please help - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I was flashing a rom when my computer froze now my note says on the screen Firmware upgrade encountered a issue. Please select recovery mode in kies and try again. What can i do to fix this

You need to get back into recovery and reload the ROM. Are you having an issue getting into Recovery Mode?

How do you get into recovery on the note? I havent done that to a samsung device in a while.

three finger. hold both volume up and down then power at same time. At SAmsung logo let go of power button for a few seconds then let go of all. boom. recovery.

It won't go into recovery it just goes to a screen and tells me there was error with upgrade and tells me too hook up to kies or go to in recovery but i can't. Doin sees it but doesn't flash anything

Friend, click on DOWNVOL+START+HOME then a download mode should start, then pair it with ur computer(usb ofcourse) and go to samsung kies, try to find something like repair phone or reinstall, search in google cuz i dont know how sansung kies works but there is a easy step by step way like xperia

i dont have the phone with me at the moment, but im almost positive it wont boot into download mode, i cant even get it into cwm
Fassies are just about unbrickable.. unless you have some sort of hardware issue. Its been the case for me more than once where I bricked my device and couldn't get into recovery but download mode worked just fine. Just hold volume down as you plug your device into your PC.
EDIT: For clear instructions to put your fassy into download mode

? Forget what I said? I was telling him just because he cannot get into cwm does not mean he cannot get into download mode... yes, aside from that follow droidstyle's guide but he replied after instruction that he was sure he couldn't get into download mode.

And the guide will say exactly this: download mode, Odin, CWM4 fixed for CM7, then if you want to be on a current ICS build flash THS build one or two followed by whatever build you want... Hardly misinformation.

Also, the OP is a complete noob..no offense..said he don't even have the phone on him. But is sure he can't boot into download mode (his reason)" because it wont even boot cwm".. The only thing I think is wrong with his phone is a severe case of lack of research and reading. My prescription is droidstyles guide...
PS. Download mode is initiated by plugging the phone into the computer with the battery out and while holding "down Volume"..

Hello, it's me again
As I showed you, with your GNex, just flash the stock firmware, via Odi (This time, not with fastboot) ^^
Check out this website, and download the desired ROM, there... Sammobile.com/firmware/

Every phone is easiliy brickable, if you press the wrong button/type/perform the wrong command, at the wrong time.
I've bricked my SGS II just by reboooting it, into Odin download mode ^^
You just need to flash the phone/wipe the phone, in the wrong moment (Example: When it's updating the factory binaries).
And, if a collegue of mine, can brick an old (2003 model) Nokia, then this can brick aswell ^^

I think I bricked my S4..

I've been running Hyperdrive rom on CWM, and decided I wanted to try Illusion. So I rebooted into recovery, deleted cache and data, then installed the Illusion rom. At the end a yellow triangle popped up telling me that the software was insecure or something, and told me to go to a Verizon store.
I read that this was due to the kernel not being loki'd, so like an idiot I went back to Odin and flashed a kernel.
Soon after my screen went black, but I could hear the sounds of me raising/lowering the volume and turning the screen on and off.
I took the battery out and put it back in, and now all I see is an empty battery imposed on a black background with a frozen loading-circle int he middle.
Have I bricked my phone?
Edit:
When I unplug the phone from my computer and turn it on I see the Samsung boot-up along with the word Custom and unlocked icon above it. From there all I get is a black screen.
I can hold the lock+home+lower volume keys and I get the "Press volume up key if you want to download a custom OS" and "Volume down to cancel (restart phone)" screen, then the little green android shows up. Is there anything I can do from here?
You likely have "soft bricked" it, as long as you can still access it with odin or push files to it with adb you are not hard bricked... if you can, get the current verizon firmware from Sammobile.com and flash that with odin. This or fastboot are your best options. Take your time. Dont make things worse by trying things without reading completely. As long as you can flash and see it from adb or odin you can get it fixed up. Good luck

1. "USA" isn't listed in both "Galaxy S 4" or "Galaxy S 4 LTE" on Sammobile
2. So I reboot into download mode, connect phone to pc, run odin, and flash PDA?

No problem. I don't know how familiar you are with Odin but reading the original post closely and following any guides posted would be a good idea. Once you've used Odin once it's very easy....scary the first time.

Yes, I'm watching this thread eagerly haha, I would like to fix my phone
So I held power+volume up+home and entered stock recovery. I chose the option "wipe data/factory reset" and afterwards rebooted the system, but to no avail. I'm going to try again right now, wiping the cache partition as well.
Edit: Ah! After I wiped the cache my system auto-rebooted and it successfully booted up. Factory settings!

There you go! You have to be careful with Odin because if you do something incorrectly you can totally brick your phone.

[Q] My S4 is missing recovery!!!

Okay I hope someone can help me! This is what happened, I had a rooted MDK version and wanted to upgrade to ME7 since there was a root for it so i upgraded then re-rooted now running ME7 rooted. But i tried to install a custom recovery (forgot that ME7 bootloader isnt unlocked -_-) so now i basicly DELETED my recovery. My phone turns on fine but for example if i hold POWER and UP it boots to download mode and on top is says "failed to boot" So basicly can somone please explain to me how to install the original recovery WITHOUT losing any of my phone data? THANKS!
You should have done some reading first, but you've now found out you can't flash a recovery when on mf3. Join the many others. It probably boots into download mode. When it does can you cancel that with vol down?
Edit, as far as getting the recovery back, you can't afaik

No nothing works when in that mode, I have to take the battery out and back in and turn it on normal and it boots up fine just the recovery mode doesn't work. This isn't a crazy concern just annoying so your saying there is NO fix? I just have to wait until the find a way to unlock the bootloader then install a custom recovery?

[Q] not sure if this would be considered bricked or not.....

this guy had the same problem i am having now. except he was upgrading from 2.3 to ICS. I was on MJ7 and one of my genius stellar friends told me i could odin back to MI1. well i actually did it, so im obviously just as much of a genius as he is. Nonetheless his description of his problem is identical to mine. that said, the solution offered up for him was obviously applicable to the builds he was working with. With knox being present in the MJ7, i believe i may just be screwed. Im stuck on the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again." screen even after I reboot. it just reboots on its own to that screen after i turn it off. any advise? Id like to get it to a reasonable sellable state if possible so i can put any money i get out of it towards the nexus 5. Ive also tried all the Kies suggested troubleshooting multiple times as he did.
"Now the phone shows an error "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again."
When i connect the phone via the cabe, to the computer, using Kies, it gives me error saying "Device not responding. To resolve the issue, reboot the device."
This is how I tried to resolve the issue, but with no success..
I have rebooted a number of times without success
I clicked on 'Troubleshoot connection error' and reinstalled the driver multiple times, but without any success"

You need to re flash twrp in Odin to get your recovery back and there is a file out there that you can flash in twrp that should square you back to factory. I believe @micmars has helped with this issue before. Perhaps he remembers the thread in which he found it the first time? I will search and try to post you a link.
