I am looking for an app that will allow me to auto backup or choose files to back up to a specified host... not to a service like drop box etc, but to a destination that I define like examplesite.com and to a directory on that host.
It would need to function much like an FTP app but would be locked to a single directory and offer a simple UI.
Anything out there that fits this?
Thanks!

tried using this app but doesnt work as its not compatible with the kernel would it be possible to get this to run on either of these roms as i cant find an alternative app that limits apps access to the internet
Many thanks for any replies
So I did a search on the market, and I found this app called ''Permissions''. It allows you to change specific permissions of an app without breaking the app or updating it through market.
I tested it on CM7, I disabled ''Flow''s permission to create network sockets (access internet), and the app ran fine but couldn't access the internet.
Only downside is you have to reboot your from within the Permissions app to apply the changes. You can make backups of permissions set and revert an app to default permissions.
And it's FREE! Anyways, hope it fits yoour needs.

thanks ill test it out main thing i didnt want going online was googles location services i hadnt used the network assisted location services because of this i found another app while searching called location cache which deletes the cache and stops the file being created again
means i can now use the phone without having to accept googles opt in only service

Where does the stock android browser save its settings? I want to access the settings file and modify it for thisgs such as desktop mode.
I am aware of the debug menu, but I am looking to modify the file that stores the settings directly. I am rooted, I just don't know where the file is stored.

Just use Dolphin HD. Stock browser isn't quite there yet.

You can recompile the frameworkres.apk, then navigate to values/strings.XML. then search for web_user_agent in that XML and change it to desktop there. Then recompile.
Is there any app that lets the user download, upload, change and browse folders (over the network. Not wired) from the PC? Not just the storage, I'm talking all folders including /system/ and /data (so if an app exists it must have superuser privilege).
Looks like not. Time to develop one! Will be free if i finish it!
ADB over wifi, but you obviously need to be familiar with terminal.
QuickSSHd or SSHDroid are what I used before

Thoroughly recommend getting clipper + from play store.
Allows you to store clippings/phrases, shows the last xx clippings and a host of other things, extremely useful

Cool, I hear ya. In my UID file I have about 50 four digit number files above the text files in image 2, that show as empty. But when you click on them, they drop you down to the last 8 files pictured on the second image. Root Explorer will not delete them either, very interesting !!!
Did some digging found out what acct/uid does : The UID or User ID of an app is set at install time of the app itself.
So, the UID for an app might be a certain number on one person's handset and an entirely different number on another person's handset. The UID is a "sandboxing" feature of Linux, and ultimately Android, that makes sure that apps cannot mess with each other's data. This means, for example, your email client app cannot look at files related to, say, your Twitter app. The files in internal storage related to an app must have the same UID as the app itself to be accessible by that app. As for files stored on a microSD card, there is no way to set a UID for them because the FAT32 file system has no ability to set UID permissions on files. That is also related to what has been in the news recently with regards to any app having access to the photographs stored on your microSD card.
