Can anyone help with an infuriating text problem? When I start to type in any notepad app, although the cursor moves (sometimes to the right, often down a line or two or three first and then to the right) no text appears on screen. However, when I then exit the keyboard, the text miraculously appears. This only happens in notepad apps. My notepad of choice is "Note Everything", but I've now duplicated the problem in two other notepad apps. Im using Galaxy Note. Can anyone please offer any suggestions as to what might be going on here? Many thanks.

first try a soft reset (rebooting your phone)
then if that doesn't work backup using titanium backup and do a hard reset (wipe data)
have you tried using your hands instead of the stylus?

Many thanks.
Soft reset: Check.
Hard reset: That's drastic, especially as I only recentlty went though one. Hard resetting is never as straightforward as it's made out to be, I really would prefer to try other fixes first.
Stylus: I never use the stylus. Ever!

did the soft reset work?
if not you will have to do the hard reset. don't worry you can backup with titanium backup
after you backup with titanium just go to recovery and wipe data/ factory reset, then reboot, install titanium backup and restore all your apps.s easy as that

Soft reset has not worked, no.
And with all respect, I don't believe that a hard reset is the only remaining option. There's ab bug at work here and what I want to do is to track down and eliminate it. If I did a complete clone backup/restore that would just restore the bug as well, so an incremental restore would be necessary, and Tuitanium can't restore all the desktop widgets that are not able to be backed up, nor settings in various other programmes such as "Ringo Pro". There's still a lot of manual fiddling to be done following a hard reset. I'll hang on for a bit longer first for an alternative solution.
I sussed it! The notepad file was too long. Cutting down the length of the file completely solved the issue.
I use the clipboard constantly, but suddenly a couple days ago, when ever I click COPY (whether I'm in a memo, a browser, an ebook, ANYTHING), my tablet freezes, and I'm forced to reboot, to get it to work again. I tried a cleaning app to clear my cache, and it cleared cache in everything, but when I got to point of clearing the cache in the clipboard, that crashed the app. I contacted samsung tech support, and their only answer was to reset to factory default. Well, I'm a noob, and I had a very hard time rooting my tablet. 1. I don't want to undo that, and HOPE that I'm able to get it to root again. 2. I don't want to lose all my apps, photos, ebooks, videos, etc. The tech agent showed me how I could back up my videos and picture files to a computer. Well, I don't have a working computer right now. And if I did, isn't there a way, you can back up your apps, and app shortcuts and everything else, as well?
Even if I can back up everything, does anyone have any other ideas on how to maybe get my clipboard to work again, without starting over? I can't live without my copy and paste.
Thanks in advance.

Boot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache ( dalvik is under advanced settings ) ... Reboot.. Should be good to go. If that doesn't work let me know.. I know another way but its a little more involved.. As far as backups go Titanium Backup is the best..

Thanks so much for the reply. I wiped the cache in recovery mode, but I can't find any advanced setting when in recovery mode, to wipe the dalvik cache.

Thanks so much. I wiped the cache again, and also wiped the dalvik cache. Also did a full back-up while I was there. When it rebooted, it said Andriod was upgrading, and then it optimized all my applications. The bad news is, that the copy feature still doesn't work.

Did I mention I'm a newbie? LOL I guess this might all be over my head. Because I don't have icons for CWM or TWRP in my apps, nor do I know how to install them. I see them both in Rom Manager, but I don't have a clue how to use that very well either. When I first rooted my device, I even paid for something to get CWM to work (I think that was what I paid for), but never could get it to work. Kept getting some kind of permissions error. Sorry, I'm really not that tech stupid, but when it comes to android, I guess I am, because I seem to be clueless to all this. Been reading the forums for hours and hours trying to learn more, but it seems to confuse me more, the more I read. *sigh* I looked for CWM in the app store, but can't find it. I changed my backup in rom manager back and forth from cwm to twrp, but I still can't figure out HOW to open either of those. Thanks for the help. I apologize for not knowing how to use either of those. Is there a place I can download and install either of them outside the play store maybe?
Anyone know of any classes one can take for android tablets?

Do Not... I Repeat... Do Not Use ROM Manager For This Device.... Its cool.. I'll help ya out. Cwm/twrp are custom Recovery's for many devices. These custom Recovery's replace our stock Recovery's. They are not Apps.. To get to recovery you can hold down you're power button until the power off window pops up. Then select reboot.. Then select recovery.. Or it might say recovery on the first screen. If you don't have this option..go to developer options in settings and click, power menu or advanced reboot. Then check recovery to show up. If you're stock rooted you will need to power off the device... Then hold the power button and volume down button..( simultaneously ). Wait until the Android screen comes up..it will show the galaxy animation then go black..just keep holding and then a new screen will popup. Use the volume down key( only ) to switch between download mode( on the right ) and recovery ( on the left ). Select recovery by moving to it and the volume up button as the select button... This will take you too custom recovery if you have it( it wil say the version of cwm/twrp at the top of the page. If not than you have no custom rec. We will have to flash one...
YIKES!

So sorry, after I left my long reply, I was playing with rom manager, and I somehow got into the clockworkmod recovery mode. I have never seen that mode before, by rebooting into recovery mode the regular way. Anyway, I did what you said, and when I came back, I did NOT see your reply yet, so I edited my reply. LOL Then I saw that I had a notification, and when I clicked on it, I was able to see your reply. I'm going to see if I get into cwm by doing what you said above. Then I'll be back to see if you have any other ideas. Oh, and the good news is, even though I still can't copy, yet, now it doesn't freeze the whole tablet. It just froze the browser I was in, when I was testing to see if the copy feature would work. So, that might be a step in the right direction, at least.

You could use ROM manager to just boot to recovery, but nothing else.. I don't use it because I've had it freeze up my device.. As I've read others have had this happen as well... Once you get to rec..remember what version it is...this is important for many things..after you get a feel for it just wipe the cache and dalvik cache as I stated before and you should be good to go..if not.. I'll track down what apk clipboard is part of and we'll wipe that apk's cache..
cwn recovery mode works now
Oh cool, that worked now. Just as an FYI when I held down the power key, the only options I have are power off, airplane mode, or restart. I chose restart, and it just restarted. So I powered off, and then held down the power and volume down buttons. Before, when I did that, it just went to stock recovery. It changed after I played around in rom manager. It said there was an upgrade for cwm so I upgraded it. Then I went into recovery mode from there. But I just tried going there, the way you said, and that worked too, NOW. YAY! So, you don't think I should ever use rom manager then?
Oh, and it said it was upgrading my android, after I rebooted, but I still have android 4.04 so I'm not sure what it upgrade, exactly. LOL I've been wanting to upgrade to something better. (custom rom) But still trying to learn more, before I do that. So for right now, I just wish I could get my clipboard working again. Arghhh..
Thanks so much for all your help. I REALLY appreciate it. Oh, and also thanks for pointing out that it's NOT an app. That makes so much more sense now. :good:
didn't work

OK thanks, I won't use that anymore then. Especially, now that I can get to it, just by rebooting into it.
Anyway, when I said I did what you said, I should have been more clear. I did wipe the cache again, and also the dalvik cache. Clipboard still not working. But it's not as bad as it was. Before when I clicked on copy, it would freeze the whole tablet. Now it just freezes whatever app I'm in. Also, before I stopped getting the paste button. Now it shows up again, but if I use it, then it also freezes the app. So, I guess we're making progress, huh?

OK.. I've read up on this issue and it seems a factory reset is the only way to fix it. But first I would wipe the browser data and cache to see if that works. If not.. You will need to backup you're apps/with data using titanium backup and also make a backup in recovery.. Then do the wipe data in recovery and reboot. You will loose anything not saved....
darn

Oh crap, I was hoping I could avoid that. So, even if I do a back-up using tatanium, does that mean I have to download all the apps again, or can I just restore a back-up and get everything back again? I have so many apps, I'd hate to have to download them all again. Also, it took me forever to get this thing rooted. Ugh...

Titanium will back up all you're apps and their data...awesome right.. Don't forget to make a nandroid back up in recovery...This is something you should always have.. Once you get this fixed..you can use you're file manager to delete the nandroid and then go make another one.. This way if this happens again you can just restore you're nandroid from recovery..All you would have to do after that would be to add the apps you download in the future.. When you make a nandroid back up in recovery.. You can only restore it with the same recovery you used to make it..just a heads up. And for restoring the apps in the future...just always have a current titanium back up.. You get all this...lol I know it sounds redundant.. But this is really easy. Just sounds involved. If you need a step by step, just ask and I'll whip one up..
Cool

Oh cool, as long as I can get it all back, then I'm OK with doing a factory reset. When I first spoke to a Samsung tech support agent, he said I would have to download all the apps again. Ugh...
And YES PLEASE, a step by step would be most appreciated, because I've never backed up and restored anything on Android before. I have no idea what I'm doing on this thing YET. LOL But hey, once I get that mastered, maybe I can even try and figure out how to upgrade to a custom ROM.... MAYBE! LOL
Thank you again, for all your help. I really appreciate it.

OK.. First let's make a nandroid backup( usually refered to as a nan/nano/nandroid )..
1..First..Make sure you're phone has a 50 or more percent charge..
2..Now..boot into recovery..
3..Now scroll down to ( backup/restore ) and pick it
4..Now pick ( backup ) and let it do its thing...This can take a bit of time depending on the recovery and the amount of data/apps being backed up.
Once this is done.. Reboot..how easy was that..
OK.. Now let's make a titanium back up..
1..Go to play store and install titanium backup. ( the paid version is worth the money ) But the free version will work.
2..Open Titanium Backup
3..Give it root permission
4..Now pick backup/restore in header
5..Now pick the check mark in top right corner
6..Under the heading..backup. Pick backup all user apps.. Push the check mark on next page. Let it do its thing...
How easy was that... You could also backup apps and system data... Just remember when restoring a titanium backup, that if the backup has system data in it... it will not work right on a different ROM...( when you start flashing ROMs ) Let me know how it goes..

OK thank you. I did already do a full back-up when I wiped the cache. So I just have to do the Titanium backup, now. I think I'll probably get the paid version, if you say it's worth it. Battery is almost dead though, so I'll need to let it charge first. Seems easy enough, but where I get confused, is how do I restore everything, once I do a factory reset? Won't the reset erase titanium and all the backup files along with everything else? Oh, and will the restore also put all my bookmarks back in my browsers, too? Or will I lose all my bookmarks?

The restore will put everything back, but you want to make one after the factory reset and you titanium backup restore.( this one will be a safe one..no bugs ) if you need to wipe again.. You will have to re-download titanium backup or do like I do and make a copy of the apk and keep it on you're sdcard( internal for me..that way I can always get to it ) I use ex file explorer to make apk backups.. I actually use it for all my file manager needs on all my devices..

So, when I wipe it all out, this time, I will then need to go download titanium again, then do the restore? And my restore file will STILL be there, even though I wiped it all out? That's where I'm confused. It seems as though, factory reset will erase my restore file TOO! Or am I missing something?
Oh, and I have ES File Explorer, is ex file explorer better? Or, is that the same thing? LOL

Oh, OK I get it now. I guess I was thinking it would wipe the sdcard TOO! LOL Sorry for being so clueless. You taught me a LOT today. And I really appreciate it. So, I guess that titanium put's it's backups on the sdcard, as well, then. I went into ES File Explorer to try and put titanium apk on SD card but I couldn't figure out how to do that, so I'll just re-download that, after I wipe it out.
