I had to call VZW with an issue, about my razr, earlier this week. When I called the customer service number, they asked for my cell number. Then they informed me that they have the capability to remotely troubleshoot my Razr...... Then they asked for my consent to do just that. Of course i declined. If they have the capability to remotely access your phone WITH your consent, they have the capability to remotely access your phone WITHOUT your consent.
I have been searching for this for a few days now and can't find anyone discussin this at all. That surprised me. I would figure this to be a big issue in this community.
That all being said, here are the questions I have....
1. Does anyone have any knowledge of this, or was this just an isolated incident?
2. Is there any way to "freeze" software on the phone so they can not access my phone remotely?
Thank you in advance for any insight and help you all may provide.

I also would be interested in knowing abou this!
Anytime I have a problem and I call and they ask that I say I dont have my phone handy and will call back. I then restore it and call back. Usually depending on the problem they wany to to do a factory reset , check your software to see if your updated. Now if you are having a hardware issue like buttons or something they might just send out a replacement.
I'm pretty sure all they can access is the current state of your phone (basically just the info in ABOUT PHONE). They can't actually control your phone. They use the info to make sure you're supportable (not rooted, or running some crazy OC kernel). Makes sense for the non-rooted, but can get you some snarky remarks from CS if you are...

This is the Rescue Security app that shows up under all apps and in the/system/app directory. Yes, it is a full remote access client, no, it can't be accessed without your giving them specific codes when you enter the key combination specified. Just like enterprise remote access for support. Good idea, I thought.
Here's the info, you have to download this app first: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lmi.moto.rescue

Nope. Not yet.
I don't see why it matters to anyone why someone wants this.
I want this too. I don't have to explain to anyone as to why I want it. Because, it is absolutely none of your business. If you don't know how to implement it, then don't post.
Lol. This is a public forum. Of course you don't have to explain why you want something. Equally, if someone who could help doesn't want to, because they suspect you're up to no good, they don't have to justify their actions either, let alone help you. Blessed be.

Touché. I'll admit it. The main reason I want this is to mess with my friends. Nothing actually detrimental. Same reason I like sms bombers, and caller id fakers.
But still, this would be great to add on to my list
This would be so awesome..just from a security standpoint to be able to show and explain to friends and family to not there guards down when it comes to cyber theft and to turn off your radios when not in use
I never quite understand answers like this. This forum is for the exchange of information, not personal opinions. People that think their some kind of 'ethics police' need not be on this type of site. This site is for the exploration, hacking and development of our phones. Rooting & custom firmware is frowned upon by security researchers and manufacturers alike, but because your into it, it's morally correct?

Yep, one man's "not needed" is another man's necessity. This is no less needed than say someone thinking they need a ps3 controller (or wiimote) working with their phone, but no one really complains about that.
here's a very legitimate reason for you so if you know how PM me
Hi,
A friend of mine has an older mobile with a broken touchscreen - the phone no longer has a SIM or a RAM card and is in "Music Sync" mode when it connects to a PC via USB.
They are currently in a court case and need to get their old SMS's off the broken phone - all the "forensic" mobile software out there (from $500 up to $5000!!!) require that the phone is in PC-Suite (or PC-Sync) mode. This can't be changed on the phone as the touchscreen doesn't work.
The only way to get to the SMS's is by Bluesnarfing, so if you know of a PC program or a WinMo 6.5 program that will let me access their phone PM me.
Thanks.
Why is there always that one person that offers no assistance, takes up bandwidth questioning your motives...
For those that don't know:
"Bluesnarfing is the theft of information from a wireless device through a Bluetooth connection, often between phones, desktops, laptops, and PDAs. This allows access to a calendar, contact list, emails and text messages. Bluesnarfing is much more serious in relation to Bluejacking, although both exploit others’ Bluetooth connections without their knowledge. Any device with its Bluetooth connection turned on and set to “discoverable” (able to be found by other Bluetooth devices in range) can be attacked. By turning off this feature you can be protected from the possibility of being Bluesnarfed. Since it is an invasion of privacy, Bluesnarfing is illegal in many countries."

Ok so I have a 3D on my line which belongs to my sister. Well she works at the mall and some Indian guy that used to work for Sprint is telling her he hacks into her phone all the time and uses her internet and that if he wanted to he can access her photos too. So is this possible or is he just bs'in to spark coversations with her? I'm about ready to go over to her job and confront him. I find that sort of behavior creepy and intolerable! Any1 has any idea??

idk man, you need to do some dental work.
I don't know if a "random" person could hack a phone. But:
1. Is the phone rooted? That would give a person more ability to do something bad.
2. There are "spy" software out there. But the guy would have had to have a few minutes alone with the phone.
3. Maybe install malware through an E-mail or text message.
But to use her phone for Internet access sounds pretty weak. Easier and better methods of doing that at a mall where public WIFI is all around.
Bottom line, if you are actually concerned, just have your sister do a factory restore, that wipes everything and then reinstall her apps one at a time validating all are suppose to be on her phone.

If that Indian guy (not me ) is using android phone or PC, he surely is using apps like FaceNiff, Cain & Abel, ANTI, ettercap, DroidSheep, NetCut etc....
So this app should help but it will not work to its full potential as your Sisters phone is not rooted.
Or you can tell her to disable internet or wifi on her phone.
P.S You said the guy used to work for Sprint, Is your Sis using a Sprint Phone?
Is her phone CIQ free?
wloftus had it down.
The only other thing I can think of is he has get password to a security app that can backup pictures and whatnot.
Bottom line is this sounds like a classic harassment case. Get him to text her about this for evidence, go to the police, he gets arrested and the girl is protected by a no contact order. Pretty simple.

I've hope it's obvious that I was joking about the violence as I do think the police should get involved if this guy is harassing her. The implication from the op is that this guy is doing this from a distance so the wifi hot spot does not seem to be the way he is doing it. Since he worked for sprint, he could be using a back door of some sort.

its not possible - andvwhen he works for sprint, you should go to his boss.
when he touched her mobile phone, you can go to court (when you want to)
has she enebled usb-debugging/adb access? disable it.
check all installed user apps if there is dome suspicious with ****loaads of permissions (camera, file access, microphone, etc)

Do any of you know anything about software at all? there is only one way to get into the phone and that is through the bluetooth. Other than that, very unlikely someone IN A MALL COULD DO THAT! there are hundreds of phones. plus, one threat like that to start off is subject to be terminated from any position he is in. HE likely got fired from sprint because he acts like he can do things he has no idea about.
However, 99.9% chance there is NO WAY the stupid small penis indian man can get into her phone. but one fact is that his face needs punched more than a few times... just make sure no one rats you out. make sure there is no one that sees you smash his face in. If the Indian doesn't learn a lesson now he'll just keep playing this game with everyone he walks into. He needs to learn one way or another.
Oh, I'm being nice too. If we were in any other country. he'd just have a bullet through his head.
However, I shouldn't even have said anything about the bluetooth part... but everyone needs to understand.. this is a topic we shouldn't even talk about. the reason is that kids that have no lives will use this information to attempt to find ways to spy on their gf's and stuff because they are low life fools.
anyway, to end this off.. I do thank everyone in here for being valued members of this forum... Remember do things responsibly. Anyone caught in here violating any law or creeping on others should be banned without question and legally should be held responsible for their actions.
to finish it completely off. the indian guy is a creep. he was fired from sprint for the same bs he doing to her. report him and have him fired again. PS. there is nothing in my comment that is racist, wrong, bad, blahblahblah. I'm a perfect little angel.

well, you can not only go into it via wifi. so my question: do you know anything? (exploits, etc)
if the mall has a open wlan, she should use secure sites only "https://blablabla.com" only... it is possible to hijack traffic, for example in malls "man in the middle method" (do not know why i know this.... )
another way to secure her phone is, to deactivate the installation of unsigned / non-market apps.
also, a password or sth other to unlock isnt a bad idea.
so, have fun - btw, you could ask that question for every android handset, op

There are WiFi sniffing tools on android. There are WiFi spoofing tools on android.
Possibility is there, change Gmail password never hurts.
But seriously, no sharing WiFi with other people and logging into private bank/Facebook/ other sites where your logged in with 50 other people on open WiFi. That stuff can be picked up, username/passwords.
Intimidation is the best answer...big guy comes up "alright who's the yutz messing with MY sister!"
On wed. work gave us all note 2 for our new hand held devices. The thing is the software we use for work is in the makings. like a scanner app. They took out the play store so we can not download anything. Now I have been an android guy since day 1, I cant write code on anything like that but i root and rom with the best of them. i can root this pig and get the things back on here what i need. I have a few guys counting on me to get it done. I just want some feed back as what I should do. Mind you they did send out a disclaimer saying dont do this or download that. can they really catch me?
Probably not, but if they did how bad are the repercussions?

Some companies have root checkers for their secure network. So can they tell of you're rooted, probably not. However your phone may not connect to your needed services, but you could try a root hider and may get around it

Also what ya gonna do if they are standing there and demand your phone to check it. Just think through the risks first.
Also yeah it may block you with a root checker and overcoming that is a PITA but doable.
Also be prepared to loose everything if you somehow leak private company information.
This sounds a littler different than companies who just check for root. Your company has gone a step further than that. They are obviously pretty serious.

1) Yes they can tell, quite easily.
2) Its not worth the loss of your job.
3) If your the guy in charge of the rooting, you get fired the rest of the sheep get warnings.
4) The reason to lock up a device is for security reasons while your device has work realted information on it. Even a contact list /addressbook is valuable information if it has CEO/CFO/CTO direct phone numbers/emails/IM etc... Let alone emails containing intellectual property or trade secrets.
I have run systems & network security for several companies and while I make exceptions depending on the request and/or person. If you do it and they ever want to terminate you....... they just found a way to fire you *with cause* aka no unemployment any time.
Also: I didn't even mention customized mobiletracker/CarrierIQ and similar background services that announce to me everything your running/useage/software versions etc... the moment your device authenticates with any cellular/wireless network and has connectivity.

Disastrous result: in a moment the message was sent several times to exhaust myself up

It is hard to provide you with any kind of relevant answers as you did not give us any information about your phone. Are you S-OFF/S-On. Did you Root you phone. Are you running a Insecure kernel or Custom Rom?
These are just some basic questions. However if you did modify your phone and it did not operate as intended. I would hardly expect a refund. As Roms are "Use at your own risk" type of situations.

From a Technicians standpoint I would actually glean towards it being a network related issue where the tower on your end is not confirming the receipt handshake between the phone and the network. So the device continues to repeat the sending process until it recives confirmation from the network. This is not to say that the root cause of the issue you are experiencing isn't related to the hardware either, only a suggestion but probably best to contact your carrier to confirm. Some carriers include software to triage this issue and ensure the problem is an isolated incident rather than sporadic. Ex. Sprint Zone.

I turned to my operator (three). The kind person who answered said
that he would speak with the technicians of my problem and call me back.
What he has done on time. As far as supported by the technical problem arises precisely
by the command "send contact as vcard" which, they say, is the only one responsible for my problem!
* The question now is: how do I delete from Android 4.3 Jelly Beans said command?
We have been through five phones -Samsung Galaxy, then Motorola, two internet providers two cell phone providers, made so many calls I have lost count. He uses Chromebook and a Motorola Droid phone. He has even hacked my old home phone, tv, you name it, he has tried to own it . Oh, I forgot-my home security and ring doorbells also. I can change an app permission and I can see him go right in and change it back. I am sure he lives close in the neighborhood How do I get rid of this horrible person?
He grays out permissions, default apps, etc., Which keeps me from being able to delete an app, or change someone being able to access in the background. He has confiscated our emails (Gmail), prevents us from sending or receiving ones he doesn't like. He uses email for email on the web, advertising, chat, and many other things. He listens to phone calls steals all photos, maps addresses to companies or people in contacts, uses maps for ?? Xxx an anyone help me, or at least tell me how to reverse graying out on apps? This has become unbearable! Thank you!

Sorry. See reply in post.
Bro, I'm so sorry. My husband has been going through this VERY thing for the past year. They don't mess with mine. I just wanted to let you know even though I don't have any resolve for you, I hear you and know that it's not phony and we totally feel for you. Seriously, maybe you and my hubby can talk. I'm so sorry that you're going through it. Feel free to message me.
This sounds like a great fan fiction and will bookmark this to see how the story develops. Thank you for putting this in Moto G Power section right where it belongs!
Sounds like you might need to invest in a router with better security features.

It has been a nightmare! They started with mine, and have now invaded my husband's phone also.

Why are you posting on XDA? If you are this convinced that someone has unauthorized access to your devices, you need to be talking to law enforcement. The best advice we can offer you is to change all your passwords immediately, enable 2 factor authentication, and if possible seek a restraining order. XDA is a smart device hacking and development community, not a private investigation service.

I didn't think you were a p.i. firm. Obviously, I am not tech savvy. A little kindness please? I simply want to know how to ungray grayed out app permissions. I have searched on my own and cannot find the answer. I have reported it to local police, state police, Motorola, Samsung, Verizon, Xfinity, metronet, on and on and on. No help from anyone. I don't have $2,500.00 to just put down a retainer for a p.i. I knew someone on this forum would know the answer I am searching for and might kindly tell me. Thank you.

Well, it can be hard to distinguish the difference between reasonable concern over privacy violations vs unwarranted paranoia, and you aren't the only one who's come to XDA with this type of story. Most of your assumptions are likely mistaken and can be simply explained by the nature of Android itself.
Remote intrusion of mobile devices is actually pretty rare. The most common ways bad actors get ahold of sensitive user information are: phishing, user-approved permissions on questionable apps such as TikTok, and "connected" social media accounts, where users allow websites and apps access to their social media profiles, or use their social media as a login.
Regardless, to the technical point of the matter, grayed out app permissions are not the result of hacking or surreptitious malfeasance, but rather the nature of the "rules" inherent to Android - you can't remove system apps or disable system-controlled permissions without root.
If you still think you have reasons for concern, this is my only suggestion:
Change your phone number
Immediately change all relevant passwords - minimum 10 characters, a mix of upper case, lower case, numbers, and special characters, do not reuse them
Enable 2 factor authentication on all accounts, ensuring your 2nd factor is something that you and only you have access to
Once done, sign out all devices signed into those accounts
Perform a factory reset on your device; even better, reflash factory firmware. Keep bootloader locked.
Do not use questionable apps
