Big screen problem! HELP - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hi!
I have two problems with the screen on my prime!
1. The first problem was when I pressed the button of my recent applications one part of the screen flashes (I think this is a bug because I read for people have same problem)!???
2. Second Problem is that the screen on my prime after a few seconds (10-15) remember what he looked like a screen (homepage) and when I open an application in some areas can be seen in the background of the icon from the homepage, weather,...the same problem is when i have open another app. It is a bug or ... ?? Do you have some problem?

Do you have that force 2d gpu setting on in developers options? If so, cut it off. Then try a reset. Stick a paper clip in the little hole right underneaths the memorybcard slot. See if that helps.
For your second issue not sure what you mean? You mean a screen burn in? Like some t.v.s. get I'd you leave it on a same image for too long. So when you go to another channel you still see image from before kind of. That's what it sound like you describing. Just try a reset n see if it clears it.

No, i have 2d gpu off.Where I need to put paper clip, Do you mean little hole underneath memory sdcard slot?( it is factory reset my prime)? Second problem I try the screenshot but can not see! My screen remember that is a picture on it was, I open kaspersky and transparency on the screen I see pictures of homescreen or any other thing that was open before! and now i found two dead pixel =(

Yes, insert paperclip into the hole underneath memory card slot. Press it enough till you hear or feel it click. Then your prime will reset. I know what you saying now about the screen. You have ghosting or screen burn in it seems. Hopefully the reset will get rid of it.

Do I lose my stuff, apps, root on my prime when i reset my prime(hard reset)??? Yes do you have this problem (second problem)?? How to resolve this problem???
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201

Don't worry, they're removing having a screen from the specs for the Prime.

I reset my prime, but i still have this problem with recent apps and second problem!

No I don't have none of the issues you describe. Don't mind the troll tactics..lol. you might have to send in for RMA if you got screen burn in or ghosting. It happens with these type displays and on bigscreen t.v.s. there are some apps in android market you can try to fix it. Don't remember the names. Just search market for screen fix LR whatever. Good luck.

Reset won't erase your apps. Its more like a reboot button. Last resort is to try a factory reset. That's in settings. Backup n reset. It may just be a bad bug or glitch. You will more than likely lose your apps n data. You can always redownload if needed. That's not as important as trying to fix the issue. If nothing works, you have warranty. Just send in for a RMA

This is no big problem for me..First problem is bug 100% because when i have few recent app. i not have this problem.but im for second problem concerned! I'm afraid if I take the device guarantees they do even more damage because they are there at my poor services. Do I get a new prime? Sry for bad english!

Don't feed into the supposed " bad service" some describe. Don't be afraid to send it in. If they can't fix the issue then they will give you a new one. You have warranty. Use it. Just make sure to unroot your device before you send it in.

Yes ofc first UNROOT than send to warranty!
Tomorrow I will call them and see...I have a very bad experience with warranty because always do more damage than it was!

Oh OK. I see where you coming from then. Chances are if its a screen problem, they will replace the screen or give you a new tablet. Good luck
One last thing you can try is doing a hard rest from recovery mode. Turn prime off then press volume down and power at same time. It'll bring you to recvoery mode. Wipe all data n cache from there. Then do reset from there. Then reboot tablet. Worth s shot before you send it in. If its a bug or something, this might clear it. In recovery u use volume down to scroll thru options. Volume up confirms option u want to use.

I have that same issue with the recent apps button. It seems like a software issue that could be resolved in future OTA updates.
If you do feel like sending it in for a RMA, unroot it if it's rooted and do a factory reset of it before you send it. Call me paranoid but I'm not letting that thing leave my hands to go to a mystery factory somewhere with any of my personal data on it. I did this with my Captivate. If you need backups of all your apps you can use the Asus app or root the thing and use Titanium Backup and save the backups to your computer.

Phone Permanently Bricked?

Please bare with me.
This is the second time this particular problem has happened to my device.
So I was on the tram coming back from my maths exam today.
(Running a ROM with Hardcore's SpeedMod K2-15)
I decide to change the song, all of a sudden, my screen turns black and I can't turn my phone back on. I as soon as it happened I thought uh oh. (the battery was at 74%.
So I tried to reboot my phone, didn't work.
Tried to get into download mode, didn't work.
Tried to get into recovery mode, didn't work.
Went to see if anything happened if I put in my charger AND USB cable. Both instances nothing happened.
When the incident happened last time, I was about to have it shipped to Samsung, was in the car on the way there and I was still pressing the power button in hope that it would work. Low and behold, it turned on, I flashed a different ROM and kernel and was on my merry way until today.
After browsing Q&A for around an hour the only other instances I've found with this problem are my original thread (around a month ago) when the same problem occurred.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302645
And another one I found today whilst browsing.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289063
also here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18139062
So up to my knowledge this seems like a problem that isn't only a one off if I'm not the only one reporting it.
Is there anything I can possibly do to fix my phone or something to avoid doing so others don't run into the same unfortunate set of circumstances?
PS. two days ago I deleted a few folders on my USB storage as they were taking up too much storage space. I doubt they had anything to do with the problem though and that's the only difference I can think of that MAY have trigged the event. But I have no reason as to why it happened. I am also using NoMoarPowah and Chainfires3D mod (which I've been using for ages and i'm sure had nothing at all to do with the problem)
hopefully someone knows of a definite solution. :\
Wow the same thing is happening to my phone as well. Thanks for the detailed description. Hopefully we'll find a response soon. Also, I would suggest you investigate the volume of chode in the nearby vicinity of your phone, may be a problem (personal experience)
I just dropped mine off a stepladder in kfc, and i'm experiencing the same problem. Avoid doing this. Hopefully someone else has a better solution to your problem but for now, just don't drop it off any stepladders.

This sounds like a serious issue with your phone's hardware. You should return it to Samsung.
with the phones hardware itself?
If they manage to fix it do you think the'll notice it's been rooted?
I've removed the triangle and reset the flash count i've just got a new ROM on it.
(as in will it still be under warranty)
If you manage to reset the counter and get the original stock rom on it (or a new version which was meant for your device and came by kies) you should be perfectly fine, just don't root it again (until you get it back, that is).

In that case chances are very high that Samsung will simply replace it, given that they probably won't be able to turn it on, too.
That's what I've heard from many people atleast, who had issues turning their devices on.
Only way to find out: see if you can get warranty.
Other option: be honest that you rooted and hope for the best, yet I don't know how Samsung staff would react to that, probably not too good.
Ps:
I take it that you have a JIG and tried that one already? As you stated, that you did reset the counter.

I've given it to a friend but I highly doubt it would work. Anyway for now, I'm going to place it in rice JUST IN CASE there is a tiny bit of moisture on some part of the motherboard which is messing things up. If that dosn't work i'm going to go down to my mobile dealer and hope for the best
thanks for your help!
One question: Did you pull the battery, and put it back in?
I have had this sometimes before, it seems to be caused of overheating... But I'm not 100%. I have checked Logcat but nothing in there of interest.

TF 201 bricked?

So I changed a few things in the build.prop-file to get incompatible apps work on my TF 201 but then I somehow restarted it and now it won't boot anymore. Well it shows up the Asus logo and so one but then the screen just stays black (but still illuminated).
I already wiped the data and tried the recovery mode (with the Volume-down/up-button) but they didnt work, it still doesnt boot.
So any ideas which could help me? Im thankful for every help I can get
Maybe let the battery run out. There is also the reset button in the pinhole next to the SD card slot.
Why do people keep taking such risks. There has been a few threads already of some trying to do the same thing and bricking their device. Where these apps so great n important to now have possibly bricked your device? Instead of editing build. Props you could've used another device with same screen size resolution. For example a gameloft game, modern combat 3. Won't work on Prime because it says its incompatible. That is b.s. Prime just wasn't added to support list yet. So I used an Acer500 , same screen size resolution, version and it worked perfectly. A simple wrkaround without risking editing the app and causing a possible bootloop or brick.
Hope you get it up n running soon. Maybe letting the battery completely die and charging back up may clear whatever you did. I won't risk anything till atleast bootloader unlocked n we have recovery also. GOOD LUCK.
I already let the battery run out twice but it doesnt help, when I plug it in again, it just boots normally till the part where the screen stays black.
And the reset button under the sd card slot just reboots the device normally.
try to return it from wherever you bought it they will never even know what happened to it

I have the same problem with being stuck in bootloop. I've done the pinhole reset, as well as the power+volume reset... nothing works. I've let the battery drain.. nothing.
I just got off the phone with Asus customer support. They told me to return the tablet. Guess where I'm going today? Best Buy and returning it.
And yes, I'll probably get another Prime. They are just so Beautiful!

You sure about that? I bought it from Amazon btw. But I read that some people got the same problem by just applying an official firmware update, so I guess it's really possible that they will never find out what really happened .
but I think there's no other possibility but returning it. :/
I'll give you $50 for it. J/K.... Good luck getting it running.
I don't quite understand how some people can make changes with out us being able to use Clockwork recovery yet. I would return it, they will probably give you a replacement.
Wait til Feb. Asus will prolly release a restore tool along with the bootloader unlock. Like the ruu for htc phones.

Nope. Didn't have to tell them anything. It wouldn't leave the bootloader screen. So I did both types of factory resets. They only way thy find out that I rooted it is when it gets back to Asus, they are somehow to get a computer to recognize it (mine won't), and look at the root files therein.
I had no problem returning mine!
Hope that helps!
Did you at least make a backup of the build.prop? I think the system will make one automatically I am just not sure how to go about getting it. I would guess if you can get into it with adb you could pull the backup rename it and push it to the /system. I don't know the commands but I am guessing someone who has posted stuff in the development section does, maybe that would work. Also, I am not sure there is a way to clear the cache/dalvik cache. Maybe through adb somehow which might have to be done as well.
I just don't know enough about adb and the commands to get it done.
Problem is, adb doesnt work because the device isnt recognized. It always says "No device found" or anything like that. Well I'll send it back to Amazon but I think they will send it then to Asus, so there's a chance that they will find it out, right?

Think I killed it ? :-(

Hi, I'm really new to the transformer prime. I think it was NachoRoot I used to root my prime ? I say I think , because I can't remember:[email protected]
Anyway, there was an update today for my prime when I turned it on, so I updated and it worked fine while I was using it. I turned it off and went to work, and now it wont turn on or do anything ?? Is my prime bricked :-( ??
It it charged? Did you try using the reset button? Reset button is next to the SD card slot and you need to use a small paper clip. Could also try the cold boot. Press the volume down button and power button until you see some text on the screen.

Thank you, Will give all that a try now ;-)
The cold boot worked like a Charm :-D
Why did my prime need that then ? was it anything to do with the Update ? or some thing I may have done ?
And again, Many Thanks for your help and rapid reply ;-)
I will start by telling you my Prime is NOT rooted, but I've been rooting, modding, & flashing every phone I've had for the past two years. When you root a device or unlock boot loaders I've always found it best to never update. Which ever rom you are running will add an update usually fairly quickly after new firmware is available. I haven't rooted or unlocked my prime for the reason that Asus is pushing updates out so quickly and I've not seen any Roms that have enticed me enough to void my warranty. I also have been impressed with how clean Asus UI is, & there is no reason for myself to need any more performance for my every day typical use.
I don't want to sound at all like I'm second guessing your intelligence, but if you are new to this, I suggest making a nandroid backup and creating another every 4 weeks or so.
I'm super glad to hear that your Prime was saved! . My heart sunk when I read your title! Lol
I'm sure I'll be unlocking mine sometime soon
There's no need to worry about losing your root now through OTA's with voodoo rootkeeper in the market, its free. Not updating will just keep you from bugfixes, etc. Sounds like OP prob lost root anyway after applying the update unless he used it

screen issue please read desperate:(

I have a brand new asus transformer prime and Iv had quite a few problems but nothing that cannot be fixed until now:/ right the tablet has noot been rooted or anything like that its 100% stock.
The problem is that randomly as i was using the tablet at some point there was a horizontal line down the centre of my screen I will post a screen shot bellow.
From what I read on forums others got black lines all around their screen when updating from honeycomb to icecream sandwich. my tablet came stock with ics, purchased it from pcworld.co.uk(if that makes a difference) I read things about making changes to developers settings with transitions but none of that worked please any1 know anything about this pleas help:/
tablet is only 6 days old, and the line only apears when the screen is on:/

I'd say do a factory reset....you'll lose all data (unless you back it up elsewhere) and see if it appears on a "pure" Prime. If it's not there, then start adding your apps one at a time to see where it appears.
If it shows on the bare prime, then , it might be in the installed software.
You could then try downloading the .21 update and update the Prime again...Maybe a new install will cure it.
If, after all that, it's still there, then I'd return it to the dealer.
Good luck,
Bob

The .21 refers to the latest system update. You can update your Prime by going into Settings, About Tablet, System Update and checking for and installing the update. It appears to me that your screen maybe bad or that there is a bad connection. You might consider returning it if the update or the other suggestion of a system reset don't work.
Good luck.

If the Prime says you got the latest update, then it's possible that it was corrupted. The final test would be to download it from the support site to an SD card and try updating that way. There are a couple of threads that talk about updating manually....Just make sure you choose the right update version for the country that you are in...and probably don't need to say it, make sure your battery is fully charged before you start.....and since you're a noobe, have a good stiff drink before you start.....that seems to help noobies
Good luck

If the line is appearing in boot is most likely hardware issue.
Try turning off the prime, press volume down and while still pressing it turn it on, it should get you into basic stock recovery. You have a few secs to check if the line is still there.
If you see the line you should return it

The recovery screen uses the most basic of the basic drivers to run, if you are seeing it there it's hardware.
The fact that you are not seeing it when its off its probably because the issue is a Flex connecting the motherboard to the screen. Depending on what part is damaged you might see it or not when it is off.
.21 patch is just the latest Firmware. Go to settings -> About your tablet -> System upgrade check or something along those lines ^^

I repair Farming GPS computers for a living, (For example Raven Viper Pro)what your seeing is a panel fault, either with the LCD or the driver chips attached to it. this can be seen normally on a white/blue screen, sometimes it wont show with certain colors, I've never seen it show when a screen is off though.
It comes down to you should get it replaced. I've seen this on units that are brand new.
Sorry to be the barer of bad news.

[Q] No Root/Stuck on Sprint Logo - Ideas?

So here's the rundown - Any ideas helpful. Love the phone, but a new one is already shipping and if I can't fix this one I'll keep it when it arrives.
Here's what I was doing and what happened (nothing rooted/modded) - I was hearing clicking in call with Sprint and it was suggested to change roaming settings because I'm in an iffy call area and he thought it was a roaming notification.
After we hung up I made a couple of changes under roaming and the phone asked to reboot. On reboot I get nothing but the Sprint screen. Pulling the battery hasn't helped. Any ideas?
Sure missing my phone. Had to go back to my Evo 4G LTE and I am NOT happy. :crying:

If you can't get it to boot up, as a last resort you can try a Factory Reset. Power down and then press the Volume up + Home + Power buttons. This will take you into the Recovery screen. When it comes up, release all of the buttons and then use the Volume button to move to the Wipe Data/Factory Reset. Press the Power button to select it. Confirm by selecting Delete all User data. I thnk you have to select Reboot System. When it finishes, it should be just like it came out of the box.
Ha! I'm all thumbs today. I did what you said but hit the wrong thing and it rebooted all the way in. Yay! Thank you! Now to figure out if I keep this one or go with the new one. Need to get the clicking stopped.
Thanks!

As long as it ended well! :good:
Exactly. :good:
Turns out that it was my SD card creating the stuck boot issues. Makes no sense. N3 sees the card fine and I can reformat in phone. If I reload my SD info it jams again. Trying other ways. I'm pretty sure this issue was created by using the Move Apps to SD function.

You might try uninstalling those apps that you moved to the SD card, put your SD card back in, format it and then reinstall the apps that you just deleted...see if that fixes the issue. I had a problem once on my HTC EVO 3D that was similar...
Thanks. That's exactly what I did to fix it. Came here after to see your post.
Can't really use apps to SD with this phone. Used my backup to reinstall the missing apps and it mostly worked. A couple didn't reinstall. It's going back anyway. I tried hard to find a reason for the clicking every 45 seconds or so and can't. What ever it is, it's not for me. New one should be here Tues.

It definitely sounds like it is defective. Mine doesn't make any noise (unless I want it to).

The "clicking" was a "known" issue with MI5 and with MJ4 update it should have went away, have you taken the update and if not go into General/ System Update and do that.

Yes, it does. And, the thing is - I just received this phone Monday 10/28 and two different Sprint reps tried to get me to "file an insurance claim". I told them no, and told them it didn't make any sense on a new phone less than a week old. I paid my dues with the Evo 4G LTE. This time I'll make sure I get a good phone.
If it wasn't for the clicking when calling the phone would be perfect and I would be totally happy. Can't use it the way it is.

Thanks. I knew about the issue before I bought so I knew I had to update. My phone came in and had the issue. I updated all the way to MJ4. The garbling, fading in and out, weak signal, etc. was fixed so I thought it was all fixed. Called Sprint on an unrelated matter and heard the clicking while on with Sprint and they heard it, too.
I've uninstalled apps, removed notifications, etc. and it's still there.

Since I was returning the phone anyway, I did the Factory Reset and Cache Wipe just to see if the problem would persist. After rebooting and setting it up again the issues are gone. Amazing phone!
I know to do factory resets when a device is acting up, but wasn't sure how to do it on the N3 and your help with the process was the key. Thanks again! :victory:

Thanks. Me, too. That's why I posted it. To bring it to the surface. Hopefully it will help someone else. :fingers-crossed:
