I know a lot of people know about this but I'm sure there are people who do not. If your Prime locks up or gets stuck in a bootloop, you can hold "Volume Up, Volume Down and Power" all at the same time. It is just as good as pulling the battery, which cannot be done on the Prime. Well... Can't be done very easily anyway.

Huh, interesting. I thought you could just hold the power button until it shuts off.

If it's locked up or in a bootloop, sometimes it won't shut off with just the power button.

If I'm not mistaken, just turning the power off, will only reboot the device (and there's a tiny pinhole on the side for doing the same thing).
Using the other combination will restore factory defaults, I think.

The small hole on the side near the micro sd slot is most definitely the soft reset switch. if you use a paperclip you will feel the switch and you will then get a reset (not a full factory wipe) if the tfp is turned on. (not sure if it works when the unit is off!)
The hole for the mike is on the top bezel half an inch to the right of the led if you are looking at the tfp from the back.
Hope this clarifies the locations

Actually during a boot loop, you just have to hold the volume up key when the screen goes black for 5 seconds, it'll stop the prime ... At least it works with my paperweight-prime (waiting to flash the new .15 firmware ... waiting for asus to finally put the zip firmware file online)

Mine works fine here. This is how I always learned to do it. Press both volumes and then the power button. Hold until it resets.

It will sometimes only seem to work of you start pressing volume down, then up and power and holding. This trick works if your phone has frozen as well.
Nice!

Hey so I was using flash to watch something on Amazon Instant Videos and then it froze up and when I pressed the back or home button, the tablet froze completely and the screen just went black. I don't know what's happening because I can still hear the video. When I try to press the power/lock button, nothing happens and the screen stays off. Is there any way I can fix this or make it power off by itself?

glad you got it working. some apps aren't updated yet for this version of honeycomb or tegra3. sometimes they go on the Fritz. Google earth did that to me. after a while zooming in and out, it froze up on me n basically same thing happened to me. ended up rebooting the prime.
a fresh reboot, power off then back on again, wouldn't hurt. might get rid of some kinks or end a process that might've causing issues.
Anyone have any idea how to factory reset if I can't see the screen?

Have you tried a manual reboot? Hold power + volume down till the prime reboots.
Are you sure it's even powered on? heh j/k, had to say it.
If it's unresponsive and manual rebooting doesn't work, there's always waiting for battery to die. In my experience, Android seems to reboot itself after a while when there are freezing issues...
When I hold the power down it will vibrate every 10 seconds as if im cold booting it, and if I don't hold it down and wait for it to boot I can essentially unlock it and shut it down since I know where on the screen to press for shutdown. I know its shutting down cause after i press on the screen where shutdown button is, a few seconds later itll vibrate. So I'm pretty sure its the screen.
I remember reading somewhere here you can factory reset by holding down volume down then power button. And wait a few seconds realease them then either I leave it alone or press up or down volume and it will factory reset. I just don't remember the sequence. Anyone else remember? I think maybe juniriders recommendation will work.

Once it does cut back on, uninstall Google chrome browser immediately if you have it. Others that had same issue also just recently installed that app. They uninstalled it and device behaves normal again. Worth a shot if you do in fact have it installed.
Thanks for the input guys. Ill try the power + volume to factory reset. If its still wont come back on I assume its a screen issue.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Are You trying the reset button?
I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. HDMI TO TV! So I was right that it is the screen issue cause I can see everything on the TV. Gonna back it up, factory reset and see if I can get it exchanged.

So out of no where my power button is being very strange. When I press it, it will turn on the automatically turn off I will if i press it again the screen will flash on and then off, it only does this every once in a while, but its very annoying.
At first I thought it was my rom but it does it in recovery as well, I will press the power button and acts as if I double.pressed the button.

+1, mine also. Hardware problem?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
My refurb that I received a couple of weeks ago does this as well. Very annoying. I have an upgrade available and the EVO LTE cant get here fast enough.
Add me to the list, mine has been doing it for months.
Same here! I always thought the power button was a little sensitive. I wasn't sure if it was a software issue or a design issue.
Glad to know I'm not alone..
Certainly a hardware issue. Have you seen the size of the power button without the battery cover on? If you press too hard on power often, the button may become super sensitive.
I don't know any solutions. I've experienced it, but rarely.
So if mine gets worse ill take it on for replacement
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Yay Im not alone! :O Got that issue too.
Mine too. Not rooted
Also when mine does this, 50% of the time the phone will end up rebooting before the screen says on
Power button had been a problem from the beginning, mine is so bad that it almost sits flush with the body and I have to struggle to press it and get it to work. I remember people complaining about it when the phone came out and its a simple mechanical problem.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Mine has a similar issue, but it's the volume buttons rather than the power button, where if I press it once, it registers two hits, which was particularly frustrating when I had TWRP 1.0.
It's definitely a hardware issue. My first one had this same issue. My new one doesn't have any problem at all. Switching the back cover doesn't make a difference on the new one. I can't get it to happen at all with it.
For a temp solution you can use leedroid tweaks and set something else besiders the power button to turn the screen/phone on/off. Like vol up, down, or camera button even.
Mine does this aswell, non-rooted

I don't know if you guys already knew this....to soft reset the evo which is the same as pulling out the battery you only need to press and hold power for 10 sec.

This better not be a soft reset. Logic dictates that this reset is hard.
It just powers the phone off completely. Not a hard reset , I guess (depending on your definition, but when I think "hard reset", I think factory reset and restore).

I've shut my phone off twice in my packet because of this feature! They should of made it a two button press or a button under the plastic cover.
