hey guys. I'm planning to install a custom ROM on my galaxy ace but I was wonderning if I could restore my device to the stock ROM using the CWM backup that I made earlier.
thanks in advance

if the backup is of after install of stock rom and CWm....just do a factory reset, cache wipe,,dalvik wipe...
go to backup and restore ,,,and restore the backup...good luck
Unless of course yr using a rom like cyanagen or any other that uses ext4 filesystem. Then you'll have to flash via odin. Or you'll get a bootloop. Won't say how its done as there are already loads of threads on how to do this.

i was planning to install the Myth ROM on my Ace. if i ever wanted to get back to the stock rom...can i restore the CWM backup i have made or do i have to use odin?
Sent from my GT-S5830
That depends.. is The Myth rfs based or ext4 based..? If its rfs you can just restore your backup but if its ext4 (like cyanogen based roms and so) you have to flash original FW through odin first.

ohk....thnx guys

If I create a full backup from the recovery menu, and then install cyanogen, will I be able to return back to the stock rom using the backup?

I would recomend getting hold of a stock rom for your phone and flashing through Odin
Where can I get the samsung galaxy s2 2.3.3 official stock rom?

You can get all firmwares from here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
And yes you will loose all your installed apps
Thanks... Does these firmwires include apps from samsung?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Yes when you apply the original firmware the phone goes back to the way it was when you first bought it with all Samsung apps.
Thanks alot, am downloading the stock JPKG5 firmwire and kernal now.
One last question, what is the purpose of creating a backup from the recovery menu?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I personally use it to back up custom roms i like so when i try new ones that get released and i have problems with them i can always go back to the last rom i used which was stable
Ok, can't it be used to restore the stock rom back from cyanogen?

Its to backup a rom as simple as that .
original rom no cannot back that up as it does not have cwm recovery .
You can restore a good working rom in a very short time instead of a clean install .
Its rom settings and apps at the point of backup .

Try installing Titanium Backup
If you want to backup everything do a nandroid backup before flashing a new rom so you can revert back. Use titanium backup to restore your apps after flashing a new rom. Do not restore any system data (any entry in red) after flashing a new rom and if you run into problems with a particular app after restoring uninstall the app and try restoring just the app again (without data).
Before flashing you should, of course, know how to Odin back to stock just in case.
Thanks.... Pls tell me the procedure for nandroid backup and odin restoration...

hi, i have a noob question, i dont know so much about repartitioning and other things, my question is, when upgrading a rom it does at normal procces (wipe data and install zip) . im taljking about for example ,i'm now in shostock 3 , it is android 4.1 and if i would back to cm9 , could i do that?. i have a nandroid backup of cm9, can i just restore this backup and i wont have problems without matter the rom i'm coming?, sorry for my english and thanks for the understanding.:good:
I'm not familiar with CM9, but the only issue would be if the ClockworkMod Recovery in the SHOstock3 kernel is compatible with the backup made with thebackup made with CM9. I'm thinking it might not be because the Jebo kernel in SHOstock3 backs up a pre-load partition.
Do You think then that is better flash again cm9 instead of the backup?

Flashing from a custom ROM usually does no harm. Provided you flash it properly with proper data clearance. And in some cases you have to flash the stock rom before you can continue to flash the new ROM. If you have not taken a backup of your stock ROM, you can download your stock ROM from your device forom.

Most of the times you can flash like this when you want a new rom. Delete /cache /data /system (you can also wipe /dalvik cache from your recovery then flash the zip file and google apps and what ever you want to flash from recovery. Hope it helps. Good luck!
It doesn't matter if you're a custom ROM. You can download a new custom ROM and go to the recovery and do the 3 wipes (factory reset, cache partition, dalvik cache) and just install. Make sure you make a nandroid backup before wiping and doing anything!
Is it must to be on stock rom when developer of custom rom says " be on stock rom is advisable"...

Nope. I never do that! But be sure to clear all data and so on. It is completely fine if you are on a stock based ROM.
