HTC Evo 3D root problems.... - HTC EVO 3D

I have a HTC Evo 3D and I used HTCdev's bootloader unlocker to unlock my HBoot 1.5. Trying to find a rom to flash/fastboot in order to set "s-off" and gain SU permissions. Stuck in the middle of it and dont know what to do next......wish I kept my HTC Evo 4G :-(
Any hints or advice welcome, and thanks for reading my post...

What rom are you trying to flash ?
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D using XDA App

I haven't tried to flash any roms yet when im checking out these rom pages most of them require you to be in superuser mode, which i am not yet in. only unlocked the bootloader so far. just looking for a point in the right direction from someone with HBoot 1.5 on Evo 3D who has successfully been able to get the su permissions to work with a 'stock-like' mod that just unlocks the su.
also, my S-On is still on which wont let me enable the flash from hboot so i would need a process to get it thru using my laptop
I believe i need the proper PG86IMG.zip file associated with my phone also.
I already have the correct files such as SDK, java, and htc drivers.

Take a look at the unlock guide from zedomax. It should be a sticky. Also, you won't get s-off with the htc unlock.

[Q] temp root questions

So instead of waiting for revolutionary, im going to temp root because I don't want to use HTC's method. So, by doing so:
1)if I temp root and then I reboot the device, will any problems occur or will I just lose my root but it'll be the same as stock?
2) Can I remove a bloatware that I can't remove completely (Qik Video for example) with temp root?
3) Can I install the Google Talk with Voice/Video Chat (Link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1230795) and will it work?
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH

How do you plan on temp rooting? I am pretty sure that the fre3vo temp root method no longer works if you're on 1.5hboot. Also, if you were to somehow accomplish temp root, anything you remove from /system/ will be back after a reboot. I would just use HTC`s method. You can flash whatever your want, minus radios.

I want to use fre3vo.
Well I just switched from an intercept to my EVO3D (3VO haha). What's the point of flashing radios?
I want to perma root, but wont that destroy my battery life?

If you want to have any root at all, as of right now the only thing you can do is use the HTC unlock method. It should definitely not destroy your battery life, not sure what prompted you to think it will destroy your battery life, but it won't.
Also, the point of flashing a radio is just to stay up to date with whatever radios HTC releases. Sometimes it will give you better signal, but usually you will be just fine staying on whatever radio you're already on.

So HBOOT 1.50 has no temp root (fre3vo does not work?)
Well I could use a signal boost for the radio as I don't get to much coverage indoors. :/ I'm not sure what to do, can I un-root and turn s-on ( *** Locked***) again?

The temp-root exploit that fr3vo used has been patched. Since you are on HBOOT 1.5 you have the latest radio. You can't turn S-ON because you never get S-OFF with the HTC method.

Also, If i root using HTC's method, will I lose all my apps and data :O

Also, how am I supposed to backup my apps without root?
As far as backing up your app's without root, try linda file manger. And what flash is saying is the htc method is not a true unlock. Therefore you can't get your Evo3d to be s-off because your on hboot 1.5 so the only way you can unlock your phone is threw htc's method. The methods of truly unlocking your Evo3d are not an option for Evo3d's with the 1.5 boot loader. So in short you don't have to worry about getting your phone s-off and going back to stock because you can't get s-off. You can still however flash roms, mods, kernels, etc. You do however have to flash kernels threw fast boot or threw Joey k's app. Hope this helps. If you need more info send me a pm.

I think the only publicly released exploit for root on EVO 3D works with software versions 1.11 and 1.13 but was patched by HTC in software version 2.08 and is called fre3vo developed and released by agrabren. This exploit was also integrated and used in the AlphaRevX revolutionary tool to gain temp root access before modifying the bootloader.
Original thread and guide by agrabren, I located by typing fre3vo into google.com: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150006
Hope that helps!
You can not get temp root. Temp root methods for hboot 1.4 were patched with the release of hboot 1.5...
You have been told this already in this thread several times. You have two option. Hurry up and wait for revolutionary to do there thing or you can unlock VIA htcs onlick method.
HTC method will void your warranty. It registers your serial number with them and there's no way around that. Also it is not a true s-off root. It will allow you to write to system to root but will leave the s-on still. This is easily fixed by GUI flash image developed by joeykrim, or by learning to use fastboot commands. Which BTW are easy and fast. I can use fastboot to flash a system.img data.img and boot.img as well as a recovery image in about 4 seconds of typing. Your best bet is to get the sdk set up and get fastboot working. Use fastboot to flash a recovery. You do this by putting the recovery image of your choose into the platform-tools folder of the sdk & rename it to recovery.img . Navigate with windows explorer to the platform tools folder. Assuming you have win7 hold shift and right click an empty spot in the folder and choose open cmd window here. In your cmd window type the following with no quotes..
"Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" and hit enter.
That flashes your recovery, now to use it you need to boot recovery with fastboot
" fastboot boot recovery recovery.img" then enter.
Something about fastboot booting the recovery completly negates the s-on flag allowing full access to all partions on the device.
Again no temp root at all. It's possible but your gonna have to develop your own exploit. Good luck.

Okay, I understand now.
So there is no temp root or perma-temp root for HBOOT 1.5 correct?
(I also don't think there is a way to downgrade your hboot).
I want to use HTC's method but it erases all of the phones data(factory reset).

To clarify on the technical details, in case anybody comes across this later, the fre3vo temp root exploir, I quoted here and linked to in my previous post in this thread, exploited an area inside the kernel.
The kernel was patched in software release 2.08*. the fre3vo exploit is not related to hboot or hboot version. The hboot version number 1.5 coincided with software release 2.08* but did not patch the temp root exploit itself.
The kernel update in software version 2.08* and assuming all future versions has/will be patched against the fre3vo exploit.
Also link for Flash Image GUI mentioned above, http://goo.gl/sNi7V . Thanks for the support! Works well when away from a computer but wanting to change kernels/ROMs!
Also, will echo the above post, should always use and become familar with custom recovery for backup proposes. There is not a very good way around this therefore it is strongly encouraged!
Hope the additional technical details help currently or in the future!

[Q] Evo 3D (GSM) rooting @ HBoot 1.49.0018

HeyHou,
I'm very new to this forum ( this is my 1st post ), but i had visited this forum many times before...
now i have a problem: last week i bought a evo 3d gsm from amazon...
i unlocked the bottloader with the htc unlock methid - everything fine...
then i tried to "root" it but it didnt work... ( i'm very new and i only know how to jailbreak iphones, lol) - i followed this two toturials, bot none worked:
Code:

==>I have no acces to mmcblk0p31.img
Code:

==> it simply doesn't work, lol

Can anyone help me..?
I have exactly the same problem dude...
I found a solution for my problem, maybe it can help you aswell?
My goal was to have a rooted EVO 3D with LeeDroid's Custom ROM on it.
1.) Use HTC Super Tool v3 to root your phone! (Just follow the on-screen steps)
2.) Download Rom Manager from the market and install CWM Recovery
3.) Now you can flash a custom ROM on your device
---------------------------------------------------------------
You still have have the same Hboot version and S-on (I tried to attempt S-Off with super tool, but i got an error message)
but your phone is rooted and you have CWM on it!
Guys guys download the ruu from the stickies in dev forum for your device run it will downgrade your bootloader to 1.49.007 then root with HTC supertool then allowing you to unlock bootloader with rev rather than htcdev so you can lock it again without the relock sign means if you want to go back to stock re run ruu takes out cwm then take the ota update back to stock locked bootloader not relocked did post a thread about this but as usual I just get ingnored

[Q] Not a Noob but could use some help with pg86img on hboot 1.50 S-on

I've been doing this **** for well over 2 yrs now and im either having a serious brain fart of perhaps this hasn't been entirely, exactly discussed yet .... I have googled til the cows come home and can't find an answer.
Im on hboot 1.50 with S-on bootloader is unlocked through HTC Dev
I want to flash the new i.c.s. PG86IMG.zip that Freeza (the one without the new 1.57 hboot) just put out to go along with the ICS ruu that Virtuous has put out however I know that I cannot just put the pg86img on my sd card and flash it by holding down the - volume button and power through bootloader....
MUST i relock my bootloader, ruu it back to stock and then go about it doing that way OR is there a way that I can use commands to flash the PG86IMG.zip file?????
Help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: I just relocked my bootloader, RUU'd it back so now I have a relocked bootloader, with hboot 1.50 S-on and when I take my battery out, put it back in- hold down vol down while pressing power....then it scans and finds the pg86img.zip but it does not offer me a chance to install the pg86img I'd REALLY appreciate some input here. Thanks.
I was too lazy/tired to downgrade so I just wiped and flashed just to see what would happen and it worked. After it booted, it was stuck on the HTC setup so I pulled the battery and rebooted it. I'm on Hboot 1.50 with S-ON.
I cannot for the life of me get the PG86IMG.zip file flashed.... i've PM'd a few different dev's but heard nothing back yet.
Man you should have atleast unlocked your bootloader first see if you can boot in to boatloader and fastboot USB if so then you can correct the problem

This is such an annoying issue. I can run an ruu.exe such as RUU_Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5_Radio_1.06.00.1216_NV_NV_spcs_1.42_release_233304_signed_2.exe and go back to stock without any problems, I can unlock my bootloader, I can "root" the phone, even though I am on hboot 1.50 with S-ON the problem is no matter how many ways I try to flash
PG86IMG_Shooter_ICS_35_S_Sprint_WWE_VM_1.13.652.1_Radio_1.06.00.0426_NV_1.53_144_release_259069_signed.zip that Football sent me, I cannot get it install it after it scans and finds it -renamed to PG86IMG (.zip) it always goes back to hboot and says:
CID incorrect!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot.
If it was me I would just root

Depending upon which DEV i've spoken to, i've been told to try this that and the other and lol nothing works. I dont get it. I've been told to go back entirely to stock unrooted; that didn't work. Been told to root it, that didn't work.
I never had any problems flashing roms using htc dumlock but the problem is, the file I am trying to flash is not one that can be flashed through CWM/TWRP, only by being renamed PG86IMG and being started through hboot.
any other suggestions? hell i'll try em all!
I would go back to stock and start from scratch
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda premium
LOL im back to stock started from scratch and nada.
i'll end up most likely having to wait, like everyone else for the .exe file to be released

oh and you need to change your cid number to HTC__001 and it will work
With HTC unlock, you cant flash radios (freeza's zip) & splash screens that are part of those custom PG86IMG zips. The only way to flash an Ruu is to have stock recovery/relocked and to flash the same or newer fw version (2.08, 2.17, etc).
I'm not 100% sure but the ics leak version is 1.13 which may not pass the version check.
I've read some posts that indicate an hboot 1.4 downgrade for S-off is required as things sit right now. Definitely changing daily though.

To further reiterate, S-ON means you do not have permissions to certain partition of the phone to flash radios, or flash kernels/roms without the 1.5 fastboot workarounds. The firmware freeza has, requires access to that certain partition. So without s-off (1.4) you cannot flash the firmware/radio for ICS.

[ROOT] HTC EVO 3D Root Toolkit

Hi guys.
I have recently developed a simple HTC Evo 3D Root Toolkit. This toolkit is very simple and easy to use, just follow onscreen instructions and in few clicks root your device. After rooting process you will get Unlocked Bootloader (S-OFF),Custom recovery (you can chose within cwm, cwm touch and twrp), Root access(SuperSU or Superuser app). I update this app very soon and if you see some bugs and things like that please send me a message. App is tested and you must accept the Disclaimer window. The website for this app will arrive very soon. I hope that this app will be very useful for you and if you like it click thanks button and spread the word about this project.

I am not responsible for any damage to your device and bricking it...
...I've been trading PMs with ShadowGaba and this toolkit is quite worth it, actually.
For an unlock no0b such as myself, I was initially cowardly. In the end, after about 12 hours of trial-and-error, it's still absolutely worth it.
Although not entirely clear, SGs toolkit did a successful job of unlocking, installing a recovery, and installing a superuser.
Some of the steps almost felt superfluous, but SG's right; for the most part, follow the directions and you'll unlock successfully.
The only snag for me was having to switch to 4ext recovery (the toolkit offers only twrp and clockworkmod; it'd be nice if 4ext was one of the choices) in order to smartflash a ROM; only because I'm still on 1.58 hboot and S-on, post-unlocking. (Many ROMS just don't flash properly because of the 1.58 hboot and S-on; besides, many posts recommended 4ext recovery in smartflash mode to properly load ROMs, anyhow.)
Although I won't be enjoying any JB ROMs until I wire-trick my way to S-off and/or downgrade my hboot, I am currently enjoying Nega-Lite's Blu-Rom 2.95.651.5 immensely, without fail.
The battery-life and the smoothness are incredibly slick and worth it to flash to from my God-awful, battery-draining, store-bought VM JB OS.
I personally think I'm resourceful enough to get through any snags in the toolkit process, but ShadowGaba was well on-hand and curious to know if I unlocked successfully.
To the fearful, I'm sure SG would help out if you're stuck.
If you're questioning whether or not to unlock, I say go for it; so many delicious ROMs for your HTC EVO 3D await your discovery.
Cheers, ShadowGaba.

After Unlocking bootloader using this toolkit you will be able to flash custom roms, but not the custom kernels.
But, using one simple trick you can flash custom kernels:
1.Boot into recovery using fastboot or using HTC Dumlock

Okay meatfest. To get S-OFF you must downgrade hboot to 1.49 and use revolutionary to gain S-OFF.
I will explain why your bootloader says Unlocked and S-ON. HTC has modified new devices HBOOT-s, in other words , they have prohibited flashing custom kernels and some roms to your and mine device. So you have couple solutions:
1.Downgrade HBOOT and gain Revolutionary S-OFF
2.Use HTC Dumlock
3.Flash 4ext recovery
4.Boot into recovery using fastboot and flash ...

Hi, I have hboot 1.58 and software 2.95 and the HTC Dev Unlock method does not work for my phone. The commands go thru but the phone never switches to the Unlock Screen. Do you know of a way to unlock without using the HTC Unlock method??

I ran into the same issue with mine. The issue in my case it was the adb files needed to generate the code to unlock it per the HTC unlock method. The adb files I used (as I am sure you did the same) was part of some package that included it. So I decided to just download the adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20131030 and executed the CMD prompt from adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20131030\sdk\platform-tools. Then I followed the HTC Unlock instructions and it worked.
Files for download
Do you still have this available as when clicking link said site was not available.
Thank you for your time

Pls I'll be so glad if I can find some help.
You're already S-Off, why are you trying to unlock via htcdev.com?? To unlock via htcdev.com (which is not a complete unlock, unlike S-Off) then you have to be on the newest bootloader version. HBOOT-0.89.0007. I thought there was actually a link to the little RUU update that is just for the bootloader on the bottom of the walkthrough @ htcdev? It's been awhile since I played with one, but I'm sure it was there. If not, I can upload it. I am sure it's hanging around somewhere. But yea, unless you relocked it and stayed S-Off, all the htcdev stuff would not be needed.
Exactly as stated above
If there is an engineering bootloader for your phone you should get that as well, if I'm not mistaken the proper way of rooting your device is to exploit it with gfree, similar to the vision a phone I used for a long time, all info should be in the xda wiki to see if greed was used to exploit and how to flash the eng hboot

So pls how do I update to the latest hboot 0.89.0007
So pls how do I update to the latest hboot 0.89.0007 or how else can I unlock the bootloader and root?
What do you mean? It's the very beginning of the steps on how to unlock @ htcdev.com (and the RUU is there, just like I mentioned earlier). Are you certain that you need to do this? It seems like you have not done much research and might be getting yourself into more work than is needed.
so pls can I flash custom rom just with my s-off
Yes, you just need a custom recovery such as twrp, cwm, 4ext
But what you should do is go to the xda wiki or cyanogen wiki and follow the steps for rooting, these guides will give you true radio s-off, an engineering bootloader and a custom recovery so you can easily flash ROMs and easily fix your phone if issues come about
To answer you directly, yes you should be able to flash custom ROMs as is, but having to ask that questions makes me think you should read more about your device or the next thread you make will probably ask for help fixing a brick
