[Q] Install CWM without ROM Manager - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to install CWM without ROM manager? I get a download error when trying to flash CWM via ROM manager app.
Is there a way I can download it and flash either via ODIN or stock recovery.
Please let me know.
Currently I have recover 2e because of being on version 2.1, baseband: T959UVJFD, ECLAIR.
Any and all suggestions are appreciated! Thanks.

Please read newb guide as your answer is there

In the newbie guide you will find what you need. Clockwork mod runs as update.zip, and as long as you have that file on the root of your sd card (phone memory, not external), you have cwm, and do not need to install via rom manager.
Edit: you can download the update.zip here http://sourceforge.net/projects/stockodinjfd/files/update.zip/download
And the newbie guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028
Using XDA premium, you should be too!

Help with custom roms

Hey,
I'm new to flashing custom roms and just want to make sure I'm going to do the right thing.
I'm currently on stock rom with root with ke2 firmware and a secure kernal (no triangle on boot) and I want to flash infusion 2.0.
So to do this would I just flash an insecure kernal so I can boot into CWM, perform a backup in CWM, then follow instructions in the infusion thread?
Thanks

Prior to that you would want the
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG1-v4.1-CWM4 root to flash via Odin unless you already have root and CWM 4 .
then follow .
Installation Instructions
Before you go into the instructions, please, for the love of god do NOT do a full wipe, it will interfere with the install process and cause bootloops. Can't say I didn't warn you.
Thanks to the great work from Design Gears this ROM is so much easier to flash. These instructions are universal to each ROM.
1.Download Infusion 2.0
2.Put it on your internal SD Card
3.Boot into CWM
4.Choose Install ZIP from SD Card
5.Select Choose ZIP from SD Card
6.Select my ROM
7.Let it install
8.Done, no need to wipe or anything!

Best method I can think of:
1. Look for the stock kernel thead and get the xxkg1 STOCK kernel
2. Flash that using odin. You should boot into secure xxkg1.
3. Get the cf-root for xxkg1 on the cf-root thread and flash it with odin.
From here you should boot into a rooted insecure xxkg kernel. You can follow the instructions on the cf-root thread to get rid of the yellow triangle but once you've done step 3 you're pretty mich ready to pick a custom rom you want and install it via cwm or the recovery menu.
Hope this helps.

[Solved] No Rom Manager free app in market.

So Im trying to install a custom Rom from stock on my homie's Vibrant but I noticed the free Rom Manager app is absent from the Market. The licence for the Premium version is there and you can download it but the free version has to be installed first. I tried pulling the one from my Vibrant and tried to install it in the now rooted stock Vibrant but it wont install and Im not even sure if you could do that anyways. I also tried just installing Clockwork Mod by renaming the zip file update.zip and flashing it with the stock recovery and I was able to get it to the "green" cwm recovery screen but everytime I tried to either wipe the catche or try to flash the custom Rom it would just freeze. Is there a work aroud to this. Thx in advance.

Was happening with me too yesterday. You need 1.7 mb update.zip file I believe. Return to jfd through odin and then go from there.
Same thing happened to me yesterday after a disastrous flash and an Odin back to stock!
Luckily I was able to Bluetooth the apk to myself from my wifes phone.

if I am not mistaken, I notice that noob guide does flash CWR (method B) but it does not root the android phone since there is no ROM Manager installed.

Instaling Clockwork Recovery after Root?

I've just rooted my phone using this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
To install ROM's (and in particular Cyanogen 7), I need Clockwork Recovery installed..yes?
I can't seem to find the obvious way to do this, but, can I simply use stock recovery, to run the CWM.zip in the above method to get to Clockwork Recovery - and then install Cyanogenmod?

Hmmm, nobody actually really answered my query there.
The phone is already rooted.
In the method I followed, you used stock recovery, to load Clockwork Recovery. I'm simply asking, can I use this method to install custom rom?

You boot into stock recovery. You then select a file called CWM.zip and this temporarily loads Clockwork. On a reboot, you'd still have stock recovery.
Yes you can flash custom ROM using that temp cwm, I do it all the time

Using XDA Premium over Resurrection Remix ICS, the Best Rom ever made
1) place your ROM zip to SD card root, again flash CWM zip from stock recovery,
and install zip from SDcard,
2) or you flash CF-root CWM version from CWM after flashing CWM zip, to get pemenent CWM
3) flash CF-root TAR file from ODIN to get CWM, no matter you already rooted
Excellent. Thanks guys.
