How would I unroot SGS2 XWKI4? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to maintain all my appdata and stuff, how would I go about unrooting?
SuperOneClick and S2 Root freeze whenever I try to unroot with those, is there anyway of fixing this and if not can you link me with the correct things I need to download because I have quite literally explored the internet and I am tired.
I need to send this thing off totally unrooted for repair.

Why make another thread?
What use is keeping app data on your phone if you're planning on sending it off for repair? Chances are it's going to come back factory reset.

True... Then how do I reset my phone to stock?

Flash original stock firmware for your phone via Odin. You can usually get it from sammobile just sign up and type in your model number and search for your original kernel if you can remember it, download, flash via Odin in the PDA section.
EDIT - you will need to reset your flash counter also using a USB jig to remove any trace of rooting.

And this will totally remove root from the phone?

Yes it will. I would do a backup of anything you want to keep and do a factory reset before flashing.

I cannot find a firmware version on SamMobile with the correct CSC version? Would I do a nandroid to back it up?

What was your original version? Yes you can do a nandroid backup.

Desperately need help.

This is slightly off topic, but I desperately need help.
I put ICS on my Dads Samsung Galaxy a few days ago, and left him to it after that. He decided he didn't like it and without asking me about it, decided to restore it back to GB through CWM recovery. He's now stuck on the boot screen every time he starts his phone.
I'd really appreciate some help here guys.
Thanks in advance.

try wipe cache and dalvik cache and reboot from recovey...
if no hope try wipe data factory reset and do again a restore..
I like your dad's decision - the way he went about it is obviously flawed...
Standard bootloop? Flash stock etc. Backup?

Wipe data/cache from the recovery menu and then try a restore.
if doesnt work probably there are some corrupt files in the backup so wipe and then flash the rom you(your dad ) want.
WARNING : Wiping data would make you loose all your apps but amything in the 'sdcard' wont get effected

Also, the reason for him wishing to restore was something to do with the fact his phone calls weren't working. He said he posted on here through this account and got no reply so decided to try and restore it.
He can make and answer calls, but he can't hear or be heard by the other person.
Any idea?

OP, I thought you said your dad's phone is a Galaxy S, not an S2? Well this is a link to S2 firmwares.
Edit: went back and read... Yup, you said he is stuck on the i9000 screen. You are better off asking for i9000 help in the i9000 forums...else people will assume you are talking about an i9100, and tell you to do things for the i9100, like above.

currently i have a 2.3.6 custom rom and would like to flash I9100XWLP9_I9100KPNLP1_KPN with odin, this is a 1-part odin flash, so i have to flash without re-partition and afterwards make a factory reset, is this the correct way to upgrade? thx

He doesn't NEED to, but it is usually better to start fresh. Reduces the chances of weird problems.
Every update I do, I back up all my app data using TB, full wipe, update, and then restore my TB backups.

The real answer is no need for factory wipe its not in the instructions .
But as posted many of us do wipe the phone before an upgrade and factory reset afterwards .
It does no harm anyway and is probably good practice .

unrooting how?

Hi xda goers .
I'm trying to unroot my s3 ready for jb?
I've flashed back stock kernel via odin .
Flashed recovery through s.gs3 toolkit 1.0 which got rid of cwm etc.
But I'm still rooted?
It's still says custom binary in recovery mode & ota update fails @ 30%.
Do I flash full pda csc etc again?
Will it wipe my phone clean?
Don't wanna wipe my phone clean.

You need triangle away to reset the counter. Then find your original firmware and flash with odin.

Reinstalling Entire Phone

Hi xda developers members,
I'm currently trying to reinstall my phone back to stock with just the stock files and nothing else, can anyone tell me how I would go about this? I just want the phone cleared of all apps and other files as I want a fresh start with it.
Galaxy is currently running Jellybean 4.1.1 rooted.
Thanks.
factory reset in recovery if you've not been flashing any custom roms/rooted etc...
EDIT - or just do a reset through the settings menu

Unfortunately the OS is rooted. Is that an issue?
EDIT: Thanks for the information, so if I reset the phone via Settings > Back Up or Reset > Factory Data Reset. This will wipe all the apps, files and the root off my phone and just leave me with the OS?
nope -
run triangle away first if you want to reset the counter
then flash a stock ROM firmware from sammobile.com - use ODIN to flash it.
then full wipe through recovery
should all be stock then....

I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to all this stuff so bare with me on this!
1. Why would I want to reset the counter?
2. I don't mind the device being rooted, I just want all the files and apps gone, I wouldn't mind if it was just the OS and the rooted files. Would that be done if I did the Factory Data Reset?
Thanks.
Oh right, yeah, if you still want root just do a factory reset

Cheers mate, much appreciated. I've just done as you've said and it's worked, hooray!
Now one more question if I may. At the moment, when I go and check for an update, it says "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available"
This is a pain, as I don't want to loose my root, but I want to be able to update I guess, anyway to bypass this?
Im afraid not. You can still update through kies I think, but youll lose root.
The choice is basically root or ota updates..
Easiest thing to do is flash any new firmwares using ODIN then reroot using CF Root..
Or use custom roms..

Fair enough, suppose we can't have it all!
So when the next Jellybean update comes out, I just download the firmware from SamMobile, and flash it via ODIN. Sounds easy enough!

There is a function in the Samsung Kies Called "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization" which is located in the Tools of the Samsung Kies 2.5.0.
Fill in the information it requires and follow the instructions.
It will repartition your phone and install the new pure firmware just like it is a new phone.

[Q] Can I flash XWLS8 on stock kernel?

So yeah, I would like to know if it is possible to flash it on stock 4.0.4, unrooted kernel with Odin. I seem to have a sane chip.
And can I do a backup using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840223 without tripping the flash counter, rooting or overwriting the stock recovery (so without any traces of doing so)?
yeah you can, odin / mobile odin (pro version will get you rooted while flashing)

It's a temporary recovery so does that mean it will be removed on the next boot and doesn't permanently replace the stock recovery or leaves any traces?
CMW? gone once you flash a stock ROM.
After that, you can flash it again and be able to restore the back up you made.

Apparently the backup worked, I got no triangle on boot and the recovery disappeared when I powered my phone off so everything went just how I wanted

Sane chip = off the hook.
Try flashing without wipping, if you get lag or issues than yeah, factory reset.

Ok, thank you for your help even though I'm a total noob! Oh, and is 12% battery enough for flashing since the phone should be charging while it is connected to the PC?
