Hi everyone,
I've already read some stuff about this question in here, but I haven't found the answer yet.
I have the Apple Keyboard from my iMac and I would like to use it with my TF. It connects but after that nothing happens. Is there any way to make it work?
(One more thing: it has a Portuguese layout...)
To the ones saying I should buy the keyboard dock: I run the whole Lisbon (capital) and there isn't a single one for sale.
Thanks in advance.
Your post is too vague to really start troubleshooting. Is the keyboard USB or Bluetooth? I'm assuming Bluetooth because you stated you don't have the dock which has the USB port...
So assuming you are using bluetooth:
Once you pair/connect the keyboard up, you have to MANUALLY select it from your list of keyboards so the OS knows what to get input from.
Apple is also known for using proprietary protocols to make things work so they don't work on other equipment. A keyboard shouldn't be difficult to work with.
Sorry for the lack of information.
Yes, it is a Bluetooth keyboard. It connects, but after that nothing happens. And the keyboard isn't listed in the "Input Methods". (I think it is like this, I use Android in Portugues)

Then it didn't sync properly. You may have to go into Bluetooth settings and select additional profiles. It should list a HID device or something... and be listed in your keyboard list..
Another thing, sometimes when new keyboards are installed, you have to go to language and input and enable it before it'll appear in the list.

I've checked Language and Input, it isn't there. It recognizes it as a keyboard and has the Input Method profile activated.
(And thanks for your help )
I have seen previous posts on this and the Apple keyboard and mouse will probably not work. Apple has changed something in the Bluetooth protocol so it wont be recognized as a 100% compatible Bluetooth device. That is why it will only work on a Mac or a in Windows with the Apple boot camp drivers.
is it possible that the keyboard still thinks it is paired to the Computer and therefore may not pair with another machine. This is just from research I did when trying to make the keyboard work with my Windows 7 PC. I tested it on work windows PC, then it wouldn't pair with Home windows PC. I took out batteries for a few mins then it worked with correct drivers.
try unpair the keyboard from Computer just to see if it will pair to the Transformer. in the long term this may not be suitable for you if you want to use with your PC and Tablet....
Ultimately, as mentioned above, it may need further driver support that is not available for the Transformer,
good luk
I tried using the Apple Keyboard myself via Bluetooth on both the Motorola Xoom and the Asus TF.....both gave exactly the same symptoms as the OP described.
You can get as far as selecting the passphrase/keycode in order to pair it and it's all looking rosy at that point but then......nothing.
I'm sure Apple has gimped it so you can only use it with their own hardware. Yet another reason why I won't use their kit. I want to choose what I do with the kit I own, not what Apple want to do with the kit I own. Frustrating at times.

Hi,
I'm going on my hols next week and I'm looking at this folding keyboard to use while I'm away, but I just thought I had better ask for your opinions on this keyboard. Basically, I just wanted to know if it will work with the HTC Touch HD?
Thanks in Advance,

Palm Wireless Keyboard with Bluetooth Wireless Technology - keyboard?
Are you serious? I think the name of the product speaks for itself.
Yeah, I was actually being serious was because i'm on a tight budget and it looked pretty much the same as the freedom bluetooth keyboard "http://www.moguldepot.com/freedom-universal-bluetooth-keyboard/14A42A229.htm" which supports both HID and SPProfiles, but obviously I'm wrong or is there some sort of driver out there? Sorry but I'm a bit of a noob with these kinda things.
Thanks again,
Grant
[SOLVED]
Hi again,
This keyboard has just arrived, at first glance I though I had no hope of getting this working. Anyways, the first thing I did was run the instasllation disc WITHOUT my touch HD being synced with the computer, this cause the installation .exe to be extracted to "C:\program files\microsoft activesync\palm HID keyboard" I manually copied that .cab file to my phone where I ran it, it succesfully installed I then opened the driver on the device and held the sync key on the keyboard to no avil they didn't pair. I did a soft reset of my device and it tried again... -jump for joy- it worked!! So if anyone is in need of a cheap bluetooth keyboard use the palm it works a treat!!! buy it from amozon heres the link www.amazon.co.uk/Palm-3245WW-Bluetooth-Keyboard-QWERTY/dp/B000OQ1XGO
Thanks,
Grant
P.S. My ROM is the stock unlocked WM6.1
I have this keyboard. When the HID driver is open I first put the keyboard in HID-mode (switch to the right). Then I tick the "active driver" box in the driver and directly after that I hold the B button on the top left of the keyboard until the driver responds with "connection" and the blinking led on the keyboard goes out.
Good luck!
I would love to be able to use my phone as a bluetooth keyboard and mouse for my media center (ps3, xbox media center), but cannot find any info about this..
I guess it would be up to the bluetooth drivers, and to my understanding, that was the big issue with bluetooth file transfer on pre 2.x android roms.
So i wonder, is this at all possible?
I am no programmer, so i couldnt possibly do this myself, so the question is merely hypothetical.
It would be nice to use the hero screen as a multitouch trackpad for my htpc with two finger rightclick and scroll as on my macbook but that would probably be asking for too much
I'd say it's possible, but I doubt that those BT profiles are included in the SDK, so it wouldn't be easy at all. It might only be possible on rooted phones.
A multitouch trackpad for a PC wouldn't be hard at all. I had an app like that (I can't remember what it was called, and it certainly wasn't as good as a mac's trackpad) but it worked over WiFi instead of bluetooth. I think it had keyboard as well... hmm..

Gmote does this, although i can't recall whether it supported MT. and i can't get the server to start on my pcs anymore, it is throwing some java errors, but i had it working in the past, and it was kinda decent as a touchpad.

Gmote has similar features, but it does act like generic bluetooth keyboard to be hooked with any bluetooth device, that support bluetooth keyboards. You have to install the server side part, which is not possible for devices like WDTV Live, which I would like to use.
If you want to control your xbox media center you could always search for xbmc-remote on the market.. I'm pretty sure it's for WiFi only though.. :/

As of now I could connect S60 device as mobile to laptop.
but its little bit unstable, let see how it goes with mobile as bt keyboard and mouse as well.
BlueputDroid does this. It is working for me to use my Backflip as a BT keyboard for my Nook Color (though it's a little quirky for me)

Damn doesnt work on Windows 7
Thanks for that info, I was wondering the same thign for the NookColor

Hey all, new here, havnt searched your entire site for this yet, found this thru the goggles so sorry if considered old thread....
Anyone have updated info on this? I want to use htc desire g7 on android 2.2. to type on xbox, anywhere on xbox, like an always on handy dandy controller...
I can only seem to dig up (and been trying for a little while now) info on tethering your xbox TO your 3g android...
or stuff kinda but not really...
thanks nd look forward to learning a ****load of stuff on this site!!

"GENERIC bluetooth mouse/keyboard"
Note "generic" word in the initial post. That means no server applications. I suppose it should work like this: I run the app on my android device and then my pc (or whatever) should be able to detect new bluetooth mouse/keyboard. Does such app exist?
I have searched google play and found nothing. Such app would be extremely useful, I would buy it immediately!

I think you mean it requires a client. If you want a service without a server, you are doing it wrong.

I get WARNING: BLUETOOTH STACK HAS DIFFERENT IMPLEMENTATION
I'm using the "LogiLink ID0052 Bluetooth Keyboard" on all my devices (http://www.fuxblog.de/2012/03/13/hardwareempfehlung-logilink-id0052-wireless-tastatur/).
It works like a charm on ICS (i remember the pain in the *peep* back in the gingerbread and froyo days): Connect, pair, use!
Even the german layout is perfet but unfortunately it doesn't have any Alt-Gr key, so it's said, that one has to use Alt-L on Android for the @-sign (which i've tested positive on Gingerbread and Honeycomb).
I've tried the External Keyboard Helper but the option to remap is "not yet implanted" so it's pretty useless.
Don't get me wrong, i can live with the workaround t use the onscreen keyboard for the @ sign (i don't write that much mails while i'm on the go) but it would be good if i COULD type it.
Anyone has any suggestions?
There are several threads asking how. I'm not going to do that, everyone who's tried so far has been pointlessly drowned out by "google is your friend" put-downs from those who lollingly claim to know but won't tell.
The stock ROM has no HID Bluetooth keyboard support. Something called a Bluetooth Stack has been reduced (or maybe Gingerbread was too early depending on which thread you read).
On the off-chance, I tried anything from Google Play claiming to enable an external Bluetooth keyboard just to see what they were about. It didn't take long, nothing did.
That leaves me thinking a custom ROM might have it enabled but I've failed to find one which mentions HID. Some appear to claim to be based on Android 3+ but I'm sceptical. The simple answer is to put this thread in place, with the following question, and hope the "google is your friend" fraternity choose not to engage in yet another demonstration of thread-wrecking.
Would anyone who has a S5830i running with an external keyboard like to reply here saying which ROM, App, keyboard and connection (USB, Bluetooth, WiFi) they employ?
Hello everyone
This is my first time to the forum
I recently got the 2016 honda civic and it comes with android auto and carplay (for iphone). The car is great however I noticed that there is an "apps" section in the IMID display. There's options to install apk files on a USB drive, browser/search when connected to WI-FI, and a downloader app to view progress of downloads. I've tried having the apk files on a USB and was able to see the apk files, but the "install" button was grayed out so I couldn't install it. I looked on the web for tutorials on getting around it. Since the IMID is linux / android based - I managed to find the android settings window, select "about", scrolled down to "build #", and tapped it 7 times to try and enter the developer mode. I get the countdown till I enter developer mode, but after the last tap, it asks to enter a "passcord" which I think is a typo for "password"? and no keyboard appears to do any sort of typing for the password. I wanted to see if anyone got further than I did.
Tried a lot of things to see if there was a way to access the developer mode or by pass the car system to be able to install apps. I've read it's futile but just wanted to give it a shot.
Thank you for any help / advice!

Hello,
I was digging in some more and found this under System>Legal Information>Open source licenses
When I selected "Open Source Licenses," it discusses the open source software and provides a link that I posted below.

I have some software background but this is beyond what I can understand for Linux/android coding language.
Has anyone heard of updates?
This code appears to just be for the Bluetooth protocol stack, BlueZ. I don't think it would be useful. Is there any other downloads in that text?

Unfortunately, I've tried digging in more, but haven't found anything besides the open source download link. But thank you for taking a look into what is in the source code. :good: All I know was that it was in C/C++ which I do not have a lot of expertise in following.
We just need to figure out how to get passed the "enter passcord" issue :/ or other methods of cracking into the system. I greatly appreciate the help
Technically, it is supposed to be possible to unlock the radio and navigation system through this website :

Apparently, the code seems to be unique for each vehicles... Now I don't own a Honda, so I cannot verify it myself.
Enjoy!

Thanks, I got my code, but now, how to type it in? It doesn't provide a keyboard.
Btw, the device has about 2G disc space.
Nice! Thanks for the info =) . For the keyboard entry, first thing I would try would be either trying to pair the radio with a bluetooth keyboard or simply plugging a USB keyboard in the USB connector inside the car. Chances are, it might be able to load the proper drivers by default if Android was not too much modified. Still, a long shot. Otherwise, I am rather surprise that there are no software keyboard on the device...

The unit has a software keyboard (it pops up in different places, like the browser for ex), it just doesn't pop up in this case. I guess it is disabled on purpose. I don't have a bluetooth or USB keyboard. Will have to search one. Actually, I'm thinking there should be some hidden USB port somewhere because the ones exposed are very limited.
Apparently if you

If it does work take your finger off the buttons and try again. To enter the developers menu select detail information & setting then hold the menu button. Maybe there is more to be done this way...?
The radio seems to be able to provide a lot of information about the car (a CANBus connection?). Let me know if it gets you any further =) . But still, the USB keyboard seems to me like one the most promising ways of inputing the code you obtained at the moment...
The radio code is only for theft protection. Normally the head unit stores the VIN for its original car and will lock if it gets put in a car with a different/inaccessible VIN. The code lets you unlock the head unit then. You can actually view it in one of the diagnostic menus.
I can confirm that a USB keyboard plugged into either of the two USB ports does not work. I have found out a few things, though. If you open the browser and go into Google or something so the on-display keyboard appears, you can then plug in the USB keyboard and the on screen keyboard will glitch. It will not allow you to type on the USB one. This to me seems like the device is purposefully recognizing the USB, then blocking it from being used. It would make sense to be that there may be a third, hidden USB somewhere that allows much more access.
I also have a 2016 Civic and went through all same things.
On another note, has anyone figured out how to do the brake bypass, how to ground it? I used the web browser by tethering my phone and youtube videos loaded fine, but it won't work if the car is not parked. Anyone know how to have functionality while the car is in motion?

It's more complicated than that I'm sure. I'm pretty sure it's getting speed sensor information. Also in the hidden diagnostic menu there are two entries that are something like VIDEO Moving or something like that and it's value is 0 meaning that it's off.

If you turn the power off then quickly back on, the button is no longer grayed out and you can select it but even still, the install still fails later on.
