777 adapter. Im thinking that the mhl adapter is DOA. Im going to try to return it or exchange it for a different one.
I was using the same menotek mhl adapter you were and coming up with the same results. So I went on amazon and ordered the samsung one. Today it arrived and mhl to hdmi is now working on my phone.
yea i definitely will be sending mine back this week. I dont mind spending a couple extra bucks on the samsung adapter.
Hi...sorry if this is the wrong place, but from my understanding they are the same phone and I didn't see any category specifically for the evo v...
At any rate, so I bought an ikross mhl to dvi adapter, hoping to connect my phone to an 18" LCD I have, but so far no luck with any of 3 monitors. I've connected the phone to a wall charger and tried hooking it up in different orders, to no avail...basically have followed every suggestion I can find.
I've now purchased an mhl to hdmi adapter from newegg for my TV and hopefully will at least verify the general functionality is working (when it arrives on the Monday following this post), but eventually would prefer it on the monitor. I also bought an HDMI to DVI adapter, just as a long shot.
I scoured google before I bought the adapter and every indication seemed like it should work fine, and now have scoured google + these forums again, but just not really finding much info related to my specific hardware.
The phone is rooted, running the latest Harmonia rom and is S-ON...I don't think that would affect it, as everything else on the phone so far has worked flawlessly, however, can't rule it out. There is a guide floating around on how to "turn the evo v into a evo 3d", so if this is rom-related, it's something to try? Requires going S-OFF, but even if it didn't fix anything, at least I'd get the radio updates. But again, from my understanding, the hardware is identical and this phone should be able to do standard mhl, so i assumed mhl to dvi should work as well, but I'm a little unsure about the standards...
Any insight is greatly appreciated and as I always do, if I find a solution, I will post
Still a no-go with an MHL to HDMI adapter, connected to my TV. The closest I came, was the phone went into dock mode if I didn't have the charger connected. Oh and if I unplugged the HDMI cable from the adapter, the TV would say check cable...So the TV was aware that a device was connected, thus it seems the issue lies in the phone.
Anybody have any idea what I could be missing? This /should/ work - the Virgin Mobile site even lists hdmi output as a feature of this phone, but no further mention in the manual and as I said in the OP, spotty info around the web
UPDATE: Just tried it with a monitor again, using an HDMI to DVI adapter, with the new MHL to HDMI adapter, and it almost wants to work - the monitor stays awake (not saying "no signal") and the phone registers that it's connected via hdmi, but the most picture I can get on the screen is but a flash when I change the phone's orientation =/
A second hdmi mhl adapter that I had ordered arrived today (was not expecting it for a month or I wouldn't have bought the other one...oops) and it works on the tv w/ full mirroring
Still a no-go on the monitor - it does the same as the other adapter. The phone and monitor both know it's connected, but only occasionally flashes of video appear and rather than any mirroring, the phone just says "play a video or slideshow" (which does not work).
So I guess the moral of the story: if you have an HTC EVO V 4G from Virgin Mobile (which is more or less the same phone as the EVO 3D) and you want to hook it up to a computer monitor: good luck! I mean, I'll test some more with other monitors on this new adapter but not getting my hopes up. Will post any positive findings, tho...
On the other hand, if you want to hook it up to a TV, it's just a matter of finding the right adapter...in my case, it was pretty much luck of the draw. One worked; the other did not. Maybe the other one will magically start working or will work with one of the new TVs I bought, but we'll see...
Anyway, here is the specific adapter that is working for me: not allowed to post links. Sorry! You all lose. Thank you spammers.
you also need to be on jellybean, or higher for the hdmi to work I do believe, otherwise the phone os if below doesnt recognize or work for hdmi out. the jellybean update made it so anyphone with micro usb out should be able to connect to hdmi with the mhl adapter.
I think its simply a matter of analog vs digital video signal. A computer monitor will need a digital video signal but a TV will be happy with either analog or digital. And I'd guess the output of the MHL adapter is analog.

I just bought a monitor with MHL. This came with an MHL lead Micro usb > HDMI plug so eager to try it I got nothing on the Note 3.
Testing this with my HTC Sensation the lead alone worked perfectly so I did a bit of research and figured that all I should need is a pin converter 5 - 11 pin and I should be fine.
I This
When that duly arrived, it still didn't work. What I noticed when using this though was :
1) The Samsung pops up a message "HDMI connected" when the monitor is on.
2) The monitor scans and doesn't tell me there is no signal - It sits there with a black screen when the note 3 is connected.
3) The Samsung loses it's sound (on the device) but nothing comes through on the monitor (not used the monitor speakers yet so I might no have this set up)
4) The Samsung shows that it is being charged.
Further research seems to come up with conflicting results. Some people say you MUST have one of those adaptors with external power, but others swear their adaptors work fine without it because the Note 3 is MHL 2.0 and only needs it for battery charging.
So I am a bit confused and hope some folks here can shed some light on this matter. My HTC sensation works perfectly with just the lead, I find it hard to believe the |Note 3 won't even when the pin outs are correct and the monitor is clearly supplying power to the device.
Any help appreciated, I don't want to buy an older mhl 1.0 adaptor with power or an expensive 2.0 adaptor if it's not necessary and I do want to hear from anyone that has an adaptor that doesn't require power.
I've never owned one Samsung phone, even when using an official (powered) MHL adapter, that worked well enough to even be worth having the adapter.
I don't know if the Note 3 requires it or not, but I wouldn't even bother with it tbh.
My Samsung MHL 2.0 cable does NOT require a power input with the Note 3 (I still use one anyway). AFAIK you still need a charging input if the cable is MHL 1.0, regardless of what spec the phone has.

Thanks, it's curious then why my mhl lead with 5 - 11pin adaptor doesn't work directly unless there's some magic in the Samsung unit.
I seem to be clearing the fog on this issue a little but I'm still confused.
It appears that what Samsung provide is and MHL > HDMI adaptor. HDMI and MHL are different ... in some way.
However, when a monitor supports HML directly this shouldn't be necessary at all. As my monitor came with this feature and supplied an MHL cable albeit the 5 pin my take on this is that fitting a 5 > 11 pin converter should be all that I need. Some appear to have used passive MHL cables with success :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483054&page=3
But I'd still like any more expert opinions on whether I'm on the right track or not. If I am then I might assume the chinese adaptor I bought is defective in some way.
I don't know what happened but I bought this one and I am surprised! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-O...AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item486423fdfe This was suggested in another thread from many users however it was noted that it requires power A/C to work! Those are my first results after 10 minutes of testing it! Didn't have any long term session with it in order to check if it is stable or errorfree!
Because I know some users may doubt it, here is a picture showing what I said !https://db.tt/Gsum0lyU

I think No as the TV is quite old and from my usage I didn't see any signs of MHL. But I will test it again in my other TV which is much newer to see if it still works without external power! I Will post my findings on this thread in the near future
It seems that it works pretty fine also in my other (newer) TV without any power source!

I purchased the Amazon Basics micro HDMI cable (http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-High-Speed-Mini-HDMI-Cable-Ethernet/dp/B003ES5ZR8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1419968500&sr=8-1&keywords=mini+hdmi) and I've been having issues with poor or no connection. The first time I connected the tablet everything was great. I played about an hour of Portal with no issue. I had to reboot the tablet, and after that I couldn't get a signal. I tried the HDMI cable in my Canon 70d and had no signal. I assumed that the cord was bad, but last night I tried again and got a good signal for about ten minutes. I had to change the source on the TV and when I went back to the original input, my signal was gone. Has anyone else experienced this with the Amazon HDMI cable or any other HDMI cable? What are some good low-cost HDMI cables that others have had success with?
Ive used this adapter a few times without issue. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IZYIYX8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 .. If the cable is giving you an issue with multiple devices can it be the TV?

I plugged the cable into all of the HDMI ports on the TV and one on my Sony receiver. It seems to react the same way with both devices. But that adapted you linked looks pretty slick.
Sounds more like a bad cable than anything else. If you replace the cable and it continues then the shield would be the next more likely culprit. I haven't heard of this happening to anyone else, though.
