I'm not sure why, but it'll show the "Samsung Galaxy S2" boot screen then it'll just go black. When I hold "down" and power at the same time, it'll ask me to "download a custom OS" hit "up" or hit "down" to restart. Yes, it's rooted. But it's worked fine for about 3 weeks now since root.
Any help would be appreciated.

Have you installed a custom kernel?
In the case you are trying to boot into recovery, remove the phone from charger and press all: vol up, vol down and power while bootup to boot into recovery
I've actually reset my device now using the factory reset. And it still does the same thing. Not sure what else to do at this point?
And no, stock everything. Stock rooted.
People have had this problem before. Keep trying random passwords, and sooner or later it'll wipe your data. If that doesn't work, flash Entopy's "Back to Stock" package on XDA.

Is your phone an AT&T Galaxy S II I777? You say: "When I hold "down" and power at the same time, it'll ask me to "download a custom OS" hit "up" or hit "down" to restart." On the I777, holding vol- and power at the same time is the same as turning the phone on with the power button. I've never seen anything like you describe.
You havn't said you were getting a security password prompt, so I don't know why the suggestion to keep entering a password. Are you getting a security password prompt when you try to enter recovery?
To troubleshoot the problem, we need to determine if there was any change or "event" that would have triggered the problem.

Yes, there was a build.prop edit. I reset my phone after the edit and it won't power up past the "Samsung" boot screen. I got passed the password prompt and I was able to successfully factory reset my phone and it still doesn't boot past the "Samsung" boot screen.

It's possible a build.prop edit could cause boot failure. Can you connect to the phone through ADB? If you can do that, you might be able to reactivate the build.prop.bak file that was probably created when you did the edit.
If you can't get into the file system, then probably the best thing is to flash stock. If it was my phone, I would probably flash the stock one-click downloader in the "Return you phone to the Store or for Warranty Replacement" guide, and then re-root with DooMLords zergrush method from the other guide. Links in my signature.
Yeah, I'm downloading the file now to attempt this. Thank you.

Thank you everyone to helped. My phone is UP AND RUNNING!

Long story short, I don't know what I'm doing, and got my phone stuck in recovery mode on boot-up after attempting to root it. So I'm asking how would I perform a wipe/factory reset? It says to enter to select "OK Key" which is the home button. But the AT&T version of this phone is touch only. So what do I do? The only touch key that works is the list key, and that just toggles the text. Any ideas?
Did you try selecting options with the power button?
Yea, clicking the power button doesn't do anything, holding it just turns it off (who would of guess?) So i'm kind of at a lost as to what to do now. Would flashing a different kernel change anything? Again, complete newb at this

Did you flash an international version of the Kernel versus an AT&T version? The international version of this phone has a different button setup, and this might explain why it's asking you to hit the home button. As the phone is still operational, follow the steps in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18576627#post18576627 specifically step 2c to use Odin to flash a new Kernel. Once rooted, you can follow the guild above to download ROM's etc.

I downloaded and installed LiquidSmooth 2.6.5 on 06/15/13 wiped everything necessary, went to reboot and it said i wasnt rooted would i like to install SuperSU, i installed it and it rebooted to a black screen and wont go any further. all it does is vibrate every couple of seconds. Is there ANYTHING i can do to get back into TWRP recovery? stock recovery? flash the stock image with Odin? it wont boot into TWRP, or download mode.
Please help, might have bricked my hard earned Verizon S4
Hi,
I've recently just installed the TeamWin Recovery Project.
my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 has been rooted, and I even checked with some application on the Google Play market, and it has indicated that it indeed was rooted.
But I still kept on getting the annoying "some application need attention blah blah blah..." in the notification bar, and when I click it it gave me options reboot now or reboot later.
Of course I clicked "reboot now" and after a while, I messed up on my cyananogen mod I guess and I recovered using TWRP through a back up that I have already made prior to flashing the CM 10.1. And it was working normally.
Then I some how went to the TWRP again and it said that my phone wasn't rooted any longer! So I swiped the "root the device now" knob thing and ever since then it has been stuck in the "samsung" screen with the unlocked labeled as "custom" underneath.
Even if I try to do Volume Up + Power + Home button it doesn't send me back to the TWRP screen, rather I see the indication that TWRP has been initiated, but it just crashes and turns my phone off.
When I do Volume down + Power + Home button I can get to the Download mode, but it doesn't seem like my computer can recognize the device.
After the Download page and I push the Volume Up button for the actual download mode on the top left it says
Odin Mode
Product name: SCH-I545
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
CSB-OEM_Config-LSB: 0x30
Write Protection: Enable"

And when I do get to this point my computer does recognize the phone and I know this by hearing the usb connection sound that a computer makes.
How do I get my phone back to factory state so that I can maybe once again trying rooting it again?
Thanks in advance.
and I apologize for so much information even if the rules say that I should be brief as possible, but it felt like the details were needed. (correct me if I'm wrong).

I can't get into the download/odin screen. When I press power + home + volume down it just vibrates.
I don't understand how I could have hard-bricked the phone just by formatting.
Just before rebooting, CWM prompted me "saying root access might be lost" and I hit ignore.

I have the same issue after flashing Liquid-JB-v2.5-OFFICIAL-d2vzw yesterday 6/19/13. Wiped everything, factory reset, hit reboot, it said my device appeared not to be rooted and asked if i would like to install SuperSU. I said yes to install it. When my device rebooted, I got a black screen and my phone won't go any further. It just vibrates, every 2 or 3 seconds. I can get it into download mode. I tried to flash the stock firmware back onto it but when it reboots after, it goes back to black screen and vibrate. Thanks.

It's still very early an I see a few people going stir crazy over finding a way to root their phones. I for one am not sure I want to root just yet, the reason being Samsung pay. If it's going to be as awesome as they say it will be I don't wanna miss out due to tripping Knox.
Now I do love flashing and all things root related but I'm willing to hold out.
What about you? Root or no root? Why?
I root right away even if I don't have a "good" reason too. Its the because I can. I don't really care about the tripping knox thing I guess because if you have insurance there is always a chance the device could get "broken". Then you don't have to worry about if its tripped or not. Thats the position Samsung has put me in I wouldn't typically do something like that. So ya now I'm just waiting for TWRP then I will try and make a ROM.
I tried to use chainroot, and got stuck on the logo screen. normally you'd battery pull, go to recovery and wipe data. but i can't find any way to shut down the phone, before doing power-upVol-home.
And now i've tried to odin a stock recovery to undo chainroot, odin fails. could re-run odin with auto-reboot off, but again, no way to shut off and go to recovery.
at this point i'm stuck with the blue screen asking me to use smart switch on PC to do emergency recovery. but smartswitch says the device is not recognized.
thoughts? thanks!
I don't care about warranty just samsung pay. I heard it was harder to make roms with exinos is that true?

Not sure what device you have but there was a video that said not to use the edge version of the root, and to use the regular S6 version. Running the S6 version will fix your broken device. Take this with a grain of salt, I'm just telling you what I saw. I will post the video link if I get a chance.
PS not sure if this actually helps you or not..
Rooting broke Google Play Movies on my phone, battery life was miserable and phone never went to sleep. After I unrooted everything went back to normal. So I am not going to root and just wait until things are cleaned up.
Every phone I've ever had has been rooted as soon as I got it. Not this time though, because of Samsung Pay.
If rooting breaks Samsung Pay, I'll never root the phone

not for me right now: i have the turquoise error screen telling me to use smart switch. volDown + power for 7 seconds turns the screen off... and then right back on a couple seconds later. and i can't seem to slip in the recovery key sequence during that gap.
volDown + power + home is a diff story: that brings me into download mode. but i don't have anything that works in odin right now without failing. very possible that i don't have the correct rom, or that the rom is fine but i just need to go into recovery mode to complete, but i can't seem to do that!

How about volume up+power+home to stock recovery to perform a factory reset?
No root for me I'm afraid! If I root this device I lose my nfc payment app (Semble) as it checks for root and locks the app if it's detected. Besides I've rooted every other phone I've had since iPhone Gen 1 and I don't really have the time anymore now I've got a 1 year old boy!

Why is ODIN failing? Drivers installed? Where did you get this recovery? If ODIN can see your device you flash back to unrooted stock firmware.
Also, someone mentioned that you can Vol down + power will shut the device down. As soon as the screen goes black take your finger off the power button, press and hold Vol up + home then press power. You can go right from download mode to recovery with just the buttons.

1. i got them from mobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G925F/
I would love to hear if this is a good source. also, I don't know if it matters exactly which of those firmwares to choose (there are many, you choose country and carrier)-- i don't know which one came with this phone as it was sent as a demo to me and i didn't take a screen shot of the info screen (does it matter?)

2. that doesn't work for me, tried 15 times. I'm stuck with this turquoise error screen telling me to use emergency recovery in smart switch. i can easily get over to dload mode too. From either place, volDown + power gets the black screen and then immediately goes right back to the turquoise error screen, ignores anything else i seem to press, can't get into recovery.
No root for me either. It's hard lol. I miss it mostly for the adblocker. But I'm too worried that rooting with make it so I wouldn't be able to use Samsung pay when it comes out! If a root method is released that won't trip the KNOX sensor then heck ya, I'll root right away!

Hey everyone, I am new to this type of phone rooting stuff. For some reason I got bored and I read about rooting and thought id give it a go.
I used Odin and it said "Added!" at the end and everything, the phone restarted and I was able to use it, but for some reason the app that I rooted my phone for "Emoji Switcher" said it didnt detect Rooting, so I decided to reboot my phone. Now it stuck on the "Powered by Android" Screen. I cannot turn it off and this model doesnt have a removable battery. I am a newb to this, please help me. I just got this phone. Since its a nonremovable batt. i think they've added the option to force reset it with holding power button for more than 10 seconds. If that works right after the restart press and hold power+home+volume up buttons and it will take you to recovery in which you can reset the phone to factory settings.

Hi,
I'm having problems with my great Lumix phone, stuck in a bootloop. I got it in to ADB mode using this a thread: on another site, but cannot get further. Maybe my phone was in MTP before it got stuck in the bootloop. It definitely is running in developer mode. I am on 5.0.2 and the problem started when deinstalling Kingroot via Super Sume Pro
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Is there a regular factory reset mode, I can't find a keycombination that will start the factory reset other than the one in the thread. If not, does anyone know how to change the mtp to adb mode?
I hope someone out there does know the answer....

Try the power button + volume up
And see if that boots it into recovery.

Just tried, but does not go into recovery, just Lumix repeating itself. (I let go of the buttons as soon as the "starting system" was shown.

Try letting go the power button only when the "lumix logo" appear, and keep holding the volume button.
unfortunately, that does not work either. I noticed that the Lumix logo only apears on the second loop; i.e: first it starts with a screen powerd by Android twice, after the second it goes to Starting system and then Lumix. Maybe that does give you/someone a clue?

I thought that lumix logo is the first thing that shows app.
In that case you need to let go the power button when you see the "powered by android" logo, and keep holding the volume button.
In short, release on the first thing that show up, no matter what it is..lumix logo..android logo..etc

Tnx again, but no, I'm sorry, that does not do the trick. Stays in the bootloop, no recovery choices in this way.

Ok, last thing to suggest is to search google for:
"(your model number) recovery mode"
Or any other suggestions that comes in your mind, i tried doing that but "Lumix phone" didn't come out with anything related because it's not accurate.

Hello mate, I have the same bootloop issue after uninstalling KingRoot. Did you fix your phone somehow?
I'm in the same boat - stuck in boot loop at "Lumix" logo. I tried Power + Volume Up/Down to no vail.
