Root has nothing to do with orange firmware .
Route is flash a stock rom followed by rooting the phone
stock is plain vanilla Samsung no branding .

[Q] how easy is it to roll-back (un-root)?

Hi all,
A quick question on how easy to roll back (un-root) and put back the stock ROM?
My current ROM is stock Telstra ROM. (just bought the phone today)
PDA: DVKF4
PHONE: DVKF2
CSC: TELKF3
Build Info : Jun 21
I know how to roll back a HTC Desire - by installing the RUU image from HTC or use the PB99IMG.zip install method to remove "root" and put back into std ROM.
I have yet to root my SGS2. Reason to un-root and go back to stock ROM is for warranty purposes. you never know what will happen (for example, my desire decides to dies on me yesterday, had to put back stock ROM to submit for warranty claim).
thank you in advance

Nope. Jig is only required to clear the custom Rom counter, in case you have to claim warranty and return the phone to Samsung. And also to force the phone in Download mode, if something bad happens while flashing custom ROM etc.
hey cad,
Made any headway here?
I just bought an SGS2 from Telstra as well and I have a similar phone to yours.
PDA: DVKF4
PHONE: DVKF2
CSC: TELKF3
I too would like to retain the stock kernel, firmware and csc.
If we root with an insecure kernel, how do we go back to stock kernel if it's not downloadable?
Could we just flash another kernel if we are making a warranty claim and hope they don't check?
I assume CSC is where all the Telstra crap is stored and once we get ROOT, we should be able to back this up out of \system

Usual is flash a relevant stock rom or older stock rom and update via Kies.

Hi all I new to all this so could someone point me in the right direction...
1. I need a noob friendly guide to explain what rooting is.
2. How to root.
3 what is odin and all the tools required to root and flash custom firmware.
Video tutorials would be healpful. Im comming from a HTC HD2 but it feels like the explanations were easier to find.

[Q] Galaxy S II Firmware Upgrade 2.3.4 Help!

I have been researching the net on this and the posts in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278.
I haven't been able to post in there as I am a new user, but if someone can help me with this, it would be great.
I'm trying to upgrade my firmware to XXKH3 - Android 2.3.4.
My current version is:
PDA: I91000XWKE7
PHONE: I9100XXKE4
CSC: I9100OPSKE4
My Galaxy S II is rooted and it's on the OPTUS network in Australia.
My question is, how should I go about it?
Do I download the XXKH3 Stock Kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/C4DRUIJTLL and place that in PDA and PHONE in Odin?
And for CSC do I get this: Optus OPSKG1 CSC: http://www.multiupload.com/EPWZTIMS1F and place it in CSC?
I want to be able to use the OPTUS network on XXKH3, but without OPTUS bloatware. I'm just not sure which files to get so I can be with OPTUS on an Australian firmware if that makes any sense.
My last question is, would this then wipe my data? Or not?
I appreciate any help on this.

you are referring to the right thread. clear instructions are given on that thread.
choose the PDA option.
CSC has nothing to do with what languages the firmware supports and it will not add keyboard language support either.
You don't have to change the kernel or root or unroot to flash a new stock firmware.
You can then flash the kernel of your choice.
If you want the CF-root KH3 kernel. refer this thread
If you want to flash stock KH3 kernel you can also do that.
as far as operator bloatware is concerned search for operator specific bloatware removal scripts which can be executed using Gscript app . or a simpler option would be to freeze or uninstall the bloatware apps using Titanium back up Pro.
Thank you for the fast reply.
So pretty much all I need to do is put the XXKH3 Stock Kernel in the PDA option and that's it. So the OPTUS network will not be affected correct?
Then root it and I'm done?
Thanks again!

Hm. I just put XXKH3 Stock Kernel in PDA and flashed it but my phone still says Android 2.3.3. I used the CF-root KH3 kernel as well to root it again.
What do I need to do to get it to Android 2.3.4? Do I have to place it in PHONE as well?
The ROM is 2.3.4, just about any ROM in original development is. What you are trying to flash is kernel. Best of luck.

Er, Kernel is kernel and firmware is firmware. Flashing the kernel won't update the firmware, just the kernel.
Alright I think I understand now.
Downloading the package, which should do it and I guess the stock kernel is used to root/rid yourself of the yellow triangle.

It went well, the phone is working great.
My data didn't get wiped.
Follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278.
Download the XXKH3 package.
I also used Titanium to backup my apps just in case and MyBackup Pro for contacts etc. but haven't needed to use it.
After you flash that (if you want to root the phone) go to this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 and get CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KH3-v4.1-CWM4.zip. Put that in PDA and flash it.
To get rid of the yellow triangle, follow this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14283369&postcount=2.
That's it. Thanks for all your help guys!
ok so lets say I chose new stock firmware to avoid the triangle, then later wanted to be official, could i plug my phone into kies and updatd to official 2.3.4 without problems?
i would like to try oranges firmware without rooting the device and voiding my warranty!

[Q] Help rooting second GS2

I dont post often because I can usually (confidently) find what I need by reading all the great info already posted but I'm new to android and have a few questions.
I rooted my Galaxy S 2 really easily by reading/downloading various things throughout the forums...no problem. Currently runing CheckROM V5/Siyah v1.7.8 Kernel. It was easy because I had no problem locating the correct Kernel for rooting ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182922 )
A month later I got one for my wife for her birthday, threw out her old Iphone 3g and started trying to get it rooted. My problem is I can not find a matching kernel to root this one with. Its got XWKDD/2.3.3 on it...wont update through Kies and here is where my questions start:
Can I update this manually through odin with a stock 2.3.5 rom (or any other)? It should update the kernel along with the firmware and then I can find a matching one to root with...correct? I'm just a little nervous because searching for "KDD" in the forums yeilds like two topics that no one ever answered. Is there something weird about this firmware? Any help appreciated.
flash any stock firmware from Intratechs thread using Odin, that ought to do the job

[Q] How can i revert to UK firmeare

Hi,
I have downloaded UAE firmware and now i cant update my phone through kis, i am trying to revert back to a firmware that Kis can recognise.
Since i changed the firmware to UAE, the camera quality went really bad, when i spoke to Samsung, they told me its the firmware and you need to revert back and they are sure the camera quality will be better.
I am currently on
Android 2.3.5
Base version: I9100XXKI4
kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100JPK2-CL655700
Build: GINGERBREAD.JPKJ2
Any idea how Please?
Not sure why you'd want to flash anything to do with Stoke on your phone, but if you mean stock, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278

Take it easy man!! I am new here, dont have a lot of knowledge like you , as you can see i have made a mistake and trying to rectify it. the link you provided is full of information but i dont know which one to download.
PS: if you are are going to reply with some useless information then please don't bother
Question what firmware do you want original branded firmware or generic Samsung stock firmware .
From the link posted if you read down you come to .
XWKH4
Android 2.3.4
This package has: PDA: XWKH4| Modem/phone: XXKH3| CSC: XEUKD1
Download: http://www.multiupload.com/WWT5Q0XJAP
Its UK firmware that should update via KIES and is nothing to do with rooting .
Backup before installing and backup your EFS if you have not done so .
jje
Thanks for this.
latest firmware will do
Couple a questions. what does EFS stand for?
Also, the file appear to be an .exe extension. is this something i should worry about.
i though in order to go back to UK firmware i need to install a different Kernel or something like that.
The exe is a self extracting 7zip file which contains the firmware in tar format.

[Q] Which stock ROM works on my S3?

Hi all,
just upgraded from SGS2 -> SGS3 and my new SGS3 is a:
GT-I9300 (model)
4.0.4 (android)
I9300BVLG1 (baseband)
I9300XXBLG8 (build)
I'd like to upgrade to 4.1.1 but use a unbranded Samsung stock ROM and I found loads of different ones at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835931&highlight=official+rom
But which one do I choose?
I took a guess and started to download:
I9300XXDLI8 Download (Thanks To SamMobile.com)
Base Firmware: I9300XXDLI8 (4.1.1)
Region Europe
Country: United Kingdom
Carrier: Unbranded
Build Date: 15 September 2012
Modem: XXDLI8
CSC: OXADLI8
Change List: 178140
Will that one work on my S3? I'm a bit of a noob here on S3 land but I have been flashing and rooting on my S2 all successfully, but all these versions are a bit confusing and I have tried to search for some explanations on these different versions but I haven't really found anything, could someone please help?
Thanks in advance
Any I9300 stock rom would basically work. Just choose one for your region at Sammobile! You have to register, but it has all the stock FW you'll need.
Just make sure you flash the right one in ODIN under PDA with all the checkmarks as it, DO NOT TICK REPARTITION or anything else.
If you want to root afterwards, flash CWM, and then SuperSU/SuperUser, which one is just preference. I personally prefer SuperSU.
Any will do
Just go sammobile website download latest stock rom for your country
Else slowly ota update to jellybean if you haven't root

I'm from Argentina, using Movistar carrier phone. I've decided to use the last stock firm from UK, usually gots the latest firms updates, my recomendation, update to UK (BTU) from sammobile, then, root the phone, then, install triangle away, it will reset the counter for CFW. This time reset the samsung galaxy csc from the google play store, this will wipe your phone and reset to the desire country, select UK. Finally now you can check that your phone looks original, and is updateable with kies

Jepp, you're right, didn't notice that, so I went to your suggested post and also noticed:
'I am no longer supporting this version of CF-Root. I have personally moved away from permanent custom recoveries. I will still be providing roots by way of CF-Auto-Root (click). The downloads in this thread will remain available, I just won't be updating them..'
Hence I continued to the "CF-Auto-Root" link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957273
Which did the job just fine! Many thanks for the suggestion.
Just one thing, I thought I'd be getting that 'Yellow Triangle' and I would have to use the "remover" but I'm not seeing didn't, so I haven't used the "remover". So all I've done if flashed the 'I9300XXDLJ4' (BTU) ROM/FW and then the 'CF-Auto-Root-m0-gti9300.zip'
can anyone tell me if my S3 is now recognized as a "normal upgradable" phone by Kies ?
