Gmail CONSTANTLY freezing & closing! - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I've had this issue since I've gotten ICS. Every time I open up Gmail it will refresh and then when I press a message it will hang and close. Its the most frustrating thing in the world! I tried reinstalling it but nothing works. I cleared the app data and still, I get the same issue. Please tell me there is a fix for this thing besides a factory reset (which I think I already tried a while ago).

I am having similar problems with Gmail. First Google+ then Gmail. Hmm what company writes those apps... Everything else pretty solid after the upgrade.

I'm having the same issue in my TF201, version .15 of ICS.

bump because i'm having this issue and it is really pissing me off.
clearing cache and app data doesn't do anything. anyone have any ideas as to fixes, etc?
i'm tempted to download the gmail apk from here (http://goo-inside.me/gapps/) and install it to see if it will fix it.

do you by any chance have 'Force GPU rendering' enabled? That was the culprit for me.

Nope not anymore...I think uninstalling chrome may have fixed MANY of the bugs I was experiencing. If they all seem to be gone tomorrow, I'm definitely posting a PSA in the general section lol

I just stopped using the GMail app and had the general purpose Email app get my GMail. Just had to set my google account to not sync email to stop the notifications from popping up in both apps.
Problem solved.

Problem averted would be more correct here

I've been having the same issue for the past couple days. I have neither installed Chrome nor have I forced GPU rendering. I've tried clearing the cache and data with the same results. Next up is trying to reinstall the Gmail app.

So the latest update...
I downloaded Google Apps from the link a few messages up and tried to install just the Gmail.apk. That install failed. Not sure why.
Next, I used Titanium Backup to restore Gmail after I again cleared the data and cache. This seems to have worked and I had no FCs last night.
Hopefully this helps.

I'm thinkin' more like circumvented

Having the same problem Constant crashes. Can barely manage to read one email before it crashes and sometimes not even one.

I've been having this problem for days now. I turned off force gpu and I was able to get thru like 2 emails before it crashed. I'm getting sick of it, and nothing I do can fix it.

super clean D101 fc errors fix

ok, after a few trys at different things i now can say that by disabling the autosync feature, the Fc errors will stop, just go to settings, accounts and sync, then just check off autosync.
I haven't had a single fc since the update. Lucky I guess..

Very lucky. I had to return the phone and get another new one. It forced the update. signal sucks.

mmmmm i went back to my previous backup, i like the syncing feature, woithout it i dont get up to the minute emails, twitts etc. i will better wait for a more stable rom
Having these FC's as well, as a result of syncing in this ROM, just flashed it yesterday. Tried deleting all user data, doing the permissions fix, and clearing all caches, using Clockwork, didn't help. Also setting up any account to sync like facebook/twitter/myspace, fails during the "Loading..." section after you specify your account info, with the same force close. Any way to fix this? I like this ROM a lot other than this, it's the only problem I really have with it.
that is the pro blem, is a nice rom but the onli way to fix it is to turn the autosync off, and if you can live without accounts syncing, go ahead that will fix it

Try the new one he just posted, should fix the random and sync related FC's, the fix, fixed them on my phone so we should be good now.

Market totally crap?

So my market has been abysmal recently. Most of the time downloads fail and now when I try to install something I click install and it just gets stuck on loading. Already rebooted and cleared data.
Why is this happening and is there amy way to fix?

Factory reset usually fixes it but um try finding an apk to the old market and pushing it to /system/app. Maybe thatll help
I'm going to have to do that. This sucks

clearing cache works for me but its a pita. With the amount of complaints going on you would think it'd be fixed by now. At least I can see all my apps.

I've found that uninstalling updates from the application manager fixes all of my 3.1.5 woes. It will eventually update back to current release, but until the market is updated again, this is the best fix i've found.
Also, if you have more than one GMail account on your phone, go to 'my apps' and make sure you've got your main acct. set as the market acct.

same here. I clear it all the time and the uncheck admob, just because. My market hangs all the time and sometimes will not show my apps installed.
Has this been strictly on wifi? I'm having the same symptoms in the market but I've narrowed it down to my wifi being garbage and not holding a connection for any app.
I'm still having the problem today - and on the Sprint network, not WiFi. Other apps work fine, just Market sucks.
Same issue here. Market hangs & won't update apps sometimes. Other times shows an update available but there won't be. Really annoying.
Yep, I've been having market issues since the new market. It really is a pain.
The new market blows chunks, I pushed the old one back. It works well and shows what it needs to show.
I installed the new 3.2.0 market on my Flyer (gotta have root, and the Photon not rooted(yet)). And I haven't had a single problem. It's pretty freakin' sweet. I have I'll post the link in a sec...

Same here. To fix my problem, I used titanium backup to freeze the marketupdater.apk and then uninstalled the market updates from the applications menu. Now I am on the old market and all is well. I am wondering if the new market (version 3.2) fixes all these problems??

Gmail, Maps, Calender Crashes... It's been months and I couldn't solve this

Has anyone else encountered this issue? I've been trying to solve it by clearing cache, wipe and replace the ROM. But nothing.
Here's the problem (you may mute, my roommates are loud and make no sense)

Nope, I think every one still got that. The only temporary solution is to reboot. But I have seen it happen then too.
Best to wait a few years till NVidia/ASUS can sort this out... (the coming update is suppose to address this, but my hunch is it wont be a complete fix).

I actually solved this:
The behavior is caused when you terminate the Gmail app via the recent app menu.
The app does not appear to handle that case gracefully (shame on you Google). I've tried everything before (resetting, rebuilding Davlik cache, etc.) and nothing worked. But, ever since I've stopped killing the app via the recent app menu, the problem has completely ceased.
Every once in a while I do it by accident and there's a 100% chance that it will crash on a subsequent use when that happens.
Ok, at least I'm not alone. Sometimes it works, but 70% of the times I can't even read an email.

I would assume that a task killer app (including the asus one) could cause the same behavior.
Have you actually tried Factory Resetting?

Stock rooted .28. A reboot helped Gmail for me but not Hotmail. That errs saying it couldn't open a connection with the server and hasn't updated my Hotmail since the 13th.
I was also getting Gmail closing repeatedly rendering it useless before the reboot.

I have had the same problem. Mostly after I have played a game that uses a lot of RAM or after a high uptime. Closing all apps using a taskmanager (which I normally don't use) helped in 7 out of 10 tries but for the other 3 times I have had to do a reboot.
I have had this problem the last time roughly a week after I updated to .28 (I'm on a rooted stock too), but gmail hasn't crashed ever since.
i used to have this problem a lot. i also had the problem where my homescreen widgets would keep disappearing. Getting rid of teh homescreen gmail and email widgets (where you can see a folder ie inbox) solved my problem of the widgets. might also have solved the gmail closing issue as well. at least i haven't experienced it much since.
hope this helps!
I have this problem, just started yesterday. No mater how many reboots or using task manager get errors. Finally just got another app from market to use for email. Rooted running miui

I used to have this problem. Now it's gone since I rebooted and don't kill the GMail app using the Ice Cream task manager (or another one).
By the way, setting the limit of background processes to 4 or something else in development options, leads to the same as the system ends finishing the gmail app process.
I found a solution for my Hotmail account not syncing, not able to connect to the server. This thread has info from Spoutinwyze that got me going. Here is what he said.
>manual setup, >choose "exchange" >edit username to be <name>@hotmail.com >change server to "debug-m.hotmail.com"

I still have this problem after 6 months of owning my Prime. Gmail crashes incessantly. Completely useless. Beyond frustrated at this point. I did an RMA, paid $50 to mail it, got it back with absolutely nothing done to fix the problem. They say I can send it in again, and this time they will pay the shipping. Guess I will do it. No idea what else to do at this point. Maybe they will replace it and give me one where this doesn't happen?

I have the same problem, but it is sometimes resolved (more often them not a) by clearing the memory using the Asus task manager widget. I use it every time before accessing mail and that seems to make it more stable.

possible fix....
I only use gmail so i dont know if this will fix the other mail applications, but... I too had the force closes with gmail and I found a fix.
Open up gmail and quickly go to the settings section. from there go to the gmail account/s and change the days of mail to sync setting. I put mine at 15 days, but i haven't experimented with anything higher. all i know is that it worked and crashes completely stopped after that.
so i am assuming it has something to do with memory handling or something like that. I am not a dev or anything, but just seems like a possibility.
I do not have any email Widgets. I have cleared data and cache countless times. Factory resets after every firmware update. Cold reboots. Changed sync to 15 days. Nothing works. Constant crashes with opengl out of memory errors in the logs. Submitted multiple bug reports to google and Asus. No response from google. Useless Rma from Asus. Don't know what else to try

Exchange Email Issues on Liquid ICS

I'm having an issue with the latest Liquid ICS ROM (with working data), regarding the stock email app. I have it setup to my exchange account, and I receive the notifications / see the emails as they arrive, however none of the message boy (text) displays when i tap to open the email. Are there any fixes for this?

Using TB, I cleared the data for both the email and exchange apps and re-setup my exchange account. It is working properly now.
Don't have 10 posts yet, huh? Can't post in the developer's forum?
Yeah, me too.
I had the same problem specifically with gmail. The body of the message would show up for a split second and then disappear.
This was posted in the Liquid/ICS thread. The responses so far have been kind of vague since it isn't a universal problem.
Try wiping cache and dalvik and rebooting.

I also found that stopping both the cached processes and running processes for either gmail or exchange fixes the issue and is an alternative that doesn't require recreating your accounts every time.

I tried doing what you said and it did not change anything for me. What ksheth2130 said though about ROM Manger did get my emails to go, just not my contacts or calandar.
Edit: I may have to try to reflash because the fixed permissions trick hasn't worked for me since the first time.
I encountered this same issue with my Gmail and Exchange the first time I flashed this ROM at the start of the week. Force-closing the apps or clearing the data didn't resolve it for me, nor did removing my Exchange account and readding it. I resorted to reformatting and reflashing the ROM, and the problem hasn't been back since.
