Wireless Video Out to Samsung TV - HTC EVO 3D

I had my Samsung TV (connected to network) on, but I had not got around to turning on the cable box yet so it was just a blank screen. I was in the Galley looking through my pictures and I started to watch a video of my son playing with the dog in the yard. While the video was playing I hit the menu button and it gave me a few choices and one was pick player. It gave me the choice to watch it on the Evo 3D or TV 50C550. I picked the TV and then suddenly I was watching my son on the TV and I was able to adjust the volume on the TV with the phones volume key.
I play with this phone everyday and to find another unknown (to me) feature was awesome. I guessing it has to be some type of DLNA protocol going between the phone and the TV. Now, too bad it couldn't give me the choices to pick a player when I'm watching netflix.
This is awesome

Absolutely.

Cool feature. I don't use it much though.

I was visiting my mom and she has one of those internet radios (Philips i think) and you can do the same and don't have to approve the playback on the device as long as it is in the same network of course. It just instantly plays whatever the EVO sends out.
Freaked her the f*** out for s***s and giggles when she was sitting next to it reading the newspaper.

[Q] No signal from atrix to philips tv

I have been trying since day one to get the webtop hack to work with my Philips Flat TV but continuously get the "no signal" message when I swith to HDMI. Today I used three different TV's to show videos to friends and family and never had an error, it was actually really cool to finally play with webtop/entertainment center, I felt like a fat kid in the candy store After this I figured that my phone has no problems, it has to be my TV so I tried once more earlie to no avail. Has anybody else had any problems with the Atrix to a Philips? This is driving me up a wall!
We have two of these tv's in the house, I found its working fine on the other so I swapped them
This TV is on HD-D whereas the other was on HD-A. Im not quite sure how to change the HD channel as it wouldnt let me, either way, I found the answer to my own question.

3vo freaks out: not enough RF shielding (ended up being headset ctrl signals)?

Tonight I was pulling up songs for my daughter to sing at karaoke (they didn't have a good selection) and every time I approached the table with the amps and sound equipment, the 3vo freaked out. First it started backing out of YouTube. Then in the middle of YouTube it called the first number on my call log: wasn't even touching the phone. Then I tried music from the media player and it was skipping forward/playing fast. Finally I move the phone away from the equipment and set it to the side and it started behaving.
Seems like the 3vo needs better RF shielding. I was still getting a 3G signal yet the phone was losing it's mind anywhere near that audio equipment table. I've done the same thing with my Evo 4G with no problem.
Mike
Shouldn't really bring a phone near audio equipment anyway. Att phones make the equipment go crazy whenever the phone gets a text.
How close were you when it started though?

Interesting I am a sound engineer have not had that problem yet I work for a large church and been laying the 3d down on the Midas Desk we have not affected by that or the MediaMatrix NION, TC Electronics EQ Stations, numerious effects processors that are anywhere from 10 to 20 years old. Might be the way they shielded the audio equipment if you could let me know what type of equipment was in that area I might be able to tell ya what is happening a lot of the lower end equipment is not so good on the shielding.
I don't have a problem around my sound system and amps. Maybe the shielding issue is with the audio equipment.
I've noticed that my phone does the same things also. It does it when any head phones are plugged in then moved slightly. It does it every time too. Launches voice command then calls most recent number on my dail list. Quite annoying.

Sounds like it may be more of a problem with consumer grade equipment, than pro gear or low end pro gear. I will have to test that on a few other sound systems

Yes, YES! That's exactly what it was doing! I sat at the table in the restaurant and had everything queued up on YouTube (that's where all the karaoke song versions are). The song would be queued up and I made sure the whole thing loaded (bar got all the way to the right) so I knew it wouldn't stutter during the song. Then I'd take it up and as soon as I plugged the headphone thing in (which was connected to their amp of course) that's when the phone went crazy. Sometimes it'd back out of YouTube. Once it actually placed a call and I had to hit "end call". And once... it kept bringing up the voice command menu on top of YouTube. Did that over and over until I had to back out and let someone else sing until I could regroup.
So it seems the problem might be the headphone jack and some type of interference coming through that.
Mike
Every HTC phone I have owned has had issues with the headphone jack making the phone go crazy. You're definitely not the only one experiencing this. My 3D is completely useless using the headphone jack even if I leave the phone alone and don't do anything other than press play in the music app. It just skips around, opens different apps and calls people whenever it wants to.
I use headsets with my phone all the time, from cheapy ear buds to Bose noise canceling headsets and my phone works flawlessly. No weird behavior. You may want to exchange your phone before your 30 days are up because that is not normal.
Sounds like the machine your plugging into is sending current or interference back to your phone and messing it up.

Any headsets or earbuds work fine. The problem only happens when you hook the phone up via headphone jack to some amp: receiver, guitar amp, etc. I'll try the headset blocker app. Sounds like it might work... but in the year I owned my old Evo 4G I hooked it up to dozens of different amps. Never a problem.

Wow,
I thought i was going crazy, but my phone is displaying the exact same symptoms as you two. It's fine on normal headphones/earbuds, but when i hook it up to a tape adapter (work truck), it keeps launching voice command, mystically fast forwarding through songs, and redialing my last placed call - very annoying!!!

Installed it but I guess I have to give up and ask: which way is on? I put the widget on my home screen and it goes on there looking grayed out. If you click it, the icon (lettering) turns white and a green bar appears on the bottom of the widget. Click it again and it grays out. All the time it says "Block Headset".
WTF does that mean? Is it showing the current state... or is it telling you that if you press it, it will "become" that state? I'd rather know before I have to test it only to find out it's the opposite of what I thought. A simple checkbox on the widget with a check mark that appears/disappears would have been a lot better.

Thats because your amp equipment is either: A: Feeding back to the evo, and every other device you are connecting to it... (Aka, Enjoy broken stuff eventually when it sends a good jolt to it)
B: Your equipment does not support the control-talk interface that most modern cellphones have now days not only allowing for audio, But control signals to be passed to the device through a new third contact. (Example: Take any iPhone earbuds, Or other headphones with a mic in them, And examine them next to the plug for your amp, or just standard headphones without a mic... Two Contacts become Three...)
C: Both of the above, Amp lacks third contact, Feedback hits evo through the third contact in the phone which is now connected twice to the same contact on the plug.
Side Note, I have never had issues with low grade equipment and either my Evo 4G, My Evo 3D, My HTC Vogue, Mogul, or Apache because I have tested the plugs for feedback... Grounded Outlets are your friends, Also, Un-Overloaded ones help alot too... Also Sometimes, Crap wiring in a place is just going to f*** with equipment no matter what you do...
Only GSM phones have that issue... I've been an audio engineer for the last 8 years...

It's little different but,
My phone was plugged to the AC charger, and whenever I moved my USB cable it went absolutely crazy.
I re-plugged micro USB cable and it didn't happen again WTH?
Hey guys, I had the same issue yesterday when I hooked my phone up to my car's Aux port. It gave me problems for about 2 minutes going completely crazy. I than exited the music program and unhooked my phone.
I than hooked my phone back up, went back into the music program and havent had the problem happen again.
Wanted to report that my wife told me her 3vo went bananas when she hooked it to the Aux jack on our GMC Acadia's radio. Songs fast forwarding, making calls, etc. I confirmed it by trying it first (couldn't get even one song to play) and then I downloaded headset blocker from the market and turned it on. Not a problem since! So headset blocker seems to be the solution but the bottom line is that these 3vo's seem to be overly sensitive to getting random commands via the headset jack. And we've been using standard 3 prong cables. I still think it's a problem with the phone, but at least headset blocker is a workaround.

mhl trouble

I got my mhl addapter but it is not working correctly. I hook the addapter to the hdmi cable then hook the power using the cable and power supply that came with the phone and finally connect to the phone. I do hear a beep and see the phone charging so i know the power connection is good. Most of the time i dont get anything at all in the monitor, sometimes all i get is a flashing of the screen as if a signal is coming and going and in a handful of instances it had work but it would play video very chopy at both the hdtv and the phone screen, like a frame every 3 seconds. I try my larger hdtv and exibit the same behavior execpt that i never got it to work. I realize the addapter migth be defective but in the other hand i might be doing something wrong. The videos i tried both works fine in the phone by itself. One is off youtube and one is a movie saved in the sd card.
Thanks!

I have trouble getting mine to connect to my monitor. It takes me many tries but when I finally get it to work I don't have choppy video like you are talking about...everything runs smooth.
You have debugging off, correct? Other than that it may be your adapter as mine has yet to give me a problem on any TV
The debugging set to on was causijg the lag in the video. Thanks. After i got that out of the way i played with it more and realized the reason i dont get video has to do with the usb cable. I can play with it and if i put pressure in an upward direction it works. So i know i do have a defective addapter. I will try other usb cables but this is a good working cable and brand new. Another issue worth to mention is how horrible the video quality is. It looks like real redish, no sharp at all. It reminds me the old time when we only had over the air tv signal and you were getting a signal from a distant station. Is this normal? I wasnt expecting 1080 full hd signal but if this is the way it is supposed to work then maybe i dont need this addapter after all. Anyone care to coment on their video quality?
I tried at work on my pc monitor with a hdmi to dvi adapter. I had no problem getting the adapter to work continuously but video got choppy again even without debuging on... I will do some more testing later...
hate to bump this but if anyone using mhl can chime in and let me know how good/bad is their video quality on a 32 inch (or higher) hd tv I will appreciate it much. If what I saw in mine is the way it is supposed to look then I might as well save my money and watch whatever I am watching in the phone itself....
Thanks!
I'm having the same issues, too. Would like to know if anybody knows how to resolve this.

I hook mine up to my 55in LCD every once in a while and the videos play at almost the exact quality as what's on the note's screen. The only difference I've noticed is the picture on my TV isn't as bright as on the note when playing videos.
Mine is good from time to time on a 42" screen, but the sound cuts out sometimes, and occasionally static goes across the screen.

So I should see good quality... Tonight I tried my work monitor. I hooked a hdmi to dvi adapter to the monitor, hook the hdmi cable to it, then hook the cable to the mhl adapter, hook the power, then hook to the phone... It worked great, the audio was coming out of the phone which I was expecting to have to bluetooth to my pc to use it for audio as you loose your audio feed when going hdmi to dvi. Videos were looking great, no lag in audio, no skipping or anything. I played youtube videos off dolphin, stock browser and the youtube application with no problem. Played different videos just to make sure it was not the content. Then played some of the movies on my sd card. All great. The only issues I would have is at times I lost all video for several seconds (total back screen) and sometimes when I loose video I would get snow. I rearranged my monitor set up since I use dual monitors at work and wanted to have use the dvi connection on the secondary monitor instead of the first. Then I tried one more time to make sure it was all the same before heading and trying at home... It started failing the same way as at my home. Video will play a frame every 2 or 3 seconds, no audio and sometimes not video at all...
I am going to change this adapter, any of you that is having success care to share who did you bought yours from?
Thanks!
OK, no vodeo for me, checking why not.

Got video and good sound, works with AnyNET+
Im happy for you. Where did you got yours from? I am expecting anoter adapter tomorrow from a different company and it is also supposed to work with anynet+. The seller that sold me this one just returned my money and told me I did not have to return it so I still have it. Pending if the other adapter does the same or not...
Got the new one today, it does work on both of the hdtvs at home with no problems. Anynet does not seems to work on the 20 some inches tv but It does work for my camcorder. At work it didnt work right until I turn off/on the phone, then it stopped working when I tried again after the phone went idle and I switched the monitor to the pc while I was working a trouble. Now it wont work at work even after a reboot. I get that one frame per every2 seconds problem. I am going from a hdmi cable to a dvi connector but it did worked fine before..

EVO 3D to in-dash DVD unit?

A friend of mine is giving me this:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/DVD-Receivers/AVH-P6600DVD
is there any simple way of connecting my evo into it terms of video out? like so i could watch my netflix app or look at my google maps through it?
It looks like that only has a composite a/v input. So you will have to get the MHL adapter, and hdmi cable, and a downconverter. A decent downconverter will run at least 200 bucks.

Why not?!? Lol. The main thing I was thinking was to be able to display my Google maps for gps.

[Q] is there a way to turn the phone screen off while outputting to a tv via HDMI?

And then what
So, does no one own Blu-Ray players or have a network storage anymore?
I thought the HDMI option was more for "hey guys, i recorded this today" or "hey guys, look at this game I got". I don't think it's supposed to be used as a replacement for your home entertainment center...
I think they also leave the screen on so you can control it and move between things. I don't think the original purpose was to hook it up and watch full length movies from it.

What about if you want to rent movies form Sony Entertainment Centre or Netflix etc and stream them via the phone to large screen Tv. I have done this many times and works perfectly, no longer restricted to other gadgets and TV companies programmes. The S is a star and very versitile so why not hook it up to your TV.
Good point, here it's not available
Then be prepared to have another cord plugged into the wall, because I am not so sure there's a way to disable that screen.
The screen is there just for controls I think, so you may have no other option but to do that for the time being, because if you do manage to disable the screen, you will lose your controls.
It would be ideal, in my case, I use HDMI to see football or sports when it is paying (so I use sopcast or streaming), thats the reason I really want to turn off screen, but I think theres no way...

But it shouldn't be this way. With that's specs of Xperia S, we are able to watch full lenght movies, so we should be able to turn screen off (by pressing i.e. Power button), so if you want to pause it, would need to press Power button to turn screen back on and pause it, that would take only 2 sec to do that (considering you can't do that using TV's remote control).
How does it work on Xperia Arc and other phones with HDMI? Is it the same?
Satio arc and neo work the same way i tested.
And other brands i think do the same.

I connect my phone to a pioneer AppRadio via an HDMI cable, so no it doesn't have a Blu-Ray player, just plays apps on phone, music, navigation and internet. I control the phone with through the radio so no need for phone screen to be on. I've heard leaving on with the same picture can burn in the screen.Anyway it would be very useful to turn off the screen on phone.
