Well will be phone less a while. Dropped the phone today, a little over 3 feet. Landed face down and now looks like I hit it with a sledge hammer. So now I get to start saving to get it replaced under warranty. Ugh. Can't wait, the roms just starting coming out. Lol

With a phone this big is just a question of when you are going to drop it.
I have Best Buy's protection. It will cover shattered screens and the repair cost is always zero. (No deductible) I wouldn't get a phone like this without insurance.
Yea; I heard ATTs insurance deductible is $200. Thats rough..
here are some action shots. have half the cash for the deductible. woohoo!
Sad.... It must have fell just at the right angle.

So much for Gorilla Glass? I'm starting to rethink my "forget insurance, I'll never see it" policy.
What about SquareTrade? That's who I have used in the past and who I plan to go with for my Note. Basically the same coverage as Best Buy but you pay one price and no monthly fees. I believe they have a $50 deductible per claim but as far as I know, so does Best Buy. I could be wrong on this. Plus, isn't Best Buy's plan $15 per month? ($15 x 24 months = $360)
i think i may go get best buys insurance tomorrrow.. i'm pretty sure its 9.99 a month, but I will double check. was looking at ATT insurance and its ... not as good. Ive never had insurance before but with this phone.... man.. I think i'll need it. I already dropped it once.
I am checking out ensquared. Seems cheap and good coverage. Anyone have experience with them?

BB insurance is $15 for the iphone. Its $9.99/month (or $170 for one time up front payment) for the Note and other smartphones. It is $0 deductible for both. Its true BB protection doesn't cover loss or theft. But phones are dropped a lot more than they are stolen.
Squaretrade (IMHO) is the next best deal if you dont buy your phone from BB.

Except you're forgetting to factor in probability. If it were truly a good deal for you, BB and att wouldn't offer it. I'm comfortable with my phone in a case and sp (for the first time but it is a big ass screen) , and I always have it on person. Loss/theft hasn't happened to me... well I've never lost a phone, and the one I dropped in a toilet... fixed well enough, and the one in puddle... was due an upgrade. Long story short, everything I would've paid towards insurance in the 10 yrs I've had smartphones would have bought me more than enough off-contract phones.

That's good to know about BB's deductible being zero. That does help. What sold me on SquareTrade is that you pay right around $90 one time. You just need to wait until they have a 30% off deal (which is really often) otherwise it cost $125.

To be honest I have never checked. My last device had a really easy process for returning to stock and unrooting but of course if the device is dead then it does not matter how easy that process is. I would think that rooting a device will void any warranty if a person is caught.

I just found this thread on another forum that compares Ensquared with SquareTrade. I will be checking out Ensquared now.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...aretrade-cell-phone-insurance.html#post942795
Interesting relevant comment I found on that for squartrade vs ensquared:
Ensquared only covers accidental physical damage and lost/stolen...they don't fix technical things with the devices or cover that. Bricking your phone would be considered misuse as far as Ensquared goes. With Squaretrade there is a chance they would cover it as long as they can't tell that you were trying to root the phone which caused it to brick. Since they cover malfunctions there is a chance they will cover it. I don't know if there is a way to tell that you were screwing with it or not.

With an iPhone it's easy as pie. I can't imagine it's very hard with our phones.
Yeah, I've done similar on iPhone an DSLites... they're all easy and generally pretty cheap to replace.
I always just bought off of ebay and did the work myself.
Just find a youtube video and take your time. Its easy.
Here's the video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sV2PMwn1hns
Also, considering you can buy off ebay without a contract in fully working condition for about $150 or so... I don't know if its a good deal to buy a phone for $50 then spend $100 on replacement parts.
Seems like he needs to drop the price to $20 to be worth it.
So i went into BB the other day to check out if they had any cases for my Note. And of course i was talking to the guy and he asked where i got it. I said AT&T being it was $100 cheaper being i bought it at full retail price.
He says you should have gotten it from here, you should return it and re-buy from us. He says they work on non-commish & is just looking out for me? Hahah i chucked at first. So i BS with him and he tells me about this $9.99 accidental insurance plan that they replace the phone even if you took it home and smashed it with a hammer and brought it back in a dust pan. But you have to buy the phone from them. It also can be canceled at any time there is no contract on this like a warranty on a car. Interesting.
So if you figure like me i prefer my phone naked but need a case for accidental drops. You go and spend $40 on a case or even $80 being you will prob buy two maybe even 3. I am super anal with my electronics, but need protection when i go out. Like out drinking with the buds and i "accidentally" fumble the phone on the concrete. So that is either 4 months of worry free coverage or 8 months coverage. Seems to good to be true.
Anyone know anything about this? Or have it?
This may not sound super good for people who bought it at $300 but those of use who bought it for $650 it sounds much better. Ive already seen quite a few cracked screen threads on here.
He wasn't lying he doesnt get paid on commission. But as far as the protection plan its not a bad deal, considering that's there no deductible and you can service it as many times as you want. The only knock in my opinion it doesn't cover lost or stolen.

Yup, thats another thing. There is no deductible which is awesome. I think at&t has a $200 dollar one or something crazy like that. Hell, my Note already slide behind my bed. It is cheaper but if you lose your phone kiss it goodbye... it doesn't cover lost/stolen and honestly. .. They claim as long as your phone has a front facing camera, once reported stolen it snaps a pic of the person who has it in possession. I have it on my SII but haven't lost it (knock on wood).

Exactly. I bought two Galaxy Notes from ATT for retail a few days ago. My GF would rather wait until her upgrade in May and save the $300 so i am gonna return hers to ATT. But i am deff gonna get hers from BB mobile come May with that protection plan.
Like i said i am super anal with my devices so i am not worry about scratching it, more worried about that oh **** moment. I tend to leave my phone on my lap when i drive and forget its there when i get out lol . Id rather take the $40 i would spend on cases and throw that towards the protection for $9.99 a month. Just for piece of mind.
I'm sure i could cut out some dumb stuff to makeup for that $10 bucks a month lol.

I did this plus the $36 on buyback (only at that price when you buy warranty at time of phone purchase so they say). The piece of mind is the best thing about it plus the buy back gives me atleast the commitment price in 18 months that's pretty nice!

The BB no deductible is cool, but I like the accidental with lost/stolen add-on of AT&T for the same price. Granted that $200 Deductible hurts but I have had more phones lost/stolen than totally destroyed and the Note would be really attractive to thieves.

Got mine from Best Buy yesterday, and I think it's just hardwired into me to decline any sort of extended warranty, and the sales guy wasn't pushy at all so the conversation lasted about 5 seconds. I've never had a phone broken/lost, etc (knock on wood!) but I can see the benefit as long as they are true to their policy. Just can't justify adding $10 a month for it.
Though it's nice to see I have 30 days to change my mind.
my brother also purchased the streak from bb for 99 and paid the one time fee for their coverage and used it for 6 months. He ended up getting the iphone 4 for free and they refunded his full warranty payment minus the 6 months that he used so he ended up making money back from his warranty and got the iphone 4 which was 200 at the time for the price he paid for the streak.
I had their insurance when I purchased my atrix...screen broke 2 months later and it took a month and a half to get a new phone...service was terrible I had no phone for a month and a half.I don't recommend it but its your choice.

the store most likely messed up the processing of the claim... if you sent it in for rapid exchange, the process is 3-5 days. if you send it in to have your unit repaired, the max would be 32-34 days (2-4 days to get to the service center - depends on what day the store ships it or if it is a weekend). at that time they can request a junkout due to it being out to repair for too long...
They also (supposedly) give you a comparable loaner phone while you're waiting...

I dont think they do loaners. Im keeping my insurance with bb until i get the otter box and the screen comes down in price. The insurance is about 240.00 for the 2 years and seems screens are closed to that as it is now. Lost, stolen, water damage and other are of not real worries to me. I have not have a problem that requires a cellphone replacement out of warranty ever! I had cellphones since the earlies 90s.
Does BB check if you flashed your ROM or not? If they do find out that you flashed your ROM, they can deny protection plan warranty right?
Also, can you cancel it anytime? In a span of 2 weeks, my note got replace once. On thursday, it will get replaced again. With this trend, I think BB protection plan is a good idea. They mentioned that if I will have my phone replaced, I could buy BB protection plan (even though I didn't buy it initially) I am planning of buying this protection plan and if I'm sure I got a good reliable galaxy note phone, I will cancel the protection right away. Probably after 2-3 months.
Is that a good plan?
You can cancel anytime when you are in the month to month. That they assured me because that is what I plan to do once I get the otter box and the display replacement drops a little more.

How often have you used yours? Now take the money you've paid and save it instead. See how much you are in the positive even if you had to repair your phone a few times yourself or at a shop?

Yes the Otterbox Defender as well as the Commuter comes with a screen guard built in. Did she have any kind of protection on the phone at all? A screen protector, a case of any kind?

Yes, she had a TPU case. Same cases we used with our EVOs and dropped many times without any issues...
And just curious how big was the drop, I've been using TPU cases on mine but will sell those and stick with the Otterbox full time instead of just when I'm around a bunch of kids if the drop was less then 4 foot.
I'd say it was right around 3.5 - 4 ft...
really 150$!!! i thought it was 100$$ cause when i lost my og evo they sent me the evo 3d and it was 100$
Pay with a credit card? Check with them, most card providers offer 90 accidental coverage.
Guess it's time to get rid of my TPU cases and stick with the Otterbox.
Will sprint replace the glass? When I had my evo (about a year old at the time), they replaced the glass in the store for only $30, might be worth asking.
Hey guys, I painfully bought a Tmobile Note 3 off a local cell phone store for 660 (New but without the extra nibs). I do have a little bit of buyers remorse in terms of the price cause it seems people are selling their used ones for $580. After haggling with Squaretrade, I got a 2 year accident portection for 97 bucks but I'd have to pay a 75 dollar deductable should I need to file a claim.
I was wondering if I could bypass insurance by getting an Otterbox? Have any of you used it with your Note 3 and how protective is it? Or are there better alternatives to insurance and Otterbox?
The guy says the phone has been unused and that insurance should work with Samsung but that it might be weird since I am using the phone on MetroPCS instead of Tmobile...Is there any truth to this?

So you're saying that it would be better to get a Spigen? And no need for insurance?
I hear good things about otterbox in terms of drop protection like the previous post mentioned. Spigen has the slim armor and slim armor view that have decent protection and seidio should be coming out with their obex if waterproof is something you are looking for.
I wouldn't shell out 170 for insurance that might be needed. Better spent on a tough case and protection for your phone. Just try your best to handle it like the 600 dollar device it is.
The case you linked seems to have lots of cushion material too. Tacking on extra accessories is also increasing the price you pay for that phone.

For max protection get the Trident Kraken or Otterbox defender. Keep in mind that there are those random freak accidents that no case will protect you from. Insurance gives you peace of mind and the deductible is way cheaper than buying a new one out of pocket.
With that said, I have no insurance. I paid $350 for my Note 3. I have a Tempered Glass screen protector, 2 UAG cases and a Trident Cyclops.
I've got the Trident Kraken and insurance from a company called Ensquared. It covers everything other than intentional damage.

I have both the case and insurance I'm paranoid I have the zero lemon 10000 mah battery case and a slim armor and slim armor view I'm not a fan of the bulk of otterbox without the functionality so I opted for the zero lemon but all in all I suggest to go ahead and shoot for the otterbox it's good protection from most things besides freak accidents also samsung doesn't have insurance if you crack your phone or have issues with the the device that are not deemed manufacturer error then samsung will not replace it
^^ +1, I'm paranoid too. I have the Otterbox plus insurance. I paid full retail and can't afford to replace the phone at full cost anytime soon.

How did you manage 350?
From the thread it looks like the consensus is to keep insurance and get the Otterbox? I do like the look of that slim hard case that has the little window for S view. How tough is that guy? Does the Otterbox or Trident allow easy access to the s-pen. Thats one thing I don't like about the case I have. Most times if I need it in and out like the at the gym, I just leave the pen outside
PS: Anyone know how long those nibs last/when it looks like you need to replace them?
I have looked at deals and started hearing horror stories from people buying their Note 3 somewhere else and I think I'll just let the AWESOMENESS of this phone help me forget the pain of shelling 665 for it

Yup, unless KK is available for T-Mo unbranded (boot loader issues maybe, would need to read and see)
Get a pair of balls. Not gonna use any of these ridiculous cases that turn my phone into a unusable brick. Not gonna buy any insurance that is not required by law. It's a thing. I enjoy it while it lasts.

$99.00 for 2 years, cracks and water damage and theft/loss included. 75.00 deductible. Intentional damage means doing drop or hammer tests.
Has anyone had any experience with any of the following insurance/warranty companies: Worth Ave Group, Upsie, Square Trade? When it's time to make a claim, do they honor their policies? I don't trust any of the reviews I can find, positive or negative. Worth Ave is compelling because they claim to offer loss/theft protection, the others do not. I've never lost a phone and I know that stealing phones these days doesn't result in a payoff for the thief, but thieves probably don't know that. It'd be nice to be protected just in case. I'm feeling vulnerable, not yet protected by a tempered glass screen protector or Samsung Premium Care, lol!
Sorry I've always used Assurant
Square trade has been awesome...next day replacement in some cases

Thank you, I'll look into cost comparisons between them and Samsung.
