Soft Reset HTC EVO LTE - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I don't know if you guys already knew this....to soft reset the evo which is the same as pulling out the battery you only need to press and hold power for 10 sec.

You must be a wire fly customer. Late to the game.

Anyone who didn't know this has either been living under a rock, or is an iPhone user.
Edit just in case this comes up in a search, see my post (#10): forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26616731&postcount=10

This better not be a soft reset. Logic dictates that this reset is hard.

It just powers the phone off completely. Not a hard reset , I guess (depending on your definition, but when I think "hard reset", I think factory reset and restore).
sent from my Evo LTE, usually.

I've shut my phone off twice in my packet because of this feature! They should of made it a two button press or a button under the plastic cover.

Don't haste with the pen.

I did a phonecall a few minutes ago in which I used the Flyer for taking notes. Just right after the call I wanted to change the color of the pen in order to highlight some notes - and clicked on the trash bin button, so the note was pure and blank again, and no way of getting it back. Please, if you like your notes, avoid the button .
I did this too. Undo does not work

Meaning what?
It is a really bad design decision. The first rule in UI/UX design: protect user data, make it hard to delete accidentally. HTC should fix this as soon as possible.

Similarly, if you use the screenshot app to mark up a map, one accidental tap on the back button blows away your work. Ugh.

Evo3D ROOT RETAINED AFTER SHUT DOWN BUT NOT AFTR BTTRY PULL

OK MAKE THAT SORTA PERM UNLESS U PULL THE BATTERY...LOL
Recently i posted a thread where i was able quite by chance to shut down and restart my temp rooted evo 3d quite by accident. I have experimented with this method and it is stable, dependable and works, i do not loose root when i power off, and power back up.
Its as simple as this on my temp rooted evo 3d, hit the power button to get the shut down choices window, i choose power off (shut down) and as the evo starts to shut down and the screens start to change i hit the power button a few times, the evo powers completly off.. And i power it back on, and it boots up and has root as confirmed by titanium backup and cpu master.
Thats it folks... My evo 3d does it ! Wether yours will..i dont know..
It may ulitmatly depend on how you rooted it..not sure..

Remove the battery, do you still have root?
doesnt work for me
plus theres situations where 3D freezes and u have to pull out battery
so wouldnt call it permanent root
Do you have fastboot checked? Have you tried a battery pull?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Your basically fast booting it but cool story bro !
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
That because you have fastboot enabled. Uncheck that and power down. I bet you

Not sure where fast boot is..but ill find it and see if its checked, and..even i.. Am pretty sure that if we pull the battery its going to vaporize the root...
Sorry didnt mean to make a false alarm..its midnight and brain is in sprint employee mode...( no i dont work there..just saying i was being dumb..) lolololol

No Need To Battery Pull

I hear people are still pulilng there battery all the time to reset there frozen non responding phone.
Just so everybody knows if you hold down volume up, volume down and power all at the same time the phone will reset without having to pull the battery out.
Just passing this on as it seems a lot of people are saying still they had to do a battery pull.
Thanks, I'm no technotard but didn't know this. Will most certainly try it next time!
frickin awesome!
I'm always pulling the Damn battery
Evo 3D in full Affect
But does it work while the phone is frozen?
If so, this is really amazing.

Yeah, its also working, when your phone is frozen/in a bootloop or whatever.
...I knew of this feature for some months now - was working on my hd2 running android too.
I wonder, if this is a general android or htc feature.

Well I'll be............ Great post!
Sometimes it doesn't work but the majority of the time it does!
NICE ...... this is another reason why I love this site, everyone helping each other weather it is something major or something small like this that actually eliminates alot of headaches.
thanks. will test it out next time my phone gets stuck. it's actually very helpful to me...pulling my battery entails removing the skeleton, the rubber cover, the case, and then the battery door...so it's a lot of steps for me
My phone has yet to freeze on the stock rom, but thanks for the info.
Doesn't this work for most devices? I know that's how I reset my touch pad too.
boom!! from my shooter
Awesome, did not know this either
Thanks for the tip. I been using HTC android phones for a year now, rooting, flashing and all, and didn't know abt this.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Well yes, but pulling battery also disconnects the phone from the cell towers which can reset poor data/ voice connections
Are there many people who experience their phones freezing that often? I honestly havent had my phone freeze on me once.

It doesn't freeze often but every once in a while mine will freeze or reboot.
Thanks for the tip. Didn't know about it. Whnever I'm connected to my computer and it freezes I just fire up a command prompt and "adb reboot". Faster, unless your not around your comp.

Just as good as pulling battery

I know a lot of people know about this but I'm sure there are people who do not. If your Prime locks up or gets stuck in a bootloop, you can hold "Volume Up, Volume Down and Power" all at the same time. It is just as good as pulling the battery, which cannot be done on the Prime. Well... Can't be done very easily anyway.

If I'm not mistaken, just turning the power off, will only reboot the device (and there's a tiny pinhole on the side for doing the same thing).
Using the other combination will restore factory defaults, I think.

The small hole on the side near the micro sd slot is most definitely the soft reset switch. if you use a paperclip you will feel the switch and you will then get a reset (not a full factory wipe) if the tfp is turned on. (not sure if it works when the unit is off!)
The hole for the mike is on the top bezel half an inch to the right of the led if you are looking at the tfp from the back.
Hope this clarifies the locations

Actually during a boot loop, you just have to hold the volume up key when the screen goes black for 5 seconds, it'll stop the prime ... At least it works with my paperweight-prime (waiting to flash the new .15 firmware ... waiting for asus to finally put the zip firmware file online)

Stuck on pixeled screen

So my wife pulled her phone out of her pocket and her LTE was stuck like this.
Can't do a reset or anything. Anyone else have this happen?? On the way to a Sprint store now.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
i'll be honest..... doesn't look good........
on the 3D you could hold the 2 volume buttons, then the power button until the device reset. not sure if that trick is still available. give it a shot.
That looks like the beginning of the ole shut down/screen off animation.
Regardless, holding the power button down should reboot the phone. Assuming everything comes back up alright.
If you hold the power button for an extended period of time it will simulate a battery pull.
Sent from my Evo 4G LTE using Tapatalk
Be careful that this isn't the next thing that happens:
You need to hold the power and volume down button.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Tried them all......hold power button down for 30 seconds to simulate battery pull and power button with volume down. Both restarted right back to pixeled screen. Sprint rep called it "garbled" just now. They had no idea and hadn't seen it. Will see in an hour......

That doesn't look like an LCD problem to me... unless the connector was borked.
Ive seen that screen on my EVO shift long ago. More than once and I had to battery pull to fix it.
