Just got my Rezound about a week ago, and this is the FIRST HTC Android phone I have ever had. First unlocked phone as well!
I have experience with Moto phones and the .sbf process and what not and am pretty good with adb, but still a noob.
Questions is, found this RUU from the dev section: RUU_Vigor_VERIZON_WWE_1.02.605.6_Radio_RS_0.95.00. 1013r_3161E_9K_NV_8k_1.12_9k_1.83_V_APT_release_22 1502_signed.exe
Is this the latest official RUU? I noticed by looking at the numbers vs my software version and it seems the baseband is off, so, If I flash this, this will return me to complete stock, will I be able to update my baseband via OTA Software update?
Thanks everyone.
You should be able to run the ruu on a pc and restore it to how it was out of the box. First you do have to re lock it though

I know how to run it, just want to make sure that the ones posted are for one official and if the baseband is slightly off by a few versions if doing an OTA update will update it. The latest RUU that I can find (here on XDA) looks like it has a different baseband than what came on the phone.
And yes, re-locking before the RUU flash is a must.
I have not yet taken the plunge to unlock my runs-hot Rezound, but I had a question brought on by seeing how prolific Nils is with his releases.
I know the initial unlock wipes the phone. I also know that you cannot run a RUU to save your butt in an emergency if your phone is unlocked. From this, it makes sense to unlock, flash your rom, relock. If you have an emergency, you can RUU, and that is probably a real good way to be.
But this leaves me wondering ... anyone know if a subsequent unlock from a re-lock wipes the phone as well (because THAT would be a pain if you wanted to update a ROM).
Thanks!

1. I think you can RUU with unlock.
2. Yes. You would have to wipe.
Thanks!

Thanks for the answer! I guess its a tough decision to have to make because I am 99.9999999999999999999999999999% sure (from reading XDA very carefully and constantly) that you CANNOT run a RUU (from a PC) if your phone is in the unlocked state; meaning if you really bork it, you are stuck if you left it unlocked.

Are you GSM or CDMA?
I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to accomplish, but if your phone is the CDMA model and you've never unlocked your bootloader you can get S-OFF and then root without unlocking the bootloader using the Revolutionary method in closeone's thread in the stickies of the CDMA development forum. Some people have even gotten it to work with the Sprint ICS (2.89.651.2) build installed, but it requires "bricking" the phone twice.
OTOH, the JuopunutBear S-OFF method resets the bootloader status from "unlocked" to "locked" so there is no indication on the phone that you ever did the HTC unlock, and that works for both GSM and CDMA.
It sounds like you've already done some homework so you must have a specific reason for wanting to do it another way?

i forgot to mention, my bad. I have GSM. I didnt want to loose warranty because of the official method, but if you say that there is a way to revert it (i thought they would keep record of me unlocking phone but i dont really know), then it would be ok to unlock it that way. Also i wanted to know if ther is easy and fast way to make root/temp root so i could only do a backup.

If you htcdev unlock, HTC will know that you requested a token, but not whether you actually unlocked or not. I'm not sure how they handle that for the purpose of warranty claims, but maybe someone else here has experience with that.
Regarding temp root, it's possible, but not on the the ICS releases since HTC has patched the vulnerablility used for the "tacoroot" method. I've also heard that the phone is very unstable while temp rooted and sometime won't boot. You might be better off using a tool like MyBackup Pro that doesn't require root and has a 30 day trial with full functionality.

well thank you very much for all your help i think ill try htcdev unlock method
Ok, i am on ATT 4.4.2 with unlocked bootloader/S-OFF/Rooted/TWRP
i am still on stock rom, if i do the update, will my phone still be S-OFF (firewatered) and will i be able to unlock the bootloader?
Youll need stock recovery regardless to accept an OTA,unlocked and s-off is fine,to be safe I would unroot before taking any OTA, some say its not necessary but I dont leave things up to chance

So i have tried searching, but i keep reaching dead-ends or answers that have no details what-so-ever.
Im on t-mobile, and can get an unlocked ATT M8... what would i need to do to get that m8 as close to a stock t-mobile m8 as possible? can i just bootloader unlock and then just flash a t-mobile RUU? is it safe to do that to radios aswell, or would that break it? Also, is there any way to get it so far into a t-mo m8 that it can get t-mo software updates?
also, i understand there is no aws HSPA on the att variant, but im in a refarmed area, and get good LTE coverage, so i should be fine there.
as far as I am concerned all i need to to do is...
-Unlock Bootloader (which i understand costs $25 now... anyway around that?)
-Root
-S-off
-Flash Stock T-mo RUU
-change CID to T-mo...
and thats it? in that order?
You may be able to run the T-Mob RUU with the proper CID and MID. But you may need to S-off as well. Relocking the bootloader is required to run any RUU, if S-on.
Unlocking the bootloader doesn't cost anything. Its Sunshine s-off that costs $25. So you might try to unlock the bootloader, root, change CID and MID, then relock the bootloader and see if the T-Mob RUU will run, before paying for Sunshine S-off.
Running the RUU will put the T-Mob radios on your device. It won't break anything. All M8's actually have the same hardware, so installing software for another version is safe. In fact, you should also gain support for T-Mob's HSPA network by flashing T-Mob's RUU.

Change MID too. I did this on the M7, no reason why it won't work on the M8. Everything worked perfect including Wi-Fi calling. Unlocking bootloader is free via HTCDEV, not sure about S-Off, I did it with Firewater for free, but maybe that doesn't work anymore?

Yes, both T-Mob RUU and modified hboot should be fine if you are s-off.

You'll get the T-Mob bands by flashing the proper radio, yes. But you won't get official T-Mobile OTAs (just by flashing the radio) if that is the goal.

I have to plead ignorance on that one. I believe GPE is intended to be fully compatible with AT&T's network, but is the same true for T-Mobile? If so, then yes doing the GPE conversion should give you the T-Mob bands, as well as allow you to get GPE OTAs.

Okay thanks for your help. I was going to sell my phone and try a g3 or one plus one. Do you think I could get away with selling it as a T-Mobile m8? If I flash the hboot, ruu ,T-Mobile ROM and all that is there any other way they could find out its originally a att model ? I know the back housing has the logo engraved but i was going to replace it with one that doesn't have that. Not just for that reason but because i also have some dents on mine.

Why would you do such a thing? You would also have to change the MID, CID, and it might still be linked to AT&T somehow. Seems like a lot of effort, and I don't see much reason for it. Why not just sell it as an AT&T model, since it is?
Also, changing the housing is not that easy. You might mess up the phone cosmetically and do more harm than good; unless you know you are good at such replacements. Again, seems like a lot of work for nothing.
I haven't done much rooting/flashing in a while and just got an M8 that I need to move to a Tmob RUU. Currently on the ATT RUU.
From what I gathered, I need:
- Download Latest Tmob RUU
- unlock bootloader
- Change CID (MID also?)
- relock bootload
- run Tmob RUU
Is the above correct? Will I never get OTA updates? It seems that s-off and/or root is required for CID/MID changes, is that correct?

Once you are "fully converted" by RUU, you should get OTAs.
Not sure about needed s-off to change CID and MID, but I think you are correct that s-off is needed.
Thanks for the quick reply - I managed to get s-off along with the CID and MID updated. Thankfully Firewater worked for me after the 3rd bottle
Now I just need to flash the stock Tmob RUU and get the proper radios, then perhaps flash one of the lightly modded Tmob RUU.
Or can I skip the 'stock Tmob' RUU and just flash something like htc_m8_1.57_DEODEXED_InstallerFix.zip and still get the radio+OTA?
