Not sure if it was posted before, if it was my apologies, if not, enjoy the always funny ASUS CEO playing a somehow trimmed version of Steve Jobs presentations.

Sorry, somehow can't get the video embebed...
great video. I love his enthusiasm when he announces the products..lol. so according to video, Prime owners are "Mobile Tech Trendsetters". I like it. also clearly shown Asus plans on supporting prime and has no intentions of discontinuing it. With Prime and new tablets, they said they have devices for all market segments. very good news for prime owners. Don't let the hate or negative bashing make you think Prime being discontinued. PRIME IS HERE TO STAY. people don't know what da hell they talking about I really like that Padaphone. really cool how you just slide it into the back of that tablet and transforms from a phone into a tablet. plus it won CES 2012 BEST innovation of the year award. Asus is becoming the 1st. of alot of things tech wise in the tablet world. Asus playing hardball in 2012. very glad to own a Prime.
also for those thinkn the re-branding or name change means phaseout of Prime, video shows you're mistaken. Transformer Prime is now called the TRANSFORMER PAD PRIME" wow big deal..lol. we here to stay!
here is the video:
Shih dude is a character. I see he has practiced his vocal cadence, but the over-the-top delivery combined with his heavy accent makes it a bit hilarious. Probably intentional. He's like an Asian Charlie Chaplin.
The new line (incl TP700) is slated for Q2, so a spring release. Prime still has 2-3 months of limelight for those who care about such things. BTW, Prime is noted as for "mobile tech trendsetters" in the presentation. In the press release, the first sentence describing the Prime says "designed for early adopters." May explain why availability is limited. Well, that, and selling toys right after Xmas is never a good idea.
No mention of everybody's fav, the $250 7" 370T. Would assume then that it won't make spring launch. Would make sense for 2H, since Teg3 would drop more in price by then, to be fitted into a "value" device.
Not much to say about the PadPhone, which occupied half of the entire presentation. Well, two things to say: it's actually a 3-in-1 (phone/tablet/laptop) now with inclusion of keyboard dock, and the stylus/headset combo is pretty cool--at least until you lose it.
We'll see how the hype pans out in reality. Call me a sceptic. Should know by April, its announced launch date.
Overall, have to give Asus props as trying to innovate, which is more than I can say for the rest of the other PC manufacturers. Need to pay more attention to fit-and-finish issues, though.

Not to piss in anyone's Cheerios or speculate the future, but you really need to take what manufacturers say publically with a grain of salt. It's accurate, but only at the moment it's literally said.
Here's a good example. Asus announced a TF101 3G model last spring. They posted a web page for it in August that's still up. Reporters got review samples in the fall. It was never released.
Asus Eee Pad Transformer 3G Price & Release Dates Confirmed

The current best selling Android Honeycomb tablet in the world, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, has just received the formal treatment, courtesy of Asus. As of a few hours ago, they’ve taken the liberty of putting up an official product page, which is virtually identical to the one of the Wi-Fi only variant, but with one small, important detail. 3G.
According to NetbookNews and NotebookItalia, both of whom we have a lot of love for, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer 3G will be going on sale in Europe for 499 Euros for the 16GB version, and for 599 Euros for he 32GB.which sports a TF101G model number).
Another important thing to note is that Asus has altered the battery time of the Eee Pad Transformer TF101G (with keyboard dock) to be only 14.5 hours, versus the 16 hours of its non-3G brother. According to our sources, we can expect to see these go on sale in Europe first towards the end of August, with the US and Canada to follow shortly thereafter. There’s no word yet whether any of the major carriers will be picking any of these up, but we expect at least one of them to. Either way, expect the 16GB 3G Transformer to go for $499, and for the 32GB to go for $599.

I agree emote. as long as they tighten down their QC issues, Asus is the company to beat, for Android, for 2012 and beyond.
but WTF, I didn't know it had a stylus headset. blew me away when he had the padaphone in the tablet, then the phone starting ringing. so he answered the phone with his Zulus..lmfao WTF! SMH caught me way off guard with that one. you can hear the crowd gasping with Amazement. Damn, I would love to have that 3-1 setup. from Phone to Tablet to Notebook. it has me rethinking my galaxy note future purchase now. I wonder if the phone will come with at least the tablet display. if so how much? then would the tf-201 dock be compatible or is this yet another separate dock needed?
I'm sure Asus is going to be star of MWC. the have some? !#& for ya..lol but dang Asus, you really need to take care of Prime issues some having. Don't let this taint all these new great devices you bringing out.
I must admit, at first I didn't think much of the phone. didn't know or cared for details on it. but now after seeing this video, I think I gotta have one..lol I wonder does the tablet have its own separate memory storage or uses the phone storage only. does display have any other ports on it? man, this is crazy! this completely destroys what Motorola tried to do with the Atrix.

This is XDA. You want to be objective... not optimistic or pessimistic.
Anyways, MWC as a whole is nothing but disappointment so far. Honestly, I'm not sure how Padaphone stole the show when HTC ONE X is getting the most buzz....
But yea.. MWC so far.. is boring & makes you wonder why they even have the event. Apple's March event is getting more press/media coverage.... =/

Hi,
Now that many of you have received the Prime I was wondering, now that the excitement has worn off (or has it?) is the tablet what your thought it would be?
I own the original transformer and have my Amazon order for a 64gig tablet arriving mid January (or later) . Maybe I should cancel my order and wait to see what's announced at the Consumser Electronic Show. I've been reading about a new Lenovo tablet that should have higher resolution than the Prime and may be clocked slightly higher. I know the Lenovo tablet is speculation but it does suggest that there might be some more advanced tablets just around the corner .... and hell I've waited this long.
Thanks,
MD
keep the pre order and wait to swe what is announced at ces. the lenovo tablet will hopefully be announced and i know htc has a tablet in the works and i believe samsung might have their next galaxy tab announcement as well.
There is always something better around the corner. If you keep waiting for the next best thing you will wait forever.
Really, it's the dock that makes the Transformer (and Prime) of interest to me. Without it, I'd probably not be nearly as likely to get a tablet at all. I know there are Bluetooth keyboards available, but it's the fact that the TF/Prime+dock is an integrated unit (and can comfortably be used as such, no secure, flat surface required) gives me enough functionality that I can justify the cost for the tablet.
So, I don't really have any interest in other tablets.
Lenovo and HTC Tegra3 tablets have already been announced, dunno if they'll be cheaper or have better specs, or when they'll be released.
Until I have the dock I can't form a complete opinion, however it is easily the best tablet I have ever used in terms of performance, quality screen and features. Plus it is just as slick looking as the ipad2. I am an owner of a TF1 as well, which I still use since the dock is important to me. The dock is definitely what makes this tablet unique with the double battery life and excellent keyboard setup, so if the dock is not important surely in 2 months Lenovo or Acer will have something higher spec, but will it be updated and supported as well as Asus? I doubt that very much.
The only one I would wait for would be is the Lenova, supposeably it's coming with 2 gb of Ram, but that's the only boost over the prime, but then again you loose the cabability of having a keyboard dock that adds battery life.
They're always gonna come out with something better specs wise. But until that product is actually released youre never going to know if its really better or worth the wait...again. I say get Prime now and sell it later if you like something else. I know thats what I'll be doing.
Since the Prime won't come out untill 6th of January in Holland I will wait untill the CES. Asus has delayed the release for so long I don't mind waiting a few days to see if there are going to come much better devices for the same price..
I'm not really sure how any CES tablet would be substantially better. Especially once the TF201 gets ICS I think it'll be a winner for some time to come. I have no plans to get rid of mine.

I don't know if 2gb of ram would do any good for android devices.
from what I've read anything above 1 gb would be useless.

More RAM, higher resolution screens, AMOLED screen's perhaps..
@Above, in the future this won't be useless.
Hmm, Samsung's rumored Exynos tablet will be interesting...
2.0 ghz dual-core processor (32nm processor), stereoscopic 3D displays and resolutions of up to 2560-by-1600, and retina display... oh, and supposedly 11 in.
I'm thinking about alternatives a little differently, from a cost perspective. Funds are short.
I'm without a tablet atm; miss the Acer tablet I returned for comfortable media consumption. Backordered the TP at BB, and keyboard would come later, if ever.
If I choose to delay the tablet, I'll likely upgrade my OG Droid with Galaxy Nexus, and wait till money is available again.
Either that, or look into a refurb'd Color Nook with CM9 on it, pass it to the kid if something better comes along for me.
If you're tight on cash and want to skip the TP, you should look at a Galaxy Tab 7" GSM or WiFI only refurb or just plain used on Craigslist, they're going cheap. It's a MUCH better device than the NC (I own both) and at the current price points you can find it at, a better overall value now too.

True but it would be more future proof than the TFP when they do find away to use it.

The Lenovo tablet enters production next month. Acer was trying to make X-Mas and missed so January or February is pretty likely. HTC uses Qualcomm chips and the newer Snapdragon's won't be available until mid year so they're a long shot. The Samsung tablet's a mystery - some online rags are saying February but that seems a little ambitious.

Both the Lenovo and Acer tablets are supposed to have more RAM (2GB) and higher res displays (1900x1200) then the Prime. They're Teg3 too and clocked at 1.6GHz. I'd guess that's going to become the new high-end standard. Thin and light is expected now so I'd assume the form factors will be similar to the Prime and Toshiba Excite (the thinnest, lightest tablet). They're both supposed to launch with ICS also. When all is said and done, the Prime's biggest differentiator is going to be its keyboard dock. Just like the dual-cores, all Teg3's will perform similarly. I'd expect the Acer and Lenovo to be announced in almost production-ready form at CES on January 11th.

More DRAM is always a benefit. Per Anandtech's review one of the issues he ran into was trying to edit a document, switching between apps and sometimes the memory management closing the editor on him resulting in lost work and there's no auto save.
I figure with all the delays with TP I might as well see what's coming out for the new year. I'm liking Lenovo's better specs (1.6GHz and 2GB DRAM) and also Samsung's 2GHz Exynos (prefer faster dual-core than slower quad-core).
As it was suggested I'll hold on to my pre order from Amazon and ride it out a bit but I think I'll end up cancelling it. I do own the Transformer dock and have never really used it. Virtually brand new. In the end I feel having a keyboard defeats the purpose of have a portable device.
I do have a first gen Transformer and a Samsung 7.0 plus, so I'm more than covered. If I do change my mind I can purchase a Prime from a retail location.

I wouldn't want a Acer tablet, their stuff just isn't good quality most of the time, but perhaps they surprise us with their tablet..
Samsung however, is something I'm very interested in, they seem to have the same quality as Asus with their Tab 10.1 (and others).
If you only know the answer to like just one question than just answer that one lol. Don't feel the need to answer all of my questions. Thank you for your time.
1. Is the TF Prime going to become the new flagship powerhouse Android® tablet?
*Like the Xoom once was, followed by the Sammy gTAB 10.1?*
2. Will we soon see a ICS aka Android 4.0 port any time soon?
*according to ASUS they will have an official ICS update for the TF Prime in early January of 2012, for some reason I doubt that, even though it shouldn't take them more than a month to push an update especially because they aren't like HTC or Sammy, with there extremely sophisticated Touch Wiz and Sense. That causes for application updates to the Android SDK, to be stripped and gutted in order to put there own skin on top, which takes even more time*
3. How good does the screen look with the Super IPS+, I believe that's what it is called.
*how does it compare to renowned screens on devices such as; The Samsung gTAB 7.0+ w/ its SAMOLED+, The Samsung GSII with Its SAMOLED+, The HTC Vivid I'm not sure what display it utilizes, the LG Nitro I think its called I could be wrong but its an LG phone with I believe a Super Nova something display?, and lastly my current phone the HTC Sensation 4G w/ it's qHD display.(In regards to movie quality, web browsing, pictures, Netflix & Hulu+ streaming, etc and stuff like that.)
4. Also had the tablet received root yet? And any custom roms created yet? (Rather they be in pre alpha/alpha/beta)
5. Lastly should I still get this tablet even if its not available completely till mid January ish? With CES In Vegas early January maybe something better will be announced? For mid spring?
Thank you for taking the time to answer my various questions in regards to the TF Prime. I'm just trying to get as much info as possible before dropping $650+ on this tablet.

It's the first tablet to use a quad-core chip making it the current "flaghship." Others have announced quad-core tablets with release expected Q1. Whether they will be better than the Prime is subjective and will depend on their features. Expect to find out more January 11th at CES.

Asus has been one of the best manufacturers with updates. Based on the importance of them to be first with quad-core I can't imagine them not being one of the first to introduce ICS.

The unique feature of the Prime's display is what Asus has named "super bright." It's far brighter than other displays currently available and would seem the best for daylight use. Asus doesn't make their own displays - they buy them from either Sharp, AIO, or LG the same as everyone else. Only Samsung makes their own displays. Read through people's comments and they're generally satisfied with the display although some have said the colors on the G-Tab are more vibrant and there have been some QC issues.

Personal choice. If you need a tablet now, are an Asus fan, or want the keyboard then buy it now. If you have the time there's no harm in waiting until CES which is only three weeks away to see what tablets are going to look like in 2012.
1. Is the TF Prime going to become the new flagship powerhouse Android® tablet?
it is the current flagship for what's the latest and greatest regarding android tablets as it's the first one running tegra3. it's not like the xoom or the galaxy tab I/O edition in the sense that updates don't come directly from google, rather they come from asus, but so far asus has a good track record in updating the tf101 very quickly and i personally like the small touches they add to the device. if i had to bet, they will be the first mainstream tablet with ICS running on it officially.
also, the xoom was and will always be a piece of crap device that should have never been released. the tf101 and galaxy tab series were the old flagships imo.
2. Will we soon see a ICS aka Android 4.0 port any time soon?
asus has stated end of the year or early next year, they've stated that the primes that will come out in singapore around mid jan will be sold with ICS preloaded on them, so that bodes will for us getting it in the next few weeks or so.
3. How good does the screen look with the Super IPS+, I believe that's what it is called.
the screen is great. superIPS+ is mainly for outdoor use as it bumps the brightness beyond any other tablet in the market, which makes it actually readable in sunlight, but it will murder your battery and shouldn't be on all the time.
personally, i find it to be better than any other tablet screen i've used (xoom, tf101, gtab 10.1, viewsonic gtab, ipad1, gtab 7" (1st gen)) the colors are vibrant, it has great viewing angles, and text is very clear.
4. Also had the tablet received root yet? And any custom roms created yet?
people were able to root some of the primes, but the latest OTA seems to break root if you don't have it already before, some people have said they couldn't root the gamestop tablets even before the OTA, so reports vary. i don't think we'll see any custom roms before ICS drops, with a lot of slower developement being due to less people being able to get it in their hands right now.
5. Lastly should I still get this tablet even if its not available completely till mid January ish? With CES In Vegas early January maybe something better will be announced? For mid spring?
something better will always be around the corner, but i can say with 99% certainty that anything announced at CES won't be on the market until summer (Q2/Q3) at the earliest. and personally, i don't see the point of the insane resolution panels that everyone is trying to make right now. ~720p on a 10" screen is plenty of pixel density for me.
but, if you can't get your hands on one before CES, you might as well see what they announce. personally, i'm happy i got this, and when those tablets finally hit the stores, if i like them, i'll sell this and get one of those, the kicker with the prime though, is the dock, no one else makes something like the dock that works as well as it does. so for me, i'll probably wait until asus makes a tf301 or something like that which runs win8
hope that helped
Ok this something I just noticed tonight When I was downloading pics from Goolge images. When it downloads the pictures and you open the gallery its doesnt order them in the downloaded order which is very strange because the original Gallery I have always had on my Evo never had this problem. I actually noticed this when I copied over my Downloaded pics from My Evo but I thought it was something that had to do with the fact the pictures were originally downloaded from the Evo.
But its the same when it puts the pictures downloaded from the Prime. Wanted to know if there is a way to correct this because its very annoyng. The downloaded pictures should be numbered in the order they were downloaded not randomly like its doing.
For example This my dowloaded pics from left to right beggining to end.
As you Can See the KTM Motorcycle pics were the first but for some reason it split up the first picture of the motorcycleb and put it in the front of the Gallery. The Second group of pics I downloaded was the Shelby Cobra pianted Mystic And the third group of pics were E36 BMW M3s

Here is the middle moving right
And the End
Let me Know what you guys think.
I've owned an original TF and a Prime ( returned last week due to ongoing issues with the device). Was wondering about total sales of the unit. Do think that the TF101 was a home run for ASUS, and think that the Prime will do well once they resolve the issues. I do recall statements back in the summer of 2011 of 400K per month being shipped, and recent news that ASUS may hit 6M units for 2012. I also remember quite well how the TF101 was the top item within the Amazon market for weeks on end for it's category.
Today i looked at the 3Q 2011 Investor Conference (pdf) available on Asus website.
Couple of things that stood out;
Page 13 Actual shipments for EPAD 2Q 2011 & 3Q 2011 total 1.2M and estimated for 4Q were 0.6M
Page 30 EeePad Business Result total volume shipped 1.6(e) and 85% of that being the TF101
As an aside it looks like Amazon sold at least 3M of the Kindle Fire in 2011. The Zoom and Playbook were a flop not hitting 1M units, I couldn't find data for Samsung
Ipad sales for 2011 40M
40M iPads sold! WOW! They have the tablet market on lock with what to me is essentially a toy. Incredible!
in one month from what I can tell they produced 150k-250k transformer primes and docks in some distribution! so they are doing great! it was probaly more like 2-3 weeks because of the hardware change
also you cant count the kindle fire as it was only sold for a maybe a quater

Am wondering how this is a "home run." Est Q4 unit sales is half that of Q3. Revenue is probably worse, since most Android tabs were hitting the bargain bins in Oct.
BTW, Apple announced iPad Q4 unit sales were 15.43M.

4Q sales would have impacted the tf101 because people would have been waiting for the prime. I'd say it was a home run because it was one of the only droid tablets that didn't have to offer steep discounts (ie the thrive, Sony, touchpad, play book, zoom and even the galaxy tab) it also seemed to win numerous awards for best product.
The 1.2m units was 2Q and 3Q combined the tf101 was only released in2Q 2011
OK, went and checked out the Asus Q3 investor glossy: Q2 = 400K, Q3 = 800K, Q4 = 600K est. No surprises, other than that the Americas got lumped into the "other" category, which comprised only 14% of Asus global sales. EU slurped 40%.
>4Q sales would have impacted the tf101 because people would have been waiting for the prime
Doubt it. Q4 (CY, not FY) would be Oct-Nov-Dec, and Prime was only a glimmer in hardcore techies' eyes at that point. Heck, Prime is not even in wide availability yet.
>I'd say it was a home run because it was one of the only droid tablets that didn't have to offer steep discounts
TF101 was on BF sale for $250, and periodically available in Nov/Dec for around $300. Discount wasn't as steep as other Teg2s since its starting price was lower ($400). But all Teg2s were in bargain bin.
>The 1.2m units was 2Q and 3Q combined the tf101 was only released in2Q 2011
Yep, caught that. But drop from 800 to 600 MoM is still pretty crap, especially going into Q4, which should be the best Q of the year. Then again, other Asus product categories also show flat or slight decrease, so I suppose it depends on how rev is reported.
Relative to other Android tabs, I'd have to give Samsung the crown for 2011, then Asus, then, uh, Moto I guess (they cleared 1M for the year). Acer took a bath. Tosh & Lenovo were johnny-come-latelies and didn't matter much. Oh yeah, Amazon KFire and Nook LCDs took a chunk (40% of total Android tab sales).
News of the prime started to hit YouTube when Nov? Or was it earlier. It seemed that every other day back then something was getting leaked via fb or YouTube or a press conference, I'll still say that would have impacted sales of tablets, addin the fact that people were shopping deals and yeah sales were lowing then the previous quarter. And yes we saw that bf sale of 249, but bf like boxing day sales here in Canada are not reflective of price pressure on a product IMHO
Samsung may very well have done quite well, having a 3G unit in wide release sure would have helped. But they did get shut out of some parts of th eu and Australia for some time. Add in what they must have spent on advertising and litigation and I'll stand by my statement that the tf101 performed marginally better

Edit first news of a new tf prime was mid oct 2011
People don't follow rumors of gadget launches; only the hardcore peeps do. Prime was NOT on sale in Q4. A few early adopters got it early, but even now it's not yet widely available. Don't assume that the mainstream is as gung-ho about Android tabs, or the Prime specifically, as those here.
Let's be honest, all HC tabs flopped. One can quibble whether the TF101 flopped less, but same diff. A home run, it wasn't. As for Prime, well, let's just say that its debut was less than auspicious.
We all hope that ICS will be the silver bullet. Personally, I doubt it. But it should be good enough to stay in the mix. As has been said, it's a marathon. I'm already over ICS, and am looking forward to J-wazzit.
One thing I'll give Asus is that it is leading the Android tab charge, even if by its lonesome self. My read of Shih (CEO) dude is that he thinks of Asus as an avant-garde co, and he's trying to recreate the netbook magic, which Asus was at the forefront of. As mentioned in the glossy, Asus will also lead the Win8 charge, so it'll have its hands full. Perhaps why it dropped the ball on the Prime.
Think about how much advertising there is for the iPad. Everyone has heard of it, everyone knows what it can do.
When i worked at (electronics store) i'd ask people if they heard about the transformer and only one person out of everyone i asked even knew what it was. Most people were very interested in its expanded capability compared to the iPad but there just was no marketing.
The prime has recieved a bit more play, few more people asking about it but lack of stock and few stores carry it in my area, compared to everywhere that carries the iPad.
There is a reason apple wins awards for their advertising, they sink a lot of time and money into it, and it works. Samsung is STARTING to have a higher profile around here but generally Asus is stuck on the sidelines. Soon as the prime is in mainstream advertising and people know how much power / potential it has over the iPad it will sell more.
>i'd ask people if they heard about the transformer and only one person out of everyone i asked even knew what it was
Here's public awareness in a microcosm: Back in July, when I let my 6-yr old niece play with my Nook Color, she went "Oh you got an iPad!" Fast-forward a few months to Nov, when handed same NC, she went "Oh I love your Kindle!"
So yeah, we're getting there eventually...
>Think about how much advertising there is for the iPad.
It's not advertising. Apple doesn't need any. Every move it makes (or doesn't make) is frontline news in every tech blog, and even mainstream news. Them's the perks of being king of the hill.
>Soon as the prime is in mainstream advertising and people know how much power / potential it has over the iPad it will sell more.
May be it'll include a Press here for GPS lock sticker. (OK I stole this off another guy...)

Am wondering how this is a "home run." Est Q4 unit sales is half that of Q3. Revenue is probably worse, since most Android tabs were hitting the bargain bins in Oct.
BTW, Apple announced iPad Q4 unit sales were 15.43M.

Fair enough on only the few following the rumors but the 4Q reported are estimates it will be a month or so before we know what sales were. As for the net book market the Zen seems to be getting some good press.
I do wonder tho why such a shortage of Primes I mean I think they've been out for what 6 weeks, and even if they were selling a 100k a week that's still only 600k. If apple can produce and have ready a million units for a launch why wouldnt ASus have at least 250k on release with a supply chain that can deliver 500k a month
There seems to be little planning on either the testing of the product, the testing of ics, or having enough inventory to meet demand. And when one considers that they sold a million units last yr, why would they be performing like this is new territory to them.
As for the new t700 I don't see how that will gain much traction in the market the price point is just too high
You're right the HC tablets were overall a flop and did not so much as bruise Apple (let alone morph into iPad killers)
>Zen seems to be getting some good press.
The Zenbook is lost in the Ultrabook deluge, if CES is any indication. Jury is still out whether the public will pay the (vastly) increased premiums over existing laptops, just to get the Macbook Air clone look. My SWAG: In Intel's wet dreams.
>and even if they [Prime] were selling a 100k a week that's still only 600k
Thousands. May be low tens of.
>If apple can produce and have ready a million units for a launch why wouldnt ASus
It takes time to ramp up production. From rumor mill, iPad 3 component production has already started months ago. Remember, aluminum unibody is new for Asus. The RF thing is part of the teething process. Early adopters = beta testers.
>little planning on either the testing of the product, the testing of ics
To be fair, ICS schedule is out of Asus' hands. Goog is not being vendor friendly. The late ICS release caused vendors to miss out on Xmas season. Ditto with HC last year.
I think in a couple of months, teething issues should be resolved, and Prime should be in prime shape. Be proud to be a member of the Asus Beta Testing Team!
>As for the new t700 I don't see how that will gain much traction in the market the price point is just too high
It depends how iPad 3 w/ QXGA will be priced. TF700 (sans dock) will be same or less.
The TF101 was one of the few Tegra 2 tablets that sold very well. In fact it is one of the top rated tablets of 2011.
As for shortages, take a look at the iPad 2 launch! The iPad 2 was so back ordered that Apple met demand 2 months after the initial launch.
Asus is moving in a very lucrative area for Tablets and they know it. Their 2012 estimates for Tablets and Ultrabooks are very enthusiastic.
Maybe the bottleneck is the Tegra 3 chip itself? Does anyone know nVidia's production numbers on it?
The best part of ICS is less fragmentation. Software is as key as hardware.
iOS gets more development because of numbers of units but also they only have 2 devices to support not 980+
The interesting thing is for us old timers, Android is the apple of the 80's and apple is IBM.

more reason that we shouldn't see such shortages

What? no one in the R&D dept heard of the same issues the iPhone had?

Then ASUS should have held off and ignored the cries for ICS until it was ready for wide release, hell why not simply offer it for those gung hoe geeks that had to have ICS but also have a way to go back to HC. HC has been relatively stable on the TF101

No Thanks.....Sure i may Beta test an OS on an old box to see what's coming down the pipe, but when it comes to a tablet, phone, netbook etc I'm not doing the work for either a lazy nor cheap company.

There has to be a compelling reason to not go with Apple, and I don't think that simply not liking them is a large enough market. Android, RIM, Windows8 etc have to meet or exceed Apple on price, features, integration, stability to have a chance of being more then niche products.
There is some potential that Windows8 devices will have a significant impact , part of me is doubtful they (Microsoft) seem to be more reactive then innovative, but (big BUT) if they can bring a device to market that has the features, battery life, integration with the DT and corporate IT infrastructures we'll see some progress in a Utopian platform
Here is a snapshot of the current Android tablet market.

Saw that graphic last night. In the article i read the data was collected based on app usage for at least 10 seconds. It's not known AFAIK what apps Flurry is able to collect data from and some have suggested that it may be weighted to Apps available via the Amazon Store more so. Factor in the fact that when people get a new device they will be trying all kinds of apps to see the potential of the device. After time that settles down I'd expect when people have their favorites. It's not a true representation of device distribution
Things are changing for Asus
Check it out, Today I am on Targets web site looking for a vacuum, and just for kicks I click on "Comoputers and Tablets" to see what, besides the iPad and Acer Iconia they may offer, thinking I will see a Toshiba Thrive, and maybe a Nook And Kindle, but little else.
There it was, Transformer Prime, 32 Gb. Grey, IN STOCK!
What's next, Walmart?

Official barring any last minute appeals.......
Hasbro got what they really wanted, which was to show defense of the trademark should future entities try and hijack their branding.
I read the materials, and it looks like this was just a preliminary judgment against the ban. The case is still headed to trial (although this precedent would make it seem unlikely Hasbro will win)...

Came here to post this ^
The decision here was for a preliminary injunction on the sales of the TFPrime. This is different than a full decision of trademark infringements on the merits, and instead, the prelim injunction is usually the first step of any IP litigation.
Here, Hasbro would have to prove irreparable harm as well as a likelihood of success on the merits (and public interest, lack of defendants' harm, blah blah), so winning on this front doesn't necessarily guarantee winning on an infringement suit.
However, for those of you paying attention, as I said, one of the key elements for an injunction is "likelihood of success on the merits," so a win here on the prelim injunction stage is a strong signal from the judge that he is likely to be skeptical on the infringement claims as well (as the likelihood of success is not that high).
The saddest thing to come out of that ruling were the Asus Transformer Prime sales numbers:
"So when court filings reveal that pre-orders for this poster child for Android 4 tablets (and it does look great) total a whopping 2000 units as of a month ago, it’s kind of a letdown. That and 80,000 going to retailers worldwide make the device seem rather minor even in comparison to other Android products like the Nook Color and Kindle Fire. Is there a space for “premium” Android devices running just plain Android? The market seems smaller than big players like Asus would like to believe — or at least it is not growing as quickly as they expected."

Not really. Also saw those numbers weren't totally accurate. It is strange though. The small numbers they did produce sold out though. So Asus has their own reasons for not mainstreaming it yet. OG transformer was produced in small numbers at first also. Which lead to same shortage situation like prime. Leading it to be hard to find. More than likely production issues. It still holds title of most powerful android tablet. So production will be kicked up soon once whoever producing their tablets gets things straightened out.
Plus I like having the most powerful Android device which everyone can't get their hands on. If i wanted a device everyone and their mom's has, I would've just bought the new Ipad or an ipad2. With a bunch of new tegra3 devices about to drop, tegra3 support and optimized apps/games will only continue to grow.
I like the Exclusivity of it.

Here's the quote from the original source:
The order also reveals that the Transformer Prime is, for now, no iPad: “as of February 24, 2012, it had received over 2,000 pre-orders ... and that retailer fulfillment orders for the next two months total approximately 80,000 tablet computers.”
Click to collapse
That "2000 pre-orders" number is a bit wacky, if only considering the word "pre-order." Why are we talking about pre-orders in February? Unless they mean merely "orders," and misspoke--but even then, 2,000 seems a mighty low number at this point.
Now, 80,000 for "the next two months," or March and April, seems more reasonable (if a bit lower than I'd have expected), and that says nothing about how many have already sold (and yes, every one that's shipped has sold through which is a good thing for ASUS). I'd say that if this number is accurate, we could be somewhere in the range of 150-250K units sold by the summer. And, as we all know here on XDA, the Prime has been severely supply-constrained--there are absolutely ZERO units sitting unsold in anybody's inventory. Who knows how many could have been sold if ASUS had been able to meet supply?
Those aren't iPad numbers, but they're reasonable given all of the issues surrounding the Prime's launch. And, no tablet HAS TO sell at iPad levels to be successful for a given company. If ASUS recoups their investment and makes some profit on the product, then it can be considered a success. NOBODY will achieve iPad numbers anytime soon, if ever. It's a freaking consumer products phenomenon. But I see Android tablet makers selling enough to stay in the market, which will spell some success in the long-term.
I think Demandarin is right: Retail fulfillment numbers are low because retailers have none in stock. Go look now: No big box stores have the damn thing, and if they do, it's sporadic at best.
I wish I had more information on the production numbers, and why they're so low...it sells out everywhere when it comes into stock, there's simply no reason for Asus to not meet the high demand with greater supply unless:
1. There's a manufacturing problem.
2. Margin on the unit just isn't panning out.
2. Asus wants to move to the TF700 platform as soon as possible for reasons of greater margin, less returns/support, competition in the market, or some other Asus-will-never-tell-us reason.
Probably why the rebranding of the TF300 and TF700. If they phase out the Transformer Prime wouldnt the lawsuit be over?

I'm guessing ASUS is going to come out with the ASUS Optimized Transformer Prime next just to screw with Hasbro?
The Prime has also in a sense been rebranded, perhaps due in part to endevoring to head off Hasbro at the pass just in case the ruling may have gone against them (- it did seem unlikely, but you can never tell how judges will respond). During the announcements for the 300 series and Infinity models, slides referred to the Prime as the Asus transformer pad Prime. So 'Transformer Pad' encompasses their complete range of Android hybrid-tablet models.

About the "2000" in sales number. Someone is not entirely telling the truth then.
Either ASUS is lying about the sales figures, or ASUS is lying about the RMA return figures...
Somewhere there was a (official?) statistic, I believe by Gary, about the return of faulty primes, and the total returns was less than 1%.
1% of 2000 = 20 primes...
Well, according to what I have read here, the total number of returns must have been bigger...
So, either the sales figure is total crap, or the 1% return figure is total crap...

those court documents aren't even complete. doesn't even show how Any tablets were sold already after pre-orders and before that month or so they showed.
end conclusion: court documents doesn't show completely how many "TOTAL" were sold. months of sales are missing.
It's 2,000 that have given credit card info and absolutely have ordered between 01/07 and 02/25 (discovery summons to oral arguments, date of filing was 12/16, and 12/21 for 21 day summons). The 80,000 do refer to the 2 months after oral arguments but it refers to the vendors and parts suppliers being hurt not paying end-users per the judge agreeing.
None of the what is said in the court case reflects actual numbers from launch to now.
Ok, I keep hearing around here that the TF201 is NOT being discontinued. And it seems reasonable that it would stick around. However, at my company, we had ordered 1 for the CFO and he really likes his and they are talking about ordering 6 more for other managers. The lady that does ordering called our vendor and they are saying that they talked to Asus directly and the TF201 is discontinued now. They said we would have to wait for the TF300.
Has there been any OFFICIAL announcement from Asus either way on this?
Its been discontinued for a while now as far as i know...because of all the wi-fi and GPS problems this specific model has. I believe the TF300 will be out in June or Q3 of 2012...whilest the TF700t will be out shortly after the TF300.

I believe ASUS posted on their facebook page that the TF201 was not being discontinued and this was just a rumor. However this has been a couple months ago now so things may have changed. I also believe Gary Key stated a while back on the forums that the discontinued talk was merely a rumor.
As of March they are still manufacturing the TF201 as we have seen C3 serials show up in stores. It will be another week or two before we see C4 serials. If we don't start to see C4 serials after a couple of weeks then this would most likely indicate that it is being discontinued.
However, I strongly believe that ASUS is not and will not be discontinuing the TF201 any time soon. This is just speculation. And to answer your question as far as whether or not ASUS has provided an official statement, they have but it has been a couple of months since they did so.

It is definitely discontinued and has been for several months, and this is evidenced by the VP of marketing on this site saying that it hasn't been discontinued. There are too many problems evidently (1% of all primes have issues).

Look at his more recent updates in the op of that thread and you will see. Tell your boss he needs to find another retailer selling it..lol. there are still new people popping in xda everyday with new primes. Plus there's already C3 models out now. Soon we will see C4 ones.
Plus Prime is still heavily advertised on official Asus website. If it were to be discontinued, they would've quickly and easily of removed that info from website. People overreacting..lol.

Its been discontinued for a while now as far as i know...because of all the wi-fi and GPS problems this specific model has. I believe the TF300 will be out in June or Q3 of 2012...whilest the TF700t will be out shortly after the TF300.

Actually the tf-700 might not release in the u.s. at all. Plus now they are saying it won't be released anywhere until end of year more than likely. Check out the other thread where someone posted an email from Asus on the infinity pad.
Plus if it were discontinued, we would constantly see new model serial numbers pop up. Don't believe all the negative discontinued hype.

Not this rumor again..lmao. Prime is not being discontinued. PERIOD. End of story. The Asus representative, Gary, even said in his Unofficial thread here just recently that it wasn't going to be discontinued. They still sell it online and at Gamestop, Best Buy, and other brick n mortar stores.
Look at his more recent updates in the op of that thread and you will see. Tell your boss he needs to find another retailer selling it..lol. there are still new people popping in xda everyday with new primes. Plus there's already C3 models out now. Soon we will see C4 ones.

Yeah I hear you... however, best buy apparently is no longer carrying it. They don't ship it online, and no Best buy within a 200 miles radius of me has it in stock. That includes most of the Twin Cities, Minneapolis/St. Paul area... I think that if they were still actively in production don't you think that somebody would have them in stock? This all seems a little fishy to me... I even looked at bigger cities for Best Buy stock and nothing in Chicago or California area either... The only reason I got mine was because it was a open box that I got at my local Best Buy about a month ago. And mine is one of the older S/Ns, BCOKAS.
Just an observation...

That's a good observation. I think its more of Asus retooling or adding new components to newer/future primes to eliminate possible issues. We have seen other similar letters like in op stating that. Plus prime can still be found online and at Gamestop. I know the one in my area has them in stock because I called the other day looking for a dock. They said they had no docks ATM, that they only had the tablet itself in stock at that store. Plus there are alot more places than best buy online that would have it. Still doesn't explain the flood of new owners showing up in prime forum everyday. Still doesn't explain why Asus still advertises it on their official u.s. and global website. Which is always updated with new info on products they carry.
I don't feed into the negative stuff as it tends to come more from past complainers and trolls. They love to stir up stuff in prime forum for others. Looking at everything in a negative way and put some crazy spin on things.
I had my Prime since 12/22. An early BCOKA model and works great. Haven't had any real problems with it. Wifi works great on it as I compared it to my Ipad wifi and atrix wifi. Prime is right on par or better than my other units.
It is not being discontinued but im sure if it weren't for the Prime owners complaining, they would've discontinued it. There are clear wifi/gps problems with the Prime due to the aluminum back (hence why their new line has a rubber/plastic strip). There is no reason for ASUS to have so many lines of products with such little differences.
And I'm gonna make a bold guess here, but I think they would much rather replace the Prime with the TF700 and make it $500 instead of $600. The reason they are making it $600 is so that it will seem like a "premium" Prime instead of a Prime replacement. Placing the TF700 at $600 would mean that it surpasses the price of the iPad that has a even higher res display and LTE. And frankly, the general consumer is unlikely to buy a Android tab that is as expensive as the iPad let alone more expensive.

I second that. I believe tf700 will completely replace TF201.

i want to see the tf300 already! didn't it already go through the fcc?
My honest opinion is..
Why when the new models come out would they carry on making a Tablet that even Asus admits is flawed due to all Aluminium back.
Think Logically if the new models were available now & after reviewing options, would you purchase the TF201 ?
I do not think when new models are released there will be very little, if any demand for the Prime, so the Prime really is living on borrowed time.
As for Demandarins statement

Surely you are not that naive, Asus would not admit to prime being discontinued untill it has replacement in shops, they want to keep selling primes untill replacement is in shops. Admitting it was discontinued now would greatly affect Sales.
Within 2 or 3 months of the TF300/700 being released the Prime will meet a quiet quick demise.
PS
I own a prime & dock which I am quite happy with apart from useless GPS

Just your area. Prime is still available from Best Buy, not online, you just have to search local stores for inventory. Several around me are in stock atm.

I would easily purchase the prime over those 2. here's why. I don't want a lower spec 300 model. its less powerful, less battery life, display not as good. its regular ips, not ips+ like on prime. plus FCC report already shows 300 wireless performance can't be expected to be better than prime. especially with wifi/BT used at the same time. I don't want a tf-700 model because it will cost more. has less battery life than prime. plus, according to an email posted by another member is from Asus VP of technical whatever states no plans for u.s. release of infinity pad and it won't be released anywhere till the end of the year likely. check it out. so I have no reason to wait. fully satisfied with my prime.
we are still seeing new serial number Models pop up. we had Asus publicly and on this forum stating Prime will not be discontinued. AND YES, ASUS ADMITTED TO LESS THAN 1% OF UNITS HAVING ISSUES AND BEING RETURNED. It was stated on Cnet interview, which they said makes sense, and Gary explained it on this site. So no real concrete proof pointing to them discontinuing it. Come with some better info to back up the claim and then maybe me n others might believe it also. till then, just speculation and false rumors just like the other stuff floating around.
all their tablets now fit a particular price range including the prime. so I would easily take it over the others. its the thinnest and lightest. plus performs great all around. Plus Asus wouldn't happen to be working on a big announcement concerning prime if it were to be discontinued. they wouldn't even have bothered spending the money or research behind a fix to a product to be discontinued. they would just focus on future products instead and let prime die off.
better luck next time. Prime will live on. We will continue to knock all these false rumors down one by one..lmao
@demandarin
We will have to wait and see who is right
For me the I'm in the Prime is on its Way Out Camp. My guess is TF700 will come out costing $100 more & within very short time primes funeral & TF700's price will drop to what prime is now to compete with that fruity competitor.

You have my $5 on that.
Dem, if you look at it, there is definitely no place for TF201 in the pad line up. 3 of them overlap each other too much.

I do agree, the devices are spec similar. BUT at least its more of a major difference compared to Samsung lineup of tablets. they have all different lineup and spec similar. except for one thing, all their stuff is highly overpriced. at least Asus has a more reasonable priceline.
I can see prime ending around next winter or so. but by then that's the natural cycle of tablets ending anyways. Tf-700 has already been stated to not release till the end of the year. check the letter from Asus VP of something thread. so that gives prime plenty of time to still sell. by the time tf-700 finally comes out, it'll be the natural ending cycle for prime anyways. that's how technology is.
with the specs of the prime, it still has a place that fits in the lineup. regardless what some may believe. then you have the Asus built Google nexus tegra3 7in. tablet said to come out. ill say prime won't be discontinued anytime soon. for any product, there always come a time down the road when its discontinued. Wait till the announcement is released then tell me again does it make sense that they will discontinue the prime.
lets say they do discontinue it soon, so what..lol. it won't stop my Prime from functioning or performing great. it won't stop the major developement we already have for it. it still won't stop up getting updates, at least for a good while. So prime owners good either way. they already discontinuing the tf-101 less than a year from being released. to have it replaced by 300 model. tf-101 model just got ICS so it's still receiving support. Discontinued or not, Asus supports their products down the road. So I'm not worried anyways. I already plan on keeping my prime till Tegra4 releases at the end of the year. So once people finally able to buy infinity pad, Asus will announce the new Tegra4 powered Transformer pad..lmao. tegra4 is worth the wait if you already own a prime, IMO. nothing else announced to come out really grabs my interest. except to tegra3 powered Google nexus tablet built by Asus. that'll be so cheap ill get one anyways. most other new tablets coming out for android will be tegra3 powered anyways. there's like over 12 tablets announced and set to release eventually that will be tegra3 powered. they all are listed in another thread.
So ill take that bet also. if I lose, ill gladly admit I was wrong. but people make it seem like this will happen in the next month or something...lol. prime will be discontinued on its natural cycle ending date for tablets.

last i heard they were debating on tegra 3 vs something else for the nexus tablet. something changed?
also kindle fire 2 will be coming out around the end of the year with tegra 3. i guess we'll see how the battery life measures up. but if you are in the market at present for something with good battery life..the acer iconia a510 contains a 13 hr video playback battery life according to its specs.

hold up..First thing is first..lmfao. where in da world did you hear kindle fire2 will have tegra3 also? I've never seen any hint of that. could be possible but very shocking. I doubt they will use that chip as its out of their league..lol.
To your first statement, they were debating ln it at first. now this is all according to tech sites rumors and speculations. at first it was said to have tegra3. then we heard to cut down on price they were going to use a lesser spec chip. then just recently, all reports show them going back with tegra3 and they will city costs elsewhere, which I think is good idea. Google nexus tablet needs to be powerful and low priced. this is to look more enticing than kindle fire or nook. so the latest spec on nexus tablet is that it will be made by Asus and still will use tegra3.
I heard about that Acer battery life. we will have to see what the real battery life performance will be once it releases. Prime + Dock still has best battery life of all. 18+ hrs. estimated battery life combined. plenty of people came in this forum and said if you think Asus has problems, Acer is alot worse. it'll be like going from jumping into a small fire to jumping into a volcano..lol. so I'm very skeptical on Acer products based on what other Acer owners that passed through here have said.

if it was before prime was ever announced or released. sure. its cheaper priced. but I have no regrets on my prime purchase at all. it has performed to well for me. I wouldn't downgrade or get rid of my prime to get a lower spec 300. I do love the new colors though. I think the whole Asus line of tablets will be good. it will just depend on how much you can afford or willing tl spend. not everyone wants to dish out $500-700 for a prime or infinity pad. only reason I spent this much on a prime because I bought it as a Christmas gift to myself. plus I know its more than powerful enough that I won't need another tablet for a long time. Tegra4 powered Asus tablet is what I'm waiting for next. till then, prime does everything I ask of it just fine. This really is a great tablet. I never use my Ipad anymore. Prime is soo sexy Sleek n lightweight. lol
