Thanks for the explanation and files xboarder56.
I have a problem here with an Amaze T-mobile, Hboot 1.90.004, it was bootloader unlocked and came with custom recovery. I flashed stock recovery using hasoon's all in one toolkit, and flashed stock 1.43 kernel before i relocked the bootloader. Now, the hboot checks the PH85IMG.zip on the sdcard but it doesn't ask whether if i want to update. I've triple downloaded files to sd card, changed sd cards thinking they might be corrupted but that wasn't the case.
What should i do to this Amaze to ask me if i want to update using PH85IMG.zip.
I tried both 1.36 and 1.43 ph85imgs, but no go...
Try 1.36 again

I tried many times, it checks the PH85IMG.zip but doesn't ask me if i want to update. What might be causing this ?
Try ota update first then 1.43 ruu

Any idea where I can find the OTA update?
If I understand this correct, I flash the stock rom, then apply the update to relock bootloader?

Great guide.
Question for noob's - could they unlock bootloader, then unroot, and then install ROM Manager and then let it install Recovery?
XBoarder - This is fantastic. A perfect summary of all the great work you and those helping you have done since the amaze came out. I speak for most when I say that I am very happy to see you still here and continuing all the hard work you have already put into these forums. I hope you continue to do your thing despite the actions of any one person. We need people like you here badly!
I've been lurking since day 1 and you continue to impress. This excellent guide and your amazing 1.1 have brought me over. I was a bit worried about buying a phone that hadn't even been rooted yet (I got mine on the first day) - thanks for making it worth it!

What they don't tell you is that you have to rename fastboot-mac to fastboot and go into terminal and set the permissions for fastboot for YOU to have access to. I spent about 3 hours last night dealing with this issue and am not on my laptop to give you direct link to instructions but if you google "how to get fastboot to work on mac" you should be able to find instruction on how to "sudo" fastboot.

Doesn't work... Tried that.... tried steps in the recovery specific thread too... what could I possibly getting wrong...
Does it matter I use WINraR?
I have just been copying the .zip over to the SD.
Via an adapter to card reader and by leaving it in the amaze and loading it.... NO LUCK
does a quick scan after hboot screen appears with no image listed under every heading if that helps
download it (dont even open it) just drag it on your sdcard put in phone reboot into hboot
Didn't see a thread for this even though I saw some discussions floating around.
http://www.filefactory.com/f/4ef0ef536face67a (Evo3D RUU repository) has the Rogers ICS update available in the RUU format.
RUU_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_Rogers_WWE_3.28.631.1_Radio_11.77.3504... is the file you are looking for. You end up with the Rogers ICS update after installing this.
Installing this wiped my Android install, but my internal memory (SD FAT) was untouched.
I updated from Gingerbread with S-OFF 1.49.1007 to this ROM successfully by renaming rom.zip to PG86IMG.zip into the internal 'SD' memory's root directory.
My CID was ROGERS001 to begin with, so I didn't have to make any changes for the RUU to install itself.
You can get this file by running the exe file from Windows and by looking in the temporary directory created by the setup utility.
If you type "%tmp%" into your 'Run' prompt from Windows, you will open the parent directory of the temporary directory where you can find this file.
I started from S-OFF and ended up with S-OFF but 'locked'. I finally did HTCDEV unlock after this, and ended up with S-OFF unlocked without having to do anything else.
This should be in general

Yep. Reroot using the sdcard method and everything should go back to normal. A system update breaks root as it modifies the /system/apps/ directory which is where superuser/google play are stored when rooting.
helpppppp
i was trying to reboot using that method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21895025&postcount=14

Instructions:
Download the packages listed in the download folder, and extract them to your desktop.
extract ALL the files from the single zip.
NOTE: Do not extract the .zip with superuser and su.
Open the image flasher .exe, and browse for the .img that you extracted from the same zip
Put your SD Card into your nook or reader, and select the drive letter from the drop down on the right.
Press write, and wait
Once it has completed open the SD Card from the Windows browser and place the .zip in the root of the SD card.
Turn your Nook off.
Turn your Nook on while holding both the N+Power button. Your device will turn on, and then turn off after holding it.
NOTE: Do not let go of either button until your device has powered on and off again.
Put the SD Card into your nook.
NOTE: If it is already in there eject it and then put it back in.
Power your Nook on normally.
You will see a picture of N on the screen followed by a box with a white background followed by CWM booting up.
Select flash update.zip.nothing like that on the menu
i have rebbot system, install zip from sd card and selecting YES goes to Installation aborted
what to do?
Select Select from SD card.
Select your .zip
Reboot device
NOTE: Remove the SD card after your device reboots as if you don't it will continue to boot from the SD card.
I think I'm having this same problem.

Hopefully, someone can help me with this, as I seem to be having a similar problem. I am familiar with how to root the nook tablet, and have done so already, but since then, I believe the firmware updated, breaking my root. I am afraid to do it again, because when I first rooted the tablet, a game on it didn't work properly, and only worked properly after the update. Will this new root process cause any existing games to stop working? And how do I then prevent future firmware updates from breaking my root, again?

I used Albert Wertz's method for rooting using an sd card, and had no problems, except that I didn't go as far as to block the OTA updates. Is it possible to have a custom recovery and stock recovery on the same device? How do I tell, and how do I safely install cwm, without being able to use Titanium Backup (since my root is now broken)?

No, there is one partition designated for recovery. You can run cwm from sdcard when you wish and keep stock recovery internal, but custom recovery is the only way I have seen that absolutely blocks otas (otas are blocked with custom rom also) if that is your concern. To tell about your recovery the only thing I can think of is the power and N key into recovery. If you read what is presented on the screen when it appears and refuse a reset you are safe, that takes care of stock, if you are nervous reread and take your time. For cwm if that is installed you will see a cardboard box flash and then a menu with the first item to reboot, that is also safe.
To get into either recovery (for looking) from power off press and hold power and N, after two seconds release power, after one or two more seconds release N also. That should do it.
If you wish to have absolutely what to click when you get stock recovery just wait a while and I'll come back and edit this post to reflect that info. At the moment have something else going on (NT) I can't stop.
Stock recovery shows Factory reset
do you want to reset your device to the factory default?
Press POWER key to exit
Press Home key to continue
press power and you are out and safe
Installing CWM recovery! There are now two apps(they require root) here on xda for that purpose, one is 16gig only (Nook Tab Recovery Flasher) by indirect the other is 8gig and I don't know who did it.
There are also flash zips for each and a flash zip that is both 8gig and 16gig. If you are 8gig make sure you choose one for 8gig
CWM sdcard with a flash zip does not require root.
Hello all, I have a Rooted, S-Off Sprint HTC Evo 4g LTE. I just updated the firmware to latest, then wiped the phones cache/dalvik cache/system/etc and tried installing 3.16.651.3 (latest afaik) which is stock/odexed/rooted. Phone will not boot past the "HTC Quietly Brilliant" screen. What do i do?
also just updated to TWRP 2.5.0.0
OK so I have TWRP 2.5.0.0 with both the latest firmware package and the latest software package on the root of my SD card. When I mount the sd card I can change the name of the packages to PJ75IMG.zip. Once I do that, I unmount the storage and reboot into bootloader and it says "no image or wrong image" for both the firmware package and the software package when they're clear as day properly named and in the proper location. IDK what to do to restore this phone. Its been wiped clean and as of now is as good as a paperweight. PLEASE HELP QUICKLY!
Do you have two PJ75IMG's on your external SD? You can only do one at a time.
Also, make sure you're not renaming them to PJ75IMG.zip.zip... Windows will sometimes hide extensions for known file types. So if windows knows its a .zip file, it won't show the .zip, and you'll rename it with a .zip at the end, and then windows will add another .zip....
Just a few things to consider...
What two files are you trying to install? I'm guessing firmware is one, but what's the other?
Also, are you sure your phone is S-off?
+1 to what was stated above. You can only install one PJ75IMG from the root of your SD card at a time, otherwise the installation will fail.

Hi.
I'm very new to the concept of hboot/rooting/etc. I'm trying to figure how to stop hboot from checking for new zip files on the sdcard, all it does it go through each possible zip file for the model of phone, and it then hangs when it gets after "nv.zip", which prevents me from going directly into the recovery.
The phone is a TMobile G2 (also called the HTC Desire Z), rooted, and uses CyanogenMod11 (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-desire-z/development/rom-cyanogenmod-11-0-nightlies-t2854386 (thanks to them for continuing the builds for my device )). Using HBOOT-0.76.2000 and is S-OFF.

You just have to remove any update zips from the SD card. The phone is made to check for that every time and you can't change this behavior, nor should you as you might need that function at some time to go back to stock or repair the phone.

It doesn't matter if you have zips there or not, it will scan the card for them. You just need to make sure nothing with the official RUU zip name can be there on the root of the card (PC10IMG.zip for the HTC Vision / G2 / Desire Z) and it will not try to load anything after scanning.
