Is there a way to truly hide your text messages?
I use Smart App Protector to password protect my messages app, but I notice that when I receive a text, I get a notification (which I want), that shows the actual text (which I don't want). I just want the notification to say that I have a new text Message (don't even really want it to say who it's from).
I'm coming from the Iphone 4S and it had the ability to do what I'm talking about with regards to the notification.
Any ideas?

Yes.. that
Look into GoSmS pro or Handcent. You can control texts at a much better level.
Handcent has privacy settings to do just what you want.

i downloaded the official jellybean update from samsung on my s3 but i cant get the expandable notifications and resizing widgets to work. for expandable notifications, i only tried it for whatsapp and it did not work. i have not tried mail and messages yet
Easiest way to try them is to take a screen shot.

Are you using a 2 finger gesture to expand? From what I hear this will be fixed in next version to only require a one finger gesture, but currently, Gmail or Email notifications and SMS etc, you need to use a 2 finger downward swipe to open them up

Whatapp does not take advantage of that feature yet!
I'm sure I read somewhere we could reply directly from the notification? Did I dream that?

You can do that on Cyanogen, there is a popup notification that allows you to reply direct from that. Wonder if thats what you are thinking?

Could be actually. You mean you pull down the notification bar and can press reply without opening the app? That'd be great.

I've been trying to get it to work with Gmail but it doesn't seem to happen. Just opens the Gmail when more than one email has been received and unread. When a single email is unread though it does show some of the message text.
Anyone had better luck?

Scratch that! It works... You have to drag down with two fingers from the notification to expand it. (like you drag down in Google maps to go into the 3d view)

How did I just figure this out! This feature is obviously not that well known! Oh my.
Thanks so much, this is immensely useful!
Hey guys,
I have the at&t one x+ and was looking for a couple apps to make my life a little easier and to make the phone that more amazing. The first one is to be able to quick reply and quick text from the lock screen. The primary reason I want this feature is to enhance the battery life of the phone. Since I use juicedefender and I don't need to unlock the phone when I text (meaning I don't need to connect to WiFi) the battery life will be prolonged.
Another app/option I'm looking for is to be able to control the frequency of text sound notification. If I've been texting frequently I don't need to hear a sound notification every time. Example: maybe an option to receive sound notification if I havnt received/sent a text since 5 minutes from the last text, otherwise a LED notification will suffice. And it I'm currently using the phone a preview of the message on the status bar is all I need, no sound necessary.
Bonus question: is there a way to send chat messages on Facebook using landscape mode and not having to go through 3-4 steps ?
Hope to hear from you guys soon.
This is interesting. Im used to iPhone's notification shortcuts.

Thanks for the info, but I'm not looking to get the windows lockscreen. I'm very much happy with the HTC lockscreen thus far. Just was a couple features that I had gotten used to with my jailbroken iPhone.
Your looking for something like bitesms huh? If so chompsms is pretty much is the same

Get another iphone ... Or better yet put up with what you have. Either way there is no way to do it without a 3rd party lockscreen.

i run handcent and its got all what you need lockscreen notify and a quick reply, fully costumizable, i run nothing else

p.s it work with the stock lockscreen
Sweet, thanks for the recommendations. As of right now I'm going with chompsms to test it out. It seems like it unlocked the phone upon quick replying and goes back to the lock screen after the text is sent. I'll keep testing it out and the other 3rd party apps. I appreciate guys.
I'd like to have an sms skin like the facebook messenger. Till now I didn't find any yet.
I'm willing to use any kind of app which is needed for it.
This is what I want it to look like

Handcent SMS has a similar theme if I believe correctly. Maybe you can give it a try.

Tried it, but it's more iPhone style and it's ****ty because the text box is brown??? Though I didn't download any themes, none seemed to look that good.
I'm using Handcent right now btw

The Textbox color is white in their screenshots in Play Store. Maybe it have an option to change the text box color but I'm not sure though, as I haven't used that app much. But there is an option to change colors, maybe you have to tinker with it more.

Well yeah, I like the one in the screenshots, but it's brown... AND UGLY
I'd love to change this, but can't find the option though.
I've just downloaded Themer (Beta) on Galaxy S4 GT-19505 running android 4.3
I am currently using the theme "Blur" (see attached image; being a newbie I'm unable to post the image in-post)
I use the "Textra" SMS app as I prefer it over the stock messaging app, and whilst I receive notifications no worries in the stock notification bar, I don't receive any notification on the "Text" conversation bubble (the one in the middle); I receive notifications for gmail (the icon on the right), however, no worries.
Does anyone know how I could fix this?
Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion, we'll add it to our list, therefore it should be supported in the next 1 or 2 updates :good:
Has this been updated?
I have the same problem with the same messaging app as the OP. The unread messages number never shows anything other than zero

Not yet. It's still a huge task to implement, so we're going to work on it in the future, as right now we don't have the time or resources. Stay tuned though

Is it possible to get different themes in the stock sms app? I'm rooted with xposed module and tweaksbox. I actually like the stock app, function wise, but lord it's ugly as sin.
There's no themes, but in tweakbox you can change the color scheme.

I don't see the option to change the color scheme of the messaging app. I know devs can now include it in their themes, but to my knowledge none have so far.
Edit.. I stand corrected, my apologies.
It's not the stock one, but Chomp SMS allows for all sorts of customization.

Unless i am doing something wrong, the only thing you can change is the top bar color. I'd really like to black out the whole apk, if possible.

I use the verizon Message+ and you can change the color of almost everything.
I made mine dark/holo colors and I'm actually perfectly happy with a verizon app which is weird, but works and looks great

I'm having issues with the VZW apk; everytime i enable it as the primary, it starts downloading ALL of my past text messages. I had to put it in airplane mode to kill off the 30 conversations that i THOUGHT i had deleted that it was busy recovering.
any idea on HOW to turn that function off? I don't normally save text messages, so don't want it saying i have 300+ new messages and going thru all of them.
thanks,

Try QKSMS from the Play Store. Fairly new app but plenty of theme customizations without straying too far from the stock SMS feel. I was hooked immediately! Just what I'd been looking for in a messaging app for a long time.
