Hey guys-
I know it seems that development is going slow on this device, but please dont post links to kernels you find / repost links that are on IRC. Right now ALL kernels are very alpha, and some stuff may be broken, thats why kernels have been released in IRC and only IRC, so the developers can see instantly what the problem is.
If the original developer didnt post the kernel here, I would not flash it, just because it may be super outdated or may brick your device. The kernels that have been posted were never meant for public consumption, just for testing purposes past the devs themselves.
Voodoo is on the way, and we do have working source right now for voodoo, and all source is up at www.github.com/jt1134 if you want to try building it yourself.
To install the stock hacked kernel (for use with clockwork) you can install this zip in recovery: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/458252/Fascinate%20Files/stockkernel-signed.zip
Edit: dirrk's kernel is posted below, it is still alpha / beta so be careful with it.

SetCPU Govenor: On Demand doesnt work.
Here are a few more overclocked kernels. Exercise caution when using these kernels and have a backup
Kernels are overclock to 1100/1200 respectively, and are using stock voltage levels. Speed is capped at 800MHz on boot, use setcpu or similar to overclock. DON'T USE ONDEMAND GOVERNOR!!AND DON'T USE PROFILES WITH SETCPU!!
BLATANT WARNING:
The original kernels posted here cpu/voltage values can be changed on the fly, even without rebooting. If you decide to change these values, then you are on your own. Please understand what you are doing. If you break your phone and yell at me, I will laugh in your face for ignoring the blatant warning.

Thanks for the update. I've been holding off because of the horror stories. I'm rooted for now and cannot wait for Voodoo!
I do need to work on my patience. Thanks to you and others who do what you do.

I agree with all of this, EXCEPT - I don't think development is going slowly! of course, all I have to compare with is the Droid 1. That device wasn't even rooted a month after it was released, and it was a couple of months after that before Koush compiled CM5 (current at the time).
I got my Fascinate on release day, and less than a month later we've got root, OC'ed kernels (not for the faint of heart, but they're here!), and we're soon to have reliable OC's and probably CM6.1 shortly after FroYo gets pushed.
Seriously smart and dedicated people are working VERY hard on this stuff, and it'll be coming along shortly!
A LITTLE patience people!
Ahaha, Same here. I remember CM4 and going to CM6 a few months ago seemed like the development went from point a to z over night.

Dirrk whats your definition of low voltage? If I read the doc correctly, JT's Kernal does 1.2Ghz with 1325mV; I believe. You at like 1250mV or something? Seems the Epic guys are making that voltage/speed combo work.
As always deepest appreciation for all your efforts
For some reason when I click on the link to the kernel it takes me to my Google docs with nothing there...

Flashed, installed SetCPU, adjusted scale to 1200 and was getting some apps closing on me (not force closing, just opening and closing) then it started to freeze, so i restored back.
Does restoring through CWM replace the kernel too?

You may need to use odin to flash the stock kernel.
I am still under restrictions or i would post a link to do so. It is in this forums if you look around.

I rooted my TB via the one click method offered by Captiankrtek and flashed Das Bamf 1.3.1. Then downloaded setcpu, autodetected speeds, tried disabling perflock (which it says was not needed) and then tried overclocking past 1024MHz, but alas, that is my highest setting. So I though maybe I need to flash the kernel. Went to Rom Manager and have tried every kernel under Mr. Bobrowitz's section. In the software information it clearly states the custom kernels but setCPU is still sticking to 1024. I tried uninstalling setCPU and reinstalling but nothing is working. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
Unless you have a overclock kernal you won't be able to overclock. Sounds to me you have a stock kernal.

I am running the kernel that is included in the Das BAMF rom. setCPU shows the smartass setting and everything, but 1024 is as high as I can go
You do not have an overclocking kernel. You cannot overclock in this one. That is the problem. Look in development for an OC kernel.

I am a borderline retard I guess. I thought it came with his 1.2 kernel. Also, I tried to flash the 1.9 kernel via CWR last night but I see that link is gone today so maybe that was broken when I tried last night. Anywhootles, I just flashed the 1.2 Kernel by Adrynalyne and it works perfectly. Thanks for not bashing me for my stupidity.

can R800x model be overclock
Erm,not really sure.Do YOU have R00T? you can make it slightly faster using SETCPU/NOfrills
Yes i have root
download SetCPU/NoFrills
it should make it slightly faster
ATM DooMkernel (dont quote me on this, and find out yourself )doesnt work with R8OOx .If it did,it would be REALLY fast

You can get a nice boost if you bump the minimum and change the governor with NoFrills/SetCPU.

Stock kernel maxes at 1024... You need a custom kernel to overclock... You can still use setcpu to underclock the stock kernel if you're rooted.

I saw someone post you could get tethering to work if you fooled it to think you had a different model phone. Nexus perhaps. Probably something to do with editing the info in the build.prop file but i haven't looked into it. Check out the other threads here to see if you can find a description...

There is no custom kernel for just the stock r800x that will allow overclocking with out incurring numerous bugs. The only way you can overclock without multiple issues is to flash a custom kernel and one of the custom roms. Nofrills or a similar app will allow you to increase the cpu minimum speed with the stock kernel so that it will respond faster from an idle state, but no actual overclocking will occur.
Also this should be posted in the general section as it is a question.

Is there any need to backup phone data such as apps, contacts ,messages, etc.?

IMHO most stable kernel is paolo v5/v6, it overclocks quite good (with external app - e.g. No-frills), no problem with tethering (wifi or usb) or 3g. I think v5 has a little longer battery life.
To backup stock kernel you need to make nandroid backup (that creates backup of everything on your phone and in case of restoring, it will overwrite every change you made on phone since backup). To do that you need recovery (I'm using ClockworkMod Recovery, but there is also other recovery somewhere in our P500 thread).
Recovery is also needed to install new kernel. There is short guide how to do that in kernel thread (you need to install downloaded zip). New kernel doesn't wipe your msgs, contacts or apps if you made no mistakes.
Custom kernels do few things: fixes bugs made by lg, boost phone performance (different kernels give more or less boost), unlocks overclocking, changing governors (controls CPU clock transitions, and therefore battery life and smoothness) and scheduler (i have too little knowledge about android to say, what it should do, but i observed no difference between schedulers), gives you better battery life, fix touch lag (but not multitouch inversion lag bug).
You should try Paolo's and Franco's kernels and choose which one fits you better. Franco's need app to use wifi tethering but is faster than Paolo's.
I experienced more restarts on paolo's v6 and franco's than on v5 (my favourite so far, but there is also new paolo's based kernel that I haven't tested yet).
To install recovery (and kernel) you need root.
All needed instructions and links are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901247
AND MOST IMPORTANT THING - ALWAYS DO WHAT INSTRUCTIONS SAY AND DO NOT INSTALL KERNEL THAT IS NOT INTENDED FOR YOUR ROM, SO READ AND INSTALL CAREFULLY.

Hey Indian user, don't be afraid of flashing Kernel, you can always change it.. and I went twice to service centre with CWM 5.2.0... OC-480-729... franco's .35 kernel ... and they didn't came to know anything... but if you give them a phone with custom ROM then the'll reject it..
Abhinav i m a newbie to android.. actually i m an IT person.. n understands what u r saying but i m feeling afraid of doing any thing wrong bcoz i have already bricked my phn earlier while flashing gb through kdz.. so its very important for me to under the process first...
As per ur suggestion.. plz correct me or help me if i m wrong:
Firstly i have to download adb n install over my xp based pc..
Secondly in adb i have to run adb push command for sending the database file to the phn...
STOP..... WHAT file IS THAT DB IS...? N from where i get this.. i mean where did i get this stock recovery,? in which format is the recovry is?
And how the process will be run .. n how the clockwork recovery is replaced with stock one.. i have tried the combination of three buttons at startup in stock rom but no menu opens instead the phn will forcefully reset. so where is the official recovery?.
Help me plz expain how to do n for what to do in each n every step...
Is it true that after installing cw recovry n custom kernel we cant do a kdz stock flash..... Confirm me that after having custom kernel.. it should not lead the phone in non detecting position.. n if kdz works n can remove both kernel n cw recovery too then i think this is much easier ... i had seen a lot of post that o1 bricked by kdz flashing gb.... so if it possible then i have decided to flash froyo first n then update the phone via pc suite.... help me.... plzzz
Sent from my [email protected] OpTiMu$ On€ [email protected]
yes if u flashed a cutom kernel a custom recovery or a custom rom you can use kdz just turn on the usb debugging mode in setting>application>development to flash official stock froyo or official gb.. by using kdz method everything will be reverted back to stock recovery, kernel, rom, everything.. i suggest you to firstly flash the stock froyo using kdz method so you will be psychologically satisfied that you can go to stock

There are 1.6GHz overclocks out there right now so it isn't an issue of speed, but it may have just been a bad flash or there could be something else with the build you are using and the kernel's problems are un-related.
I wouldn't worry, but just flash a new kernel and give it a go. You can always go back.

The problem is that is wasn't compatible WD is a AT&T build so use faux123 kernels and the elite that you were flashing is for cm7 builds this is a problem btwn AT&T and international for example I own international and to use old WD I had to either flash a unified kernel or use the "Ramfix" b4 it would run on mine but feel free to play around with it maybe try using the elite with the "Ramfix" let me know if that works just keep a backup of the working kernel so you can always go back and you'll be fine gl

Many phones just can't handle that much of an OC. Read the Faux or Clemsyn kernel threads and you will see this. Very few people have been able to run the higher OC kernels because like a PC, all hardware is not the same. If you experience boot loops, freezes, etc., you need to flash a lower clocked kernel.
And yes, make sure you flash one which is compatible.
