Box app (50gb free) - Vibrant Themes and Apps

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.box.android
Box.com
Its similar to dropbox but I've been happier with Box. Plus you get 50gb free if you sign up by March 23!!! Don't hesitate!

Ya, I signed up for Box as it seemed like a good idea at the time. Turns out there are a few caveats to their 50GB.
1. There's no desktop client for personal accounts. You have to sign up for the business or enterprise level starting at $15 a month. Without a desktop client, uploading files one at a time via the web or phone makes the 50GB superfluous.
2. There's a 10GB monthly bandwidth limit. So, even if you COULD spend the time to upload 50GB in files one at a time it would take you 5 months to get them all uploaded. This is assuming you never download any since that presumably goes against your bandwidth number too.
So, it sounded good at the beginning. Now... not so much.
In short, it's not like getting Dropbox with 50GB of space.

You can upload multiple files at a time with this app and you can easily get on the site from your computer to manage files. Of course some people aren't going to think this is anywhere near dropbox but it works well for me and could work well for others. Worth a try if you ask me.

ASUS Webstorage - Anyone Using It?

I am a Dropbox and Skydrive user but I've been tempted to subscribe to ASUS Webstorage. The prices seem very good for unlimited and 4GB file size max. I've seen a lot of complaints about speed but their privacy policy seems fair and non-intrusive. Just wanted to see what other XDA members thought of it.
Check out "Box"
If you search around a little you can find a free 50gig account
And a how to. yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

BUT
Do a little research and you will see they have a low, low, low upload limit per file. Like less than 100mb. To get more, you pay. Many of us have files to upload way bigger than 100mb or want to upload blocks of files (like vids or MP3), so Box.com is proving to be a bit of a joke to many.
Anyway, I have not used the Asus storage ... yet. I understood we get it free for a period of time - like 1 year - and then it costs. So, I was not going to set it up until/unless I really had a need for it.
I am all about DropBox - they have a good app, free to signup, you can earn more and more free space.
In a word... It sucks.
I have the "Unlimited" Asus WebStorage for one year that I got with the TF101, and an 8 Gb. "Eternal" one with the Prime. Wish I could combine for an "Eternal, Unlimited" account, LOL!
The documentation is freaking horrible, there are huge issues with it, it is clunky, poorly integrated, and the desktop client is a resource hog. But, hey, it's free, right? Not so right. I played with it obstinately sure I could overcome it's clunkiness, or that they would fix it (They ARE fixing it, at a good pace, but there is SO much wrong, I couldn't stay & wait. Uninstalled from all my desktops. I still use some of the backup capacity. Check this out: You can backup (if you have the unlimited account) ALL of your PC's to it, and it sets up a directory structure that matches your desktop. Not terrible, but upload speeds sucks on most cable providers, mine being Timeneverending uploads Warner and it literally takes the better part of a week to fully seed the backup.
Then the WebStorage, you can upload and sync, but cannot move stuff around from one online folder to another, and have to pick ONE FILE AT A TIME to upload and download. Yep. Not even a folder at a time, unless you use the backup tool which doesn't work well for online storage and easy retrieval.
They may have fixed a good deal of this, it HAS been several months since i threw in the towel. I may check it again, but the support site is all terribly translated to English, it was so bad, I made some corrections, and they put MU SUGGESTIONS on the site, asking me "What else needs correction?"
Well, I am flattered you trust my English skills, but since I am not on the payroll... Suggested they hire a Proofreader with a Masters degree in language, and English as their first language.
I mean really: Asus wants to compete with Apple, Samsung etc., they need to start projecting a professional image, and get their marketing materials to stop saying things like:
"No matter it's the sweet honeymoon pictures, hardworking reports, music that you can't live without" ? Huh?
"Upload and share that treasurable pictures all at once even there are thousands of them!"
It's funny, but not THAT funny, and definitely UN funny for a paid service....
I think these issues are ALL fixable. The question is how much Asus will invest in resources to get these things in order.
EDIT: So I decided to revisit the WebStorage site, and, instead of downloading one of the Windows Clients (Sync only, Windows [Advanced], and Windows [Server]) I just used the Web Client. It will not let you transfer a Folder in any way, so I had to manually create a matching folder structure, then, I selected all of the files in one folder that wasn't too big (some 20 or so files) After 3 files it crapped out, and what was weird is, it only uploaded the once I could see in the scroll box, so I tried again, and guess what? As long as I kept the next file to upload visible (by scrolling to keep in in view) it worked, ANYTIME I let it get out of site, the dowloads would stop. Oh, and it has this flashy animation that looks like water filling a file folder for each upload. I suspect that is part of root cause, it might need to run the silly animation to continue the script, and if it's not visible it doesn't run.
Worse, there is no way to expand the scroll box so you could make all files visible. See what I mean? Free is no bonus when something is ore trouble than its worth. I give up.
Thanks for the early insights...yeah, I got one of the 50GB Box accounts but it seems clumsy. Dropbox is super smooth and easy. ASUS Webstorage seems intriging, mainly just to store my multimedia (pics, videos, music.)

How does one get an Eternal account? I have the Prime.
And thanks for your comments. I still may try it out, especially if I get the "Eternal" option.

Free 50GB w/Box.net

Now through March 23rd anyone that downloads the Box.net app and logs in gets upgraded to 50gb of free storage (normally 5gb) and the maximum file upload size gets bumped up to 100mb (normally 25mb). Plus, it is for life and never expires.
Check press release here: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/box_offers_50gb_free_cloud_storage_android_users
Works like a charm. Thanks for posting
very cool man. thanks
Wonderful, thanks
Maybe I'm a little paranoid but does anyone else ever wonder why they are giving away so much free space for you to store your stuff?
I dont use any online storage sites only because all my personal stuff stays in my control. Makes me wonder what I'm missing out on though. What does everyone keep online? MP3s, pictures, "personal" videos, work files?

Because with the 200mb max single file upload limit it is incredibly hard to use up all 50gbs for the average user

Or so they can suck you in and get you on a paid account. Once you've taken the time to up 50GB of stuff, if you need more space you're more likely to stay where you are than go somewhere else and start over.

All of that plus they want users. They have services running alongside their storage that brings them revenue. That's why they give it out so freely, they cleared out quite a bit of the normal overhead costs and can afford to grow via promotions as an additional service of a phone. I got my 50 gigs last year when they welcomed LG users, all LG users.
Got on there with my Optimus, haven't used it since day one. I'd just been using Spider-oak, I don't like streaming content but it does offer sharing content which I do need in a service. It did exactly wha I want with a high level of security. Love them. I'm a fringe user though, dropbox, box.net, etc will be the best bet for most users.
kamsahamnida amigo!!
I love to use this App
It's very easy to share file

Martian Imperium is back...sorta

I am now personally hosting the site but may have lost the original domain name. All Imperium services and ROMUpdater servers are now gone and the new site is very limited. I now no longer personally host any files and have found a third party service that pays me per download. The following projects are now dead:
WebTop enable devices TabletDock
WebTop enable devices CarPC
Remote Access ROM Development Service
Anything Galaxy Tab
Anything GS2
Anything G2X
Anything not Photon related
The Martian Imperium site is now closed and in the process of being purged. In all likelihood there will be no new website and unless somebody here has a copy, all the files will disappear as well. iPage was the cheapest host I could find for the bandwidth users were pulling (500GB-1TB a month and over 1000 DL's a day). In addition to my own work, I was hosting all the SBF's, some high demand older ROMs and kernels, root-unlock-relock and other Photon related files.
I looked at alternate places to host but Mediafire would cost almost ten times as much and dropbox almost three times as much just to host files. I even covered the site in ads to help cover expenses with no real success. The core factor was that my wife and I went over the receipts yesterday and I have spent something like $1000USD this year in equipment and hosting. If I had received a $0.01 donation (after paypal takes it's cut) for every unique download I actually would have made money and been able to continue development. There were many things I had planned to release this year but as it stands I am leaving development and guide writing.
To those that have donated to me in the past I'm very sorry about this and will return your donations if you would like.
Thank you for the explanation, and all you've done. The sad fact is most don't send donations. Over the years that I've been on xda, I've only done it a half dozen times. I'm sure I should have done it more. I know development won't get you rich, but it shouldn't cost you. Thanks again for all you've done. Webtop and imperium are the ****!

What started all this was a "We need to have a talk" email from my host. They had been very forgiving about the bandwidth usage but had enough and it was upgrade to business class service or leave. Meanwhile this is what I was working....
Remote Access Development Services. It's only a proof of concept at this stage but it's free to any dev that wants it.
I actually might be able to help you out if you think you can keep it below a TB a month.
Let me know and Ill go back and check my usage to see how much bandwidth I have left over. I think I get 2 TB a month and I dont believe Im quite using one.
I can help you out in the hosting department. My hosting is unlimited space and unlimited bandwidth per month. I use IX web hosting. If you would like, I'll throw your files up on my site so that anyone that needs them and get them... I can upload them and you can hotlink to them...
Let me know... I'm not able to donate $$$ (due to the fact that i don't have much myself) but I can donate space and bandwidth. The Photon 4G needs good developers, and I'd hate to see you go...

Just trying to help out...
But, you might want to check out there policies. There unlimited is truly unlimited... according to their TOS. That's why I went with them. Currently I have 5.91GB of used space and 518GB of bandwidth used this month... about average for me...
That's some BS right there. I've never used any of your work, but I've seen you around. (I have an Electrify, I can't use a lot of Photon stuff. Plus it's locked... 2.3.5.)
Seems like there should be a way, in this day and age, to croudsource the files somehow. Multiple dropboxes/sugar syncs/box.nets, or a torrent with a bunch of us hosting all the files. In fact if you can get just a few people with fast Internet at home to leave their BitTorrent client running, seeding your torrent, people could get that just as fast as they could from direct download. Linux uses BitTorrent, couldn't you do something like that? Hell, I only have 1.5MBit DSL, which lets me upload about 30kB/s before web browsing starts to lag, but I'd help seed. I don't have a Photon, but Electrify development kind of depends on Photon development.
Best of luck to you.
To All,
I appreciate the offers for file hosting but as the number of projects increase so would the bandwidth. The main source for the, to be honest, leeching is from locations outside xda. For example, China is responsible for a very large portion of it and have found hotlinking of my files in a couple of sites.
I was able to sell of some things today and have buyers lined up for others. I may be able to continue but at a much slower rate and will have to kill a number of pending projects.
I have found a possible solution but have had to kill a number of services. It also involves a very limited access website and file hosting has been moved to a service suggest to me by one of my users in Russia. I don't know how well this will work out as I will have to remove the update service from all future releases.
Please try the new site and let me know if it works. For now it's just a copy of the old site with a bunch of broken stuff. Unlike the old site, live site updates are now impossible and can only handle a limited number of connections.

You can say it's BS but there were a lot of things on the site the most free services do not allow. In addition to the site itself it had live support chat, a forum, an update server (think ROM Manager) as well as the entire Photon file archive and my own projects.
Multiple file hosting accounts makes file management a job unto itself. Torrents have been tried before with very little success.
Like I mentioned above, I have found a possible solution that may or may not work out but have had to kill a number of services.
I will be more than happy to do something as simple as setting you up a ftp server. You would have full access to your personal "ftp folder" on my hosting server... If interested, PM me and ill set it up...

I appreciate the offer but would consider it boorish to take you up on it.
Frankly, I think it's unnecessary for you to even consider making the offer, but not surprising given the nature of your efforts to help and support this community.
Let's just say that this is taking the concept of giving back to others a little too far.
I start my new job this Monday and once my money flows, I'll start donating to those who deserve it, i feel bad but yea glad to see your still around.
i have most of the same files (old ones at least) hosted on holylivingfuck.com in my sig, i do however have a new host (seperate from hlf) which ill be uploaidng all my copies onto as well. if you could be so kind as to update the guide with the links ill be sending you that would be awesome
trying to make sure that we dont have any lost files due to domains etc

Damn unfortunate for the Photon community if we lose you. Definitely one of the very helpful devs out there. I do understand what you mean...lots of people like to use the work...not many understand what it costs you in time and energy, not to mention cash money. Best of luck to ya!

50gb box for G2

there is a promotion for G2 users.
get box com from play store, sign up from G2. earn 50gb free storage.
thanks reviews are not to great: file size upload limit and no linux client.

Have had a couple of free 50gb accounts from other devices, simple enough to use. File limits are 250mb per file aren't they? I would presume the very vast majority of users don't have a lot of files over that size on their phone to backup.

A year or so ago they gave this promotion to all new users so I signed up. The service is alright. I don't use it for much, but DL speeds are solid, and the only issues are the obvious "Free account" restrictions. Which, honestly, I can't really complain about because it's free and I knew going in.
It's not a bad service. Client works fine. I've used it w/ both OSX and Windows apps. No problems.
I rarely use it, though. Ever since Google upgraded my Drive / email account to 25GB I tend to use that.
I got multiple 50GB box accounts with 1GB single file upload limit. Yeah, Box is definitely good.
Just signed up and got my 50gb. You can never have too much free storage.

I use, drop box (sorta I quit using them as much since they like to suspend my account due to traffic), copy is my personal favorite and racked up a ton of free space with invites back when they first started and drive.
Or you can say screw all services and have your own cloud with one of these, which is what I've been thinking about grabbing
