guys,
I just upgrade to .15 and since then, there is no device charging via the wall charger.
I tried to restart it 10 times, tried to plug the power while the device is off and on....nothing.
I read other people have the same issues, but how's the hell I'm solving it?
How do I restore to ver .13 manually?
Please help...its urgent... my keyboard battery almost off, and my tablet battery is on 85%...
Thanks,
Tomer
Did you try to plug it in the tablet and in the keyboard?
Both don't work?
Also I saw this in another thread :
"ANSWER - Simples, reset with a paper clip using the small hole by the SD card in the Tab. Ten seconds. Restart.
Tablet and Dock start to recharge instantly. No problems since. No setting seem to be lost, all Skype contacts, Wireless passwords intact.
Don't panic and don't send it back. Hope this helps."
If what Anthony recommends does not work, try a Hard Reset:
1) Turn off your Prime (while not plugged in)
2) Hold the VOLUME DOWN and POWER button (this takes a number of seconds!) until you get text in the upper left of your screen, then let go (you should see 2 icons in the middle of your screen
3) Just wait at this point until your Prime reboots (you will see a message about Linux Cold Boot, or something like that)
Then try to charge your Prime...
(No data is lost on a Hard Reset)
I would think that the reset button on the side or the factory reset would fix it. Are you rooted?
what does the reset button on the side do? does it completely reset the tablet?

It's the same as a simple restart (reboot), as far as I know, but it can work even when the power button is non-responsive for whatever reason.
Might be the wall plug itself. Mine crapped out for a bit... No idea why, I just had to leave it unplugged for a while, tried it again and it worked. I left mine unplugged for like 12 hours. Not saying that's like the minimum for it or anything, just how long I gave mine before trying it. There's a thread on here somewhere about peoples chargers crapping out temporarily. Some put theirs in the freezer for a while and such lol. I'd recommend looking that up and giving it a read, it might help you before you end up wiping your tablet clean or sending it to Asus or something.

He can prove its not the charger itself if:
When he plugs in his dock to his tablet, the Dock shows X% of battery left.
Then plugs in the dock to the charger for a while, then plugs it back in the tablet.
If the dock has a battery % greater than what it did initially, then the charger is working.. Otherwise either BOTH the tablet and dock stopped charging coincidentally, or the charger is broke
the rest hole next to the MicroSD solve the issue.
Thanks guys.
appreciated!

Well I updated this morning and mine is not charging. Tablet charged fine last night overnight. Here is what I have tried so maybe someone can add any other tests that I may have missed. (no dock)
Tests and results:
- I have tried multiple outlets in my house. No charging
- I can charge a nook tablet with the Asus brick and that charges fine
- I can transfer data back and forth with the data connected to my laptop
- With the Prime off and cable connected to the brick or laptop and then connected to Prime, Prime starts up, so it looks like it senses the connection.
- Did a full data wipe and all tests done with Prime at default mode; nothing. Also did a hard reboot; no luck.
- Tablet seems to charge very slowly (although no indication that it is charging) when it's plugged into the Asus brick or Nook brick and then shutdown.
I just put the Prime charger in the freezer for 30 min to see if that helps. I had to do this before with my TF101 when I had it. I can't see it being the cable because I just left it overnight last night to charge plus I don't a spare one to test with.
The Nook brick doesn't charge the Prime when on (will test this out when the Prime starts charging correctly; would make a great alternative charger)
Even though it looks like is can charge will completely off, that is a major inconvenience and an RMA should fix that.

So last night before I went to sleep, my NT had about 40% battery life left in it. I'm currently running the final alpha build of CM7. I've been experiencing really bad wifi loss issues and have kept the 'Never' option enabled under the wifi sleep policy (thinking that would help hold the connection).
I woke up to find the NT was turned off. Figured that was odd as I was only asleep for about 5hrs. I turned it on and then noticed it got into the OS and then died. I did see the battery icon was red briefly.
I then plugged it into the wall and it was boot looping. I saw the 'n' logo pop up, screen went black, 'n' logo, etc. etc.
After numerous attempts of holding down the power button for 20+ seconds, holding power+vol down for 10 seconds, plugging it with or without an sd card into the wall and computer, nothing is happening.
The computer does see something as I'm hearing the common connected/disconnected tone from the USB port. Now I'm noticing that plugged into the wall, the 'n' on the cable stays orange. It never turns green.
Did it go 'poof' in the night somehow?
[EDIT] Ok after leaving it plugged into the wall for about 15mins, it suddenly turned on but had a google framework FC error. Yeah, not sure what I should do at this point. It appears to be charging...
It's been noted by others that if the power level goes below 15% you mustn't turn the device off if you don't have the original charger nearby. If it dies you need to charge it with the original charger for a bit before it'll power back up.
I assume this means that you can't run it off the cable while you've got a completely dead battery. That kind of stinks but isn't too surprising, a lot of devices are like that.
So does that mean that if the device is <40% of battery I need to plug it in if I won't be around it for a while? Not sure I'm cool with that. Battery life was great all day yesterday but somehow it dropped 40% in under 5hrs while asleep.
I can't really say much as I haven't dealt with it personally. People were talking about it in a couple threads about the NT's charger and unique 12 pin cable.
Here's what I understand from what I've read:
You can run it until it's empty all you like. You'll just need to use the Nook's factory charger (or a compatible 2A charger with bridged D- and D+ pins) AND (this is the important one) the factory USB cable to charge it.
If you run it until it dies you have to charge it for a little while before it'll turn on again, BUT you have to use the original cord and charger. It won't charge off of a regular micro USB cable nor will it work if you're using a 2A or smaller charger that doesn't have the middle two pins bridges (the Apple UBS chargers won't work nor will your PC's USB ports, for example).
The NT will charge, albeit slowly, if connected with a third party cable or USB charger (without the data lines D- and D+ bridged), but not if the device's power has been depleted.
So I suspect something sucked up a lot of juice while you weren't using your NT. Not a huge deal, but definitely annoying. Plug it in for 15 minutes and you can get rolling again.... BUT only if you're using the original charger and cable. Lovely isn't it? It's not a huge problem but it is annoying. I wish you could at least use the device with a dead battery while plugged in.
I just mention the charger/stock cable thing because I'm sure someone will probably see this post in the future and may be having that particular problem resuscitating their NT.
Cool, yeah I don't specifically set out to run it down to zero but since the device is clean with minimal stuff running in the background, it's difficult to know when this might happen again. I assumed I'd wake up with like 20-25% battery left. The framework FC is also something I'm concerned about but maybe it was just a fluke.
Ah well, really do appreciate your input and I'll be sure to keep the stock cable/adapter on hand when I'm on the go.
Battery showed fully charged, I rebooted to do another CWM backup and then when it came back up it showed 84% charged. Lol. And this pic made me laugh even more. Time to get that lady from Poltergeist involved I think...
The Google Framework force close is typical of stock rooted NTs. I don't believe it ever did any harm to anything though. Just that it sometimes appears on reboot.
I'll ask one additional question as to not make another topic since it's related.
Opinions on battery calibration with the NT? That was one of the reasons I didn't charge it last night as I wanted to fully run it down and then fully charge it back up. Does the NT require this with a new rom install? That pic above shows the battery gauge clearly wasn't correct initially.
Your battery is draining overnight because wifi is running the whole time (as you stated in your first post).

That's what I obviously thought of at first but it didn't drain nearly as much when I was using it throughout the day. The only thing I can think of is maybe the fuel gauge itself was wrong from the start, which refers back to my calibration question.
My GS2 has the sleep policy set to 'Never' as well and only loses maybe 7-8% after being asleep for around 7-8hrs and it certainly uses more juice in sleep due to the cell communication, etc.
I just got my new Prime in today and it is completely dead. Plugging it in via the wall charger or USB in my computer, I do not get any charge lights. From what I have read, the wall charger can have some issues and it may take several hours for the unit to charge enough to turn on, but I do not get any charge lights. When plugged into my PC through USB, I dont get any new devices in device manager.
Are there any tricks or resets that I have missed? I will leave it on the charger, but it looks like I am going to have to return it for another one
This happened to me yesterday. I had left it on while out of town, got home and it was dead. I plugged it in and no lights, no sound, no nothing. Left it plugged in for about 10 minutes and then went back to try. Held down power button for about 20 seconds, nothing. Tried holding it down again for about 20 seconds, nothing, and then when I released the power button it vibrated and powered up. Don't know if this helps, hope it does.
Try the paperclip into the reset hole below the micro-sd card slot.
Try putting the power adapter in a baggie and throw it in the freeze for a little while. This is been posted before and got me going again after mine did the same thing. I had always left my adapter plugged into the wall and some seem to think it for whatever reason causes it to overheat or stop working.
Last thing. The Prime will not charge off of a PC using USB ever. Only 5vdc from USB and it takes like 12-15 volts to charge the Prime.
Good luck,

That is incorrect. It will charge, when turned COMPLETELY OFF from 5v, although it is at a VERY slow rate. 15 volts is required for full speed charging.

I stand corrected then. I did not know that. Thanks for the heads up!

The freezer trick is for if the charger seems to be overheating.... If you notice it gets very hot then thats a quick way to cool it down (happens from time to time)
You can also try ipad chargers, they should be able to put out the 12-15 volts the prime uses to charge, or you can build a custom charger, theres a few threads on XDA about it
It will take roughly three times longer to charge via the computer with the prime OFF, with the prime on its using about as much power as its getting so having it plugged in to the computer will do basically nothing.
Hopefully this helps
Ipads have a 3,6 v battery and they chargeat 5v usb

Look at your charger brick. The plug end can slide off of the brick part. I've had mine slide slightly and you couldn't tell that there was not good contact between the transformer part and the plug part and it would not charge. I thought, oh good, my charger is dead then I realized what was going on. Snapped it back it place charged fine.
yep, gotta put some force towards sliding it in until it clicks

just thought i throw in there
it doesn't have to be completely off
as long as the screen is turned off, it'll be charging your prime too~
but as the poster says, it is a very slow rate
prob takes about 8 hours for full charge~
Bought a Flyer on the Buy.com $199 deal a while back:
First one arrived DOA and too deeply discharged to take a charge. I called Buy.com and they replaced it for free (good service). Strike one.
Second one arrived and worked great for months. I rooted it, S-OFF and upgraded to last Honeycomb OTA. It was awesome until one morning I came down to find it boot-looping for no reason. I tried everything to get it back up and in the end it was declared dead by SquareTrade. They took it and swapped the mainboard (different device serial number). Strike two.
The third one (with new mainboard) worked until last night (you know, just as ICS is coming available). I found it powered off and plugged into the wall-wart charger. I pressed the power button and it booted up all the way to Android, where it declared itself out of power (1%) and shut off promptly. I tried a different charger (wall-wart to USB power) and it blew out that charger (now dead) and got really warm on the power port. Tried a PC and still couldn't charge. Got the "magic smoke / hot electronics" smell from the area around the charge/USB port. I quickly unplugged the USB cable (quite warm) and walked away disgusted. Strike three.
So. just now, I managed to get it booted again into recovery and did a complete factory wipe, format cache, dalvik, wipe battery stats. To my great surprise it finished this before auto-shutdown due to flat battery. :fingers-crossed: Selected Power Off. After that it would never respond to the power button at all... so I figured I had struck out.
Well, for giggles I plugged the HTC wallwart charger back in (even though last night it never registered as charging)... the power button went to blinking red (from just-plain-off). I let it sit for a couple minutes like that, then powered it on and SURPRISE, it made it through the first-boot setup and into Settings/About Tablet/Battery where it shows it is charging AC.
This thing MAY BE alive! :good:
Has anyone else ever seen something like this?
Do you think the Wipe Battery Stats is what let it start charging again?
Should I follow up with SquareTrade and try to get this replaced anyway?
Not normal behaviur - i would go replace it as i would be always nervous looking at it.
Update!
Okay more data for the fodder.
I let it charge completely and the unplugged it to check if the GPS was working. After a short time to lock-on (yeah!) I took it back to my PC to see if I could connect to mount the SD card. The PC would NOT recognize the Flyer at all... nor would the charge light come on.
I then tried plugging in the HTC wall wart and it STILL wouldn't switch to charging. This is odd. The plug (right at the USB cable end/port) gets really warm.
I reboot to recovery and clear battery stats and then back into ROM and guess what? It's charging again.
I think the USB port or something is really messed up. I just wonder why Wiping Battery Stats fixes things.
Anyone?
Had this exact problem. The charging pins got pushed back out of place for the tablet/charger to make a stable connection. You have to openthe flyer then press the charging chip back in the charger port until its firmly in its place. It's realy simple if you find how to take the flyer apart. You'll need a torx screw size 6.
Edit do it at your own risk. If you follow through take your time
..............
Mine is doing the same thing. It's staying at only 2%. I'd try to set it to factory settings but way too risky with the battery that low. Let it charge overnight and everything. Going to play around with rebooting it a few times or charging it while it's totally off. The light on the power supply is green and working fine. The LED on the tablet is solid red.
EDIT: After many attempts and trying to reset it, trying to boot up while holding down the volume down button and plugging it and unplugging it from the charger while booting, nothing seems to work. It refuses to boot up at all. LED on tablet will flash red three times when I hit the reset button when it's unplugged. Light is solid red while plugged into charger and will flash three times red when I try to reset it while it's plugged in. Going to contact Sony tomorrow for warranty support if I can't get my problem solved here. Also I was not in possession of this tablet for the past few weeks, I had given it to a friend who was trying to sell it for me and he said the tablet wouldn't charge past 12% for a long time. So it looks like the problem has been getting worse over time and now the tablet seems to be pretty much dead. I had only used the thing for like 3 days too.
---------- Post added at 11:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:54 PM ----------
After about 20 minutes with technical support chat just now they recommended to send it in for servicing. I'm going to call tomorrow for more information but I'd rather not send it in. I'm down in Chile right now trying to sell this thing. I had a friend bring it down for me and I don't really have room to bring it back just to get serviced and then have to sell a might-still-be-broken tablet back home in the USA. If anyone has any tips for getting this thing to get back to normal please help out!
Oh, the chat tech suggested unplugging the device and then holding down the power button for 30-45 seconds then plugging it back in for about 2 minutes and then try turning it on. It didn't work for me but give it a shot!
After letting it sit overnight I tried turning it on again and voila! It booted! At 2% battery still. Been trying to charge it for over an hour now and still not up to 3%. Situation seems pretty bleak. No suggestions from anyone? I'll be returning to the States in a week, I hope that someone has an idea of what to do by then.

It sounds like either the charger or the tablet's battery is defective. If you have access to a voltmeter, test the charger to see if it is outputting 10.5 VDC. As shown by the diagram on the bottom of the charger, the two center pins of the plug are used for charging the tablet, so connect a voltmeter to those two pins. The pin closest to the cable is the negative (or DC common) pin.
If the voltmeter indicates the charger is outputting approximately 10.5 VDC, then it is likely the charger is good and the tablet's battery is defective. If this is the case, the tablet will need to be sent to Sony for repair.
If the voltmeter indicates a voltage significantly lower than 10.5 VDC or no voltage at all, then the charger is defective. If this is the case, you will need to get a replacement charger, hopefully for free from Sony if the charger is still under warranty.
Having similar issue
I am having the same issue, sort of. I got my tablet the 08/08. As soon as I got it I updated to ICS, so I can't really say for sure if the update is to blame as I didn't use it much before the update. At first I got flickering on occasion on the screen. Like some random app, that I was not currently on, came to the front then disappeared again. Right now it is the 10th, at 1:32am and yesterday at around 4pm I had turned it off to go to the gym. I come back and it is not turning on. I set it on the dock and the green led turns on, and I manage to power it up. The screen though starts showing random messed up images like when you get bad reception on tv. I know the logo and power on clip it shows and I can see those colors but all warped. Then it disappeared and it showed the password screen fine and the screen was ok from then on. I lifted it off the port and it turned back off. I put it back on the dock and turned it again, showed the same weird images. When it was up fine, I went to battery settings and it showed the battery at 100% but where it says how much time I had left, it has 16secs. The dock and charger where fine since I got them. But I will check the volts.
My apologies if this has been posted previously - but I cannot seem to find anyone who has had an identical issue...
My TF201 has worked perfectly since purchased - but in the last 4-6 weeks I have started to notice issues with battery life and as I have been busy with other more pressing issues I have simply been charging it more regularly and 'ignoring' the situation. However I have now realised that the problem appears to be related to the fact that the dock is not charging the tablet from it's battery reserve when the tablet is running low.
I have also noticed that when charging the unit it never gets a 'green' fully charged light on the dock and simply remains 'amber' irrelevant of how long it is left charging...
I have tried the 'cold boot' ('volume down' and power button for more than 12 seconds etc.) - which does initiate the cold boot but does appear to resolve the issue...
I have always charged both items docked and only use the original charger...
I have the same issue which started around the same time. I have also noticed that my dock is not charging although the tablet will while connected to the dock. The dock was at full battery when I noticed it was no longer transferring power to the tablet as the tablets battery got low. Now the dock is around 90% and does not increase regardless of how long it is left on charge. I have tried charging the dock by itself as well; still no luck. The tablet does indicate the dock is connected and the keyboard still funcions. This appears to be an issue with the dock battery being unable to transfer power whether from the plug or to the tablet. Any advise as to what to troubleshoot next would be appreciated.

I'm having the same issue, too.
I just noticed the same behavior this past week, after having owned the tablet+dock for almost two years with no problems.
The tablet just drains completely whether it's docked or not. The dock is holding a steady 77% charge but does not transfer this charge to the tablet when it's docked. The tablet charges normally when plugged in directly to the wall (using the original charger) or when docked and the dock is plugged in to the wall. The keyboard continues to function normally.
I haven't received any system updates recently either, so I can't think of anything that has changed in the software configuration to make this happen suddenly. Glad that it's happening to other folks and not just me! Has anyone tried a factory reset?
Update: tried the factory reset, but it didn't help.
I found some discussion over on the Transformer Forums, but unfortunately I can't post a link to it. Search google for "transformer forums faq definitive thread battery" to find it.
See for example comments #335, #340, #345-353.
The first post in that thread suggests a couple of things to try, including popping the charger into the freezer (I kid you not), doing a cold boot with the dock attached, and trickle-charging the dock off a PC's USB port. If all that fails, they say to contact ASUS for a warranty repair because it's probably a hardware fault.
I've tried all of those except the trickle-charge, and in addition tried a factory reset. I also opened up the dock, disconnected the battery and reconnected it, and reseated some of the other connectors on the board. Nothing has helped.
My dock is out of warranty (it's two years old) so I suppose that's the end of the road.
Same problem
I have a TF201 with dock that worked perfectly until mid October or maybe early November. After not finding a solution online and talking to ASUS several times I sent in my tablet and dock to have it repaird as they said it was a hardware problem. ASUS wanted nearly $300 to replace the motherboard! I said thank you, but please send it back. I don't believe there is motherboard problem because it is too much of a coincidence that this proble started after receiving the GPS dongle and trying it on the TF201.
The symptoms are
1. the dock doesn't fully charge
2. the tablet will not charge from the dock
3. The tablet will fully charge when the charger is plugged into the dock
Any suggestions are really appreciated. I have done cold boots, with and without the dock.
thanks

Seeing the same symptoms here. Why on earth would they want to replace the motherboard? The tablet appears to be working just fine, it's the dock that's apparently screwed. And $300? Are they out of their ever-lovin' minds? So, were you out shipping one way, or two, if you don't mind my asking?
My solution was to buy a Note 10.1 2014.
Happening to me too:
Post copied from thread I made in error:
After suffering with stock jellybean on my Prime I decided to take the plunge and flash a custom rom.
I followed Matt Hill's guide on unlocking the bootloader and saving my back-ups. That went without a hitch. I then wanted to install the Hairybean 2.3.1 ROM but was still on flatline. I then flashed TWRP 2.5 and then again followed the hairybean install instructions to the letter. I used their supplied bootloader. That also went without a hitch and the Prime itself is running extremely well and I'm loving the new smoothness. When turning the machine on the Prime wanted to update the firmware on it which I declined. When I rebooted, it decided to update anyway. Still. Worked fine and was still silky smooth.
However. I have now noticed that my dock refuses to charge. If I plug the adapter into the dock and attach the tablet to the dock, the tablet will charge but the dock refuses to (even if the tablet is at 100%). I have tried removing the tablet and charging the dock on its own but it refuses. The light comes on the side, but doesn't indicate it is charging. Whats odd, is that when I plug the charger into the tablet and dock together, the widget shows the battery of the dock charges for a second, before then deciding not to. My tablet is at 100% but the dock is stuck at 16%.
Any ideas what might be causing this? Or how I can resolve it?
Thank you!

Facing the same problem. Tablet charges fine while connected to dock, but dock fails to charge. Steady at 5%. It continuously flashes amber light when charger is plugged in. Tablet is out of warranty (about 20 months old), so not sure what to do.
has anyone found a fix for this? mine is doing the same thing dock doesnt seem to be doing its job by powering the tablet really love my prime dont want to have to go and buy a new tablet just because the dock wont charge it.
My wife and I own a TF201 and have found that out of the 2 chargers, only 1 works to charge the tablets now and the other doesn't, and it's all in the actual plug, not the cable.
I've tried a bunch of other android and USB plugs and nothing works to charge them at all.
Have been looking at getting a genuine replacement charger for it so that we can charge both at the same time instead of sharing, but it works for the moment.
You might want to try a new charger too?
Same problem
[Exactly the same problems. TF201 Keyboard won't charge although the tablet does charge when power plugged into keyboard - but to only 99%. When plugged in directly, it happily charges to 100%, therefore the assumption is that the tablet is working fine. The keyboard won't charge at all under any circumstances and it is now down to 43% charge left - Aaaagh!
Crazy thing is that my partner's TF301 is now exhibiting the same symptoms!
I, too, contacted ASUS and they informed me it would cost £45 + VAT just to inspect the 201 and then cost ??? for repair.
Reading the other forum entries it almost sounds as if ASUS have fitted an obsolescence chip!! Just too many coincidences here.
My response: I've recently bought a new ASUS Windows 8 Transformer - I must be mad!
I recently got this same problem, with the classic symptoms:
1. the dock won't charge
2. the tablet will not charge from the dock
3. only the tablet will charge when the tablet is docked and the charger is plugged into the dock
I tried all the tricks I could find on the interweb - cold boots, trickle charging overnight, I even put my charger in the freezer. I even tried a custom ROM (ok, I was planning to do that anyway )
ASUS wanted £45 just to look at it, so I took the plunge and ordered a new dock battery for £30 off ebay (shipped from china). It took a few weeks to arrive, but it has solved the problem! It's a 15 minute job to swap it over, and as I write this, the dock is now charging!!! :good:
If anyone else wants to try it, the dock battery code for my UK model is C21-TF201D. You will need a small phillips head screwdriver and a small Torx star screwdriver to get the dock apart, but it's easy enough. There are tutorials on youtube and plenty of how-to's out there.
So between a battery and a new ROM, it feels like a new tablet again!! :good:
Same Problem + bulging
I have the same problem with my keyboard dock. Now the dock looks bulging in the middle, I think because of the battery. Other functions except charging still works. I cannot flip close tablet and dock attached because of the bulging.
Since the waranty is over, is it possible the dock still works without battery (if I remove the battery)? I'm afraid the battery will explode if I keep using it in this condition. If this is possible maybe I will ask ASUS Service Center to remove the battery since I don't want pay extra money to replace the battery, last time they said its about 85 USD.
Dock registers to tablet, I can see battery level.
Dock Battery is not charging
Dock battery is discharging slowly
It's possible to charge tablet through Dock
I guess something is broken inside so I'm going to open it. I've seen many videos but they are not helpful in this case.
Does someone have experience? Is it possible that battery pack is broken itself?
