[Q] Prime not behaving... - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

[EDIT]
Sorry admin - i've moved to Q&A section....
Hi all,
My first post and i've searched extensively for answers but nothing has helped!
I have a prime - for nearly 2 months now, as soon as I got it I updated to ICS then updated one more time to 9.4.2.11.
I've now not been able to update OTA to .14 and now not even the .15 update that's available. I've tried manually updating which always ends up with the android laying down with the explanation mark above him.
I did root my system - it's not unlocked (yet) which is another thing
- tonight after not being able to update manually or OTA i tried unlocking to use the new ROM available - but again no luck as the unlock tool keeps telling me that it failed to unlock, please try again later... I've tried...
- Unrooting
- Factory resetting
- Updating manually
Would appreciate any light on the problems i'm having...

Have you modified any system files or deleted any stock apps that comes with the prime? If so that is your issue. You need to have all the stock system files and apps in place or OTA will not update.
Hi,

OTA doesnt find update

Hi,
I just downgraded from .21 to .15, rooted and installed OTA Rootkeeper.
Now I want to upgrade to .21 again, but my TFP doesnt find any updates...
When I check manually via the "About"-Menu in Settings, it says there's no update available for my device.
Has anyone else had similar problems?
Do you know any solution?
Can i upgrade manually to .21 and restore root successfuly?
I have heard of this before. You might want to read Wolf downgrade thread as solutions was posted in there. You might need to install a different reigon version of the firmware. Its a matter of installing a firmware THST will look for the update. That's what I read in there.
No way to manually upgrade and restore root. At least at the moment. The only other way is to just unlock your prime, install TWRP or CWM, then flash a custom rom that's already rooted that's based off of .21. Please post back up anything you find out or a solution. AS I'm testing the new .28 beta build and will likely need a similar solution in order to root. What you posted is what I was afraid of going the downgrading route. That once downgraded, it won't even see a new update in order to update to latest firmware and voodoo can't work its magic on it. Keep us posted.

Thanks for your response.
I read the whole Thread with Wolf's Tutorials.
I found some posts of guys having the exact same issue, but I did not find a single reply with any solution
No more ideas on this problem?
That's what I did installed .15 rooted and installed virtuous prime basically a stock .21 rom that's rooted and very stable ..... currently i'm running Andro Wook custom v1.0 works very well and speedier than stock but if you're looking for completely stock virtuous prime or Andro wook also has stock rooted roms as well
I did the same thing yesterday but it worked for me.
Make sure you're downgrading with the correct country SKU matching your original one. (WW, US, DE, etc...)
The procedure I used ONLY works on a locked bootloader. If you have unlocked with the Asus tool you cannot get OTA updates.
Asus has pulled all the old firmware!
So, I did not have a US V9.4.2.15 blob but found one (http://d-h.st/hGK) from this post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25503960&postcount=47
Also notice what hajalie24 is replying in that post: "Probably because you used WW on a US prime.."
Downgraded from .21 to .15 using wolf849's method 2 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622628
DO NOT USE THIS METHOD ON AN UNLOCKED DEVICE.
Rooted using viperMOD_PrimeTime_v4.6 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427125
Installed OTA RootKeeper and backed su - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper
Checked for update in About tablet / System Firmware Update. It saw .21 and upgraded successfully.
Used RootKeeper and restored root successfully.
I understand you might have done the same steps, but I wanted to post the exact procedure I used because it worked.

Thanks for your detailled post.
I have done it exactly this way.
There are many people facing the problems with missing OTAs and not being able to unlock their devices.

I've done it the same way as you and others 1 month ago and could update to .21 without problem.
But I know 1 person who downgraded and rooted his locked TF201 few days ago (following the exactly same steps with correct blob) and can't update.
He tried everything after downgrade: waiting 1 or 2 days / wiping data / uninstalling updates of google apps. He does not get OTA update.
if someone has a solution....
EDIT: probably reason for the user i mentionned: he had unlocked his tablet weeks ago. Then he sent it to support because it was bricked. The tablet came back with .21 and relock. It seems that now he can't update after downgrade nor unlock his device. Maybe because of the serial number registered by Asus.

Yes, I would not be surprised if Asus service re-flashes the tablet back to life and "forgets" to reset that serial number in their database so it can get updates again

Trouble Updated [Verizon - US]

Back story: I recently rooted my Droid Razr (it was my first time rooting an Android phone) and completed it without a hitch. However, the update that was released after I rooted downloaded automatically and I became annoyed with the prompt to install now or later. So I unrooted and installed the update. No problems occurred. Fast forward to this morning. A new update is available (it's been available for about a week now, I'd say) and I go to install it. The phone turns back on and says, "Software update has failed!". I am not currently rooted, I've been too busy to re-root the phone. Now I'd like to install this update. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I'd go about doing this?
Thank you for any replies.
Edit: I apologize in advance if this isn't the appropriate section.
Edit 2: I have another question. Is it possible to update a phone's firmware when they are no longer associated with a carrier. I have an older Android phone I'd like to use as a Wifi only phone for apps and such. Am I able to install updates? It seems like the answer would be no, because the phone wouldn't know where to search for the updates. Perhaps a manual install is available?

[Q] Question re root limbo on GT-I9300 post Kies firmware update

Hi, appreciate this is my first post and thus my question will be regarded with a certain amount of skepticism.. am only posting cos I think my issue is unusual and have not been able to find a similar question/answer through my searches on this forum
Basically, the issue is I rooted my Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) a month or so ago, installed clockwork mod and superuser etc,. however I held off flashing a ROM because I figured my OTA jellybean update was imminent and wanted to see what the touchwiz jellybean looked like before installing Cyanogen or another ROM. wasn't sure if the OTA would come thru once I shed the stock ROM
So I waited for weeks for the OTA (am on Orange, now Everything Everywhere, in the UK) and have not received it.. last week I went onto Kies and saw there was a new firmware update, so I updated thru Kies thinking that might be what was needed to receive the OTA JB update. updated the firmware but still no JB update - however, now when I check my root status on Root Checker, or try to use any app that requires root, I'm told that I don't have "proper" root access.
My question is updating the firmware over Kies, did that mess up my root access.. am I now unrooted? (this doesn't seem correct) It seems to me I am in a limbo of sorts - not properly rooted anymore, but not fully unrooted either. I want to root the thing again so I can install cyanogen or supernexus, and I would appreciate advice on what to do - should I do a factory reset and then root again as before, or will this cause issues.. was just gon soldier ahead and do it but aware that this may cause problems if my phone already has files from the previous attempt on there.. for example the SGS3 toolkit V.6.0.0 I'm using says not to proceed with its root operations on a phone "that's already rooted" so am hesitant to proceed. Any advice would be appreciated. cheers
You've lost root with the update, just root again and it's all good.

[Q] Can I update without unrooting?

Hey, I'm rooted and s-off, running (firmware, I think) 2.06.605.1 710RD. I've been ignoring the software update Verizon sent out a while ago by pressing the home button on my phone whenever the update popup appears, but I'd like to make it go away for good, and the best way to do that is to update.
The thing is, I'd like to do it without the hassle of unrooting and going back to s-on (if I even need to do that) to update, then getting s-off and root again. I heard it's possible if you flash a pre-rooted ROM of the update through a custom recovery, and I found a pre-rooted, updated rom a while ago on the forum, but now I can't find it. The update is called HTC6435LVW_2.07.605.1-2.06.605.1.
First of all, will this work?
Secondly, I'm going to keep searching for the 2.07 rom, but can anyone let me know if they have a link to the thread?
Thanks for your help.
Edit 2: To all who saw my first edit, I have confirmed that this is the TTY update, not the 4.2.2 update. However, I think the 4.2.2 update will be available after I flash the 2.07 update, so please let me know if flashing a pre-rooted rom still works for entire OS updates (and if there even is a pre-rooted rom for 4.2.2 yet).
Edit 3: Wow, I should have finished reading xda's article on the subject before I edited last time. Apparently there's already a pre-rooted rom for the 4.2.2 update, so that won't be a problem. Ok, that should be all.
