Thanks, but shouldn't it be my 3G bar that is changing colors since that is what I am receiving data through? On my Captivate, the wifi bars never showed up.

It is the signal bars and the data connection that changes. Many roms and themes will lock down the colors of the signal bars so they remain the same.

I'm not sure why its showing both cell data and wifi..... that shouldn't be.

Are you sure you have a good signal? I've seen those icons a bunch of times from theming, and your picture looks a lot like the wifi signal is just nonexistent.
EDIT: I'm interested to see your SystemUI apk. Can you post it? It contains those images.
Your picture looks like it was captured before your wifi fully signed on and before you're data connection shut off which its why both are showing....
Any chance your wifi its scanning?

Sure, here it is.
I am not connected to a wifi hotspot.
Don't forget, I have a cm7 theme manager theme applied, not sure if that affects the systemui.apk.

Nope, I'm not connecting to a hotspot nor does this icon show up for just a few seconds. When it does decide to show up, it stays on for quite a while.

I'm guessing it's an issue with the theme. That icon is shown for a very low wifi signal. The fact that it's appearing means one of two things: 1) You actually have that low of a signal (stat_sys_wifi_signal_0.png is what's shown - at a wifi signal strength of 1 and above, you would see a differentiating color), or 2) a mistake was in the theme with the icons.
*Attached is that icon, pulled from your SystemUI. I know that these aren't being used because of the theme, but no one would purposely use that particular icon for theming various levels of wifi strength.

I'm afraid it is not theme-specific:

is there such an app?
Ive been looking everywhere for this and cant find it. Seems it would be something already done since many battery apps do the same thing and show a percentage.
The app would need to simply take the info from the status info on the phone and display it instead of signal bars
Was thinking about this the other day as well.
I'd also rather see a db or snr number, instead of bars.
Agree ..

I'm definitely very interested in this, hopefully someone can make it a reality!
Are there any widgets that report dB levels of reception? I agree that replacing the signal bars would be best, but as a stop-gap solution a widget would do perfectly well for me.
If rooted, it's an option in CM6, at least in the nightly build since 0715. It doesn't replace the signal bars, it's in addition to them.

As I had mentioned, it's available in the nightly builds, at least since 0715 version. I'm running the 0717 version now. I do not believe it was on the RC1 version I had - though I only had RC1 on for about 7 hours.

Check out "Real Signal" on the market - been using it for a little over a week.
It doesn't replace your bars, but it gives you a 2G and 3G "accurate" bar reading on the left of your notification bar, and by sliding your drawer down it will show you the dB levels for the type of signal.
It's a great little utility.

Sliding down only shows me some random numbers nothing in terms of db which would normal be like -85 and stuff. Shows like [Signal:20][low:16][High:21]

This Metamorph changes the status bar and status icons to the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread UI. Make sure you are using the latest version of Metamorph (1.9.13 or higher). I'm not responsible for anything you do to your phone.
For some reason JK6 doesn't like morphs. To install you must morph each app separately. If MM hangs, reboot and move to the next app.
WARNING:
Make sure USB Debugging is enabled in Settings -> Applications -> Development.
If you're using the standard TouchWiz launcher, this morph will remove the Messaging icon from the bottom dock. To get it back, open your applications, press menu, view type, customizable. Menu again, then edit. Find the Messaging icon, drag it back into the dock, then menu, save, menu, view type, alphabetical grid (or whatever you had it on before.)

Unzip the file, remove everything but the signal icons, rezip, make sure it's named "Gingerbread_Morph.zip" and apply.
Is there any chance that a ASPOish pull down could be included in the future version?

Hi,
is there a widget similar to the one preinstalled on the defy to toggle wifi/gps etc. ?
The white/ coloured ones don't fit my theme.
THX
Widgetsoid is the best toggling app I've come across. It's got a huge number of toggles and options you can customize, including the colors and themes of the toggles, so I think it would be perfect for you.
2G/3G widget
When trying to switch from 2G to 3G or back Widgetsoid only sends you to the operator menu where you have to change the network type
Any other widget that can do the switch on a single click (as all the other widgets work)?
Wigetsoid ftw.

Can I ask a really stupid question? What would you want that for?
The only thing I can think of is if you are often in an area where either the 3G or the 2G data connection is often - but not always - messed up.
And that can't be too often (this actually did happen to me this summer: _some_ evenings my 3G data connection would just die and/or not let me log in. Then it was pretty handy to be able to force phone/dongle to just use 2G).
Or is it just for convenience? Use 2G for calls/standby (save battery, right?), flick on 3G when you want to surf or sync?

If your data connection dies somethimes you should use 2G and 3G at the same time. ( There is optin in data settings: use only 3G or use only 2G, or use both.)
Yes, 3G is a big component like Wi-Fi so it uses your battery a lot. But I use program which turns off all internet connections while screen is off. It saves way of my battery juice. But if you want always sync your programs put there a widget on your homescreen which is shortcut to data setting and when you know that you'r not using your device for next couple hours, just change from 3G to 2G only.
I hope this helped you

Slightly OT (mods please don't hit me, I'm a stoopid noob):
My problems this summer was before I had my lovely shiny Defy, and they were really tricky in that they only affected 3G data, and only sometimes (but regularly enough that I complained, and got a nice reply that they were working on it and that I had identified the problem correctly - no "have you tried this or that" -bull****).

That's a good way to save, but I think 3G (voice-) standby also eats more than 2G standby. At least a friend of mine who is a hopeless chatterbox said that turning off all 3G stuff in her never-used-for-data phone almost doubled her battery life - and it isn't like she is ever in an area with marginal coverage, downtown Helsinki all the time.
I have been working on creating a theme for CyanogenMod 7's theme chooser that is based off of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the Ice Cream Sandwich user interface. So far, I have created and release two public alpha versions. I am aware of the bug with the charging animation when battery percentage is selected. I will upload screenshots of the theme shortly. Feel free to ask any questions or report bugs.
Based off of sonnysekhon's ICS theme, but optimized more for qHD resolution screens, moreover the Atrix, but it will work with any HDPI device.

Here's how it's turned out so far. Tell me any issues you have on it in the comments, not through PM's, so others can see. As for a launcher, I am working on porting the actual ICS launcher, but for now use this: http://syndicateapps.com/main/ICS_Launcher.html
I will update the original post when I can get enough testers, and work out all the issues, so that I may make a public beta or final release. Remember, if you download it, comment, don't just freeload...

Not quite sure what either of you mean... @hahmoode, thank you, but do you mean the status bar? if so, I'm afraid I can't do that, mostly because it's not part of the stock Ice Cream Sandwich framework.

nice work! a few bugs so far:
in hspa signal, the data type indicator shows a blue H in the upper right and then will change to a white, smaller H in the lower right when data transfer is active. also, no data up/down arrows. finally, the battery charging animation for if you are showing percentage (uses the slim blue bar) has white borders for one of the animation frames, and the white borders are there when phone is unplugged.

I just got an email, and noticed that my email icon was flashing and changing color (from grey to red repeatedly) up in the notifications bar. Thought that was pretty cool..
I like it so far! I picked it apart with ninjamorph and borrowed a few things The only things that bothered me were the google search bar (the colored letters as opposed to white) and the dark blue at the top of menus right above the overscroll. Other than that great theme and I can't wait til it's done.
Development of this will be cancelled due to the release of this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310925 as well as other complications in my life.

if you have setup wifi calling it means its on and the calls you make will be over wifi, if you haven't set up wifi calling its telling you wifi calling is on and that you need to set it up or it will make calls over wifi when signal is stronger over wifi. thats how it worked and looked since i had a black berry Perl, which is why it looks so out of place lol.
Well the icon is there even with WiFi and VOLTE off...there is no wifi calling in the settings....
