[Q] WiFi WEP Limited Conectivity - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I'm issuing some problems connecting a universal repeater with my X10. As I said, I have a universal repeater (TP-LINK W500G) repeating my main wireless connection at home. This connection works on every device I have at home, as 2 laptops, ipod touch, but on my android phones, it says Limited Conectivity or even dont connect (on a Samsung Galaxy Gio).
If I activate the DHCP on the repeater, would it work, or is it a Android problem?
Best Regards

[Q] Tethering - what exactly is it?

Sorry for this basic question but I plan to move from windows mobile iPAQ to Archos 101.
I have a very simple phone Nokia 3120 classic which has bluetooth and 3G. When I needed to browse I just connected my iPAQ to phone via bluetooth, dialled something like *xyz*# and that was it, I was on line.
Is this tethering discussed here similar? What is the difference and why is it so complicated taht so many phones fail to tether?
Thanks for your answers.
The process of sharing the internet from your phone to another device like what you are doing is known as tethering. In your case you're making your phone appear as a dial up modem.
In Archos' case, you have some options. I don't know, but I don't believe you can tether an archos to your phone like that. I could be wrong.
As for why some phones fail to tether, it could be a couple of reasons. The most common one is that the phone is putting out an Ad-Hoc wifi signal. All android devices cannot pick up Ad-Hoc (peer2peer) signals, only Infrastructure (Access Points, Routers). There is another option for Bluetooth tethering, which I've gotten to work off my Motorola Droid, but other phones have some issues. I believe its a matter of what bluetooth capabilities the phone has (bluetooth specs similar to things like wireless audio transmitting).
I hope I cleared somethings up
Yes, your old method was basically using the phone like a modem. The tethering mentioned for android, is sharing of the internet connection the phone has.
Smartphones (and many feature phones) have an always on internet connection. It is like a broadband connection, always on and connected. Tethering basically turns your phone into a router, sharing the same connection to the internet with other devices.
The differences in WiFi and bluetooth capabilities is a concern for tethering between devices, so some people have trouble getting it to work.

Alternate to adhoc networks(Connectify)

As I observed android cannot detect adhoc networks,
I found this software Connectify as an alternative to it.
S thought of sharing with you all.
http://connectify.me/
It has has the feature of wifi hotspot that can be enabled on any pc or laptop having wifi and win 7 OS.
Wifi connection from this software is detectable by android devices and we can connect as any other normal wifi connection.
worth try..
Its been out for at least 1 year now. It works well for people who don't have wifi routers (like me) and I've been using for 6 months now for both my laptop and the O1 without problems.

Connectify WPA2 not working

Hey guys
Im having trouble with connectify and connecting my galaxy SII
When I set up my WPA2 connection and connect to it my phone connects to it but there is no internet connection. Sometimes there is like 5 sec of connection then it goes away. My firewall and anti-virus are disabled.
My iPad and other phones also cant connect.

Hope to understand you correctly.
You have got issues to connect your phone (SGS2), your iPad and other phones to your WLAN (wifi access point, router or what ever)?
Then it seems to be a problem in the configuration of your access point, and not an issue of your SGS2.
Maybe you have enabled MAC address filtering or static IP addresses?!

[Q] phone not connecting to laptops hotspot

hi fellows
i just installed a 4g device in my laptop for internet access. It working fine. Next i made the laptop a hotspot via adhoc connection and after that though internet is fine but i am unable to connect my samsung sii via wifi with it. Even though a friends iphone connected to my lappys hotspot but my phone doesn't and neither does it show that a hotspot/ wifi connections exists.
help
Ad Hoc was designed only for local connections, not Internet.
Use Connectify to make hotspot.

You need to setup a virtual router or if your laptop has a router you can share net via that, originally custom roms does not support ad hoc, but certain roms are modified to enable it.
Using GT - I9100
I thank those who give helpful comments
I expect the same from others.
Router has wlan infrastructure mode, not adhoc. It doesn't matter if the ROM supports it or not.

WiFi or Bluetooth hotspot?

I have an un rooted n9 (wifi only), and im trying to bridge an authenticated wifi network to a hotspot using my phone and tab. Seems the n9 doesnt support wifi hotspot, or sharing its own data connection - did i miss anything?

I used phone Hotspot to set mine up in Best Buy parking lot. Not sure what you are trying to do.
Im trying to connect one device to the other (works bluetooth phone -> tab) and then connect a 3rd device to the wifi hotspot on the 2nd. I can do this with 2 phones, but need the nexus 9 to share its internet connection for this to work.
if I understand, you are attempting to daisy chain devices, won't happen unless your tablet and phone has 2 WiFi radios, haven't heard of any standard non specialty devices like that. you can either be host, or receiver, not both. you can only try to use phone to Bluetooth tether, and maybe chain them like that somehow. I haven't tried it myself.
you can see if your device will recognize a WiFi USB attached to a host cable.. just an idea..

I would create a wireless hotspot with my Nexus 9 but it looks all the tethering options are missing. Maybe because it lacks the LTE modem. This is quite stupid: I can get the connection from a bluetooth/usb connection.
Is anyone having issues getting the Bluetooth connection to hold? I can pair the devices but they disconnect as soon as they connect. I've tried clearing the Bluetooth sharing on both my phone and the nexus 9 but still nothing. :S
N9 running lollipopalooza and lg g2 on aicp lollipop.
