If you'd disable sync you won't receive any mails anymore (unless you manually retrieve it).

What about using a different email client, like K9? I am not auto-syncing anything on my phone, but pushing emails was automatically activated for the google account...only an idea...

Ok, then it is not an option.
I am using the Gmail app only for googlemail accounts, and the email app for my business account, and would never use the built-in for gmail. But I guess other guys have different opinions....

You spam folder is not physically synced to your phone, just the message count.
Just turn off auto-sync.
set up a pop gmail account on the email app and clean data on gmail app, pop is best if you don't want imap sync.

if you have auto sync enabled yes you get notifications on all emails accounts, without auto sync you just get the emails when when you check the pop account manually
You can define what folders t sync in gmail app settings. Exclude spam folder in that.
Hope it helps.

If you want push and have a gmail account the email app is better than gmail. When setting up your gmail account in the Email.apk select exchange server enter your accounr/pwd info and m.google.com for the server. Email notification is instant not like gmail when you have to set the refresh rate.
Later!!

Yes! I do the setting in web gmail..
Finally found it! I now use Enhance Email app, it like using facebook inbox on email...no need to turn auto sync on...
Edit: on gmail app on android, even u set in gmail web not to sync spam the app will bypass it...so, enhance email is better

I use ebuddy, you can sign in to multiple accounts at once and the FB chat is really good. Plus it is free in the market.

Indeed! Until then, I agree with eBuddy. Definitely better than the 2nd best, Meebo.
Ebuddy until trillian comes out. Meebo keeps disconnecting.

Hey there,
I´m trying to find a good IM app, so far I tried eBuddy and Trillian, but both leave me connected even when I choose to disconnect; Mercury Messenger keeps reconnecting from time to time.
So, any ideas? Does not need to be multiprotocol, I use msn most.
Thanks in advance!
Try IM+ (paid) or imo: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.imo.android.imoimbeta&feature=search_result
There's always Trillian
---
sorry, i didn't see you tried it, but settings should have a disconnect upon sleep or after a certain amount of time if i remember correctly. It disconnects when I want it to, so i dunno?

I prefer Dolca HD personally. I use MSN, gtalk, and aim on it and it works brilliantly for me.

Best part is that it is fully optimized for tablets.

Thank you, guys, I´ll give both a try
anybody knows about a messenger app that encrypts
both messages on device and communication?
will pay for it if not free.
edit: none of the big ones (whatsapp, kakao, kik) mention in their FAQ
if they encrypt messages (both storage and communication) :[
