Do Not Post Something like this Again - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

From the Moderators:
Do Not Post Something like this Again Do not clutter up the forum with drivel like this......... thanks
i went to best buy today to exchange for white note.it took me two hours just to exchange because old people buying iphones.they really dont even need a iphone.they need old flip phones.three people front of me bought iphone 4 or 4s.i couldnt tell the diffrenece.it took atleast 45 min to teach them how to use it.
i use to wonder why apple leads in iphone sales.now i know its because of dumb people just want to own a iphone.just to be hippie again.i was so angry waiting for 2 hours just to exchange and watching stupid people using iphone.

Are you serious? People buy iPhones because they are simple and do what people need them to do. Old people buy iPhones because they are simple. Other people buy iPhones because they are SIMPLE.
Apple leads in smartphone sales BECAUSE THE IPHONE IS SIMPLE TO USE. I love my Galaxy Note but I'm not about to try and say that it's easier to use for a NORMAL PERSON.
And if you ask me, you're not too bright either from the looks of your spelling and grammar.

prob. smarter then u.i dont have time to write **** here.lots of other stuff to do instead playing ps3 or something

I can't figure out how you made it up to 82 post without either being banned or at least warned.

As much as I hate Apple and their products I gotta agree. Simplicity is the key ingredient to Apple's success. A counterpoint to this is the fact the simplicity is what you make of it. I promise 5 years from now Android will become the new 'simple' and iProducts will become the new flip-phone.
Think of computers 10 years ago. Out of every 10 people, theres was one that would get called up to hook up a printer or set up a keyboard. That same ratio is now 1 out of 2, because people are educated in the matter.
Oh, and less flame, more actual content.

ah....
When people used to ask me android or iphone i used to say android, obviously. but i got tired of explaining why its better and you know what, for a guy whos not tech savy at all, an iphone will be much eisier to use. i think it would be much better for them to learn how to use android becasue it can do so much more but hey... i dont make any money of more android sales.
i did get my father to make the switch from ios to android, (i sold his 3gs on craigslist for $350, which paid for galaxy s2, accessories, batteries etc. but thats only because i want the best for my father. if others want to be stuck, locked into that riged ios.... be my guest.
sorry for rambling... but in short, yeah ios is so much simpler, you cant say oh i dont like this so ill change it. thats the beauty of it. Severely dumbed down. but thats what alot of people want...

[Q] OMG some people are just stupid.

I've come across some people that when they see my phone, they're like is that an iPhone and im like no, its a Vibrant. It happened more than twice and i find it annoying how people can mistake the Vibrant for an iphone.
So question is Has it happened to you and do you find it annoying?
No one under the age of 40 mistakes my Vibrant for an iPhone. Everyone I know, everyone I go to school with it, etc. etc. knows it's a Galaxy S.
The only time someone ever mistook it for something else was when my neighbor asked me if it was a Captivate.

Well, Samsung did mirror the iphones physical appearance with this particular device......and since the iphone is marketed 100x more than the Vibrant, which is pretty much outdated anyway, what do you expect people to think if theyve never owned a vibrant?
WITH THAT SAID, it is quite annoying
Once I got "Is that Samsung's iPhone?" I couldn't quite fault them, they knew what it was even though it was a fairly insulting way to put it. The best, though, was going through a checkout while my 4 year old played Angry Birds. The clerk got jealous - "Is that that new Samsung???!" Asked a bunch of questions. Clearly knew it was Android, some basic specs, though she'd never touched any sort of smart phone before. Rare example of an educated (non techy) consumer.

well like the guy above me said... the vibrant is a mirror image of the iPhone 3g and 3gs ,just slightly bigger.
as far as ppl mistakingly my vibrant as an iphone,it doesnt annoy me as much as people throwing the DROID name out and about.... droid this, droid that, is that a droid phone, etc.
DROID is nothing but a BRAND NAME used by Verizon for SELECTED android handsets.
Yeah, the SGS line (and Vibrant in particular) heavily ape the old iPhone designs, even down to the fake-chrome bezel.
I'd certainly forgive somebody who had never used the devices for mistaking one for the other.
Yea I can't believe the stupidity involved in mistaking my phone for an iPhone. Don't people know anything? Aaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!! I have flashcards with pictures of phones on one side and the name on the other. I regularly quiz myself. The last thing I want to do is look like a complete idiot OMG

The "Droid" thing is probably more annoying than someone mistaking it for an iphone. But the best is:
Dumbass: "Is that an iPhone?"
Me: "No actually it....."
Dumbass: "Ohhh its a Droid."
Me: "No its a Galaxy S, but Android is the operating system, just like the Droid"
Dumbass: "Oh ok, so then you have Verizon?"
Me: **punches dumbass in face**
I wouldn't call people stupid for mistaking a phone that looks similar. I'll admit, I don't know much about cars. Doesn't make me stupid that I don't know all car models and may have mistaken some similar models for another one.
Take it as an opportunity to inform people about Android and the Vibrant. I tell people that looks like an iPhone but it's so much better. Then I show them examples (or course I wouldn't do this in front of strangers when I don't feel safe).

To be perfectly honest, I don't think comparing the Vibrant to the iPhone is an insult. The iPhone is a top notch smartphone by consumer standards and if someone thinks my phone is as cool as an iPhone then I'll suck it up and take that with stride.

Blame Samsung, from a distance it looks exactly like an iphone. The chrome bezel doesn't help. But im probably the only user to blindly pick up my phone upside down. Lol

Yes, I definitely agree with the phone being mistaken for an iphone. Even the software (touch wiz) almost looks like an iphone. People really think its an iphone. When I tell them what it is you can see naturally that they think the phone is a knockoff iphone. We should not get mad. We knew this before we bought/traded/found/stole (however you happen to own the phone) the Vibrant.

Walt Mossberg tests the Samsung Galaxy Note. says it's like talking into toast.

Those two people sitting next to each other are VERY annoying.

Seriously, normal people buy a phone for its features. If you care what you look like holding the phone then you have larger psychological issues you need to work on.

Hahaha I think the exact same thing when people complain about how they look with it by their head. I can't believe someone would care about that I personally don't think I'd honestly take that into consideration when making a purchase for a phone especially when the size gives it so many advantages.
Walt also smashed the Dell Streak in the same manner. Just remember he is from a time when microwaves and televisions were not a standard home accessory. Really an iPhone would seem great to someone who is just getting acclimated to technology.
Honestly, I don't think it's totally ridiculous to be concerned about how one looks talking on a phone. It's no different from caring how you dress or what accessories you wear--and make no mistake, a phone is an accessory just as much as a bracelet or necklace. It's not a big deal to me personally, but I do think I'd be a bit self-conscious if I were walking down the street and talking on my Note.
From my perspective, people on both sides are blowing the thing out of proportion. Like so many other things, it's just a matter of personal preference.

And I completely understand your point and respect it I agree it comes down to the person but as for myself I really don't care what other people think. People where I live have to "have" the iPhone because it the "cool" phone to have and I expect to catch crap because of the notes size but personally I know that the phone will be very productive for myself as I have large hands making it very frustrating to use an iphone. But again back to personal preference all to their own I just personally will not conform to society and do as I please and what makes me happy and not care what some random person thinks. Personally I find things much easier that way.

Who ever said thoughtful discourse was dead?
You're kidding yourself if you think that people around you won't see you using your phone and make judgments based on it and its appearance. You don't have to care about those judgments, but they're happening either way, just as people form opinions based on what you're wearing. If nobody cared about how phones look, there wouldn't be a white Note or a purple RAZR, and I'm willing to bet there would also be fewer iPhones than there are now.
I'm not advocating choosing a phone based on its appearance alone, and I'm here because I preordered a Note for myself. Obviously a phone does a lot more than a jacket or a necklace and should be given commensurately more consideration. That doesn't mean everyone needs to shut their eyes, plug their ears, and shriek when presented with opinions that don't coincide with their own.
Yeah I'm going to feel self conscious when using it too, but really, who talks on their phone anymore anyway? If in my car, BT, if on my desk, spkr.
I don't get that many calls anyway.
I can't wait to gaze into that huge screen!

Zach at BGR has issues

This is seriously the most bias review I have ever seen. He basically hates the phone because of the size and claims that it's not for anyone except Basketball players. Really?
Two local AT&T stores are currently sold out on this device. It's clearly selling. Zach should probably give up writing reviews and stick to opinion pieces.

Careful with the short man syndrome stuff... I got some small hands, am a short man, and would not give up the Note for anything! Why would I? I can use a tablet with any problems, I should definitely be able to use the Galaxy Note...
you know i honestly wonder if apple pays for sites like that.
Oh I dunno...he did stick with that stupid "they'll laugh at you". And if you're a fanatic of wanting to easily do things with just one hand, maybe the Note isn't for you. But almost the entire review was him praising the Note. I think the only other thing he was critical of was he wished they'd made the screen more smudge proof like on the S2.
But he did say if you wanted a large phone that would attract attention or a small tab, then this was def the phone for you. So I'm not exactly how biased against the phone he's being like Geller or whatever his name is.
I will say that this phone does indeed attract attention. My high school and middle school students were freaked out when they saw it on Mon and Tues. And the fellow teachers all wanted to play with it. I had it at the gym and a lot of people that saw it came up and asked what it was. A large percentage of them really liked it and were thinking about getting one because of the large screen to browse the web, play games, and work with files, etc.
I think not being able to text neatly with one hand is well worth all the benefits of this phone.

I meant no offense..
I'm believe the fact that I can't do a lot of things one handed easily as a bonus now. More times then not it simply stops me from using my phone when I really shouldn't.
Unfortunately, we are still living in an Apple world. It seems like more and more people are switching, and realizing that they've been duped into having a company tell them what's best for them. BGR is still under that company's spell.
This review wasn't nearly as bad as Johnathon's, but complaining about the size of smart phones nowadays is getting ridiculous. I could understand if it was an enormous brick, but it's more thin than the iP4.
Basically at this point, it does help to make a list of websites that are Apple-infested...and to avoid them completely. Obviously each click to their sites benefits them..so yeah.
I didn't bother opening the article...but seems like this other BGR guy also said no ones gonna buy the Note.
Based on 3 nearby at&t stores that I stopped by, they're currently sold out. When I asked them what kinds of people bought it, they said surprisingly iPhone people made the switch cuz they wanted the extra screen estate that's offered.
It really was a pretty fair review all the way up to the "size" paragraph. It will be hilarious looking back at the biased "journalism" of BGR and other iphanboi sites when the Note is finally recognized as a truly trendsetting device in about a year.

Then I guess you missed his comments on how he got a fulls day use out of one battery charge and how gorgeous the screen was and how fast it was and how nice the hardware looked? He actually listed a lot of good things about the Note.
And I don't see where he actually made fun of a person using the phone. He said it would attract attention and that it was a phone made for a basketball player but he never insulted anyone that would buy the phone. I think he even said if you shrunk it down about 20%, so that would drop it back down to around the 4.3/4.5" mark. So he's not exactly against phones larger than the iPhone.

From his original "review" and his dumb comments on his twitter account, I honestly think he just threw in a couple of positives after taking so much heat for his original assessment so that he could look less biased. Just my opinion/theory.

The Galaxy Note exudes a coolness factor/Samsung did an awesome job advertising this

Almost every instance on using this phone in public, people either stop and stare or they ask questions. It isn't like I'm trying to bring attention to myself but everyone is always asking if that is the new note. I leave it on my desk at work and whenever people come into my office, I'm asked about it and they want to doodle with the stylus. I hope this interest turns into more sales so that Samsung is prompted to come out with more phones in this line in the future. I simply refuse to go to any other phone now.
If you watched any basketball this weekend, the commercials were constant. They certainly seem to expect good sales:

Seems as if you either walk around waving this phone in the air or you are doing something to draw attention to yourself.

Your comment seems quite underage. Just because some people have strangers asking them about devices and you don't doesn't mean they are lying or looking for attention.
Really only a few devices in the recent past, such as the Droid RAZR, have received as much media attention and advertising as the Note, so all of your latest tablets and phones have likely not drawn the same attention from the general public. Therefore you cannot compare them to the Note.
I do not show off my phones, I use them. With my Captivate, I received no comments from strangers. With my Infuse, I had a couple, but only from people familiar with Android that were curious what brand and model it was. With the Note, same use and everything, I have received more comments and attention than the whole time I had both of my previous phone, in just two weeks. Dude in line at Chipotle, girl employee at Home Depot, several people I have never talked to in my classes here at college. This phone is turning heads whether you are looking for attention or not, so don't be a downer because nobody finds you approachable.

I have a gold metallic case on it so most of the time it looks like I am carrying a huge gold bar. Funny the looks I get.
I get asked about it all the time. I'll just be sitting on the train or at the bar or something and I guarantee someone will ask about it.

It's definitely not the advertising. It's the fact that it's a larger phone. I used a Dell Streak for 1.5 years and got the same type of comments about it.

Not worth the time to comment but I will anyway. I use my phone for business, not playing games. I don't "play" with it while waiting in a food line, nor do I walk around with it like it is a trophy. Many here do. That is obvious. As far as being "approachable", I am not looking for strangers to come up to me and ask about my phone, and I certainly don't want them "touching" it. The reason I even responded to this post was because the OP stated that the Note exuded a "coolness' factor. That certainly tells me how old he or she is.
We all grow up someday. Some of us a bit later I guess.
Give it time.

I also use my phone for business, not playing games. The only time games get played on my Note is when I let one of my grandchildren use it to keep them occupied. Nor do I walk around with it like it is a trophy as you put it. That being said, I still think it has a 'coolness' factor and yes, I have been asked about it in public. I spend a great deal of time on the phone when out - isn't that kind of the point to have a cell? If I didn't want to talk on the phone outside the office, I wouldn't carry it. I really do not mind people asking about it.
phone is awesome and everyone knows it.

You sure know how to wash down a party. I am a network admin for a defense contractor, so it is needed for work, and I do not just go waving it around looking for attention. If I want attention, I talk to my wife.
Glad your so boring.

Story#1 (2 weeks ago)
I attended my wife's induction into the honor society for her university yesterday afternoon. There were 16 inductees and we all socialized a bit before the ceremony began. I was to pin my wife so I quickly made nice with the couple that sat next to us and asked if they would mind tag teaming on getting pics of the pinning action. All was set. If you could have seen the look on the face of the guy (and others around us). When I pulled out my Note... He said "what is that!?!? ". Of course, I took the opportunity to demonstrate the wonders of the Note to him as his amazement grew. After he got a chance to handle it and snap a few pics of us during our part of the ceremony he was hooked. His wife looked at me and said "I guess he's found a new toy now.. I can see it in his eyes".. I just laughed and went about my business. He had an iPhone.
Story#2 (last week)
So I venture into my local Best Buy to return an item. As I am standing at the return counter waiting for the guy to process my return, I am typing away in facebook and fully engaged on my Note. The young girl behind the counter next to him said "Wow. Is that the Note? I want to get one so badly. My mom won't let me but I am going to figure out a way to get one. I love that phone." I then let her hold it because she was so starstruck with it.. Really... I laughed inside.

DB gf and her stupid iPhone...

OK, so I have never felt the need to make a pointless thread till now...
I was out at the bar tonight, surrounded by iPhone people....going on and on about how they had one problem or another with whatever random android they had and how suddenly their iPhone solved everything.... And they were saying "oh, our phone is so much faster than yours"
So i made them all download linpack and blew each of them away by double...
Perhaps it doesn't mean much, but it shut them up

I hate it tho how trying to get an i phone user to understand something simple like a widget. I explain at least we get home screens they dont understand coz all they get is an application drawer!
I actually talked a female colleague around to getting an android phone like mine (s2) she was set to get an iphone but she doesn't regret it one bit! Plus out of 15 ppl in our company 3 of us have android- one desire and 2 s2's! The rest are apple fan boys! Lol
Android all the way!!

Why so many iPhones?
Apple is the king of product placement.
Watch any movie, soap etc. Apples apples apples rotten apples everywhere.
Yay, a grid of icons on top of icons! The solution to all of life's mobile phone problems. Oh, and a robotic sounding woman you can have "conversations" with.
The reason why Apple is so successful is because the notion of "choice" is too much for the average person to handle. I understand the lack of common sense and willingness to do a little legwork when purchasing things that most of society has, but having ONE phone and ONE computer is preferable to anyone in the entertainment business than shuffling through the hundreds of Android phones. Especially since they're catering to the society I wrote about. They will know what an iPhone is. They will not know what __insert_stuipd_android_device_name_OEMs_who_don't_understand_how_the_world_works_come_up_with is.

Better to have Iphones than the stupid symbian Nokia phones............
My town is surrounded by Nokia phones and some chinese/indian crap......
Though the problem is that here a basic phone without camera and some basic features costs at 2000-3000 rupees (40$-60$) while the evo 3d was around 49$(contract) in USA and is around 700$ (without contract) in india , I would have purchased so many phones at this cost if that contract thingy would have been available here...

No you wouldn't because they are ,like you said, contracts . That means you can only get a device at that price once every two years once the contract ends.
The reason so many more people appear to have iphones is Apple advertises everywhere. People want a brand name they can trust and they all love their ipods for music, so why not get an iPhone. Then the old yoga moms who bought it rave about their new smartphone to all their clueless friends, who tell even more people, until apple phones are owned by every clueless person in the US. Then Apple decides it's time to implement project X, a top secret project that uses siri to take over its users like a parasite and TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!! Well sort of anyway...
Yeah, idk, I just enjoyed it because they all had to admit my 3d blew their iPhone away... And you guys are right, it is brainless... Have you ever seen two iPhones that look different? Nope, they are all set up to be huge app drawers... Idk, I like having a bookmark and a calendar widget.... I like being able to make it my own and not just follow suit....

How incredibly humble of you
Apple has carved an image for itself, and it does it's job very well, and people from all walks of life has iPhones, from trashy people, to incredible smart. Some people just don't care about customisation and are more interested in a complete solution with little fuss. This does not make them brainless.
the main reason i keep seeing these lil girls get iphone is because its a status symbol , ppl think if you have an iphone ur cool or going to get more *****, that phone is plain out boring when its up against a high end android.

How DARE you display objectivity, blasphemer! The iPhone is for the feeble minded and Android for the intellectual elite.
I think people chose iphone forbthe same reason i dont root my phone. Not everyone has hours a day to waste altering these phones or can afford for something to stop working. People say rooting your phone makes it better and faster. How much faster can it get seriously? I mean my epic touch is fully stock with 1000 songs and plenty of pics and videos and sometimes it seems like it selects what i want before i even swipe it. Every other thread on xda seems to ke oh i flashed this rom and my camera stopped working my wifi stopped working my voicemail stopped working im not getting my notifications stuck on htc screen or whatever else can go wrong. Im only 26 but i have a gf and a 1 year old son. Some people cant afford to have dumb **** like that go wrong. I need everything on my phone working all the time. Im not worried about the latest theme and if i was that worried about ics id go by a galaxy nexus.

Cool story? Trust me depending in the Roms the phone actually shows significant performance over the stock . You don't actually spend hours a day switching. Or whatever. Just download follow simple steps and go.
Most times the rom is perfectly working for users. Just some people don't read the change logs on what works or not.
And I have-not seen that many oh my wifi or whatever is not working threads.
Unless you take advantage of rooting you probably arnt the one to talk about these customization steps, goes for the iPhone users alike.

Alright so after reading this thread which has a slight undertone of hate both ways, here is what I've gathered....
iPhone: For people who want things done for them... They don't want to worry about every detail (big or small) of their phone, don't mind little customization, and follow a 'trend' (if you will). At the same time, everything is easier to use, because it is less complicated and everything is right there. The phone that is already 'set-up'.
Exclude the whole concept of Jailbreaking your iPhone. If you jailbreak it, you are basically making it an Android anyways -_-. Making it Open-source so you can add MODs from Cydia to it for a little more customization and control. Sounds like browsing XDA looking for new things for your phone, hm.
Android: Contrary to the iPhone... For people who want to take control of their phone. In every aspect. Having a phone that really reflects you and shows your personality. Something you can tinker with for endless hours ALWAYS finding something new. You don't mind the 'kinks' of rooting and ROMs, because you like the need to fiddle with your phone. All around, you're more alert to everything going on in that phone of yours. The parts waiting to be perfectly put together.
Don't get me wrong. Android is fully functional. What I meant by the part thing is; everything is ready to go, but it needs a little extra to get it how you want it.
Which one is better....? I personally like Android because of all the things there are to, and the very thin boundaries (if there are any) to what you can't do. However the iPhone offers a very refined experience that isn't anything to scuff at. I do not find the iPhone faster either. There are plenty of tests to show otherwise. It wouldn't be fair to compare a low-end Android so assume I'm talking about the SGS2, Galaxy Nexus, etc. And if there is any difference in visual speed (which isn't totally reliable) it is honestly a hundredth of a second or less. Processor wise Android destroys iOS. Visual smoothness iOS at times over throws Android. Overall they're both good platforms (and I have used both for over 6 months).
Now if more iPhone users could realize that Android is just as good as iOS. Then we could finally get them to shut-up about what their pre-personalized phones can do.
Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
AOKP (Build 28)
Air Kernel (3.45)
OC 800/100 (Noop)

Chainfire 3D (Force GPU)
I'd never buy an iPhone, or Apple product, for that matter. That said, had I been one of those people who just lost the linpack challenge, I would promptly have asked you to open your web browser, or home screen and take the lag challenge, to which you would have failed miserably.
