As in will your phone blowup? Nope...but you will probably get your contract terminated for roaming.

Its fine to use as long as you don't go crazy with the roaming. I use 11115 all the time but when I'm in a bad reception area I will force roam. You just have to manage your usage.

I did it for a long time no issues at all. Had no service at home

It is 300MB a month or a percentage of total data.
From their TOS:
Sprint reserves the right, without notice, to deny, terminate, modify, disconnect or suspend service if off-network usage in a month exceeds: (1) voice: 800 min. or a majority of minutes; or (2) data: 300 megabytes or a majority of kilobytes.

Maybe try this thread, there is a different prl in there that utilizes a second band. Might bump you up enough to not need to force roam. Worth a shot anyway I just switched to it today and speeds and signal seem much better so far.

I HEARD from a Sprint rep that there's a hidden 5gb data cap on our accounts. And if you go over that, you run the risk of having your account terminated by sprint.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Maybe sprint does it, but I find it rather hard to believe they would send you any kind of alert other then a text message that you are over data.
Do you have any apps that may be monitoring your data? I know when I was on an iphone I had an app that would warn me if I went over 1gig so I didn't go over my 2gig cap.

What carrier are you with? Sprint doesn't have any cap on their data as long as you don't excessively roam

Well I've never heard of them sending a text message. I've heard of them calling a guy here at xda and just straight out telling him that he went over his data limit, and that they were terminating his contract.
As for an app that monitors your data, I'm not sure, they know how much data your using without having to use an app to moniter it. Whenever I'm home, I always use my WiFi to do all my downloading, cuz I don't wanna run into something like that.

There's no real cap on data. When I had my Optimus S I tethered everything to it because we didn't have internet st home at the time. I went well over 5 gigs for several months and never was told anything by Sprint. I would just ignore the message.

There is NO cap on normal data. Tell that to the people that use 50+ GB a month. There IS a cap on data roaming. They will terminate you for that.

That's not what the rep told me xhausx. She said that there used to be a data cap of 5gb, but she wasn't sure if it was still in affect.
But since I got you, explain how they terminated a dude's contract here at xda for using too much data? Now I'm not sure of how much roaming he was doing, but they called him and terminated his contract. The rep didn't mention anything about roaming, but it very well could be true. It's obvious that some reps don't know what their talking about, LOL.

It's true Sprint used to have that limit. It is no longer in affect though. Otherwise spirit wouldn't be advertising "unlimited ". The limit on data roaming is 300 MB a month. Easy to go over.

The only time I've heard of them terminating anyones contact it was because they where either using a verizon prl or seeding torrents from their phone, which is a breach of your contract. Although I'm pretty sure they do leave themselves a loophole saying they can terminate your contract anyone they want for no reason.
I'm guessing the OP is using a gsm evo since it's an actual pop up and not a call or letter.

i go over 5gigs all the time i am already over that right now and i still have 20 days left on my billing cycle and i havent got a message or anything from sprint

seems like they wouldnt be able to do such a thing on an account that clearly in writing has "unlimited data" on it....
i KNOW that i use well over the 5gb mark every month downloading all kinds of ****. never heard of this, never even got so much as an email from them about it.
every single rom i have ever downloaded... and there has been a good 2 gb worth in just the past week, all over the 4g connection, has been a ridiculous heap of usage all at once, never had any issues.
as for the OP, i have no idea. you obviously have some kind of restriction on your account, otherwise i would have seen this a long time ago. it's probably just a reminder from them letting you know that you are over. i would call them and ask them about it
I have seen all manner of message on Sprint...I'd keep an eye out for malware. OP, how picky are you about apps you install? Do you review the app permissions before installation?
If you aren't a paranoid wackjob about this stuff--or even worse you are "all meh" about it--I would backup your texts and VERY FEW VERY IMPORTANT apps and factory reset.
Though it sounds like it might be a consumption monitor with a default threshold notification...

like i said. call sprint.
I have been downloading well over 5 gigs a month well over a year..not once did they call or message me. But my roaming has always been 0 megabytes. I had a peak of 15 gigs a few months ago but average about 9 gigs a months. A lot of steaming and music. As far as a cap..not there for regular data on our phones now. However I am getting suspicious of the new items that are to be announced next month regarding 4g. Possibly, 3G will be capped and only 4g might be unlimited. Who knows.

isn't getting cancel a good thing?
I got a formal letter from Sprint a few months back stating that if my data roaming continued they'd cancel my account.
I was using the 11115 PRL + the Force Roam option I added in Warm TwoPointThree. About 2gb of data roaming a month. (98% of my data was roaming)
I have since stopped force roaming..
data roaming......that is something that seems the trend here.
i assume they ALWAYS warn before canceling right?

Whoa, this whole time I thought they did charge you. I stayed in a cabin in North Carolina once where I had no signal and I disabled my roaming in fear I would get a heavy bill when I got back. Thank you for the heads up.
If you get a voice roam charge call and they will wipe it no questions asked. They blabbed something about its an issue with their billing. Yep sure...

[Q]AT&T Throttle speeds

I received this text from AT&T today(see below)... Was wondering if they really do and how much they will throttle me.
The text
" ATT Free Msg: Your data usage on your 4G LTE smartphone is near 5GB this month. Exceeding 5GB during this or future billing cycles will result in reduced data speeds, though you'll still be able to email & surf the web. Wi-Fi helps you avoid reduced speeds. Visit www.att.com/datainfo or call 866-344-7584 for more info."
Thanks!

I'm using onavo personally. What about everyone else?
Unlimited grandfathered in plans get throttled at 5GB for 4G LTE data plans and I believe 2 or 3 GB for 3G & HSPA+ data plan.
If you have ICS, go to system settings then click data usage. You can set a data limit also. Its built in so you wont need to download an app.

From whatever the theoretical max bandwidth available for their area. Once they hit 5GB of usage, their speed was capped at .6 Mbps.
This was only one data point though, so as always, YMMV.
I hit ten plus gigs a month. They throttle at five but it's very easy to get un throttled. Just look into the ImEi trick . Basically call and update your imei with a 4g phone. Then call back with lte note and update. You are un throttled. Don't let them limit your data Usage.

I just got the same message on mine today. I changed the message to 8 gigs instead of 2. Let's see how long it takes me to reach THAT plateau!
i'm confused, mine shows 0.00MB for the last month and I know that's wrong since I use the internet all the time during lunch (non-wifi). Not that it matters on Sprint, but I'm trying to gauge usage if Sprint's NV rollout doesn't improve my service so I won't get screwed if I move to VZ.
gonna see if it's a known bug on MeanICS.

If you average more than 2GB on the go, you're screwed. $30 = 2GB, $50 for 5GB. (VZW)
$30 for 2GB is a joke IMHO. For limited data, $30 for 4-5GB sounds reasonable.
I laughed at AT&T when they told a guy he could use his WiFi when he was near his 2GB limit. He told them "That's great & all but are you going to be paying my home internet bill when I go over, what's the point?"

Evo LTE PRL Roaming Options

I've used CDMA Workshop to update my PRL using all the different PRLs posted on this site, from 00001 - 56xxx. I seemed to get the best results with 11119 last billing cycle. I roamed over 31GB but no letter from Sprint. So I was going to continue to take advantage of the speeds until they warn me.
However, when I tried yesterday, I get very slow speeds with all the PRLs and my Sprint data usage page always shows Sprint 3g & Sprint 4g numbers increasing, but not Sprint 3g roaming usage. What's weird is the phone NEVER connects to LTE service so how is my 4g usage amount increasing? I know some of the PRLs listed would not show the roaming indicator although I was indeed roaming. But the Sprint usage page only shows Sprint usage increasing.
Anyways, when I flash 11119 or any other PRL from the XDA site, do I also need to set the Roam Only option in Settings -> Mobile Data -> Roaming (MeanBean ROM & I'm not opposed to switching ROMs if that's the issue)? My current Sprint PRL via Update PRL is 24012. Should I just keep the Sprint PRL and set the Roam Only option for Mobile Data? I tried it briefly and it switches my connection to 1x. Will 1x still count as 3G roaming? It's slow as heck so I can't imagine 1x data usage pushing my usage numbers up very high.
Only my 2nd post so forgive me if I posted in the wrong area, asked stupid questions, etc. Blast me and I'll get it all right the next time ... I promise!!

Technically Sprint CAN charge .25$ per megabyte over 300mb usage of off-network roaming, by the way That would be quite the bill you'd have there. Sprint is tricky and unpredictable in most cases. I'd be careful. Just my .25$. Lol.

oh I understand that but 1.5gb isn't that much in the grand scheme, I would think most people here can hit that with or without a vzn prl, but its a far cry from 100gb

There may be a provision that Sprint *can* charge you extra for roaming, but I've never heard of it actually happening to anyone in practice. It seems to be standard procedure that they just drop you after a certain amount of time of excessive roaming, and they give you advance notice that you're being dropped. I've actually seen a copy of the letter they send. In my personal experience, I've never been charged extra for roaming despite routinely going over their 300mb cap.
