is there any way to increase quality of st 15's camera, size of capturing picture is also low(is it possible to mod like older se java phones),also I want to increase sound without wheezing

mine was okay ..and it's not the sound ..the mini volume are much less lower ..you get what you buy with that cost ..

[Q] Can we improve the sound quality on live concerts?

hi,
i came from an iphone4, and the only thing im missing on SGS2 is quality of sound captured on live concerts. Iphone 4 does a pretty good job on this area.
Can we improve the capture of sound, cause records with a lot of distortion. Put him like an iphone4?
tks

Get the "TapeMachine" app and experiment with the 2 different microphones and the gain.
Beyond that, it's mostly a hardware limitation.

It looks like TapeMachine only increases gain and doesn't decrease it
well, tks for the answers.
but im talking about the sound captured with the camera, small clips on video, but if is hardware limitation there's nothing we can do.
EDIT:
i saw that
Anyone tested this on live shows?
Have you tried the Hx Camera Mod? The sound after replacing the camera.apk is much better! But you need root!
Go to the android development forum for gt-i9100.there u gonna find a.post by potatoman for replacing the stock camera app.aftr replacing u get to record videos i at 192 kbps frm d stock 64 kbps and the audio quality of videos is highly increased.though u need root for it.
PS-Am taking it that u wanna increase the sound quality of videos coz who records conerts in audio only format :-D

I'm having the same problem, while filming. The audio is over saturated on loud volumes as the audio input seems way too loud. I wish there was a way to decrease gain.
I wonder if a better audio quality encoding is going to help if the recorded sound is already distorted... it might even make things worse.
Anyway, please let us know.
Virtual Recorder does a quite good job whilst I record my band's rehearsing. We play freaking loud but VR has got a preamp control so it may work well on live gigs as well.
in the market search for VirtualRecorder
Hope this helps.
chalger
Whilst my mod does improve audio recording quality, it doesnt really do it with this situation in mind. The gain is left stock, just the encoder settings changed. This means all you'll get in concerts is a higher quality recording, but still distorted because of the gain.
All I can suggest is to try some of the recording apps on the store (I Like VirtualRecorder and Tape Machine, VR has a control but I havent tested at a concert yet) , you are correct when you thought gain control would fix it. The mic on the SGS2 is very small and sensitive, so it distorts lots when recording extreme volumes. Turning the gain down would therefore help.
Good luck with your search, I hope you like and continue to use my cameramod anyway

Hey Potatoman, im using your mode now, and is awsome. Good Work. Lets see on live show this weekend. I will post some videos on youtube after.
Can you tweak the mod with an option to reduce the gain? Or do it automatic like the iphone? Just a though to an update.
Tks
Regrettably the section I modded didnt have anything for gain, and even if it did it would mean when you try to film normal settings with the video camera it would be too quiet. Plus, it's not really feasible to swap out the APK every time you want a different gain, so I dont think my mod method would be suitable even if it was possible.
Who knows though, maybe the distortion was just low quality files, in which case yay I fixed it without trying ^_^'
I go to Dream Theater concert on Sunday, and make a few recordings to test qith the your mod Potatoman.
I will post here the videos after.
Tks for the reply
Thank you Chalger and Potatoman. TapeMachine only increases gain (from 0.3dB to 20dB). VirtualRecorder has an auto gain mode - a preamp auto gain mode - but actually nothing to decrease gain.
Anyway, like Bananaz, I am trying to find a way to get less distortion when using the camera. I am looking forward to hearing about Bananaz' concert... I do hope Potatoman's great cameramod will make things better.
Why don't you try just watching the concert instead of making low quality shaky recordings of it that nobody but yourself wants to see. I can guarantee you that 95%+ of the people standing behind you at the concert while you're recording want to take your glowing, distracting, irritating square of light and ram it firmly into one of the holes on your body.
Just a suggestion.
Edit: in fact that's a great idea for a camera mod. A button that allows you to turn off the screen but still record video. I've seen a couple of occasions where someone has grabbed a camera being held up in their face by the inconsiderate idiot in front of them, and then thrown it across the venue, accompanied by cheers from the rest of the crowd. A mod might save someone losing their phone...

Camera: No picture detail setting?

I've been struggling with the SK17 picture quality. I've been very underwhelmed, the nr is very heavy handed and in general even under the best light conditions produces low quality pictures.
Then it dawned on me, there must be a picture fineness setting. Meaning, how much detail do you want the camera to capture. I had this thought after reviewing a number of pictures. None of them are greater than 1MB in size. A high quality jpg image will be up to 1.5MB in size.
Maybe Sony could add a fineness setting for the jpg capture?
A few other things I've found just by obervation.
Lowest ISO looks to be 64
Highest ISO 800
fastest shutter 1/1250
Note, not the easiest thing to get these values, as EV and sports mode need to be engaged.
Mike
this is the worst ever camera phone i ever had. videos are lacking in detail. we don't know if it will be rectified in the coming 2.3.4 update?
Yeah, not the best camera for non-bright conditions.
I installed an original gingerbread camera for some other Xperia device with the same sensor but modded to work for Mini Pro. And took some shots for comparison with the highest quality settings (Super Fine) on the original one. File sizes were about 30% larger but with no very little to no differences so i stuck with the Sony's one.
They're coming up with some camera tweaks for new update so maybe they'll manage to improve this aspect although i doubt it.

I hope they can come up with some improvements. Hopefully software can get better quality. The picture quality is even poor with very good lighting.
Something to note, the lens is rather small, I compared it to the C905a Exif data. the C905a is outfitted with a 6mm lens, the one in the Minipro is 4mm. That's a 33% difference in size!
I don't know the size of the W580i lens, it didn't come out in the EXIF data.
Mike
Maybe im not a demanding camera user but daylight photos look good enough for me, although they probably can be improved via software.
Only thing that i'd like to see improved is low light photos but i dont think software can help much there. Its much more dependant on sensor size.
We'll see.

You're right, at the end of the day it's the sensor size/quality.
I'm assuming the camera is doing a lot of internal processing. NR as well as compression. Hopefully, they can do something about reducing both.
As you say, if the sensor isn't up to the task, it won't matter.

And this shows on the pricetag/targeting ads..

Well its the smallest and cheapest of them all so corners had to be cut somewhere.
Theres also the segmentation of products that you mentioned but every single manufacturer does it.
We all wish it was a bit better but its not 'crap'. And daylight pictures are decent.
Edit: Check out this comparison. Load up mini pro and arc and you'll see that Arc isnt actually that much better even though its 8mpix and device itself is highend-ish. Also load up Galaxy Ace which has 5mpix, it blows mini pro and arc out of the water. Same goes for xperia neo. 2011 Xperia phones have had sup bar cameras it seems. They all have the same imperfections, not much differences between them. http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=3&idPhone1=3713&idPhone2=3724&idPhone3=3619

Nice find! Looks like there are 2 main issues that make me unhappy with the PQ.
1: Is the noise reduction pattern, it looks to have a blotch pattern to me. It's not a pleasant constant grain like the iPhone 4.
2: Dynamic range looks pretty poor.
I think both of these could be due to the NR and compression algo. It would be nice if Sony would provide something better, or if it could be fixed via software.
It's a shame the test chart didn't provide better real world fine detail examples. I like to look at hair for this type of test and apparently that sample photo of the girls isn't helpful since the DSLR cameras didn't show good detail in that area.
However, it does give a feel for just how good of a job the camera can do.

Its a midrange/entry level phone ffs. Dont compare it with iphone4.
Its not on the same planet.
And a compression algo is indeed controlled via software. Same with nr. Stuff that SE finetunes with firmware updates.
Now, enjoy what you get for the money or buy the Arc S.

Well, the iphone4 comparison isn't appropriate, but I started the thread because I was surprise that my old SE W580i produced better photos, take resolution into account. It also has a setting for normal vs. fine level detail, I was surprised to find the Mini Pro doesn't have that option.
I think the mini pro has room for improvement...

I agree, all phones have their short comings, I just don't like it when a phone is gimped, meaning the hardware is able, but the software lack of features or bugs get in the way...

I tried some of the 3rd party cameras, 360 camera and lgcamera. Similar results, not noticeable PQ improvement and much larger files 3x in some cases.
Yet I'm not convinced these programs have full control of the camera. Wondering how the sensor RAW image is processed by the camera to produce a jpeg ect...
BTW, how did you determine which sensor is in the camera?
Mike
I find the quality to be very good. It's a digital camera afterall, dont expect magic on a 200€ device.
If u guys take still pic's in daylight , then HDR cam+ takes some awesome shots

Try to use lgcamera...more options, you´ll find it in the market
To be honest i have a pretty good experience with my Active's camera. I had it mounted on my ski boot, and inside the strap (which adds another layer of plastic, making it a bit more blurry). I must say i was impressed.

Any tips how to get decent low light camera shoots. Every camera shoot I take it becomes blurry.
Turn image stabiliser on and in low light use one of the night modes. Only disadvantage is you can take steady pictures (nobody moves and you don't move camera). But people have to bear in mind, it is camera phone, not proper digital camera, where you have 10 other options to use, like shutter timing.
This video was taken in auto mode..

Camera is good no doubt but coming from xperia Arc , I expected more. Image quality is nearly identical to Arc and looses up against '8MP' Iphone 4S camera in terms of sharpness and colours from the pics I saw over the internet. I do not understand why are they not proving Xenon flash. It would have made camera even more useful. Somehow I feel Sony is not trying its best. Potential is there to make a perfect phone but Sony fails to deliver the killing punch. And this is coming from Sony lover

Had a similar experience between the C902(5MP) to X10(8MP) where the resolution went up the actual picture quality is equal or lower.

How to Improve Low Light Pictures on Xperia S

The Camera of Xperia S performs very good durind daylight conditions but at night the pictures seems to have a bit noise. Although there's no focussing problems now. I use Stock Camera app and sometimes Camera 360 for taking pics. Can u all suggest me some good apps/settings to reduce noise in low light/night pictures as well as to improve overall picture quality!

Try UCam and just play with settings. Don't use auto settings. Its working for me.

Put a big flash on it and increase the sensor size, that's the only way.
I just wanted to ask the same question, the primary reason that I bought this phone is due to its camera ..tho the stock app kind of disappointing and seems the rom doesn't really fully take advantage of the camera itself..

sensation is way better but battery might be a problem
Good screen, but viewing angle and contrast are not the best
Still camera does well, though 8MP perfection is out of reach
Video camera is okay for casual users and records great audio, videophiles will find some faults
Performance is generally good
Web browser needs to be optimized
Good loudspeaker performance
Better output audio quality not than the lww
Good battery life for watching videos, but web browsing drains it too fast

Of course its worth it. Better CPU, bigger ram, bigger battery capacity, higher screen resolution and size, kernel 3.x.
Although I can't say the same for audio quality. I got many friends that use android. Nexus s, galaxy nexus, HTC one s, HTC one x, galaxy s 2, galaxy s 3, galaxy note, xperia go, among that I remember and played with. None of them can beat lww sound quality, from speaker or headset. Dual stereo speaker ftw
currently using both phones yes htc sense worth but u have sacrifice sound quality:fingers-crossed::highfive:
