Why wait for Alpharev when you can easily root with Teamwin.

Hoping for s-off
I hope the developers would take this matter into consideration although (if) there are not a lot of users with hboot 1.49.0011 s-on users out there...
I just got a new 3d as a replacement for my EVO 4G. I'm looking through the dev section and I'm a lil confused about the cdma and gsm sections? I thought sprint was cdma? Help please...thanks in advance.

the CDMA section is for you..
If you just got the E3D you probably have HBoot 1.50 so you need to HTC unlock it to root and install roms...if you are lucky to have something in the 1.49.xxx then use revolutionary for a full S-Off
only difference is that you cannot flash splash screens with HTC unlock & to flash kernels and radios is a pain, with S-OFF no restrictions
Ok. Thanks very much. I just put it in bootloader and it said I had 1.4.

wow you are very lucky, people would kill to have that lol your life is 28213829332 times easier now.
http://revolutionary.io/
I have GSM so im not sure what is good and not but i know for sure 1.50 is doomed....go on that site and follow the directions (pick your devuce, insert serial, etc..) and in the drop down box hope your Hboot is there
good luck !
I think only 32 times easier. 1.5 is not that bad.
I'm having to come over via insurance and the 3d is what I get. I have a few questions. Is obtaining root on the 3d a difficult process, as doing it on the 4g was simple. Ive noticed that there are 2 different models. CDMA or the other one which one is the one being given out. And overall how has everyones experience been with this phone. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

If your hboot is 1.4, you can root with Revolutionary. If it's 1.5, you will have to use the hboot downgrade method, found in the stickies.

If you're on Sprint, you have the CDMA version.
It isn't hard at all, if you understand adb. You can root with revolutionary on hboot 1.4 or downgrade if you have hboot 1.5. If you dont want to downgrade try the juopunutbear tool for s-off. It work the first try for me.

You can also go to HTCDEV.COM. They are very good in helping you unlock your bootloader

Welcome bud, I also got an evo 3d through insurance. Although I think the 4g had a better camera and I miss the looks, the 3d is a lot faster and has a much better screen. I've learned to love it.
Easiest way to do things is follow the htcdev.com unlock process to unlock the bootloader. Install superuser of course, then get 4ext recovery. There is a free version but I would highly recommend getting the paid version as I think it includes the app that lets you control everything from outside recovery. This has a smart flash feature for those who're left with s-on from the HTC unlock and hboot 1.5. It will let you install kernels like you normally would through recovery.
Only problem is, with any sense 3.6 ICS Rom you will have to use chads HTC leak kernel or else you will get boot loops. However 3d and USB mount won't work but you can always mount through recovery.
If you don't want to deal with all that, you can try the wire trick method to get s-off on hboot 1.5 so you can use the stock kernel on sense 3.6. It's stickied here in development. Hope all that helps.

Don't misinform. I'm using stock HTC 3.0.16 kernel. Boots perfectly.
EDIT: Didn't read that last part. The reason people were getting boot loops, I believe, was the outdated adsp.img.

Looks like you don't have hboot 1.5 and are s-off...that's why. I was going under the assumption that every 3D is coming with hboot 1.5, and has for a while since I got mine back in november with 1.5.
So did they finally run out of the og evo? They are replacing them with 3d's

Yea I got my 3D 6 mths ago for replacement for the 4G.
Welcome to 3D land. I've been happy with mine and still love this phone.

I think so.
But what I think is funny is that sprint still sells the og, but not the 3d.

The thing about the 3d is that its a way better phone than 4G. Except for camera of course. But I think all the 3d's come with S-on and H-boot 1.5. HTCDEV really helped me out. When u root, try WarmTwoPointThree ROM. Even faster loadup time and comes with beats audio
Thanks for the feedback.. Im not going to lie. I love my ole evo but the last time I dropped it Did something to the Battery. I have a 3500 ex battery that if in the phone it will shut off every 10 to 20 mins. that and the charging port is failing. At least I get another HTC.
Hi guys,
Just to make sure, I have searched and googled but can't see the trees through the woods anymore... :screwy:
I like my 3d capabilities, I like sense 3.6 but I just want more control over my EVO and be able to flash some of the great stuff available here to improve my phone.
Do I need s off or unlocked bootloader? I have hboot 1680007 or similar, ics ..
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda app-developers app
U need unlock to flash other roms, gain root, etc
S-off is needed for kernels with aroma and non sense (aosp, aokp, miui, etc) roms, at least to flash them that easy as sense roms, because u would have to flash the kernel with adb without s-off...
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda app-developers app
Ok, so unlock will do fine for what I want.. with my hboot version, which is the easiest way to go and unlock?
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda app-developers app
If its enough for u to flash sense roms unlocking should do fine for you
Htcdev is one possibility to unlock, i dont know if there is another way for ur hboot, never saw that one
You have the official 4.0 update, or?
I think in that case Htcdev is the only way...
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda app-developers app
Yes, I have the latest update, either downgrade hboot or htcdev it is, I guess ... Thnx !

Thanks for the reference but the model in his signature is a GSM version so I think he would do better following one of the guides in the stickies of the GSM development forum.
ramjet73
oops my bad sorry gotta bad hangover
This is the guide you need. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743466
I must ask, are you sure your hboot isn't 1.49 or 1.53? Those are the only two hboot versions I ever heard on gsm.
Anyway follow the unlock method through HTC dev. However the links for control bear on the guide are dead. Just go to unlimited.io website and get the control bear from the shooteru section based on os, hboot, and computer your using.
Hello! Everytime I have trouble with my phone or other devices, I come to these forums because everybody is always so helpful. Thank you for that!
Anyways,
Recently, weird white blemishes have been appearing on my HTC Evo V from Virgin Mobile, and I think it's because I dropped it. I was planning on returning it to get a replacement, but then remembered that I have an unlocked Bootloader and I'm rooted. I know this means my warranty is probably voided, but is there any way I could lock the Bootloader and restore it so I can, in a way, "Un-void" my warranty? I heard there are some ways to do this but I'm not sure. Help is needed, thank you everybody!
Specs:
HTC Evo V 4G
Virgin Mobile
Rooted
S-ON
**UNLOCKED**
Currently running Midnight ROM
Since you have status s-on there is no way to change unlocked to locked..
First u must make wiretrick or revolutionary to gain status s-off then u can change yor bootloder to locked.
