Hi,
is there a widget similar to the one preinstalled on the defy to toggle wifi/gps etc. ?
The white/ coloured ones don't fit my theme.
THX
Widgetsoid is the best toggling app I've come across. It's got a huge number of toggles and options you can customize, including the colors and themes of the toggles, so I think it would be perfect for you.
2G/3G widget
When trying to switch from 2G to 3G or back Widgetsoid only sends you to the operator menu where you have to change the network type
Any other widget that can do the switch on a single click (as all the other widgets work)?
Wigetsoid ftw.
extended controls
Check out switch pro
It works pretty well and has quite a few options!
Here's an idea..

Try Extended controls !

Can I ask a really stupid question? What would you want that for?
The only thing I can think of is if you are often in an area where either the 3G or the 2G data connection is often - but not always - messed up.
And that can't be too often (this actually did happen to me this summer: _some_ evenings my 3G data connection would just die and/or not let me log in. Then it was pretty handy to be able to force phone/dongle to just use 2G).
Or is it just for convenience? Use 2G for calls/standby (save battery, right?), flick on 3G when you want to surf or sync?

If your data connection dies somethimes you should use 2G and 3G at the same time. ( There is optin in data settings: use only 3G or use only 2G, or use both.)
Yes, 3G is a big component like Wi-Fi so it uses your battery a lot. But I use program which turns off all internet connections while screen is off. It saves way of my battery juice. But if you want always sync your programs put there a widget on your homescreen which is shortcut to data setting and when you know that you'r not using your device for next couple hours, just change from 3G to 2G only.
I hope this helped you

Slightly OT (mods please don't hit me, I'm a stoopid noob):
My problems this summer was before I had my lovely shiny Defy, and they were really tricky in that they only affected 3G data, and only sometimes (but regularly enough that I complained, and got a nice reply that they were working on it and that I had identified the problem correctly - no "have you tried this or that" -bull****).

That's a good way to save, but I think 3G (voice-) standby also eats more than 2G standby. At least a friend of mine who is a hopeless chatterbox said that turning off all 3G stuff in her never-used-for-data phone almost doubled her battery life - and it isn't like she is ever in an area with marginal coverage, downtown Helsinki all the time.

I've only had my Galaxy S2 a few days and I absolutely love it, an amazing beast of a phone.
The only annoyance for me is the inability to easily switch on/off mobile data. Maybe I was spoilt coming from the Desire where Sense had an excellent widget that allowed you to turn it on and off straight from the homescreen, but I haven't been able to find a similar option for the S2. I've tried a variety of widgets (Beautiful Widgets, Switch Pro, Extended Control, Power control) but all of them have some flaws, they either don't work at all or they are really just links to the settings page.
On top of that, every time you check the setting to turn on the mobile data, I get that annoying pop-up telling me that it might cost me money to use this!
Love the phone but would love a way to turn on mobile data with one click. Has anyone found a way to do this?
no widget necessary. you can turn data off from anywhere on the phone. just hold down the power button and one of the options will be to turn data off.

And if you want a widget JuiceDefender has one and saves you battery as well
Found a simple widget that does what Sense did for Desire
I was also spoiled by the Desire and Sense with its on/off widget... but for SGS2, I managed to find one that works!
APN OnOff, it is very similar to the one in Sense. Used it for a few hours and seem to be doing a fine job AND IT IS FREE! Enjoy

Uh, I would not recommend APN OnOff. It kind of creates another APN entry that might muck around with your APN settings. If you are already rooted, try Widgetsoid and the root setting.
Tasker can create such a widget for you also, in addition to doing pretty much anything else you can think of when it comes to an Android phone...

widgetsoid can do this and is free. It's a little complicated to set up - think of it as a widget creation framework, but if you can get the hang of it, it can be very powerful!

It is the signal bars and the data connection that changes. Many roms and themes will lock down the colors of the signal bars so they remain the same.

Are you sure you have a good signal? I've seen those icons a bunch of times from theming, and your picture looks a lot like the wifi signal is just nonexistent.
EDIT: I'm interested to see your SystemUI apk. Can you post it? It contains those images.
Your picture looks like it was captured before your wifi fully signed on and before you're data connection shut off which its why both are showing....
Any chance your wifi its scanning?

Nope, I'm not connecting to a hotspot nor does this icon show up for just a few seconds. When it does decide to show up, it stays on for quite a while.

I'm guessing it's an issue with the theme. That icon is shown for a very low wifi signal. The fact that it's appearing means one of two things: 1) You actually have that low of a signal (stat_sys_wifi_signal_0.png is what's shown - at a wifi signal strength of 1 and above, you would see a differentiating color), or 2) a mistake was in the theme with the icons.
*Attached is that icon, pulled from your SystemUI. I know that these aren't being used because of the theme, but no one would purposely use that particular icon for theming various levels of wifi strength.

basically I have 2 routers with different SSIDs set up in my house
I was wondering if there is a way I can have it automatically switch to the one with a better connection through an app or script of some sort
or a way that I can at least make a shortcut on my launcher to do this?
now that I think about I could toggle wifi off and on but is there a better way?

hmm, best wifi works good, but i feel consumption of battery is higher now.
and one annoying thing is that toast always appears "best wifi: no apn found" if wifi is on and has no connection... for example if on the road...
i always have wifi on.
i know i gives apps like llama who can handle wifi on off cell or location based, but not good working, so i have wifi always on and that's best.
Thanks for the recommendation, has been driving me crazy constantly switching btwn SSIDs manually or turning WiFi off and on. Ridiculous that we have to install an app for such basic functionality, and doesn't work if 2nd AP is a repeater with exact same SSID for me as main SSID gets disabled in order for the switch to happen. But using connectify me pro as repeater so not a huge deal right now, changing SSID is super easy

P.S. battery is being consumed when signal constantly drops and/or pages need constant freshing to load and/or manually switching networks anyway

i saw a new app for optimizing battery life on google play, it saves ur battery while screen is off by turning all the connections on and off in intervals that u choose.. the change was obvious for me and i liked the app alot so i wanted to share
battery life used to be about 10 hours per charge with minimum use.. now it is about 20 hours.. this is a good application that i recommend to every xperia user and any other phones!

you can control your wifi and 3G connections, bluetooth, sync options, and the traffic of the data (you can for example activate the sync every 30 minutes, and then turn it off, or the traffic data turn it 15 minutes or 30 to receive notifications and then it will turn off for another 15 minutes, you can choose how much time you want)
all this is in the paid version there is a free version but its too limited....

it turns off wifi and turns it on in intervals unless its active (which i see pretty good), it turns off bluetooth when not needed and it controls the autosync to let u use it only when connected to a power supply! as i mentioned my battery life is twice better now!

I too have similar battery charts for network for me the reason is poor network and if I am in a good network region then the usage graph will be normal.
I think it would be good if you compare the graph of the usage while in stable network region or check only 3g network.
I am facing the same... My old Honor 9 lost like 1% or max. 2% of battery during the night (~ 8 hours, 4G network with mobile data on, sync on). My Honor 10 (9.0.0.159(patch 01)) eats like 6-8% with the very same setup (same apps installed, same power management + sync settings). According to GSam Battery Monitor, cell standby eats 0.5-1%/hour... I tried to switch the network to 2G only, but the battery drain was very similar!
Ok i got some solution here just go to settings, wireless & network, mobile network, more and turn off carrier aggregation that's it now my battery drain is not that much due to cell stand by just try and share your experience
