I have a problem with using HTC dev.
After pressing Fast boot and plugging it into my computer and my computer (windows 7) makes an error sound. I thought nothing of it and continued, when it came to the time when i had to get the identifier token, it didn't show.
Instead it said "Waiting for Device".
I googled it and i found a page, I uninstalled HTC sync and it still came with the same result.
Might there be something wrong with my drivers? If so how can i fix it?
Please help me , i wanna get back into rooting after leaving the iP4.
Thanks
Did you have HTC Sync enabled while you had the phone connected to your computer? If so, it should have been disabled.
Have you made sure you have the necessary drivers installed?, I had the same problem I think and this was my problem (I think), also did you restart your computer after uninstalling HTC Sync? Cause (I think ) it has to be disabled for the DEV unlock to work.
I had the exact same problem when trying to unlock the bootloader on my Rezound, I tried everything that was mentioned above and had no luck. But the second I used my friend's computer to do it all, it worked perfectly fine. I don't know why but for some reason my computer just would not recognize the device in fastboot no matter what I did. Hope this helps.
While the drive is connected, get to the devices screen.
You should see an Android section.
Right click on the device listed under Android. Click uninstall.
Unplug the device and wait for the device list to update. The Android section should disappear.
Now plug in the device again, and it should load the device driver again.
Give it a sit.shot after that.

Hi all,
I am stuck in a very weird situation for past month or so. About more than a month ago my HTC Hero stopped syncing with my Windows 7 32 bit laptop. I have tried uninstalling HTC sync, restarting, installing HTC sync again with drivers but sometimes I come across my Hero showing up as Unknown Device under Devices and Printers section while sometimes it does not detect at all. I then came across forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=647353 and found than in step IV bootloader procedure my phone detects properly in HTC Fastboot mode. I can see it appearing as My Hero under Android USB Devices in Device Manager. However, as soon as I reset my phone and restart it, it again disappears from the Device Manager. Nothing shows up.
Can somebody help troubleshoot this?

I've got exactly the same situation except i've got vista, if i use ubsdeview i can only see the usb drivers used for fastboot and no other htc/android drivers. Fastboot works, but when its on all i get is usb not recognised. I've still haven't found a solution
Hope you fare better, if you do you need to tell me what you did!
I had the same issue with the latest version of HTC sync. Downgrade it. for me 2.0.8 works great
Posted this on the general discussion section but have had no replies, hopefully someone here can help?
Hi everyone, first, this is my first post, new to the forums, at least as a registered user. I have a problem with my phone. I know most of you are wondering why I have not just read the other posts on the forums, but I have. I have attempted every solution to the problem posted previously.
Background: Phone: Samsung charge.
I was being impatient and did not want to wait for the gingerbread update form Verizon. I flashed the leaked gingerbread 2.3.4 onto my phone using odin. Everything went great. I was able to use my phone with no problems except shortened battery life, but nothing major. About a month ago the battery life was impossible to maintain and there were some software bugs, like clicks during calls, startup taking forever, around 2 minutes on average!, and random restarts that never happened before. I decided to look up some fixes and found that verizon and samsung had released GB 2.3.6 for the charge. I got excited and decided I wanted to get that, but I could not via OTA. I read some forum posts and they mentioned attempting a factory reset on the phone then trying OTA update. I went ahead with factory reset and everything went fine. My startup time is around 25 seconds now and no random clicks or gliches, but still not on 2.3.6, which was the whole point. I then decided to just flash the stock 2.3.6 rom to the phone.
Problem: When I plug my phone in to multiple computers it will charge but not connect to the computer. This means on my Mac it does not show as an external drive, which it has in the past. On my windows 7 machine it says that drivers were installed but could not be used (I can get the exact quote if needed.) I attempted to go into device manager and solve problem that way but it shows my phone as "unknown device". I have tried to enter download mode when hooked up to windows computers and no connection is found.
Possible solutions attempted and their outcomes:
1. As stated, I attempted the method shown in a thread on droid forums for installing the samsung drivers. I have attempted multiple times to install the drivers on my windows machine and the device remains "unknown".
2. I have attempted multiple cables on multiple computers, both mac and windows 7. No change.
3. I have installed adb and attempted to locate devices using adb devices command on mac. No devices found.
4. I have attempted all methods with both usb debugging checked and unchecked.
5. I have tried every possible usb port I have.
Ideas/questions I have had that I have no idea are possible or how to fix!
Would a factory reset take away the ability to connect to a computer from my phone. So, is there a piece of software in the build I have that controls the connection between the computer and the phone, an identifier of sorts, which is now missing, now that I have reset the leaked ROM.
Is there a way to flash a new ROM without connecting to a computer, via the sd card, and what is that? I have read some things in other posts but am too much of a n00b to understand most of them when using sdcards.
ANY help will be greatly appreciated. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! I have been at this for at least 6 hours, sifting through forums, searching google, attempting fixes that others have stated worked for them, only to fail every time. Thank you all.
have you try on a different pc?
maybe on your PC there is some problem with the drivers.
Moreover to connect via
adb u must enable Debug mode on your device in the application menu.
To flash kernel or other directly from your sd you can use the clockwordmode, but to install it you must before
install it and i fear you must use your cable connection

I have tried multiple PCs and a mac, even windows on bootcamp. I have installed drivers on every one, even uninstalled and reinstalled on one. One PC, my laptop was a fresh windows install (it was a linux box but I needed windows to use Odin). I was in debug mode and not in debug mode when attempting adb. Thanks for the suggestions though. As I said, I have tried numerous things and am completely stuck! so frustrating!
"I attempted to go into device manager and solve problem that way but it shows my phone as "unknown device"
Exactly there... you can try to force device to install a different driver.
Double click the unknown device then driver then update driver then find software in your computer then choose manually from a list of device drivers in your computer then show all devices you should see "android adb interface" or something related to google or android.
Try it... i hope this can help you.
Hi, I've searched around the forum, but i don't see any solutions. Am trying to run the unroot ruu, but I keep getting error code "171", telling me basically, that it can't find my phone, that it is not plugged in, i think. I really need to take it in for warranty repair, cause I am having serious issues with the proximity sensor.
Any idea guys?
Do u have the drivers installed, debug on, charge only mode enabled? It has been a while since I did the ruu, so some of those steps may be over kill

All of the above are done. i rooted fine from this computer, the message tells it's a usb connection error.

I would try downloading the drivers again. Download htc sync which will download drivers also. Then go into control panel>uninstall programs and then uninstall htc sync. Drivers will remain. Then plug phone in again and see if computer sees phone.

When I was doing this I had to install the drivers twice. When the RUU attempts to reboot into the bootloader, if you have device manager open, you can see that it drops out and no longer recognizes your phone and you'll see a device with a yellow exclamation point next to it.
So, next time you try when it reboots into the bootloader load the drivers quickly (same way you have before). If you're fast enough it'll continue the RUU process. If you're not fast enough, oh well, the RUU should just work when you try it again.
ok, so when i rooted, i couldn't get the root to run on my desktop (almost bricked it I thought) cause it kept saying "too many devices" and it would get stuck. then got this crazy idea to do it from my laptop and voila! it worked flawlessly first time. Then when I started having issues with the proximity sensor and going back for warranty I had to unroot, right?
Only this time, no matter what I could not get the ruu to run on my laptop. So again, this crazy idea says go to the desktop and voila! it worked! I think that is too friggin " weird!
So I am good now, thanks!
I had a problem with running the RUU to unroot the other day, and the thing that fixed it was turning off my antivirus software for some reason..
The driver install fails on the HTC MTP driver install...I cannot get by this. I am running Windows 7 64 bit...anyone else having this issue?
OMG I fought with that for HOURS. I never did get them to work. I installed htc sync, htc sync manager, and I installed the all in one kit drivers.. Nothing. Windows 7 64 bit too.
I assume you are trying to unlock the bootloader and root?
Do both things manually using fast boot commands and recovery.
Tl;dr you can root without MTP drivers

exactly like me, I have been fighting with this for two days now. Reinstalling htc sync, htc sync manager, cleaning out existing drivers reinstalling again. Removing everything that could be associated with htc at all, reinstalling android sdk etc etc.
Nothing makes my phone recogniced by ´adb devices´not even htc sync software recognice it.
Every time I plug it in, the device is recogniced and installed and it says under Portable Devices in the device manager ´HTC One X+´
Do you get the Choose type of connection screen on your phone when connecting it? Because I dont, is just says connected in debug mode, even if debug development tools is turned of and debug of. But it still doesnt show up in adb.

No, not on this phone.. I think it has to do with the MTP crap. You can read an informative post by Lloir in the dev section to find out more.

hmm.
went back to the store and made them try connecting the phone to one of their laptops, if course everything worked perfectly there
So now im back trying to figure out what to do. Going to find the post you mention and see if I get any hints there.
Did you notice my post above where you I claimed you can root and unlock without the drivers?
What do you need to do that you need them?
Hi,
I am reading this, it is exactly what I recognize with my new One X+ too.
BUT I am not wanting to root or something. I'd like the Navigon software to recognize my device and download the maps like it did on my Desire HD.
Any more hints to how I can get this running ?
regards,
Ruud
Hi,
I keep failing to root my HTC One V. At first I used that Kingo ROOT thingy, which doesnt work at all. Then I decided to do it the old way. However, first of all, the bootloader unlocking program itself wont install. It says AdpWinApi.dll is missing, even after installing Android SDK. Next thing, when I get into my phone's bootloader, my windows 10 pc says that the usb is broken or something similair to that, while when connecting when the phone is turned on, it does show the phone and I can access all its files. Ive isntalled multiple usb drivers, and HTC Sync (which I closed afterwards, so thats not the issue) and yet, it doesnt recognize the phone when in boot mode. Help, please!
fyi the bootloader is still locked.
Kind regards,
me.
