Hello,
I have a galaxy ace and I have managed to change the wpa_supllicant driver in order to connect to ad-ho wi-fi networks. I am using connectify on windwos xp to setup the connection (the connection looks ok because I have tested it with my laptop and I can connect and browse websites without any problems.) However, on my phone, after I connect and search something in google, it loads the search results(even images)but it doesn't allow me to go to the websites from the search results. I have received the following error: "the server failed to communicate try again later". Does anyone know where the problem could be? Why can't I browse normal websites but I can browse the search results.

I have looked all over the internet, both on this site and through google, I even shot over to howardforums for a few. I know I saw the solution somewhere, but all my searches are filled with bbc connection probs, not internet connection probs. Heres whats going on... I have the TNT2 rom, I changed the aku version in my registry to .3.7.1 and installed Blackberry Connect 4.0.0.90. Everything there is working fine. The problem is that Internet Explorer will not work. I knew this was a possibility cause I read it on this forum somewhere. I installed Opera Mini browser and then my PC crashed and I lost my bookmark that showed how to make it connect through blackberry connect. Does anyone have the link to the page that shows how to get it to share the existing BBC connection instead of it trying to create its own? Or know how to do it? I went to Start>Settings>Connections>Advanced>Select Networks & changed both dropdowns to My Blackberry, then went to the MidLet manager and set the network on Opera Mini to My Blackberry, and it gives me this error...
Error
Failed to connect to the Internet.

java.io.IOException: null
Someone please Help!!!
Thanks.
I am running dcd 2.3.2 with radio 3.42.30. Everything was working great until late last week... my Internet Sharing suddenly stopped working. When I say 'stopped working' I mean that it is no longer allowing me to connect via USB to my PC to get internet access. The PC does see it and ActiveSync pops up and when I start Internet Sharing it appears to work, even providing a 192.168.0.10x IP address to the computer. However, it never actually gets 'out' from the phone. On my friend's Vista machine, the little globe never appears on the network icon in the system tray. I tried a hard reset, a couple times, without success. I even pulled the battery for a while to see if that would help. Tried different USB cables. Tried changing the IP from mobile preferred to mobile only. My friend's mogul flashed the same is working, mine just stopped. Any thoughts?
Edit: PIE works until I establish Internet Sharing. Internet Sharing says connected but I don't get out to the internet and PIE will not work giving some message about "Page can not be found" until I disconnect from Internet Sharing.
I have persevered through the issue and have found a solution. I assumed the problem was likely DNS related because I was connecting fine, it was simply not showing as on the ‘Internet’ in Windows Vista. Once I connected this way with my phone, I was unable to browse even using PIE as I would get an error indicating the page could not be found. A little searching and I came across this DNS ‘speed fix’ post over at ppcgeeks.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=18435
I followed the instructions to change the DNS server entries and I was then able to tether just fine. So apparently, DNS was the culprit. However, I am wondering now what my default DNS servers were. I don’t see anything other than 192.168.0.1 on my PC when I check ipconfig information. Is there a utility that I can load on the phone to see what DNS servers I am getting from Sprint?
I would like to see what my friend who is using Sprint and not having a problem is getting also. If it is a Sprint DNS issue, maybe I should let them know about it and what the specific DNS server(s) are that are affected.
Hello!
I'm frequently using Internet connection sharing (=Internet-Freigabe, I'm using german ROM) on the HD2 to enable internet on my laptop.
After installing MyMobiler 1.25 and Efficasoft Mobile Express v1.5.2 on my PC I found out that Internet connection sharing doesn't work correctly anymore. The following I found out:
- Internet connection sharing works only in about 1 per cent of my connection trials, most time I get 'unable to resolve hostname' in my browser.
- reboot of HD2 and/or PC does not always help, occasionally I can establish a connection but most time the PC can't resolve host name.
- earlier I could easily turn on off internet connection sharing by pressing connect / disconnect (= verbinden, trennen) in the internet connection sharing (=Internet Freigabe) application. This does not work anymore. When I press disconnect and later connect I always get unable to resolve hostname.
- I entirely removed both softwares on PC and PDA but this doesn't help
- error is not limited to HD2 device, it occures on a HTC TouchHD in connection with a different PC as well
- It seems to me that the Internet connection is not correctly forwarded to the pc, because the PDA itself can establish an internet connection correctly (mobile browser is on the internet)
Thank you for your help because I'm urgently using this feature!
Regards,

try changing your dns server on the pc, im not quite sure how you do this in windows. open dns have rock solid servers and there pretty secure too. not sure if that is your problem but its something to try. some mobile providers dns servers tend to be problomatic.

Hello veda_sticks!
Thanks for your reply!
How should I do this? I just plug-in my HD2 into my Notebook and get a selection menu on the HD2 where I can choose Internet connection sharing (out of 3 possible choices where the other 2 are Acive sync and use as HD drive). After pressing OK it works or it doesn't work.
I have recently purchased an LG Vortex (from what I read is Verizon Wireless's Optimus One) that comes with the Android 2.2 operating system installed. I have looked into rooting my phone with z4root and have successfully temporarily rooted my phone. I would rather keep my phone unrooted, but if it is absolutely necessary I will root it permanently with z4root.
My question is this: How can I connect to my company wifi and use apps that require wifi?
I can successfully connect to my corporate wifi through the 802.1x EAP protocol. The problem comes when trying to access any of the apps that require internet (I am forcing Verizon's data plan not to be used--using wifi only due to 150MB limit on my data to save $$ per month). None of my apps seem to work--internet browser, Market, Gmail, Google Calendar, etc...
On my company pc I know that within internet explorer the box is checked that says "Use automatic configuration script" and gives an "Address" that is in the format of "..../proxy.pac" It looks like my work uses a proxy for things to connect to the internet. I have no such place to put this information in my LG Vortex. I downloaded an app that seemed promising called "Proxy Settings" which will allow me to enter in the following Hostname and Port. When I tried to enter the "..../proxy.pac" as the hostname it gave me an error stating "The hostname you typed is not valid."
Is there an app or something that will allow me to use my apps when connecting to my corporate wifi? Is it a proxy setting thing or a VPN thing? I am not sure. I am open to any and every idea so that I can use my phone's online features while connected to my company's wifi.
FYI - I have friends that have iPod touches and they are able to connect to the internet with some apps internet browsing and downloading apps, but they have a similar issue of not being able to use all of their apps as well. I believe they were able to put the "..../proxy.pac" address in their devices somewhere.
Thanks!
I am a new member on this forum but I decided to reply because I have a question and a possible solution for you:
-solution:try to download the *.pac file. You will see that it is probably a script that defines your actual proxy's ip.So you could try and figure out which is your actual proxy's ip.Then use this ip for the proxy-app. (However I am afraid that only browser will connect properly, not every app)
-and now the question:how did you manage to connect to the network?I have trouble connecting because the wifi settings menu doesn't seem to help.
I try to connect to a 802.1x EAP network and I have installed the required certificates but I don't know what to fill to username, password fiels.

Hi. I bought a Lenovo Ideatab A 1000 today. I created a hotspot of my college proxy network using my laptop, and connected the tab to it. I can browse the internet on the tab without any issue, but when I try to open play store or any other google service, it asks me for my login details, and when i enter those and click next it displays - "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server ". Also i cannot open any https site from the browser (gmail etc ). But to my amaze, when I created a hotspot using my cellular data from my phone ( not a proxy network) , the play store issue gets fixed as long as I'm on that hotspot.
I googled a lot about this issue, and mostly it is mentioned to root the device and edit the hosts file. But I dont want to root my device on the first day itself. Please suggest some fix to get over this error. Thanks
P.S. my friends can access play store using the college proxy network on their android phones
