[Q] New Folio User - Need Help Installing ROM - Folio 100 General

I have just bought a refurb Folio 100, and need some help in installing ROMs. the only experience i have had with android is from my HD2, Desire and Galaxy Europa, so I don't know if the folio works in the same way.
Usually, you do some kind of flash to get a recovery partition installed (I have used Clockwork mod in the past) then from that you can install the ROM from an SD card.
My main question is how do you get the recovery partition installed onto the folio? I have seen all kinds of different methods so I want to make sure I am getting it right!

You must use fastboot

It is recommended to use fastboot, since it is less likely to cause issues or conflicts.
The alternative is to place the recovery as update.zip in the root folder of your sd card, boot into Toshiba recovery and apply update.zip ;-)

how do i go about using fastboot? i know how to enter fastboot, but i dont know where to go from there

never mind, i worked it out for my self

[Q] recovery mod

Hey guys,
I am doing this rom flash for a mate of mine.
I am trying to flash the tastyginger rom, but i am having some real difficulties while flashing the rom.
He has a dutch htc hero from hi. He has the latest rom according to the update utility thingy. it is the 2.1-update1 version. i believe i've read something about nand locks, and i think his phone has exactly that. the first step to flash a new rom is to root the phone. Rooting the phone works, gives no errors.
But when i try to flash the recovery image, it says it cant find the flash_image file.
it is should be located in the system folder on the phone but it isn't. i've tried to install it with android sdk, but the thing just is really acting weird. htc sync isn't working with the phone. it says there isn't a phone in the usb.
Now to make it clear, can somebody give me a clear tutorial on how to flash the thing correctly? I've done this before on my hd2. i've flashed the cyanogen 2.6 rom to my phone.
have you tried rom manager to flash rom its the easiest way i know. the way i rooted was with universal androot apk then installed rom manager clicked on flash clockworkmod recovery then went to install rom from sd card in rom manager scrolled down to the rom i wanted to flash choice it and pressed ok i then select backup existing rom and wipe data and cache and pressed ok then it will ask reboot and install and press ok and let it do its thing then wait untill it reboots and it should of installed rom which you wait to boot should have a custom splash screen that comes up and wait until your prompted to input details and such. hope this helps.
hey, thanks for the advice.
i let him try this method, but when he chose the htc hero gsm to install the cwm, the app refused to install it and gave this error message:An error occured while attempting to run privileged commands.
I forget to mention that the method you posted, that we already tried it.
But thanks for the effort!
pretty certain this is the tut. i used, i also had to use the gold card method -.-;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
rom manager has been down lately everyone has had trouble flashing clockwork recovery, but ra recovery second from bottom is a secondary choice however other features of rom manager might not work if you use this you will have to boot into recovery manually.you also need super user to use this as well.
http://zenthought.org/content/project/flashrec
Use this apk, i have always used this method!
Download clockwork or ra recovery rename it to recovery.img and copy to sdcard
Backup recovery with flashrec
then type sdcard/recovery.img
flash recovery and done!
I've done the recovery succesfully at the guys phone. It works bloody well. Thanks dudes! You can lock it up if you want to.

Want to install Vegan Ginerbread rc-1 rom after NV flash please help.

Son after first installing vegan 5.1 with no problems I tried to install gingerbread edition of vegan rc-1 and could not get past the boot screen. I was not sure how to NVflash but thanks to everyone here!!! Big Thanks!!! I was able to restore the tab and now it is running 1.1-3588.
Now I want to install vegan GE RC1 and was told I need to nvflash because it is a problem with partitioning. So if I go to the instructions on how to install it it says just like any other rom.
I just want to confirm because it seems counter intuitive to me.
I install ClockWork Mod .8 and then partition the tab at 2 and 0. Then copy the update file and install that like I would any other rom through clockwork?
Since I had already had the tab running vegan it was before I flashed it with GE RC1 partitioned in the same way. So why would I need to re-partition or do I simply install the mod and then re-partition??
I am a little confused can someone help me from this step.
I just do not want to be where I was at before.
Thanks again,
Robert
If you really nvflashed You should have no problem flashing to vegan ginger
Just install it as any other Tom's and remember after first reboot turn it off and reboot again

My question is do I install Clockwork mod and partition first and then install vegan or install vegan and then install clock work afterwards?>
Thanks for the help in advance!!
I got the rebooting part but I just want to be sure about cwm first and then install the vegan GE.
Rob
Just start over which means start by instally cwm 08, then do the whole flashing process, repartition, clear data, cache, delvik. Then install the vegan zip

What's 'the whole flashing process'?? I keep reding everywhere that I need to run NVFlash on my unit before I can run any Gingerbread based roms, however no one says what exactly I'm supposed to be do with nvflash. What am I flashing with it? Do I need to run a command line on the unit to prep the memory? Do I need to push a different rom image, like the nvflash_gtablet_2010110500.zip? Where can I find this answer?
I can install any of the stock roms without issue but it won't boot with any of the gingerbread based ones and I'm stuck.
The answer lies with this NVFLASH that needs to be done but I don't know what to flash. I'm sure it's easy enough once I figure out where to look.
Can anyone point me the right direction?

Read the nvflash thread in development. The partitioning nvflash does to the internal file partition structure. On some tabs there are 2 reversed partitions which wont allow gb roms to boot. The partitioning done by clockwork is to the internal sdcard. 2Gb for the system and 14Gb for user files.

Ahh finally! Someone gives me a strait answer! lol Now if I may ask another to clarify...
My unit is brand new, no updates, no hacks, original out of the box image.
Should I still run the NVFLASH utility to put on the nvflash_gtablet_2010110500.zip image, then try to put the Gingerbread rom on using CWR?
-maj
**UPDATE**
OK here's what I did this time on a brand new, out of box unit:
Removed unit from box and powered on.
Installed CWR using SD method.
Booted to CWR and cleared all caches
Installed G-Harmony-G 2.3.3 rom and rebooted.
Machine powers on to the Viewsonic screen and that's it. So what am I missing here?
I realize ths seems lame but I appear to be missing something in this process.
I assume I have to put the original image back on so should I use the NVFLASH image now, then the above process?
-Maj
If it wont boot gingerbread roms then you will have to nvflash. If you dont care about gingerbread then dont nvflash
nv flash
after you nv flash to stock go to settings security and factory reset! then install clockworkmod through the factory recovery. you do this by simply downloading clockwork .8 extract to a micro sd card u should have 2 files recovery and update! insert the sd into the gtab power up by hold ing volume down and power together for a few seconds and that should flash clockwork. after done boot into recovery again the same way but this time the tab will boot cwm wipe data cache format boot, system, data, cache or download caulkins format all and flash! then install your favorite rom !

Need help ATRIX 4G. Trying to create a nandroid backup

Hello all I am new to this whole rooting process... I am not afraid to admit it as we all were once new at what we are doing at some point. I need help creating a nandroid back up on my atrix. O have successfully unlocked the boot loader and rooted my phone. I performed a backup using cwm through the boot screen and then I proceeded to wipe all my data and install a new rom when to my surprise it got stuck on the boot load screen for 30minites before I pulled the battery and tried restoring to my backup that I made with cwm.. it appears that the backup only successfully installed the boatload.img file and none of the other. Img files therefore once rebooted my phone would stay stuck at the boatload screen... I finally wiped everything and found a gingerbread 2.3.4 version 4.5 beta and copied it to my external sd card and installed it through cwm choosing the zip file to install and rebooting. Now I am back up and running but I do obviously not know how to make a nandroid backup so if I decide to tinker around with my phone again I will not have the same problem as before. Any help would be greatly appreciated... I am sorry this is so long bit if someone helps me I would rather they know the whole story then just portions of it. Thanks everyone who reads this and replies!!!

Looked into rom racer's forum page still confused
Hello again, I have looked into the forum for "romracer" and there is still quite a bit of confusion on my side (noob). I am already nervous about flashing things to my phone since my last stuck in boot loading screen. My current version of cwm is whatever came with option number 2 on the automatic unlock file that unlocked my bootloader and also provided root access. I believe it is called "Tenfar CWM". I want to be able to make a successful nandroid backup and I am understanding that I need to flash the latest version of CWM for atrix. I am confused about how I go about flashing that onto my phone safely. I am sorry I am such a noob, but I want to understand how to get the latest version of CWM for atrix onto my phone... There are so many links to different things on the developer for CWM forum page that my mind is spinning out of control. Any help on where to download all the necessary files to perform this flash and how to flash my phone with the latest version of CWM for atrix 4G would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for being understanding and helping me through this process that seems overwhelming for a noob like me.
Thanks,

1) Go to /system/etc. and delete "install-recovery.sh". This can be done with Root Explorer, available from the market. If it's not there, then don't worry about it.
2) Download which every color of Rom Racer's CWM you want to your pc (same folder as fastboot files).
3) Boot into fastboot mode and enter fastboot mode.
4) Connect phone to pc, and open command prompt from fastboot folder (shift + right click -> open command window here).
5) Enter fastboot commands from Rom Racer's OP.
6) Enter "fastboot reboot" to reboot phone.
7) Boot into recovery and make sure it worked
*If you still see Tenfar's recovery app on your phone, delete it like you do any other app.
OR
1) Delete Tenfar's Recovery app.
2) Go to /system/etc. and delete "install-recovery.sh". This can be done with Root Explorer, available from the market. If it's not there, then don't worry about it.
3) Download ROM Manager from the market (free)
4) Install the CWM Recovery for the Atrix via the ROM Manager App.
5) Use this CWM Recovery
or proceed to install ROM Racer's CWM Recovery...
6) Download ROM Racer's CWM and put it on your internal SD card (/sd-card).
7) Open ROM Manger App
8) Select install ROM from .zip (or something like that - one of the main options).
9) Select the .zip you put there, an uncheck the options (no need to wipe anything).
10) Phone will reboot, install the .zip, and reboot again.
11) Should have ROM Racer's version on the phone now, and be able to enter recovery via the ROM Manager App.
Thank you so much... I will try that once I have some time to dedicate strictly to this...

[Q] Boot loop in recovery please help

I have CWM 5.8.2.0 on my prime. I tried flashing the Energy rom (thread here)from a CM rom. CWM said that the rom flashed successfully but since that reboot, the prime only boots into CWM. I have tried flashing to other roms and even restoring to a backup I made before the flash to the Energy rom, but nothing has helped.
I have read many threads on possible ways to resolve the bootloop, but my computer is not recognizing the prime while it is in CWM and CWM 5.8.2.0 does not support external memory, so I cannot throw any more files on the device.
Please help me move some files onto my prime.
In my kindest words, read here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25234629 Twrp is what we use...
Breast regards.... my God, Android 4.2 Keyboard..... lol
Inserted 20ยข for the first three minutes
I would love to flash TWRP but I cannot get any files on my prime as I stated in the OP. The version of CWM I have does not support the external memory and the device is not recognized in adb. adb is set up correctly because it works with my phone and normally with my prime. I am looking for solutions as to how to move on from where I am.

[Q] help, i screwed up!

hi all,
Ive been looking for a fix for a straight 10 hours now and i just cant seem to find it.
Ive tried installing a custom rom on my rooted Samsung galaxy s3 mini (i believe its the i8190)
i installed CWM recovery and tried installing the custom rom through there and when that not succeeded i tried it through the CWM recovery boot thing. after messing with it i found myself locked in the CWM recovery boot cause everytime i reboot my phone it instantly goes to the CWM recovery. i found out thats due to not having a rom (not even the stock). so now i have to find a custom rom (wich i allready got) and put that on the phone. this is where im stuck. i dont have an external sd card in this phone and i just cant seem to mount the internal sd card so i can access it through my computer so i can put the files in there.
Im sorry if i placed this in the wrong section, im new to this forum. i just need some professional help because i obviously have no clue wth im doing. also sorry for any misunderstandings or stupid questions. english is not my native language.
thanks in advance !
sorry for second post, dont know where to get an answer nd im desperate
Search Custom Recovery, Root, ROM etc.. with your device name/model. hope, you'll find some solution/ideas about your problem.
Here's a LINK: Samsung Galaxy S III Mini (Link for your device main category.)
You need to set up adb. adb should work while in recovery. You would use that and push the file to your internal storage. For example:
adb push rom.zip /sdcard/
Assuming you have the rom zip in the adb folder or have set adb to work system wide.
