I wrote a guide a few days ago about using Cerberus to recover your tablet if it was stolen here. Well now Cerberus is offering free licenses until February 29th to celebrate 100,000 users.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dFR4VHNka3czd2FJV2FIaXFYTHp0aGc6MQ
(if link doesn't work check their facebook page)
What Cerberus does.
It has three ways to protect your device:
- Remote control through the website www.cerberusapp.com
- Remote control via text messages
- SIM Checker (for devices that have a SIM card): you will automatically receive alerts if someone uses your phone with an unauthorized SIM card
Remote control allows you to perform many operations on your device, like:
- Locate and track it
- Start a loud alarm, even if the device is set to silent mode
- Wipe the internal memory and the SD card
- Hide Cerberus from the app drawer
- Lock the device with a code - Record audio from the microphone
- Get a list of last calls sent and received
- Get information about network and operator the device is connected to
- And much more!
Visit the market link to read the rest and download.

Installed and registered, thanks.
Not a problem, pity I didn't wait longer before buying mine lol.
Registered. Thanks!

Just played around with it, very cool!
Ahh man, this app is too cool. Just finished playing around with it. It works very well. Highly recommended. People better get ththis while license is free.
Don't forget to mention the license activates March 1st I completely overlooked that at first lol

Was just about to remind everyone that its a 7 day free trial for the app so they need to register at the google docs link and then when the 7 days is over it will be March 1st and it will continue.
Also to remind everyone - Cerberus has additional features if you integrate it into a rom. It cannot be uninstalled (I mean, it can only be deleted by flashing a new rom or using adb/terminal emulator, but I don't think a lot of thieves know how to do that), and GPS is automatically enabled when you send a "Start tracking" command. So on the website there is a flashable zip for easy installation in /system/app.
Lets hope they stay by their word

awesome peice of sofware recording people is fun with out them knowing lol keep making girlfriend jump with the alarm. On a serious note though it could be very usefull if stolen
How do you set to use WiFi to Track? I have Loaded App and register it. When I go to Website and it message to my Prime and I see it turns on my GPS but since GPS doesn't work I can't find my Location. Also I sent the Google Doc so on March 1st App will activate itself to Full time use?
Thanks
Installed seems pretty nice so far

So your gps is completely gone?
if your tablet can pinpoint its location, even with agps, Cerberus should be pick that up.
and yes, It says on the Doc march 1st liscenses will be activated so the freevweek trial will last until then.
Pretty cool app. I just sent myself a message and let it speak to me! Hahaha.
I can get GPS if I am outside but from inside my house or any building I have No GPS

Hi folks,
i recently read an article about an app called WalkSafe. It basically uses an algorithm to detect incoming cars using the camera while you are walking on the street and calling. It basically can save your life So I wanted to download it form the market, but found out it was not compatible with the Wildifire. So I downloaded the app from some filesharing website (the app is free so no piracy ) and installed it. But it just forever hangs on the startup screen (when there appears a bar under the status bar with the name of the app). Is there a fix for this? Is it wildfire related or app related ? I couldn't find anything on the web so far...
Thanks in advance
So you are ready to give your life into the hands of an app algorithm rather than waiting for a bit and getting off the street for texting/calling? Whatever floats your boat.
Anyway, its most probably the app itself. The devs have probably not configured it for low end devices.
Its not that i will trust this app, i was just curious to see if it works. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion

Ok ... I am a huge baseball fan.
The MLB At Bat 2012 app is the same for phones and tablets.
I am assuming, somewhere in the app, it checks to see what tablet and OS I am running on.
When it discovers my tablet isn't on the "supported list" (either in the app or a check online), it won't enable the live video features.
The damn Kindle Fire is supported, but at this point, the Prime isn't.
You can spoof locations ... but, can you spoof your tablet? ie when checked, have the tablet report it's a Samsung Galaxy, Fire, etc?
Sounds silly, I know ... but the devs at MLB won't just allow everyone to try to stream.. my 2 year old EVO streams just fine.
And I can actually stream live MLB games using desktop mode of Opera.. but, I can't "Fake GPS" ... it checks my ISP. With using the app on the phone, it checks phones position using GPS or Network or whatever..
Anyway, curious if it's possible ... lol anyone up for a crazy worthless challenge?!
Either that or crack that damn app so it doesn't check which device I have.. sigh.

Try changing the build.prop file in systems folder, some apps check that to get device info. Ie. System apk. Just replace each "transformer prime" with whatever you think is supported

I wouldn't change any files unless you know what you are doing.

Don't change your build.prop unless you want a brick. Many users have done this and ended up with bricks.

Changing the build.prop to a different device I think would be a bad idea.... I would definitely do a LOT of research first because you could really screw up badly.....
If you can post up the APK someone might be able to figure out what its checking and either disable it or find a workaround.
EDIT: Nevermind, I just saw on the Market it's a $15 paid app.
Sorry if this is a little bit unrelated, but this is one of the only forums where I've found people discussing the At Bat 12 app.
In the past I've spoofed my GPS location with the app "Fake GPS" (the OP alluded to this). This year it doesn't seem to be working. Did they change to using cell tower IDs or something instead of GPS location?
I am able to spoof. Wasn't originally, but I had forgot to allow mock locations.
That and turn off the check position by cell network.
Just watched Rays beat Yankees and Rays are blacked out here.

There is a LITE version that requires a log in to your MLB.TV subscription to get all the features. Kind of like Netflix (Which also didn't work with the Tranformer originally! lol )
Sorry, I don't know how to attach the apk and cant include a link as a n00b, but a market search for AT BAT LITE will bring it up.
I've got the same problem. No video.
My dad (in his early 70s) saw my Transformer and went out and bought a Prime thinking he could watch MLB through it. No Dice.
And while we've found a workaround using Opera, its horrible, difficult, and not very pretty (Just loging into his MLB.com account and streaming through the browser). The whole point of the app was to make it easy for a non-tech savvy guy like my old man.
If there's an easy solution to "fix" that app, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'd love to get the MLB working for him!
Anyone want to take a peek? I'll buy the beer.
Would be nice if they would just support it.
I am sure it's something small in the app.. something that is checking the device to see if it's on the "tested list".
I have both the Lite (which is free in both markets), and the $15 paid version.
I finally said screw it and ordered Dish with the regional sports package ($9/mo addon).. now, with that, I get the Rays, Marlins and Braves games live and in HD (they are blacked out on MLB.tv because I am in their market), and with MLB.tv on the PS3, Xbox and Roku, I get everything else (because games OUT of my market are blacked out on Dish). Black out rules are so strange.
I stream to my TFP using the Dish Android App, which connects to my Sling Adapted hooked up at home on my new Dish Hopper DVR.
It's not the same as a full functioning app, but, I can watch the Rays games live at work.
Never mind! The Transformer Prime is now working with MLB At Bat!

location
I am trying catch me if you can as a gps locator. I turned off wifi and gps locator. When I bring up the map it shows my fake location as expected, but at bat still locates me to in the blackout area? Are there steps that I am missing?
I use FakeGPS.
Check allow mock locations in the developer settings.
With Wifi on, Run FakeGPS. Map will download, set location. Run FakeGPS. Stop location. I do this initially so I can see the map. After you do this, fakegps will always have your location in that spit, so no need to download map everyone via wifi.
Turn off Wifi. Uncheck all 3 options in location settings.
Run FakeGPS.
Set location.
Turn on wifi.
Load at bat.
should be good to go.

Iv lQQked but either in the wrong place or its not here. Was wondering what's the best possible security measures HTC EVO 4G LTE rooted owners could take for our devices. I ran into sumn called "zAnti" but haven't done further research on said app. Thanks!

So what exactly are you trying to secure?
Best security as far as Android goes is encrypting the device and setting a Pattern Unlock (Make sure you wipe your screen frequently)
Cerberus from the amazon app store (cheaper then play)

Iv read that ppl w/advance knowledge of computers could piggyback your tethered connection and easily get most if not all information from your phone. Iv tried an app called AdbToggler but its conflicting with superSU or something. You can never be too secured but it helps knowing you can get pretty darn close and how to do so. Lol
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Security is always an illusion.
Just be safe about the apps you install.
Try not to install them from 3rd parties unless you really trust them (Amazon, GetJar, a recognized XDA developer).
If a hacker really wants the info on your phone bad enough, they'll get it.
You take risks with rooting a phone, less security is one of them.

zAnti is a security researcher's tool that can do some minor pentesting actions (network discovery, port scans, exploit vuln checks). Think of it like a baby Nessus. It does not really do anything on it's own to secure the Android OS. As far as securing you device, the answer is fairly simple and is the same with anything:
1) Authentication: Secure the lockscreen with at least a PIN or pattern (I recommend a password). Face Unlock is a joke and the basic lockscreen is by no means secure...
2) Install an anti-virus app. I personally use BitDefender, because it has a full suite of options, including GPS tracking and remote wipe.
3) Optionally, use a firewall or manually configure iptables, if you know how.
4) Don't install anything that you are not sure what it does or have any questions as to it's safety.
5) Be aware of exactly what is on your device... all software, scripts, etc.
6) Physical Access == Pwned. If a malicious party has physical access to your device, all bets are off.
As far as security goes, common sense goes a long way.
I just use Avast! both on my laptop and on my phone, it works great!
There's a list of text commands you can send your phone, it's pretty cool! Also with root users there's more options for security.
I saw another thread about hiding apps in some guy's wife's phone to track her. I'm looking for something similar with my wife, but it does not need to be hidden. Mainly to be used because I commute quite a distance and this would let her know how close I am to home (rather than having me text while driving). Similarly for her when she's travelling.
Just an app that would:-
1. Allow me to see where she is (and vice-versa)
2. Use GPS if on, otherwise fall back on net information
3. Not use SMSes (some sort of internet-based communication between phones)
I could probably hack something up using Tasker but her phone isn't rooted like mine is so the capabilities for GPS etc are a bit more limited (and time is limited, of course).
Thanks!

You can actually do this with the built in google maps application. It's called local/latitude. You can share where you are and control who sees it an when. Go ahead and look into it. Much better then downloading another app IMHO.
See here: Google search latitude android
Thanks, yeah I know about latitude features but it seems to lack a way to "ping" the other party with the equivalent of "hey, I've reached road X"
Sent from my GT-P7500 using Tapatalk HD
Use an app called Backitude from the Play Store. Latitude updates pretty arbitrarily on its own. This app allows you to control how and when it updates, and also let's another person force an update on your phone by sending an SMS. It's all Internet based except the update triggering part. You can also use the tracking features of Cerberus, another app in the Play Store.

For those looking for an ebook reader and tending to use or even buy Aldiko, the following information might be of interest.
I purchased Aldiko and with change from Note 10.1 to Note 10.1 2014, pages with graphics were suddenly displayed as blank.
Some tests showed me finally, that Aldiko is yet not able to cope with the screen resolution of the Note 10.1 2014 (if run in split screen mode, the pages are displayed properly).
Unfortunately, although Aldiko knows about the problem since October and the reason since December, nothing happend. Instead support requests are simply closed without any comment, there is no answer or reaction from the support at all.
Presently, I cannot recommend Aldiko anymore. A pity as I paid for the software.
I use mantano and moored both work well and I can have books on my so card
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
I have a subscription on the beam store where Aldiko offered the option to download purchased ebooks within the app.
That's why I purchased (and I wanted to support the developers as the app was good on my GT-N8000).

I have MoonReader, what I missed is the direct integration of eBook stores (buying and downloading).
And what I do not understand is the fact that Aldiko knows about the problem but did not fix it and the app is still available for the Note 10.1 2014 in the app store.
I like the Mantano, the interface is nice and clean and it handles notes well other than the insistence of heavily branding exported note review sheets.
The biggest issue with Mantano is it's inability to handle pdf files. If you select text from a pdf and copy to another application or activate TTS it splits w or ds wi th l o ts of sp ace s, so it renders TTS and copy functions as useless. I wrote to Mantano as at £6.69 it's the most expensive single app I've bought, I had the following response:
" Thank you for your email. Yes we are aware of the issue that you report. It is caused by the software component (from Adobe) that we are using to parse the PDF. We are investigating fixes but we currently have nothing really satisfying. We don't let it be, we'll try to fix but it might take longer than we'd like..."
This is unacceptable as far as I'm concerned for a paid app, ezPDF can cope well with pdfs, but the interface is the equivalent of an ageing digital turd.

Thanks for the hint... now I just need to get the part working after login (I am always sent to the web site instead of showing the content of the private section inside the app).
As Aldiko still just closes all support requests without answering, I contacted Google for a refund. And I got the refund.
So, as a result people should clearly thing before buying Aldiko with regard to the support policy and the behaviour in fixing bugs.
I like iReader Pro, has no problems with everything I throw at it (epub, prc, mob), works well.
It is free on the p[lay store and has no ads that I've seen. Liked it from Gingerbread over Aldiko...
Give it a shot... Price is right...
I used to use Moon reader, but now I tend to just upload my drm free books to google play and use the play book reader. It syncs, it reads to you (with ivona voice amy, it's tolerable) and it stays in your cloud library. And it has the smoothest 3d page turn animation. I usually end up buying a Kindle ebook, use calibre plug in to dedrm in windows then convert to epub then either upload to google play on the pc, or upload it later when accessing my calibre library with the calibre companion app.
