[Q] Touch sensitivity gone slow after ICS - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I installed I9100XXLPB_I9100OXXLP5_OXX a few days ago to try out the leaked ics rom. Everything seems to be working good except for the touch sensitivity.
When for example, writing a text message, the typing seems to be less reactive (misses a lot of the letters press) compared to the stock OS (2.3) i had installed.
I'm using Swiftkey. Tried using the stock version but the problem is still there.
And also, when scrolling down a menu for example, it doesn't really run smoothly as it should. I keep entering apps by accident because the touchscreen isn't responding properly.
Any ideas?

This has been discussed in the ics threads. Try checking in those threads for a possible fix.

why dont you try LPH that issue was kinda fixed on that leak

Ics has changed the feel of things in general. I actually like the feel of gb better. Not quite sure what the hype of ics is just yet. Hopefully the final sgs2 ics version gets fixed up a bit more.

Your experience with the new ICS roms and Leak ICS rom

I'm actually proof the ICS Phone Bricker 2.0.1 on may Samsung Galaxy SGH I777 and this is what i found on it:
1.-When i use the Talk app and somebody write to me it make a weird sound again....and again....and again......
2.- I must make around 15 wipes and go back to the factory kernel and root again my cellphone and over 3 hours or more left i make my phone works with my service provider because in ever install of this rom not works.
3.- Going crazy trying to recognize SD card on my PC.
4.- Lag buttons
5.- apk's like Android Overclock, or Chainfire 3D Pro Crashes if u reboot your phone.
6.- Takes a lot of time to sync with my Wireless Access Point.
7.- Some native functions on Setting not works.
Please comment your experiences about this ROMs.
Was on the rooted leaked ROM posted by task but I just restored back to UnNamed 2.2.1 after a couple of days. It bugged me that I was not able to view battery stats and contacts tab was missing in the dialer. I hated the wifi bug of it not being able to reconnect automatically.
I really liked that the stock messaging app did not show mms as slide show and I loved the pattern lockscreen (clock, brighter wallpaper and smaller dots). Never did get the weather to show on there though.
For me UnNamed works better. Might try out SHOstock this weekend if I am not too busy.

im on the ShishirROM ICS and i love this thing! i tried phonebricker and another one and then ShishirROM was the last one i tried and i have been on this ever since. i have yet to notice a single bug that i can find... i came from unnamed and i can say that i dont believe i am going to be going back to it since ive installed this. i have had it on my phone for 4-5? days.
I tried Mystic's rom and was not satisfied with ICS, i've been on unnammed 2.2.1 for awhile and with launcher pro it flys. I used Apex launcher but it still seemed that the rom lagged switching screens. I use email a lot for work and hated that the background was black instead of white like GB. Overall, the rom was well done by Mystic no real bugs I could see but I think I am going to wait for our source to drop and hope who ever did UnNamed makes an ICS rom. I can deal with the battery issues of KK6, I gotta have my speed.

We have the i9100 source already and the only real benefit from i777 leaks could be NFC if it were included. Ultimatum is a good ICS ROM which will be rebased soon. Phone Bricker is also good I don't know what the OP is doing wrong. Most of it is just waiting for better i9100 firmware to be released along with allowing time for our current kernels to mature a bit.

I've tried several ICS ROMs and they've all had some sort of bugs floating around in them. I'm currently using ShishirROM ICS and it's been the smoothest so far.
I think a lot of the problems are with the latest UCLC2 Modem. I was having major heating issues and reverted back to KH7. Now all is well.

Did you try different modems?
Nobody else is having this issue as of yet.
3.- Going crazy trying to recognize SD card on my PC.
ICS changed how USB storage works, hope you know that.
4.- Lag buttons
Seriously? These are early stages and every build and kernel update makes things better.
5.- apk's like Android Overclock, or Chainfire 3D Pro Crashes if u reboot your phone.
Overclocking/volt changing does not work properly, its in development by the kernel devs (PLEASE DON'T BOTHER THEM)
6.- Takes a lot of time to sync with my Wireless Access Point.
Haven't heard of this problem before.
7.- Some native functions on Setting not works.
I removed a good amount of bloat, but only things that don't work is the "track me" settings as I don't care for it.
If you want it I could have sent you the apks but nobody has requested for it in my thread.

Oh good Lord. Not only do we have like 2 dedicated ICS threads, this thread serves ABSOLUTELY no purpose. Im not going to allow threads to be started to bash Dev's hard work (THAT STILL IN PROGRESS I might add) and to just whine. If you dont like ICS, then downgrade back to GB. No need to start a thread about it.

Why, oh WHY is the rezound So laggy for a duel core phone?

i have tried almost all the roms out there, sense, no sense etc and the rezound is SO laggy. especially on ICS. the last thing i tried yesterday, was the stock LEaked ICS, and i debloated it myself, and it is so slow. i had to do a battery pull 4 times on the way home last night while using instagram. honestly, im using my INC2 now, and it is so much less laggy and faster on both, ICS and GB
the specs are so nice, but man, its terrible. the ONLY thing i have not tried are custom GB roms. i SO love the look and feel of this phone, and the battery life is good. but man, i cant take the laggyness. i sooooo want to solve this
thoughts?
maybe you have a lemon?
Not sure what lag you're seeing. Mine is pretty good. Every now and then some lag will creep up but overall its lagfree and snappy.
Most roms I've tried even gb roms are somewhat laggy except rezrom gb. Nils business ics is also good for me. Ics lag is mainly due to kernel as there is no source yet. Is the stock Rom laggy for you as well? I've noticed this phone doesn't respond too well to underclocking like my EVO did

How does one define lag anyways? What I might think is fast and quick maybe to slow for you. But as the others have said you may have a lemon. Look in the general thread for on how to s on. You will have to run the latest Gb ruu then do the s on command. I do not know it of the top of my head right now.. but make sure you are on a signed stock hboot before you s on
there's got to be something wrong with your phone. i'm still on stock & performance wise it's comperable to the galaxy nexus. oh and battery life sucks on all 4g phones.

Very true....i define lag as, when i press the home button, it takes a sec or two to get to home, all other phones i have owned goes right to home. opening apps, kinda slow compared to other phones as well. typing, VERY laggy unless i shut off vibration and the pop ups...
try factory reset it help sometimes after debloating

its lags everytime ?

Mine does not do that at all.
I do a fair bit of texting all day & using Smart Keyboard Pro with vibration/popups on I get absolutely no lag whatever.
My phone will run weeks at a time without rebooting or freezing & I don't remember it ever FCing in any situation.

Ahh hrm maybe it's just the Sense 4.0 ROM's that Instagram may or may not work on....haven't run a 3.6 ROM in a long time
I have a similar problem to the original post. It has been taking about 2-3 seconds to enter settings, bookmarks within browser, etc. I have boiled it down to maybe a hardware issue. My phone ran great on GB though, so idk.I am rooted with s-off on the ICS leak with the fixed kernel. It usually runs good after first installing a rom, but then lag along. And this is with no apps downloaded.
I have another unrooted, non s-off Rezound with GB and it flies. I think I am going to switch to that. Hopefully when we get official ICS I can compare the two devices.
Long story short, I have the same problem but I am finding most people don't have this lag issue. Don't know what is causing it. Maybe I screwed up my hardware during s-off.

I have no clue, good question though. Worth looking into for others. Although I think there is a way to get back to S-ON in a thread in the Development section? My phone was Stock S-Off so I lucked out with that, so I'm sure I can, I'm sure you would be able too as well.

[Q] screen not that responsive..

Hello all here is my question I recently updated from gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich cyanogen.. and I realize that the screen wasnt too responsive. For example I would make a lot of typos while typing and scrolling webpages would have to be done an extra scroll to go where I needed to be.. so then I thought it was just a bad install so I wiped/cleared cache and Installed aokp
Needless to say that the problem is still there and even typing this question out is driving me crazy with all the corrections I have to make.
Can someone shine some light on the subject please. BTW it did t have this problem before I updated
Thank you in advance

Try going to stock gingerbread
Scrolling and screen responsiveness were changed in ICS. Just gotta get used to it, or as the poster above me mentioned, go back to GB.
Might I suggest doing a Full Wipe (not just the cache) and/or trying a different ICS Rom? I tried multiple ICS Roms before I settled into one that I liked. The scrolling and screen responsiveness is a bit different that the GB Roms, but I wouldn't consider it too much different in my opinion.
I always do full wipes before I install ROMs but I think its something more than that. I've seen videos of cm jelly bean and aokp ROMs on the i777 and it seems nice and fluid. This just doesn't feel right
It's not just CM9; it's all ICS roms as far as I can tell. I did notice a big improvement switching from ICS to Jellybean. Try CM10 or AOKP JB and see how you feel about it.

You guys ... its not an issue with GB or ICS or jb. Its something I know phone
I have friends who have jb and ICS and they feel fine to me.
Its something else. If I start at the top of a scrollable webpage and flick my finger quickly down, it seems like something stops it. Then I try again and it scrolls fine..
I will be in my album drawer swiping right then right again and sometimes it thinks I'm swiping left and goes left.
Sometimes I have to hit buttons twice so they work etc

It's that Samsung in their "infinite wisdom" decided too change it. It doesn't mean it doesn't work well with ics and jb, just that the touch sensitivity is different.

Honestly, I am lost. Tried everything and just nothing really works.
Same Rogers Note. And exactly those yellow screen crashes!
4.0.4 - zero crashes but it's just so boring.
4.1.2 - up to 3 crashes a day then using phone and around 3 more then not using!
4.2.2 - less crashes that's for sure and almost every crash happened during the call or after I was finished talking and hung up. Though not a single Voip app (tango, Viber) works. There is simple no sound using those. So I can't use it.
I went from having 251 apps to 82. From 12 root access requiring apps to 4. Every flash of the new ROM was with wiping absolutely everything (system, cache, android.secure, dalvik, interal card). Tried different kernels and modems. Nothing. Still crashing.
So after two weeks of complete failure I am downloading this stock ROM again. That's the only thing what works without crashing plenty of times.
You could try unrooting, reverting to stock, and then re-rooting again. I've heard that work for a few people

Agreed, but the JB ports do have all the issues OP mentioned.
All silicon is not created equal.
never use transfer to sd while phone is on, always slow.
either use airdroid if you have decent wifi or reboot to recovery and mount to pc to transfer files
both those options should solve your slowness while phone is on transferring
kernel crash's will happen there is no way around that until samsung stops updating midrange phones and gives us jb and its source.
as its well known we are using ICS stuff in our kernel which clearly is not 100% capable but still has us 95% jb stable.
Stable Rom
im using padawan8 rom which is ICS rom... its running smooth! but i got bored and i flashed to paranoidkangdroid which is 4.2.2.. and havent experienced any reboots or crash! thanks!
I am using Nebula ICS rom, based off of Canadian ICS, no bloat. It is just a better version of stock rom. You can add addons for Padawan, if needed.
No issues whatsoever.
If you don't want the drama with JB roms, old boring ICS is the way to go.

So true. Just went back to ICS ROM (Blackstar X) and not a single reboot during 3 days. Yes it feels a bit slower than JB and not that nice. Also I love ASOP and this one is TW so still will be looking for something else I think. But other than that it's rock solid.
While two weeks of using different 4.1.2 and 4.2.2 ROMS was a complete nightmare
Been on SOA since B1 with no reboots at all. No issues what so ever. You can find it in the Original Dev section. GL

[Q] ROMs - whats the go?

Hey all,
I've tried to trawl all I can, but im coming up short, so please bear with me.
Just got a XTZ last week, a SGP 321 (16GB LTE) with 10.1.1.A.1.307 pre loaded.
What is the lastest FW/ROM that is available for this unit? and what are the practical benefits?
What are the best custom roms from your experience??
I've got a Xperia Z and a HTC one, both running custom ROMs (both stock based), so im familiar with the general benefits, but just want to know what has been developed for far for the XTZ?
thanks

I've tried 2 custom roms so far, Free Xperia CM10.1 and P.A.C. ...and I've gone back to Sony stock each time
The most obvious issue many complain about is the over-sensitive touch screen. Sony have fixed this in their latest roms (you have the latest for yours) but it's still an issue in custom roms. Causes things like zooming on web pages when you are just trying to scroll, and can drive you mad when trying to place the cursor when editing text. Those with WiFi only tablets (311/312) will also lose GPS.
I also found my tablet became very laggy after a while with the PAC ROM. Shame, I love having Pie - the permanent status/nav bar on stock is one thing that annoys me.
Altogether, I'd stick with stock for now untill Sony release an official 4.2.2 Rom and the devs can then incorporate the fixes from it for the above problems.

Most (if not all) custom ROMs here are based on the latest version of Android (currently 4.2.2) - that's one of the main attractions of using them.
Currently the stock Sony ROMs are based on 4.1.1. However, Sony are very close to releasing their own 4.2.2 ROM for the Tablet Z...but android 4.3 is already "out there"...so it goes on.
You'll always be a few steps behind with a Stock ROM, but for me the Stock ROM is good enough - apart from the permanent Navigation Bar (I prefer Pie).
By the way, if you look at recent posts in the CM10.1 Free Xperia thread looks like someone may have come up with a fix for the over-sensitive touch screen...I may be tempted to try a custom ROM again if the fix works

It's really bloody annoying when you're in the middle of playing a game or browsing and the tab decides to open the task switcher or press the back button!

I thought it was phantom touches as well but the latest update fixed it for me. I tested it before the update though and the touches were coming from where my fingers were on the back of the device.

I didn't get them on the older fw. Only on this one. And I'm also getting it when I'm not even holding the tablet, just whilst laid flat on the table??

The ones I have tried
At the moment I am using CM 10.2 available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386786
Seems to work well, extremely fast. There are some problems mainly with the onscreen keyboard and chrome but this is not really an issue.
I have also tried PAC which in my mind has way too many options and functions that collide with each other. Some of the options you choose from different roms actually overwrite each other which causes problems. You can find the rom from here:

CM 10.1 avalailable here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2284469
This one works well. It is stable and quite fast. DidnĀ“t have any problems with it. Used for a long time and changed to another rom simply because...well I got bored. For day to day use this is the one to have.
