Hi guys
I have problem with my g tablet screen, 80% of time when screen goes off (regardless is it timeout of screen or by shot press on power button) it won't came back untill I restart device.
For example I am listening radio and screen timeout takes place, I am still getting sound but no meter what - screen is not coming back unless I press and hold power button and device restarts. I am running calkulin 1.1 rom.
Anyone......?
Known issue with most ROMs. Search for SOD.

I, too, would've said that this was a SOD problem, but, then you said this:

What happens if you play music using the standard Android music app and the screen times out while playing? Can you switch the screen on?
Suggestions:
On the current ROM, try a different kernel.
On the current ROM, if you install Jack Palevich's Android Terminal Emulator, you can "Take Wakelock" and then minimize the app to keep the tablet from going into suspend. Or, install one of the many apps from market designed to do the same thing.
On the custom GB ROMs, you can wake the device up by pressing the volume rocker after you enable Settings > VEGAn-TAB/CyanogenMod settings > Input > Volume rocker wake. Install a GB ROM.
Thanks. I read it somewhere that could be hardware issue and I unrooted device so I could maybe contact Viewsonic if 6 months is not too late. I will root it again and try this tonight.
I got permission denied for terminal emulator "Take Wakelock", tried with su not working either
I am running Calkulin 1.1 and not having BG options for sound
Most of other ROM's I tried for this dumb device are not working for me

That's a very odd error. Uninstall, then reinstall the terminal emulator app and update to the latest version of the Superuser app.
It might be simpler to just install one of the wake lock holding apps from market, though.

Done a search and can't find a solution...
With the 'easy to press' buttons on the HD2 the phone screen keeps powering on in my pocket (I use phone lock to stop auto dialling).
This is draining the battery...
Any way to stop this happening? Say, have just the power button only turn on the screen, after a long press for example???

Try settings / system / keylock settings. There are options to set the buttons as non responsive except for the power button.

I have this same issue and I've got a stock 3.14 tmobile rom but when I go to settings / system /, there is no options for keylock settings. is that on a custom rom?
+1 for this
From new my phone used to have the option of locking all buttons except the power key ... until I did my first hard reset, then it vanished! I would have thought the settings app would have been in the ROM, so restored after the hard reset, but obviously not.
Anyone have a cab for it or care to extract it from their HD2?
<quote>Try settings / system / keylock settings. There are options to set the buttons as non responsive except for the power button.</quote>
Nope, no such option on my HD2...
Seems we need 'keylock.exe'
Anyone got it and know if it will work in an HD2?
Ok, at least I know I'm not unique now...
i've installed Hd2ProximityScreenOff-0.2.cab which I guess turns the screen back off quickly if an "in-pocket" button press brings the screen to life. (can't confirm what happens in my pocket, but seems to do the trick in my hand)
but I'd really like to know if someone knows how to get to this keylock setting

ahh crap, noob mistake. sorry.
any chance you can dig up where "settings / system / keylock settings" points?
maybe it points to something already in the stock rom?

i can install the stock rom update right from tmo, and install cabs and crap, but not yet ready to make the leap to customer roms (or android for that matter)
try pocketshield software. it has feature that turns your screen immediately off if its in pocket etc with proximity sensor, also its great and cool.
I've only just started using the phone. Have some Qs.
1. Other than the aural indication for an incoming email/text message, is it also possible to have the screen light up?
2. What is the best way to:
a. Wake the phone - use of the Power button or Home button?
b. Return to home screen w/out use of the Home button.
3. Is it normal for a full charge from 2-5% to take anywhere between 3-3.5 hrs?
4. Is NoLED the more popular free notifications app, or is there anything better available from the market.
5. Do you guys advise on selecting System power saving? What is the optimum selection for the Touch key light duration?
Any other battery-saving tips would be appreciated.
6. Lastly, are all of you currently running 4.0.3?
Thanks
1) You can use No LED, or Siyah/BLN. Up to you. Either way there's a cost so far as battery drain is concerned if you use either of these.
2) Makes no difference. Use whatever button you like. I'm not aware of any other way to return to your home screen. That's why there's a home button (logical, no ?).
3) Yes.
4) No LED seems to be the most popular notification app that mimics BLN. Why not search Google Play & see if there are others ? (I'd be surprised if there isn't).
5) No idea. There are no shortcuts to saving battery/getting the most out of every charge. It takes research, reading & learning. There is no "Do such & such & get such and such battery life". Every phone is setup & used differently, it's a case of experimenting & finding out what works for you. There is a wealth of info on this stuff on here, you just have to search for it (Use Google with XDA appended to your search terms rather than XDA search), read, learn & try stuff out.
6) No. I'm running CM9. But please don't turn this thread into a 'recommend me a rom' thread. Mods will close it post haste if you do. Try a bunch of roms/kernels out until you find a combo that works well for you. This is very simple if you use CWM to backup/flash/restore (takes all of a few minutes to backup your current setup, flash a rom & then restore it if you find you don't like a rom/kernel).
Edit - You haven't read the Stickies, have you ? I highly recommend you do. There is an treasure trove of information in those threads.
1. Other than the aural indication for an incoming email/text message, is it also possible to have the screen light up?
A) u can search play store r google for the same
2. What is the best way to:
a. Wake the phone - use of the Power button or Home button?
A) both way its ok r even the vol keys
b. Return to home screen w/out use of the Home button.
A) simply scroll back to home screen
3. Is it normal for a full charge from 2-5% to take anywhere between 3-3.5 hrs?
A) yes its quite normal
4. Is NoLED the more popular free notifications app, or is there anything better available from the market.
A) u can try NSTools app from play stores
5. Do you guys advise on selecting System power saving? What is the optimum selection for the Touch key light duration?
Any other battery-saving tips would be appreciated.
A) touch key light duration of 1.5 secs is good and also disable all auto sync ,wifi and data when not in use, brightness to Auto etc will help saving battery
6. Lastly, are all of you currently running 4.0.3?
A) no i am running 4.0.4

Here are some answers:
1. Yes, there are different methods of visually showing an incoming sms or email. Some message/email apps support some kind of "light", or just flash a custom kernel with Back Light Notifcation (BLN), such as SiyahKernel. Has to be enabled and configured with ExTweaks app.
2.a. Wake up from screensaver/screen off by pushing the Home button.
2.b. Return to home screen by pushing the Home button or the Home "link" on the left at the bottom if you are in the apps menu.
3. Yes. Charging will be faster if the phone is turned off, but it will still take about 3-3,5 hours for fully charging.
4. Notification app ... as I am using the stock message and email apps, no suggestion from me.
5. Have a look here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16973603. Very good battery saving tips. And I am not using custom power saving.
6. No, not all. Have a look at my kernel/ROM tests => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26775950, and make up your own mind. I am very satisfied with my current ICS ROM XWLPD and won't go back to GB. BTW, with some custom ROMs, you can install Android 4.0.4 on the SGS2, but I haven't checked this, as I prefer stock/Sammy ROMs.
@MistahBungle, Sun90, It_ler, thanks for getting back, & for the links!
I am running stock everything and do not plan on rooting/installing a custom ROM. That said, is it still possible to get the latest 4.0.4 update?
Is Kies the way to go, to get an update?
The only reason I ask about the Home button is that with continuous use over time, it just might not be as effective.
Each time there is new email/text message, I was wondering if there was a way for the screen to light up, indicating the type of message (email/text message); not the NoLED icons.
No, it's not possible to get a '4.0.4 update' with a stock rom. There might be an app that lights up the whole screen (why you'd want to do that I have absolutely no idea) rather than an 'icon' on the screen like No LED. As suggested, search Google Play yourself & see if such a thing exists.
I have searched everywhere for a solution to this problem and trust me, the search button has never had this many presses before
I have a HTC HD2 and 'almost' everything works, but there are a few issues I have.
I'm not a noob in ANY sense and I always try and find a solution to my problems before posting about them, that is IF I can't solve the problems myself
First off, this is my current setup for the HD2:
HD2: International 512mb HTC HD2
Radio: 2.15.50.14
HSPL2.08
MAGLDR V1.13
Recovery: MAGLDR CWM Recovery v3.0.2.4
Current ROM: NexusHD2 JellyBean CM10.1.3 V2.7 by Tytung
Previous ROM: PACman HD2 v1.2a by Xylograph
Kernel: tytung_jellybean_r2
Ok, the problems. What are they?
First off, the phone will NEVER, and I really mean NEVER, enter Deep Sleep. Deep Sleep is always amongst the unused CPU states. I have tried everything to get it to go to Deep Sleep to no avail. I tried another ROM to see if the ROM/kernel was at fault, but it isn't. They all have that problem. There are no apps that are causing wake-locks and even using an app that forces Deep Sleep will not work. The lowest the CPU will go is 96Mhz and never below it. I have the Max CPU speed set to 1190Mhz and the lowest set at 96Mhz. I also can never confirm a time when Deep Sleep did work, because it never did
Second problem, the physical buttons on the device act very erratically. I don't have the well-known power button issue, but I have something similar. The power button doesn't work on a long-press. If you long-press the power button it should give you the power menu, right? In my case, that never happens. What will happen is the display will turn off, as if I simply pressed and released it, like when you lock the phone. No matter how long you hold it in, the power menu will never appear.
Other buttons also act odd. The volume down button does work, but it also triggers the multitasking window to appear, every time I press it. This behaviour is not restricted to being in Android. Scrolling in CWM with the volume rocker, because that is the only way you can navigate this version of CWM, also does this. The log window will disappear and re-appear constantly, but sometimes it doesn't do this. This problem is only with the volume down button. The volume up button works just like it should. Other buttons do give problems, but they are not ever-persistent like the ones I mentioned above. The others just have constantly changing behaviour. They will perform different tasks at random when pressed, like open the dialer, or go home, or open the multitasking window as well, or even go back sometimes.
Now, I don't know what happened to Tytung on XDA, nor do I want to find out because it isn't important to me, but I'm not trying to advertise his work. I'm just trying every ROM I can find.
The phone does have water damage, but that was many years ago. No repairs were done to it, but it still works just like it should. The only problems are the ones I mentioned above. I do think that the water damage did do something to the buttons of the phone, but is it even possible that Deep Sleep can be affected by this? Isn't Deep Sleep something that is software-based?
I really would like to know what the is going on here
Any help would be greatly appreciated
I hope I provided enough information about this problem

I have a similar set up with the opposite problem: won't come out of deep sleep! Hate to hijack your topic but if anyone knows what could be causing this...?
I notice that the double click of the power button still opens the camera in nougat and now there doesn't seem to be a way to switch it off. I've accidentally triggered this twice, hit home to close camera, then pressed the power button to switch off. Soon after on both occasions the phone has partially rebooted in my pocket, sticking on the Wiley fox boot logo.
Anybody else confirm this behaviour? Not something you do everyday I guess......
Hi Ratbags, I tried it for you... I never noticed that tapping the power button twice starts the camera, but indeed it does; however my phone didn't reboot (so it also didn't get stuck).
Hallo ratbags, i can confirm this behaviour in my Swift 2 Plus with Nougat Android. Noticed that randoms reboots some while ago and with your hint about power double click i am able to reproduce it.
To switch it off
Go to parameters
Use the search option and search gestures
Click on Gestures and then you'll find the option you are looking for

Thanks for that. I believe Wiley fox are bringing out an update to fix this issue. Strange you can only get to that setting by searching or is it hidden away somewhere deep in a settings submenu?

I didn't find it anywhere else so I think it's hidden
There's others hidden menu (and some are not even working at all - like battery percentage). I think that it's the trace of some modifications of parameters that weren't done correctly, or those parameters were disabled because the option didn't work well.
With latest update Build no. TOS118C the Gestures are available in Options Menu. The "not quite random reboot" seems to befixed too. Tested it several times and got no reboot since 3 hours.
Was just scanning the forum for any reports of random reboots as I've also been having reboots and it hanging on the white WileyFox logo screen.
Have noticed it more since the more recent official updates and have even gone so far as a full factory reset, however, I've had the issue reoccur several times since then (reset done earlier in week) so will be interesting to see if disabling that camera gesture will help
Beyond that I'm thinking possibly a corrupt or "worn" SD Card as I have a MicroSD card, used to extend the internal storage, that I think I used for a year or so in my previously Swift so possibly suffering some mild wear....
My wife recently upgraded to the new HD 10 after her HDX 8.9 began refusing to wake when the cover was opened or when you press the power button. I thought that it may have been due to a recent OTA update as there are a number of people complaining of similar issues with the new HD 8 (including myself). I was able to root, unlock the BL, and flash a new ROM onto the Apollo unit (thanks to all of the info here), but I am still having issues with it refusing to wake up.
A few minutes after the screen has timed out, you will have to hold the power button to force a reboot in order to get the screen to come back on. I have attached a portion of my log after I turned on Airplane Mode to cut down on some of the chatter. Thoughts??

Didn't look at log. Which ROM is currently on the device? I assume no Xposed Framework or battery saving apps.
AospExtended with Magisk and no Xposed or other battery apps.
Also, just to be clear, these problems were present on the stock fw and still exist after flashing ROM

Curious - if you boot into TWRP and leave the device untouched the screen should timeout after 60 sec or whatever value is indicated under settings. This is not a true 'sleep' mode but does quite most idle activity. Do you experience a 'wake' freeze under those conditions? How about Android "safe mode"?
My guess is the behavior will NOT occur under TWRP; will under Safe Mode. Let's see if that plays out.
Note: to boot into "safe mode" long press the power button while AEX is unlocked then long press the "power off"; you'll be prompted from there.
Your assumption is correct. It does NOT occur under TWRP, but DOES under Safe Mode.
