1. Wireless Tether - Connection speed crawls. Thought the app was junk until I downloaded 2 files from certain websites at 4mbs down. Is there a setting im not using that's causing the problem? FIXED http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13653126&postcount=159
2. "USB Device not recognized" - Windows refuses to recognize my Evo 3d. Seems to be PC specific, windows 7 x64, have installed google's usb drivers.
Any help would be huge.
I am using this 1 .wifi_tether_v3_1-beta4
Chose htc evo 3d model (option)
fix option and thats it

Hi all
I am using FroydVillain 1.7.2 ROM with Flykernel 12 on my HTC Hero. Everything works fine except one issue that I came across lately. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.
I was trying to use the native USB tethering. As I understand, HTC Sync is required for this to work, so I downloaded the latest version (3.0.5511) from HTC site. When I choose USB tethering on phone, Device manager shows 'Android Phone'. Upon googling, I realized that HTC Remote NDIS Based device driver required for this feature to work. So I manually tried updating the driver and pointing to path C:\Prog Files\HTC\Driver\Vista_x86\. Windows detects the driver correctly, but gives me an error "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service" (screenshot attached). I also noticed that HTC Sync does not detect my phone. I do not get a 'Synchronize' option on my phone either. Wifi tethering works fine. Hope someone here can help me out.
Thanks in advance!
Htc sync works only with sense roms. You don't have that, so it shouldnt work

Thanks for your reply.
So does that mean I won't be able to use USB tethering??? I am not much concerned about using HTC Sync.
Thanks.

Try wifi tether, a quick google will bring up the google code webpage.
Once it is installed go into the settings,
Select the proper device profile,
check Routing Fix.
make sure wifi driver reload is checked.
Sometimes the tethering needs to be fully started, then stopped and then closed. Once you reopen it you should be good to go to connect with your laptop.

This is the exact setup I use, and it works flawlessly. Also, you may try resetting your wireless adapter on your laptop. A lot of the time that can fix limited connectivity errors.
Both of the laptops have windows 7. I just downloaded the wireless tether app from Google code and will try again when I get home tonight. Also how would I go about resetting my wireless adapter?

Alright so set up the suggested settings in the wireless tether app and it ddnt work. I reset my wireless adapter and it still ddnt work. I clicked on diagnose problem and it said that my wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP connection... I've restarted the app and tried again and reset my adapter multiple times to no avail... is there anything I can do?

So you can tether your xbox wirelessly with the wifi tether app? That means the issue is with your laptop. have you tried another wireless network to see if you can connect to that with your laptop? also have you updated the drivers on the laptop. Also you can try to disable your firewall on the laptop.
Yah everything else connects to my laptop. I even have a Verizon mifi that's works perfectly. And my phone plays nice with everything else. The only thing wrong with with my laptop is that it doesnt wanna tether. Just says what I posted 2 posts above. How would I go about removing the firewall?

On the wifi tether app, under settings, do you have router fix box checked? I believe it needs to be.

Wireless tether worked best for me
I wasnt able to get the WiFi tether working but i was able to get Wireless tether 2.0.7 using the liquid.mecha v3.2 ROM
here is the result
8.92 Mb/s Down and 6.46 Mb/s up
not bad imo

Yah its checked. I'm just gonna assume its my laptop. Does what radio you have have something to do with it? I have the 2.5 radio instead of the 3.0 with my cm7

Wireless tether is known to not play nice with some Intel wireless cards. The only sure-fire way to fix it that I've found is to set a static IP configuration based on what the phone is transmitting. It seems like the wireless card doesn't want to pick up the phone's IP address, so you have to do that manually. Tedious, but effective.
Ok. I'm not very computer savvy so how would I find out what my phones IP address or whatever and how would I manually input into my computer? I do have an Intel wireless adapter.

So just got the Evo the other day and love it! Coming from the Evo 4g its a big difference. Quick question though..
I'm at work and wanting to run the USB tether on my desktop (in a trailer and we don't have internet running in for another couple of weeks). I have all the drivers installed and the computer recognizes when I'm in mass storage mode or just charging, when when I switch to USB tether mode, my phone says "turning on" but nothing happens on the desktop in fact it disappears like its not connected.
Not sure what else to do here is there another driver that I need to install or what's going on?

I've never seemed to be able to use tethering that way on any device what I did was used WiFi tether (must be ics generic) or use a tethering app from the market all u need to do is install there client to ur computer and connect. U can download the client onto ur phone and then transfer to ur pc that's how i do it when I restore my pc so I can update my WiFi drivers

I searched around and tried to find a Bluetooth tethering for my Laptop to my Amaze like the Bluetooth DUN in my previous wm6.5 phone, but no luck. I just figured out that my windows 7 laptop could directly tether to Amaze through Bluetooth. It might not be as fast as "Wi-Fi hotspot", but saves lot of battery of Amaze.
You guys might want to use it. Here is how it works:
1. Pair the Amaze to the windows 7 laptop through Bluetooth.
2. Under "Bluetooth Devices" or "Devices and Printers" in the laptop, it will show the Amaze (there might be a exclamatory mark)
3. Right click the Amaze icon, in the popup window, select the "connect using" and then "Access point"
You laptop is now tethering to the amaze though Bluetooth.
Enjoy.

You don't need the drivers for tethering. I don't have it either.
Are people having problems with WiFi Tether for Root?
Or is there another reason why the TMO/'Stock' tether gets so much attention?

My windows 7 is asking for them. With out them my phone only connects as a media player and my laptop as speakers. But it seems to transfer data it needs the drivers. I don't have HTC sync installed do you?

Yes, I have the HTC sync installed, but still no drivers for bluetooth. that's why there is a exclamatory mark on the side of the icon. it works well for bluetooth tethering without asking for the drivers.

The wifi tethering works for me as well. but it drains the battery very fast and the phone is very hot during the wifi tethering. In addition, for the bluetooth tethering, you can fully control the connection on the laptop without even touch the phone. It also supports multiple tethering (tethering a tablet and a laptop to the phone in the same time)

I think HTC sync installs proper drivers for phone and laptop communication.

I have tried to connect with the device through USB with fastboot, adb, and just through Windows. It does not show up in the Device Manager at all.
Is this a hardware issue with the device? Seems odd as it was working fine and now it isn't and it has only been sitting on my desk as this isn't my main phone.
By the way I have tried this on 2 different Windows 8.1 computers and one Windows 7 PC.
Try removing all drivers for the phone and reinstalling them and see if it works. Also are there any other phone drivers installed for a different device you may have recently installed? They may be conflicting.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It should still show up in Device Manager regardless of drivers though. Just tested on a computer that has never had a single phone plugged into it and Device Manager still does not detect and devices.
Windows 8.1 has driver issues for the DNA. Though it should have worked fine in Windows 7. But I believe for a device to show up the drivers need to be installed.

try a different cable
The device should still show up without drivers as an unknown device. You can't really mess with the drivers for the device until it shows up. Also on a Windows 7 computer that has never been used before the computer should automatically pickup the device so you can transfer files to/from through Windows Explorer.
I have tried a different cable.
I am starting to think it's a hardware issue with the device itself.
what happens when you connect an OTG cable and a flash drive? Does the activity light on the drive activate?
I have not tried that and I do not believe I have an micro OTG cable. I will have to check when I am back at my place later.
Try installing HTC sync and update it and see if that installs ur correct drivers

Appreciate the replies. It should still detect a device plugged in without drivers/HTC Sync, but I have tried installing HTC Sync and all that anyhow. The PC's can detect other Android devices just fine(HTC One M8 & EVO 4G).

If you KNOW the cable is "good", the port may not be "GOOD". Does the cable work with another device?
The cable is definitely good(tried multiple and they work with other devices). I have been thinking it's the port in the device from the beginning, but was hoping maybe there was something else going on.
