[Q] ICS or CM9 Port? LG Ally? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is there any developer that is willing to port ICS or CM9 to the LG Ally? i would much appreciate it, this phone is becoming dead and i want it to keep it alive. the AndroidForums site are doing there best to keep development, i think someone should make a Ally thread Thanks for any support or Developers that want to develop.

Thats a pretty old phone and I highly doubt you'll ever see an ICS port. Even if you did it would run pretty poorly on those specs (600mhz processor and 256MB of RAM). You may be able to find CM7 for your phone which would actually be usable.

A Froyo ROM would be snappier on a lower end phone, GB would manage, ICS would run like crap.

You mind posting a link to a CM7 port?

You need at least 512mb of RAM for a workable ICS port.

There are actually lot of roms running ICS with much less than 512MB of ram and Cyanogen has been quoted to say that you need 256MB, not 512. My Fascinate, which has 384MB of useable ram and is running the newest version of AOKP, runs better than my brother's stock Galaxy Nexus which of course has 1GB. It's just not as simple as saying it doesn't have enough ram.
The problem with the Ally is that it does not have a gpu good enough for any sort of hardware acceleration.

PSA: you are all wrong
The Lg vortex shares the same processor as the ally and the optimus v, both phones run cm9 perfectly smooth, my sister is getting a ally within the next week, i will work on an ics port

Wow...

If I don't make one, nobody will. There are like 5 people in the world with this phone. Even Android 4.0 ICS is old. Get the LG Enact if you need a keyboard.

Why not? This thread will probably be made a sticky!
The 1Ghz rumor was fabricated by LG so they dont sandbag sales of their Optimus line. Ive booted the gingerbread build on my EVO and its still very choppy on that. I also have an overclocked slide that very often gives better benchmark scores than my evo because of its smaller screen. That being said, I have no doubt that 2.3 will run very nicely on the slide. In fact the sense rom running on my slide now is MUCH smoother than the Sense HD rom on my EVO. Still, the slide probably wont see 2.3 for months so I wouldnt sweat it
Don't worry guys, I'm working on an Ice Cream based ROM. It has a revamped 3D UI that runs faster than jdkoreclipse!

I like your positive attitude BUT.
MIUI is designed to run on ARMv7 phones and Legend is using an ARMv6 processor which is already crippling slow and a pain in the arse.
That's just not it. It's also designed to run at 480x800 or higher and our Legend is running at a measly puny 320x480.
So yes, you will never see MIUI running on a Legend ever never ever never!

No NEON. IMO, that is a fail toward Nvidia since they are supposed to be "revolutionary" and all. The atrix didnt have support for a lot of apps for a long time and became annoying as hell. it needed so much optimization as well since Nvidia didnt do much at all lol. The only good thing about it was the games, which our snapdragons are just as good.. Maybe it got better with drivers, im talking quite a few months back. whenever i got my sensation from the atix i was so happy. (i had CM 7 on the atrix no motocrap) so cant blame it on bloat lol. the g2x was a fail because its plauged with so many issues. makes our screen bleed look perfect. people who complain about it should go to that phone xD

Post abt your first droid & os version

Hi guys,
This is a thread where u can post about :-
- the the first android phone u ever used
- What all versions of android u have gone through
- Features u miss currently on your droid....
- Any special thing or event associated with your first droid..
It will be fun to know who all r loyal followers of android...
My first android phone was Spice MI-300..
I had used android since donut i.e android 1.6, eclair, froyo, gingerbread, n ICS (thanks to lupo)
Its really a big improvement considering from where android started and its getting better n better...
My first is O1
From froyo to GB to ICS
Mine was LG 500 with froyo 2.1
mine is LG P500 with 2.2 froyo. I miss the good ol' stable froyo days but current cm7.2 and oxygen are up to mark(still missing the awesome stock LG camera app, but I can do without it )
First android: Optimus one, with Froyo.
Gone through Froyo, Gingerbread and ICS.
Not missing much. Hardly use the camera. Having the Wi-Fi hotspot working in ICS would have been nice.
Currently have my eyes on Huawei Honor. The specs look nice. I'm pretty sure devs will wreak havoc with this one once they get their hands on it.

Yup around 2yrs ago i got myself Spice Mi-300.. i bought spice coz at that time it was the best Android Phone at the budget of 10K while htc tattoo with 528Mhz costed about 14000... Mi-300 had pretty much same specs as of O1 just less RAM n a smaller battery but it boasted a 5MP camera with flash... I miss that sometimes though
I switched to O1 coz it was certain that it will be upgraded to GB and 512 MB RAM
Spice Mi-300 was shipped with Donut and as that was my first smart phone i was just too amazed to see how android worked...just too smooth n fluid even on donut, then after 2-3 months as promised by the company it got upgraded to Eclair and i got first look of live wallpapers
I even rooted that phone but i was too Noob at that time, I flashed a rooted custom firmware and all worked fine..
Then i got to know about cyanogenmod and found out that Mi-300 was one of the variant of Commtiva z71, at that time froyo was very new so it was not that stable, but i didnt read that n flashed, i started getting random reboots and also camera didn't worked.
Then i got a patch for camera but didn't knew that it was to be flashed to recovery, so i just extracted it and placed the files at respective places and the outcome was it never booted again..
I gave that to service center and after abt 20 days they fixed and gave me back..
After that i sold that n bought O1 n decided never to mess with my phone again ....but here i am flashing all possible things on Tiny O1 ..
Looking back really makes me feel what a noob i was..
LG O1

T-mobile G1, cupcake than donut. I used earlier versions of cyanogenmod.. G1 was the US's very first phone to run android... when the nexus one came out, everyone wanted one.. developing on g1 was easier, HTC has always been good at releasing drivers

I think you need to have higher random read/write speeds for using swap. But these speeds are very less for class 10 cards.
