Every once in awhile, some chatter will be thrown around about possible HTC fixes (http://www.phonenews.com/htc-says-update-still-coming-nothing-else-3369/) and/or gutted ROMs (http://htcclassaction.org/#update_20080403_2).
So... does anyone have *any* information about the HTC video acceleration problems?
i think at this point its realistic to say that if you want video acceleration, you need to buy another $500 device made by somebody else. I predict HTC puts this off until affected hardware is end-of-life. My rant is off topic now, but in that case, my next device wont be HTC.
Ummm, so how am I going to watch my pron..... lol

Beyond the *problem* of not using the MS Media Player and substituting video playback with TCPMP (or another) set with the the video driver to GDI/RAW, what is the great issue? Even with direct draw drivers, I will still use TCPMP and its video playback is already exceptionally smooth as it is.
Screen redraw on the Today screen and other similar levels isn't out of line from what I've experienced on non-HTC WM/CE devices.
Sorry, but I'm still stumped on what is truly owed to us by HTC and -- more on topic for this forum -- the critical flaws that are inherent in the Titan.
Hopefully, they include support in the Raphael/Diamond. Who knows, maybe it can even be back-ported to our Moguls.

Supposedly, there will be a forthcoming update that will at least improve the video on our phones, but likely not drivers.

Go into the "Programs" folder, and scroll up and down a bit... The same thing happens with any "redrawing" of the screen which makes certain programs just run crappy. My *main* complaint that *actually* gets in my way, though, is the delay in rotating the screen. I typically don't use the hardware keyboard for exactly this reason. I would rather use the stylus and the on-screen keyboard than wait for 5-10 seconds while I wait for the screen to redraw.
It's more to the point to say that it underperforms (again... scroll up and down on that program screen) in comparison to *older* devices. There are some Youtube examples out there that are easy to see. It's just not the performance that matches the pricetag.

I don't know what you have done to your Mogul, but mine switches from landscape to portrait (or vice versa) faster than I could press a stopwatch button twice. The scrolling in File Explorer, dragging the stylus down the scroll bar, is instantaneous. I am running the stock Sprint 3.35 package. The only time I see terribly slow response is when the Mogul is connected to my PC and syncing...then it is glacial. But I do not usually use it when it is syncing so that has not been a problem.

I hate to repeat myself, but go click "Start" and then "Programs"... scroll up AND down as fast as you can... it is anything but smooth scrolling... as far as switching from landscape to portrait faster than you can press a stopwatch button twice, I can only assume you are trying to use your feet. I have used the stock ROM, the kitchen, and DCDs custom ROM... it's slow. I count roughly 2-3 seconds. Granted, it may not seem like a "long" time in the grand scheme of things... for a phone, it's an eternity, and ultimately... it's not as fast as phones that are 3 years old. I'm ecstatic for you that you are happy with the performance of your phone. Why would you even bother to *read* this message thread if that's the case?
Additionally... in File Explorer... don't try scrolling down slowly... try up *and* down quickly. If you can *see* the screen refresh, then it's too damned slow. It's supposed to SCROLL... not BLINK.

Backntyme,
I agree about the keyboard thing. When I switch to landscape and back it normally takes about 1-2 seconds. But sometimes much longer and it is quite annoying.
But for the scrolling thing, Foetus was talking about start>programs. You go there and scroll the page up icons up and down quickly. You will see the delayed screen refresh. Another one is when you use iGuidance or TomTom. The screen refresh is terrible and you get really jerky animation of turns etc. I haven't noticed especially bad scrolling in file explorer because the rendering is simple. But rendering of graphics is not great. But liveable.
But what the thread is upset about is not whether its liveable or not. It's about whether an expensive piece of equipment should be worse in some respects than its predecessor. And whether we are getting value for money. The device's hardware is capable of better performance, but HTC have chosen to supply a substandard set of software to go with it.
Foetus, sorry for answering for you. I thought you were offline. But you beat me to the punch anyway..
This is way off topic, but you know what really pisses me off about the titan performance? The fact that you have to turn sounds off the dialpad or it can't even keep up with your dialing of a number. My ten year old nokia (that i still have) sh*ts all over the titan for speed. Granted it cant do everything that the titan can do, but at least it does what it was advertised to do - and do it properly.

First, I didn't realize that we were supposed to PM you for permission to *read* threads on this forum and that you would only permit users who agree with you to read those threads. Nor does the thread title "Video acceleration news?" imply that it is going to be really just another gripe thread. Second, when you said "Go into the "Programs" folder, and scroll up and down a bit" that is not the same thing as "I hate to repeat myself, but go click "Start" and then "Programs"; however, in that screen, either scrolling or paging up and down, my Mogul also draws the icons almost instantaneously. That means in a fraction of a second. The switch between portrait and landscape is also accomplished in a fraction of a second. Scrolling in File Explorer works as it should with no blinking.
If I were in your position, instead of assuming that someone who posts different experiences than yours must be a fool who cannot tell how much time elapses during screen redraws and then telling them that they should not be reading "your" thread, I would question why my own device could not do what other similar devices can do.
I am not saying that the device is perfect; for example, sometimes when activating the Task Manager icon at the top right of the Today screen, it takes a second or two to show the running programs. But I do not believe that is a screen response problem.
maccaberry: I also use iGuidance 3.0.1, and the screen response works properly either with an external Bluetooth GPS receiver, or with the internal GPS receiver and the intermediate port workarounds. That workaround requirement is more a limitation of iGuidance than of the Mogul.
edit: maccaberry, you say that HTC has supplied substandard software. But at least some of your experiences are with a bootloader, ROM, and radio that were either not supplied by HTC for your device, or not supplied for use on your carrier, or not supplied to be used together, or have been modified from the software as it was supplied by HTC. I am running the stock Sprint 3.35 package with all of the customizations as supplied by HTC. Maybe that has some effect?
@bakntyme
Sorry im going to have to agree with everyone else over you... (not just this thread mind you but a simple search and you should see what i mean) but please feel free to either use MyMobiler and record a video of your superb performance.... honistly... or find some other app to record... even using the most slimmed down ROM to the Stock i still get what he is describing.... and worse... i have changed things to make the transition faster like 128K for the Glyphcahe system ram all up to 90% Mem usage WITH NOTHING running and no Today crap and it still takes 1-2 seconds compared to 3-5 seconds with no optimizations.... really a PITA
its also tiring reading a book Landscape then having the thing switch to Portrat then having to go all the way back to settings and flip the screen again before i can continue reading...
EDIT1: I recently dug up my Sony CLIE UX50 and even though its a PALM platform with a low 124MHZ PROC (me thinks it was) STILL kicks the Mogul/ANY OTHER HTC's video performance.. and even game performance... anything performance... except compression... (DUH Mogul/Most other HTC's have bigger PROC)
New Tilt 2.0 alpha rom speeds up graphics? (!)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=388728&page=4
Benchmarks posted here to illustrate the point. Some people think this is part of the promised optimizations from the manufacturer.
Other people are looking at drivers located in the new Imate 9502 that has a msm7200 chipset as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=339745&page=100
Maybe there will be some hardware acceleration in the new raphael and diamond that could be borrowed.
Hopefully these multiple approaches will synergistically gel to greatly increase performance for my mogul

Now as for the RELEVENT part of this post... I thought it was relevant to point out that since my Mogul does not exhibit the delays, the problems you are experiencing may not be caused by what you think is causing them. And if you read this thread, you will discover a post by another user who doesn't see the problem. The original post posed the question, "So... does anyone have *any* information about the HTC video acceleration problems?" A post indicating that the problems are not experienced by all users is responsive to that question. But since you all insist that your problems are systemic to the device, only new drivers will fix it, and any users not experiencing the problems should not be allowed to discuss it, I will let you keep that belief.

The fact of the matter is, hardware acceleration within the video drivers would considerably speed up all of the devices regardless of if you do or do not see a problem with your own device.

I can be polite exactly once per thread per idiot. Typically, it's a misunderstanding that is cleared up with a more in-depth explanation. As for permission to read the thread... re-read my question, except this time, pretend you're not a flame-baiting schmuck that didn't get hugged by his mother enough as a child. I asked you a question... WHY would you read a thread about a problem you don't have, nor have a solution for? I'm hoping you can play the piano brialliantly, thus adding the term "savant" to your title.

Actually... the question mark implies that I am asking a *question*. While it doesn't explicitly ask the question "Does anyone have some video acceleration news?", it does in fact do more than subtly *hint*. In fact... one would go as far as to say that it is IMPLIED. Your illilteracy is not my problem (Oh... and illiteracy is the inability to read... I am not saying your parents weren't married). Furthermore, rephrasing my example actually DOES count as repeating myself... it doesn't have to be exact; that's what the word "verbatim" would be used for. Isn't English FUN!??!

Before (as I said), I was polite about this. YOU ARE A LIAR. I believe that your pants may be ablaze. I have heard it suggested to hang pants in such a condition on a telephone wire. HTC has stated that they know about the issue and their solution is to buy a new phone when they come out with video acceleration. Either you are OK with the delay (which is what I assumed originally), have *zero* concept of time, or option C: you are a dirty, filthy, weird liar. I'm betting it's option C, I'm betting you look for fights behind the anonymity of the internet constantly, and I bet you die alone and unloved.

Actually, having the exact same hardware and the exact same hardware *does* mean that "just because other Titans exhibit poor performance in this area", yours does as well. Unless somehow, you have a defect in your equipment that somehow makes your phone FASTER. It's not an issue of having an open mind... it's an issue about having the same equipment. Again, though, if you have no issues with the performance of the phone, that's excellent. I honestly *am* happy that you are satisfied with your purchase... but you can't tell other people that their dissatisfaction with a product is baseless. Everyone has their own opinion... this thread, however, wasn't created for posting your *opinion*. I was looking for updates. HTC has said they're working on something (but have stated it's not acceleration, but more along the lines of "tweaks" and optimization)...
Hi All,
My HD2 just came back from repair.
I sent it in a hope that they will change my buggy screen (like lot of people, the touch function is buggy. Sometimes doesn't react, sometimes it feels a pressure while i don't press it, sometimes it works well... ).
Anyway, of course they didn't change any screen...and i just missed my HD2 for 2 weeks.
They did a Hard reset and installed all the HotFIx. Which i bet won't fix any issue that i have with the screen.
However, i do notice they installed a hotfix i never heard about yet:
LEO08787.exe
Does anyone have ever heard about it and what it does ???
send it back again and demand a replacement screen since it is a known fault with the original screens. They are just trying to get out of paying for the new screen.
regarding the hotfix nope, havent heard of it, but I dont track the hotfix versions so it may be a known one
ok lets install this and see how it goes..
hope its not a bogus file with some virus inside ...
HTC repair center SUCKS big time.
@kaemon: i also had that problems (sometimes the screen just wouldn't react to my touch) and i brought it to my reseller so they sent it to repair center and it come back untouched, they've only done the screen calibration which i have done dozen times. And it took them 16 days to do that. i'm definitely buying an iphone next time.
Unreleased hotfix
Apparently this is an (as yet) unreleased HotFix for the HD2, that is designed to correct some issues with the touchscreen. POCKETNOW.COM have tested this hotfix and found that it "drastically improved" the typing on the touchscreen, and also cured the HD2s alleged inability to draw a straight line when in Notes.
(Please note, I have not tested this yet, as I havn't suffered any such problems on my HD2, but I'm sure a quick check on their website will find you the page in question, which contains a link to the hotfix).
Pocketnow seem to think it's pretty decent. I'll give it a go.
Just installed it.. And I got to say i reckon typing maybe more accurate! not completely sure as time will tell. Installed on a Euro version about 5 months old, certainly the lines in Note are not like an ECG any more so
direct link for those who want it
http://www.mediafire.com/?kjmeyleaewz
IMO this is by far the best HotFix I ever installed. Typing works massively improved for me (also on the PIN-unlock-screen). I'm currently on German stock ROM.
So what do you reckon? Worth installing? Can it be uninstalled?
** Edit **
Just seen the two replies above - sounds good! I'm going to give it a try and will report back.
Tried it but didnt like it, it made my screen unresponsive and the ui jerky.
Installed after reading the Pocketnow tweet but uninstalled about 5 minutes later.
Screen became very unrespsonsive and massive slow down in scrolling.
Seems to be a 50/50 split.
Give it a try though

definately a little less responsive to some touches, i'm just tweaking slightly with HD2tweak and see if that makes a difference....
UpDate:
I wonder if this hotfix is just changing a reg key, the same as BsB tweaks to decrease the screen sensitivity or if it is actually a driver?
Ive just changed the screen sensitivity in HD2tweak to very high and it seems to have eliminated the unresponsive touches but remains much better with typing accuracy? I would love to know what this .exe actually does within the system..maybe someone more clever than me can take it apart and see whats inside.
oh yeah running a tmous 2.13 Rom on a euro Leo if thats any help
Well I tried it....
EVen though I didn't suffer from any problems with the touchscreen on my HD2, I thought I'd give it a go, and set myself a couple of tests.
1) I used "notes.exe" and tried to draw 5 straight lines, and got five slightly curved and wavy lines.
2) I typed a message "this will test how accurate my keypad is or how bad my typing is", and had to correct three mistypes/mistakes.
I then installed the hotfix, and tried both tests again....
1) Five pretty straight lines, certainly better than before
2) typed the same message, and only one correction.
So, based on the 5 mins since I installed, it seems that this fix DOES make an improvement. I'll keep monitoring it and report back to let you know.

i just tried the same thing...
after the latest update from TMOUS, my typing has been terrible. swype is unstable too.
gonna flash the latest energy rom. that should help.
if we're going to be posting feedback, can i suggest that those who try it also report the manufacturing dates of their devices (if known to them)? at the very least, do report what screen type is on the device. what i am referring to is the fact that the hd2 ships with TWO kinds of screens. earlier models shipped with a screen with fewer "dots" while the newly manufactured devices ship with a screen with noticeably more "dots" (these additional brighter dots are visible on the intersections of the criss-cross "lines").
i personally have the newer model and i have no problems whatsoever. notes always draws straight lines and typing is accurate out of the box.
"This hotfix is not compatible with your device."
"This hotfix is not compatible with your device."
Using NRGZ28 EnergyROM.
it work very well for me
sure it's less responsive :/

Same here, might give it a little bedding in period but I'm already thinking about uninstalling it
I just installed this and it has improved the accuracy of typing on the keyboard especially at speed. I can touch type (badly) so with any qwerty keyboard i can do 100 ish words a minute. Before every other word had to be corrected but my test sentence "this is a test to see if the keyboard accuracy has been improved at speed" needed not one. Line drawing is still too accurate (that was the problem before. it is impossible for a human to draw a perfect straight line free hand) but it is better. I've also noticed in my typing test that the contact i used to test the htc messaging app load speed (contact has currently 2481 messages associated with it) was massively improved. I have no idea if this is related but this patch appears to have done something to it. I'll keep an eye on that just to see if the effect is because my phone just had it's first reboot in 8 days or not.
Done some quick further testing on the Messaging app load speed and it appears that either the way the message database is loaded has been changed (instead of loading them one by one it seems to loading them all in one big chunk) or the graphics driver has been updated (reading this i'm not sure if it's not the undefined option 3) but something is definitely different there because whether it's 2500 messages or 10 the load time is now the same and faster than before.
Something weird is defintely up with this hotfix and i bet it includes more than just a touch screen update too.
ok so we all know that the htc leo has alot of cool features you can use on it and alot of its qaulity is unique. but unfortunatly it has lots of problems too. i so far has gotten 4 brand new htc hd2's and they all have bugs and problems within them like restarting by itself many times and freezes. tell me what u think?
I love the phone. But I also have very few freezes and have never had the phone reset itself.
I've never had a defective phone. I think a lot of it is things we do to them.

Same here. The only time I get lockups or slow-downs are after I install certain apps.
Same here..............
Had mine since November and the only problems have been ones that Ive caused through too much tweaking.....
And a problem with T Mobiles original stock rom but that was T Mobiles fault not the HD2.......

The HD2 is a wonderful machine that gives you best performance and wonderful features.
Especially when u compares it to competitive products or the price paid.
I have HD2 , T-8585, since January and never had any freeze or self restart.
All problems I had never cased from the HD2 itself. They cased from installing soft wares which sometimes do not work properly with other soft wares. That was easily recovered with the assistance of nice guys here.
Some problems occurred from defective accessories such as croppy cheap usb-micro cable.
The HD2 is wonderful machine that can be easily converted and modified according to your needs and imagination.
Thanks for the great answers ! I think its just the T-Mobile Rom thats a complete piece of crap. Because I didnt even add anything or tweaked the first 2 phones i got and they still caused many problems within the first day no B/S. Another quick question dough, how much would it cost to buy and repair an htc hd2 LCD screen, because one of my phones screen cracked. Its not the glass outer part that broke but the inner screen.
I am agree with you all, it's a great phone fast-big screen-cool design, but....
It's worth to pay 450 euro for this phone now (AUG)?? I mean I can wait for the next generation (mabe hd3/NOV or DECEMBER) thaat will have more features like an S-AMOLED and mabe a hdmi cable, and all of that with +50 euro.
Do you know anything about new HTC phones that will be released and when, and it is worth to wait more??? Thank you!
I believe the hd2 is one of the best devices on the market. It's fast, it has wonderful features, and now it is capable of running more then one os. Even the stock winmo isn't bad if yu change the rom and don't care about downloading apps. I believe for tmo usa, the hd2 is hands down the best phone they have, other then the n1. And yes better then the samsung vibrant, which is supposed to b upgrade but doesn't even have a camera flash.my experience with samsung phones has been horrible. I don't even think froyo has been released for it. Even tho it's ported, I've been running froyo on my hd2 since late july. As for up coming phones, google htc vision aka g1 blaze. 1GHz processor, medium sized screen, slide out keyboard and android. Basically the first legit replacement for the original g1. Much better then that mediocre mytouch slide 3g. The choice is yours.personally I love my hd2, but yu might just want to wait alittle while longer.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Btw the htc vision should b coming out before the years end. Also there is a rumored hd3 coming soon that is supposed to run wimo7. Decision, decisions lol best thing about the hd2, runs winmo 6.xx, runs linux, runs android, and most likely will run winmo7(I'm sure someone will figure out how to port it) what other phone can do that! Lol decisions decisions

i think its a Great phone, i love everything about it slim design customisation element big screen but unfortunately it does have its flaws eg battery life occasional freezing to name a few plus no further windows upgrade officially it looks like a dying breed imo but without the chefs on here this handset will be resurrected with android port coming through and presumably windows 7 the futures look good
I do love the phone alot and i do think its the best phone on the market but im just highly upset with its problems. My bad luck i guess hehe . I have another question dough.
What does the red or yellow dots on the back of the phone next to the battery on the lower left mean? I got a 3 phones with red dots but 1 with a yellos dot.

all that is a reset button. First it was red, then on the newer batch, it was changed to yellow.
For me, its the best windows phone I have ever used. Although if I was thinking of buying a new phone at this stage of the year, I think I would wait till around Oct-Nov or at least i'll wai for the first release of W7 and see if it is worth the wait. But the HD2's built I think is almost perfect(virtual keys at the bottom would have made it perfect for me).
Well dasz really true ! Thanksz for all da help guysz .. Ima jusz try to find the best rom out there . I wuld like sum help on dat too if u dont mind hehe This site is very supportive and useful !! Big thumbs up
Coming from a google phone for the past 2 years and then going back to Windows I was amazed how easy it was to deal with the phone.
The issues are the same as the others freezing, lag, etc. I think its the stock ROM itself, but I wonder? Sometimes it acts like my old dash and when you have to close the tasks and use a program to clear up ram space, it annoys me.
I don't like the windows market place, in google certain programs are free, but in windows you have to pay to use features? F-that.
I awating till they perfect a andriod rom to be put in the HD2 with no issues.
The good points of the phone is that it syncs to my outlook with ease..

So does this mean that no matter what rom i put into the phone, it will always be lagging and freezing as it normally would?

I wouldnt say that since most of the roms here seem to make it run better, but Windows mobile is crap compared to Linux.
The HD2 has the same features as my Andriod phone Google maps, You Tube, Google Browser, yet run like crap on the windows mobile phone. GPS take forever to lock on and the maps just has a differnet feel to it..Youtube runs differnet and the browser is crap
Does this phone really have a 1 ghz processor? It feels like my a phone is on 450ghz at times, again maybe window mobile requires too much?
I'm going to flash a rom on the phone since I am tired of the battery drain which is annoying
I have a Nexus One that I am in the process of selling since I like the Hd2 alot more.
The Hd2 does everything I could ever ask of a smartphone and more:
- Free turn by turn GPS directions
- Emulator gaming
- Word/Excel documents
- Bluetooth keyboard support (Android cant do this at all)
- Voice recorder
- Gorgeous 4.3' monster screen
- Tethering
I haven't had any problems with my Hd2 whatsoever. If anything Android gave me more problems than Windows Mobile. The only reason you hear about Android more is it's newer and the media want's to push it as hard as they do with Apple stuff for ratings...
I'm bored with my HD2. Because its working perfectly. I guess I need a new phone with lots of problems
I love the phone. It's design is great, the screen is amazing and the hardware is beefy. What really makes the phone though is the community and chefs here at XDA. I lose count of the amount of times I have reflashed my phone. With different ROMS, experimenting and messing around. It's a great device if you like doing that. It makes you pity the iSheep followers, really..
However, my main 2 drawbacks are this: 1) The battery life is poor.. although that is understandable with the screen and hardware it's got to supply. 2) the fact that HTC have confirmed that they will not be supporting/supplying WinMo 7 for the device. However, I hold out hope that will not be a problem for the clever guys here at XDA .
Well, GOTTA LOVE THIS!
so i just spent about an hour and a half typing in a complete breakdown of everything i noticed about a new TP i had been deliberating on opening due to days of reading posts about the negatives and lo and behold I decide to open it and type a HUGE report about everything that I have noticed through the few hours i've had it working and i decided to yeah post it even adding "now watch as it deletes this whole thing" so i decide to CTRL+A and copy...
DONT DO THAT! apparantly it ONLY copies the outlying information not in this box where i'm typing now and when i tried to submit it, it says i'm not logged in... well i tried logging in and ctrl V and bam it gives me the top portion of the thread page FML first MAJOR issue with the damn tab is a PEBCAK but w/e we only learn from mistakes sometimes. i will be posting a long thread about the things that i've come across with this device for any people out there who are on the fence regarding this new TP with the current serial number in the champagne style.
sadly i'd covered GPS, WIFI, the docking station issues, serial number location, installed version of AOS, and about 6 other topics that my bloodpressure currently will not let me remember bleh.
so since this thread is for anyone with any questions on a C10KAS model with the champagne style keyboard please feel free to ask below. i will be typing up a new post and saving it on my asus laptop when i get time again later and try to cover all the topics i did in the original post.
This device has NOT been upgraded past the installed 3.2.1 and wont until all queries have been addressed so as to help the majority of the users and possible future users come to decissions before irreversible changes have occurred.
sorry to sound flaming a bit but man am i ticked that i actually TRIED to save the darn thing and it still backfired, but se la vie and such is my lot in life. now i'll try to post this and hopefully find that it works
Trying Again...
Running by the [Guide] by Danny-B- i'm going to open this thread for the community to have the opportunity to ask away about the new TP i decided to finally open after watching it sit ever so quietly on my home-office desk.
Light Bleed
I noticed a very small amount of light bleed, barely any that would concern anyone really, thankfully i'd say functionally it's on par with what it should be.
Dead Pixels
None noticeable on moderate searching.
Serial Number -found?
Yep, it has the serial number registered so that's a plus.
GPS Reception
Nope. I used the QR code to get GPS Test and it shows a working compass and tilt sensor but all the readouts stayed zeroes for the 25 minutes i left it to run. I only have "Use GPS Satellites" ticked off in the location menu to test this, but also have to take into account that the test was performed indoors due to the fact that it's been snowing and raining all day so that in itself could be why the GPS function didnt work... Will retest when the weather is clear and i can get a good sky view.
*edit* crystal clear day today, not a cloud in the sky, not a gram of gps connection. i really dont need this but at least i know that the gps definitely doesn't work.
Wifi Reception
MIFI located up to 60 feet from device, since device will be in my pocket most of the time, the device should have no problems finding the signal as it's going to be only a foot or two from the tablet. Didn't notice any lag or lapse in the connectivity, it still worked Words With Friends as far as i can tell and that's the only program i will have installed aside from the QR Droid program for the testing of these issues. I did notice that the wifi signal was good but the quality of the rendering of youtube left me hoping for more, but the weather can play a huge role in this so i'm not too concerned and i can try this out moreso on a day when there's less inclement weather.
Dock/Keyboard Connection
Have to mention that the dock i purchased prior to getting the TP and i was very lucky to have gotten matching (both champagne models) as i wasnt sure what kind of tab was coming in the mail seeing as how they were pretty much recalled from every store i'd visited.
On my first attempt i was a little wary seeing as how the keyboard didnt seem to like the champ model so as i opened the box i was thinking this can still be a partial deal-breaker so we'll see.
Try #1 it pressed in and i heard a ding from the machine. no cursor opened i use the touch screen to open up the notepad and i can type, all the buttons and numbers worked but no cursor... curses! I undocked it.
Try #2 it pressed in and i gave it a little bit more oomph to see if that would help and i heard a satisfying "click" the cursor appeared it worked and i tried typing all buttons functioned properly.
Try #3 same thing, little oomph, click, cursor. so for this one, the matching champ models function properly when i give it a little extra push in until i hear a slight click.
Gyroscope
Up, Down, Left, Right, B A Start... anyway, all the directions worked and it grades in the GPS Test program down to a 2-4 degree reading so i'm fairly certain i will not have any issues with this part of the device.
Battery Conditioning
I charged it for the 8 hours, then plugged in the keyboard during the testing phase and left it plugged in until the keyboard battery read full. I have yet to test the quality of the battery life with and without the keyboard but I will keep you informed if this seems to be an issue as opposed to a non-issue
*update* well the dock is the primary source of the energy as it's supposed to be and it's been in full use browsing this forum and posting for 3 hours and it has gone down by only 25% ... i currently am HIGHLY impressed with the battery life.
Haptic Feedback
I got a mallard. Yes, i was thinking how could this thing sound like a duck but lo and behold the first time i turned it on i heard an audible "quack" to put it bluntly. I dont see this bothering me in the long run unless the vibration against the case's rear housing causes an issue with other parts, though the only time that i've noticed any haptic vibration is when powering it on. I dont notice any when typing on the screen or making selections so that may be switched off in the settings, i honestly havent played with any of the settings yet since i have only tried getting through the [GUIDE] piece by piece trying out things.
Firmware Updates
I will not be updating this until any questions members have, have died out. I wanted to create this thread so that everyone has the chance to ask questions about the Champagne model out of the box that runs 3.2.1. I do plan on updating to ICS in the near future but I also wanted people to get an idea of what this unit did straight-away. This model's serial is the C10KAS and came from Texas through an Office Depot "gmill" warehouse... an "other than the normal" warehouse per the store manager... who i had to finesse to get her to really try to locate one of these guys fyi.
Summary
I feel that i touched on a few more notes when i originally typed in this thread, but for the life of me i can't remember anything else to put in here.
The tablet is very responsive, Words with Friends gets a slight lag from time to time, but i'm not too worried about any gaming issues since this will be a work-related device and gaming is just a bonus if done at all.
I did notice that there is a minor lag when typing here in this box on the tab but i think that is to be expected as i noticed similar on my RAZR MAXX, Galaxy Nexus, and 4s.
Please, feel free to ask any questions or make any comments regarding this post. I want it to be as informative as possible to any people who have questions about a new TP before they are pretty much impossible to get.
interesting new development with internet
ok so here's a strange new development i've just noticed...
ANY link i click on, even to get to a new page of threads or to click reply...
ALL of them suddenly switched from opening within the original tab and moving on to the new page to now opening a separate tab on their own. i haven't done anything new with the tab, this all started just while accessing these forums on their own. i've tried a long press on them and select OPEN instead of OPEN IN NEW TAB, but everything keeps opening in new tabs, now i'm full of tabs on my screen.
any ideas on this one? strange how it would just stop working the way it was and start working this way all on it's own while just browsing this site. idk, i'm open to any suggestions.
*update* after clearing the cache and cookies it seems to have fixed this issue. nothing opens in new tabs now... im guessing it can only store so much before it forces you to new tab everything. just an fyi to everyone
Must.... try... to... resist.... ....Too .....STRONG.....!!!!
Well at least I have to say there it is now a posted answer for everyone asking how the new primes are running they are running the same. I have the C10k******* and its running about the same if not worse than my old Gray model, that was sent back about a month ago, because of the same issues. They aint going to get any better until Asucks fixes them, bottom line. Yeah there might be some that run perfect but you are the "Lucky Few" believe that. Us guys with the "this don't work models, were just screwed". well not actually I'm sending mine back and trying again. Or you can or deal with that issue that your prime has.
Mine has slight light bleed and poor WiFi, should I keep it? Still debating I got 14 days. But like I said in another post these will probably be easy refurbs to pick up soon. Asus probably has a full warehouse full of returned units, I believe my last unit I bought brand new sealed in box was a returned unit, I don't believe they are allowed to do this but I think they do in MY opinion. I don't think they are going to let a tablet that looks brand spanking new with just a WiFi issue sit there. lose $100-200 selling it as refurbished.
I believe they are boxing them back out and selling them as new. You wouldn't be able to tell, would you? All they got to do is clean it up real nice restore it put in new box, shrink wrap it again and, there are 100 brand new ones shipping to Best Buy as new. Then maybe they will get lucky and the person really doesn't know much about it, when they get it and they like it some much, it looks stunning, they can get a good signal in their bedroom, so they keep it. I'm telling you they are doing shady ****. Look at how they are treating us, a big F-U.
I know people who are giving it right back to them buying every model they find at the store if it doesn't work PERFECT. They are taking it back I know people that are on model 6 or 7 at least 5 or 6 people.
Where are all their refurbs selling at? I bet their return pile looks like a junkyard, That aint even funny for real. Asucks used to be a good company. They don't hold up to their standards anymore.
ASUS
JUST IN CASE SOMEONE FROM ASUCKS COMES BY, I IMAGINE THEY DO, WITH ALL THE PROBLEMS WITH THIS TABLET.
I THINK SOMEONE LIKE TEGRA OR GOOGLE ANDROID SHOULD BE ON THEIR ASS FOR THIS, REALLY TEGRA SHOULD BE MAD AS HELL.
JUST FIX THE PRIMES DO WHAT YOU SHOULD BE DOING, ITS THE BEST OPTION. IF NOT YOUR JUNKYARD IS GOING TO GET BIGGER AND BIGGER. AND DON'T BE SELLING ME SOMEONE ELSE'S USED SH*T, AS BRAND NEW.

Erm, it's nVidia (or tegra as you seem to want to call them) that are providing the code that is f#cking up the Prime. Just thought you should know.
I've been waiting for the Lumia 920 to be back in stock at the H3G shop here in my town. Now it's back but I've been feeling some bad vibes around the forums lately. I hear about users having reboots, lockups, dead phones, dust underneath the ffc, bad battery life, buggy browser, lag, light leaks, creaks, herpes and whatnot, so this got me wondering...is this stuff mostly bs or there's actually something wrong with this phone? Has anyone regretted his purchase badly so far? Did the Portico actually help or it's just too little and too late? Please let me know, because reading all of this stuff really puzzled my will. Keep in mind that at this point Android is no longer an option for me, so the only other phone I could go for right now instead of this one would be the iPhone5. I wouldn't mind waiting for something else to come out, but honestly this 800 feels a bit EOL right now and I'd really like to drop it, my battery is also starting to suck a bit so...
Looking forward to hear from you guys, I'm really starting to feel that itch, I've been using this phone for almost a year now, this is kind of a record to me lol.
You are unshure ... why should you by excatly this phone?
You mentioned all the negative threads but you could finde more positive threads about this phone.
It's just your focus. Go into a shop and test the phone.
If you buy and it serves the first week in a good way you can keep it otherwise return it.
I'm happy with my Lumia 920
I have my Lumia 920 (AT&T) for two months and I really love it!
I got the Portico update I the very first day and during the first week of use my phone hung up once. I was worried just like you because I read in the forums many users complaining about the stability issues they had, but honestly that's the only issue I've had with this device! No light leaks, reboots, dust, lag, etc..
There is strange rattling sound when the phone vibrates, but it's nothing to worry about and I got used to it anyway.
Hope this helps
@Anis108: Actually I always liked the phone, I love the design, the sturdyness, the screen, the camera, wireless charging, Nokia goodies, and overall I'm just in love with the platform. However I'm also concerned about the reliability of the phone in the software department and I'm also concerned about how the thing can hold up through an extended period of time, since I'm planning on keeping it for a good while. Holding a phone in my hand for a few minutes can't really tell me much about these things, and even a week may not be enough to me, since I tend to be quite picky. Getting a new device is always a big leap of faith for me, especially on contract.
@Boshko: thanks, this is the kind of feedback I'm after...I just wanna hear the good, the bad and the ugly about this phone, because obviously reading topics made by people having issues will make the phone look bad, whereas those about how great the 920 is will gather mostly hardcore fans. I just wanna hear some random opinions to make up my mind here
AW: Is this phone really THAT bad?
Portico fixed my random reboots...
Sent from my Windows Phone 8S by HTC using XDA Windows Phone 8 App
I've had mine since it was released. Love it. Great design, functions beautifully. Haven't had any of the issues posted. I must be living right.
Have mine since it was released last October. No major problems. I've rebooted twice because I think something was sucking my battery too fast. Uninstalled couple of stock apps (stock portfolio, finance apps) and things are back to normal. Love the camera even though I don't use it everyday. Battery life is awesome for me - I routinely get close to two full days (about 40 hrs or more).
All in all, I'm a happy customer.
As far as forum problems, you have to remember that you're more likely to hear what's wrong with the device rather than the positive. Those who have problems come and post their issues so that they can be resolved with other people's help. If you are happy with device and have no problems, you're less likely to post your positive experience.
I'd say don't go by the forums - try the phone yourself and see if you like it or not.
My $0.02.
Using the phone for month and a half I can say it was a good purchase:
Depending on the use that you have intended for it, it may be what you are looking for.
If you are a person who likes to hack things, and wants to see how can you make the phone more customizable via tweaks and those stuffs, then this may not be the ideal for you as this thing is very encrypted and secure(for now).
If you are a corporate guy office and exchange will suit you because are optimized for the platform and consume very little battery.
If you are a globetrotter (travels a lot) then the GPS Navigation apps will suit you.
For the battery life there are two points:
on the first 2 weeks the battery will calibrate itself and you may see that after that time battery life is considerably better.
All the apps that runs on the background only runs for 2 weeks if not opened by you, WP8 has this by default, to enable background running again or to reset the counter just open the app (Microsoft did this for battery life)
I don't have dust on my ffc, camera is very good, phone is solid and at first feels kind of heavy but one gets used to it.
the WP8 is still an ongoing project, so many things are missing on the software side, but are on their way.
Overall I like this phone because I bought it and fulfilled my expectations: Sunlight readability, screen usable with gloves and true offline GPS Navigation, those are what I need for doing my job and the phone is very good at it.
The downsides: Some apps make the phone really hot (not optimized GPS Apps, like "Navigation 3D"), the battery consumption increases way more than other smartphones in low coverage areas and drains the phone quickly (30% more o less), still many software features missing.
So far after portico I have had 3 reboots(1 freeze but occurs on specific hardware calls, like turning "bluetooth on" on very rare conditions).
I plan to stick with this phone for a while, after 3 years with android I felt that the platform was not bringing nothing new, new physical design yes but the OS was always the same and nothing new since android 2.3.

Couldn't say it better..
I've had mine now for about 3 months. Came from (Smart phones) HTC OneX, HTC Evo 3d, Samsung Galaxy S, Moto POS, HTC G1. The 920 is without a doubt, for me, the best phone I've had yet. Everyone's analysis is subjective. Mine is no exception obviously. I will say only this. I have no qualms what-so-ever about recommending this phone to others. Both the hardware performance and the OS for me have been exceptional. Maybe I'm lucky or the exception.
Unfortunately, I'm one of the victims here. To start off, I LOVE this phone - I really do. It has everything I could want, and when it does work it is amazing (wireless charging, NFC, beautiful screen). However I personally am on my 3rd phone. The first 2 had problems locking-up forcing me to do the "power + volume-down" reset. The second phone also got a large piece of dust under the front camera. Fortunately, the 3rd one seems to be working. My wife is on her 2nd phone - same locking-up problem however hers only seemed to lock-up when being wirelessly charged. Now, a friend of mine who just got one is having the same wireless charging lock-up problem.
So I have to ask - what the hell is going on with this phone? By now, Nokia should have all of the "kinks" worked-out, Portico has been delivered and we're still seeing this crap? Oh - and I forgot to mention the "rattle" when vibrate is turned on. Grrr.....
I'm now using an HTC 8x for a while as I moved to China and haven't gotten my 920T yet, and guess what? The 8x works like a champ. Just wish I had wireless charging and more flash storage and I wouldn't go back to the 920T....
Is it just me or does it sound like that people that have flashed from a non stock ROM are the ones that are talking about the most issues? Is debranding and unlocking really worth all the issues this seems to be creating?
I have had mine stock for 3 months now and have not had one single issue that anyone in this entire 920 section has complained about. There is one very tiny light leak if I look down at the screen from the speaker end at an angle that I would never normally look from so it is irrelevant to me.
It just seems that the one common thing that most of these issues have is they are all on flashed phones.
I don't see the point of unlocking and debranding if the phone works for you as it is. We all know from past models that even unlocked there is very little you can do to one of these to customize it.
I have always been taught that if it is not broken, then don't fix it. If it works and does what it needs to as stock then why not leave it stock? Seems a lot more dependable that way to me.
I had rebooting Issues with me german Lumia 920 until I flashed it to the Austrian Portico ROM (I live in Austria). I didn't want to wait for the Update. But I have not had any issues since so flashing seems not to be the culprit. Many of the other issues did not occur on my phone at all.
I'm very happy with it since Portico . Before Portico I had some reservations but that was mainly due to the anxiety that it might reboot again (happened every few days).
Let me just tell you now, I am a perfectionist in the worst kind of way. I have issues with this phone but for some reason, they don't bother me. I'm willing to put up with them, I LOVE this phone so much. I have the light leaks but they're not apparent unless you put your eye very very close to the screen, in the dark and inspect the inside edges of the phone. If I press on the SIM card tray, the chassis of the phone creaks a bit but it's also the thinnest part of the phone so it makes sense. My phone locks up in standby every now and again so I have to reboot it but volume down + power but it only started happening AFTER the portico update. Also, ALL the Lumia 920's rattle when they vibrate because of the OIS in the camera. It's normal. I turned off vibration anyway, cause I don't like it.
I can tell you, the camera is NEXT-TO-NONE, stills and video. The call quality is excellent. The display is awesome and the durability is excellent and I love the cleanliness of the OS. NFC works on this phone the way it SHOULD work. Intuitively. I'm really good with phone as I used to work for a carrier but I couldn't for the life of me get NFC to work on my galaxy nexus, or my S3. They will be updating the phone this holiday season and it can only get better from here! :good:
I have no problems at all from mine. Fantastic device.
well the core functions work flawlessly as compared to other smartphones.
catches gps signal easily for me, camera starts in instance, typing is comfortable and more accurate than android and entire UI is fluid as opposed to android and iphone5 for me.
only problems are the light leak, battery life (but almost all phones have battery life issues unless u use blackberry on 2g signal).
and the dust settles between screen and chassis very easily.
I love mine, the camera is great so is the screen.
Don't have any of the problems that others have had, the only issue for me was once I updated the nokia apps to the here versions, my battery life died a death. a quick uninstall fixed that. but now I only have the map app, will try the others one at a time to find the culprit.

Thanks for your insights guys. Actually I kinda made up my mind, I'm getting the 920 either tomorrow or early next week, still can't decide between white and black tho, any suggestions? Are there any differences in terms of durability?
No problems here.
