I think I accidentally disabled network data when looking at network toggles the other night at home, on wifi. I just had received my phone, and didn't know what the toggle did (no labels). After all of that, I installed Launcher Pro, the least buggy , and now I have no 4g. I can't find the original widget that "disabled" my network data and can't figure out how to reset.
The steps I've taken:
> Confirmed i can call out
> confirmed internet connection down
> Reset APN to default settings on APN menu, shows at&t
> confirmed packet data checkbox is selected.
I show Network bars, but no 4g or 3g emblem. What is my next step to fix this and reconnect to data?
worse case, just use oden and flash back to stock......that should fix the issue. or try and add the APN manually.

I should clarify that I'm completely stock right now, no root or anything. I'm giving myself a little time to acclimate to Android before I go that route despite my newbie developer urges.

That's the old style APN that will only get you HSPA. No LTE with this APN.
My about phone status shows:
Network: AT&T
Signal Strength: -18 dMb
Mobile network type: Unknown
Mobile Network state: disconnected
I swear it has to be something I did with that toggle. How can I get this reset?
can an admin move this to general where it would get more exposure. I guess it's actually more Android OS related than phone specific and not enough people in this subforum to get an answer. I'd like my phone operable again
Verified APN for AT&T shows up. Got WIFI access and redownloaded the toggle from Go Launcher. Verified APN toggle highlighted. Still only show cell connection bars, with no 4g or 3g emblem or internet access on the mobile network. I haven't even tweaked the phone that much!
Never mind. AT&T said the data plan failed to setup, so I guess it wasn't my fault after all.

I got that too, it was APN related in my case..
Even though I had a 3G or H icon, for some reason I didn't have internet.. Just changed some APN settings (deleted the old, added some new) and everything was fine again.
I don't think this post belongs here in android development though
what all did you change in the apn settings?
and sorry about that, if a mod could move this thread it would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Damn noobs. Quit opening threads
First, if you want help, good to let us know what builds etc. you are using and where you are. I'm not sure, but epc.tmobile.com may not be right in non-US locations.
I occasionally get this error, but not continuously. Is your data turned on in settings? You might also use the hidden settings menu *#*#4636#*#* to verify the data is on. You see an H/3G/E symbol on your notification bar?
i dont get it, the fancy 4636 menu doenst help me. i can access market and browser, but the menu says i have no connection at all.

I was having a similar problem. Lost data connection for no reason (not for a little while, but for an hour), so I did this: Rebooted using the "recovery" option, went into WM and checked if data was running there and it was. Went back to Android and viola! Data connection was back.
Hope it works for you

ok so apn settings are default, but the apn is selected to the on. the kernel is 2.6.32.15, what kinda gets me is that it is on the tmobile network, it shows my signal strength, and that the mobile network type is edge, service state in service, mobile network state is conected
ok just a quick question...is the time set right in your setting...i had the same issue and believe it or not if the time is off the market, browser or anything data will not work...learned from past experiences.....

but still same problem, it shows e in the tip of my icons for edge but no access to market or browser still
I unlocked and rooted my Atrix I changed the apn to t mobile I get the E but the atrix still trys to access At&T on the browser and market what am I missing???
Mine did this same thing with my carrier in Japan, I could call and text and I would get H+ icon but no data. I sent mine back for a replacement.
Did you activate the phone on AT&T before unlocking and changing SIM?
I am facing the similar problem too. I use Atrix with Simple Mobile number. Mine catches E but doesn't load anything. Always ended up showing connection error. Is it a hardware problem?
Sounds like apn settings are incorrect.

I don't know what your apn settings should be, just sounds like that is the source of your problem.
Edit...look at some of these:

that post is where I got the setting to try to change to when it had a problem. later I found out that it's the same setting as the default though the username and password is unknown since it's a star.
I have CM 7 on my Aria. Recently I tried an app from market that claimed to prolong battery life (stupid, i know!). Within few hours I realized that it drained my battery even faster, so I uninstalled it. Ever since, I am unable to use network data (wifi works fine). I did check under "Wireless and networks" and network data is enabled.
I'd appreciate any help.

Sometimes just rebooting helps. I would disable wi-fi and enable network data from settings. Then reboot and see if it helps.
I think you must define anew Access point manually under wireless/mobile networks/Access point name, first of all you must refer to your network provider to give you the configurations.

Tried rebooting.. That doesn't help.
I think the problem is access point settings. Can someone on AT&T be kind enough to give me the settings. Here is what I need:
Setting > Wireless and networks > Mobile networks> Access point names> ATT:
Name:
APN:
Proxy:
Port:
Username:
Password:
Server:
MMS proxy:
MMS port:
MMC:
MNC:
Authentication type:
APN type:
APN protocol:
Never mind, I googled it and that did the trick. Just in case anyone else is looking for same, here is what worked for me:
Name: AT&T
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: leave blank
Port: leave blank
Username:[email protected]
Password:CINGULAR1

MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: 80
MCC:310
MNC:410
APN Type: leave blank
APN protocol: IPv4
I think the setting is good. I just reinstalled Google Voice from the Market. Everything works.
I'm using ATT prepaid now. I just flashed CM7.
I used the following setting on the stock rom, it worked great!
Name: AT&T
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
Username:[email protected]
Password:CINGULAR1
Server: leave blank
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32
mms protocol: wap 2.0
MMS Port: 80
MCC:310
MNC:410
APN Type: leave blank
Most of time, I use google voice to txt. I have no problem using internet explorer on the phone to surf with the above setting on CM7, but I couldn't send out txt thru google voice.
I double checked the apn setting, everything was same as I put it on stock rom, besides "authentication type" and "APN protocol". I don't know what value should I set.
Name - anything
apn - wap.cingular
proxy - wireless.cingular.com
port - 80
username - blank
password - blank
server - blank
mmsc - http://mmsc.cinuglar.com
mms proxy - wireless.cingular.com
mms port - 80
mcc - 310
mnc - 410
auth type - blank
apn type - intern+mms+supl
This is what I use and I have good speeds and no internet problems. With google voice and text if I only have a bar or if im on edge it wont go through alot of times and ill just wait till i have a lil better service. I dont know if this due to service or the settings but I have experienced similar issues but only in low data settings.
Hope this helps

Here is an interesting development... I flashed CyanogenMod 10 on my Sony Xperia arc S phone and the ROM downloaded some settings by itself. There are 3 APNs that comes with this ROM.
1. ATT
2. ATT LTE
3. StraightTalk ATT
StraightTalk was picked by default. I was about to delete them all and enter the settings from here but then I received a text message from a friend... Lo and behold, it was a MMS message with a pic attached and already downloaded. I saw that my WiFi was on, so I turned off the WiFi and asked my friend to send me more pics... They all arrived including a video snippet.... Then I sent one, a larger pic, and he received it. All amazed I fired up the CM10's browser and went to www.testmy.net Did a smarttest and my download was 3.4 Mbps and upload was 577 Kbps... In Phoenix, AZ...

That's the settings I use for straight talk, works great. I get 4g just about everywhere here in pa. Mms works great too. I've had straight talk for a year and a half on at&t. Can't complain. If you use alot of cell data they will throttle you slow, but I'm usually close to wifi. I've heard 2GB then they slow you down.

I'm getting 1.3Mbps down and 657 Kbps up. Pretty happy with it.
To the last poster, I thought Straight Talk didn't offer LTE coverage?! If it did, it'd be an even more amazing deal than I had thought it was!
My data works fine. Got like 6mbps this morn but my MMS wont send for ****. Using an Xperia Ion
Pantech Pocket ATT - Straight Talk MMS Settings
The Pantech Pocket needs to have the Straight Talk APN data loaded to TWO locations.
Both Phone APN and Wap APN need to be setup with the Straight Talk APN settings.
Straight Talk makes it sound like you only need to enter the information in one location.
You need to enter the information in Phone APN and Wap APN, if you want MMS to work!
APN name: Straight Talk
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: Straight Talk value
Port: 80
MMSC: Straight Talk value
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33
MMS Port: 80
My Pantech Pocket is running flawlessly on Straight Talk now. MMS is 100% functional. The pictures are getting through. I'm getting 5Mbps download speed and 1Mbps upload speed.
My Pantech burst uses only one apn. On gingerbread and ice cream sandwich. I don't run proxy but the rest of the settings I put in and works good. Seems faster tried it. 40kbps proxy vs 4000kbps no proxy. Not sure why. Any ideas?

HOLY SH!T!!!
I just put in the settings Bushmaster78FS posted and I am now on TRUE 4G with ST. 6Mbps!!! ITS FASTER THAN MY WORKS WIFI BY 3X!!!
AMAZING!!! THANKS BUSHMASTER!
Nice
Thanks for the settings you posted Bushmaster.
The settings provided are the first ones I have used and successfully got both data and mms working with only one APN.
Using Samsung Galaxy S III.
1. My phone is unocked and compatible on both AT&T networks and T-Mobile right now i am using an blue AT&T sim and i am thinking to make the move to T-Mobile network. Do you think i can use the same AT&T compatible sim and just change the APN setting to T-Mobile and have it work on the T-Mobile network or so i have to buy a sim?
2. I heard that you can get a free sim by buying a free phone and just using it on your phone but other people say that those sims are lock to those phones. Which is true?
3. I see that Straight talk sells cheap GSM phones and my GF has her phone on T-Mobile so can i buy one of the ST phones and swap it to use on T-Mobile or are the locked and can they be unlocked?
I just switched from the default straight talk apn to the ones bushmaster posted. I went from 1 mbps to 4.8 on a Nexus 4.

APN set, no data.
Hey gang, I've looked far-and-wide and haven't been able to locate a solution so, I throw myself on y'all's mercy and ask if anyone has a clue why I can't receive wireless data on my SGT AT&T GT-P1000.
I received my AT&T Straight Talk SIM the other day and porting the phone over was no issue. However, when I set up the APN I did not immediately reboot the phone due to some confusion about when the service actually transferred. Could this have affected my registration on the ST wireless network?
I've entered the APN settings precisely but, alas, still cannot connect to the wireless data. I really want to move over to ST, not only will it save me $30 a month whilst adding an "unlimited" data plan but, best of all, I'll get to tell AT&T to go pound sand.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
did you add in the " http://"?
Does anybody now any way to unthrotte. Since we all now that ST throttle after 5gb. I called to ST customers service, they told me that unlimited data is only for navigation.
