Rom toolbox - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Searched "rom toolbox" from xda app and got nothing. EDIT: found xda on TV? YouTube video on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLxRRscFLjs&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Anyone got this app? I've had it for awhile but only used it for 1 function, I just realized all its functions are equivalent to the dozen or more apps I use and not lesser in quality.
Its functions all match what I've set them to with my other apps, its smarter than I gave it credit; its over a dozen apps in 1. Including TiBu, SetCPU, apps2sd, SD boost, root browser, ad away, rebooter, font installer, a little overwhelmed by its plethora of functions

Ya, it's a cool app. Here are a couple of threads about it.

Grr I can't click them, sup with that? They're bright green.
Had to quote/copy/paste in browser; sigh. How come these links didn't come up in search?

I use ROM toolbox a lot. It is a very useful app.

Search from xda app or tapatalk app don't work.

I just found this program then, this thread.
Yes it does seem like it can the place of quite a few programs!
Including titanium backup!
I can't find what it "can't" do!?!
I'm gonna give it a couple of days to see how it runs.
If it runs without problems; then I'll be cleaning quite a few apps!
If anyone knows anything or has a bad experience, then please post!

Changed my mind on this one! I do not recommend for the SGS2. For one: to use a lot of the rom flashing features, it requires "rom manager!" (We all know what "rom manager" does to our phone!
A lot of the other features only work on other phones such as the "Droid"
I did not try the overclocking feature. I just don't mess with overclocking my phone.
Forgot to mention I paid for the full (pro) version.
There is a Font installer, but it did not work. There is a lot of font choices, and I was disappointed!
The only thing I was able to successfully do was change the boot animation. There are several pretty cool boot animations available. You do have to use
the paid version to change boot animations.
So no go on this app.
I do recommend "darky ota." I've had a lot of success with it, and everything works.

I've noticed that being able to change fonts with this app is rom dependent. Works in cm7, Not icscrewd.

I think it installs the fonts just fine, you may just need to move them to the correct folder

How to properly use Titanium Back Up??

Hey All,
I would like to ask anyone who knows how I can properly use Titanium Backup I would really appreciate it. The problem i've had before is that when ever I backup I never seem to know how to properly back up my apps so I can also back up the data like my saved games on angry birds, and my tags on sound hound. If I back up and thn restore I always mess something up and my roms end up all screwed. please some one guide me!!!!
I usually only backup user apps. Press the options button on the bottom left of the vibrant. Then choose batch, then choose backup all user apps.

Like I said though, doing that only backs up the apps but it doesn't back up the data i.e. shazam tags, etc.

the pain of setting everything up again is actually the only thing keeping me from flashing a new rom. (flashed my mytouch so much that i only kept a few apps)
and can the free version do everything the paid version can do?

thanks alot. I'll look at it now. I hate flashing ROMS sometimes because I don't get my app data. It sucks having to start Angry Birds from leverl 1 every time I flash something!
I use mybackup pro n backup apps. ..gives option to backup apk + data. Has worked well for me. Don't have re -download apps or anything.
I know this doesn't necessarily answer the question but it gives a way to backup apps+data(bookmarks, texts, call log, settings, etc)

[Q] Stock SMS App - SalsaSense-1.3 Beta

Hi everyone.
I am using the SalsaSense ROM. I am unable to post in that thread because I am new here, so I'm hoping someone here will be able to help me.
In the stock SMS app there is the option to delete old messages once a limit has been reached. I installed the ROM, recovered my messages, and enabled the option in the stock app with the limit set at 200. But my old messages are not being deleted. With one contact I have 7k+ messages, and since enabling the option I have sent and received several messages with them. When I had Elelinux-7.1.0-Hero-v2.6 installed beforehand, following these steps was enough to provoke it to keep my inbox in check. But not now.
Is this a problem with the ROM, or the stock app, or am I just unlucky?
I'm hoping someone here may have come across this and can help me out.
Many thanks, BurnseyBoi
I think you've been unlucky. It sounds like a ROM problem since it's beta.
You could delete them using an app like SuperSMS Delete (I think it's that).
Yeah, guess I'll just have to wait for an update to it. I had a look round the market and found the app you were referring to. Worked a charm, thanks very much! Now my phone is a bit speedier.
Yeah i noticed this, unfortunately its a problem with the ROM. I've got a lot of issues to iron out so it takes me a while to solve each one, rest assured though it will be fixed

I'm trying to follow the build.prop editing suggestion, but adb doesn't list my phone under connected devices. I've tried while the phone is on, and in recovery.
Is there another way of successfully editing it?
Yeah, you can use Root Explorer from the Market. ES File explorer may work too, look in the app's settings for Root options.
Navigate to the directory with the build.prop and long press and I think there's an edit option if you use Root Explorer. Then you can just edit as you would normally via the phone.
Thanks! I already had ES File Explorer, didn't realise it had root options though.
Made both changes that JieeHD suggested, then powered it off and back on. I've never seen my phone go from power button to lock screen that fast in the 2 years I've had it! I definitely notice a speed improvement from making those changes. Everything just feels sharper and more responsive.
Many thanks!

I've tried them and can confirm they do speed things up.
Wish there was some option to use a standard notification bar, I think it would help.

[Q] Question about APK files.

Hello!
First and foremost i apologize if this has already been answered (I'd guess it has since it's a pretty basic question). I tried doing various searches (here and google) and all they brought back was how to install APK files . My question is if I take an APK from my phone can I install it on another device? Sorry I'm still a bit new to Android and dont know much about how APKs work and if there is security restrictions embedded in them making them only work on the device they were downloaded to or anything of the sort.
Thanks!
To my knowledge there are no such restrictions on APKs. You can pull them from one phone to be installed on others as you see fit.
Awesome, thanks for the quick reply!

If it's system apk's you will run into issues when pulling from different phones. All really depends
Running ICScrewD ROM
yes and no. basically whats been said. a system app (aka one that i on the phone after a stock flash) will most likely not work from phone to phone unless it is the same type of phone on the same rom. however market type apps (including downloaded apps from the internet) will most likely transfer from phone to phone
Astro manager extracts non system apps you have installed into apks. Makes it ridiculously easy to send an app you have to your friends. Your app data is not included in the apk. One of the best features of astro manager in my book.
Sent from my páhhōniē
Its market apps, so i think ill be good to go! system apps i could definitely see not working though, guessing they're more hardware/system specific.
Thanks for all the responses!

(4/3/12) [App] Rom Toolbox Pro 50% off

Just FYI....Rom Toolbox Pro is currently 50% off @ Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.liberty.toolboxpro
Normally a $5.99 app now $2.99.
I highly recommend this. It is aptly named. It takes you from five or six different apps to one.
How does the backup compare to TB?
I find it to be better except for the lack of dropbox support. If you install an app, RT automatically backs it up which has saved my butt a couple times.
My only question is, is it worth it since I have TB Pro, Root Explorer, and Set CPU bought already?

Had this app a long time, it's by far the best root app out there. It's like combining those, the various apps for build.prop mods, terminal & script apps, autostarts, auto memory manager, and some of the themeing apps.
Not the worst $3 dollars your ever gonna spend

I bought this app and love it as it literally got rid of about 8 apps for me. Does rooted stock support the ability to change icons such as the battery or usb connected?

Yes and no. Lets say market gets updated to play. ROM Toolbox then creates a backup of Play as soon as it's installed.
Grabbed this on Lokifishes recommendation. Replaces a few apps I've already bought. It also seems like it doesn't really do a lot of the Rom managing stuff itself but I'll have to look deeper into that.
Fyi - if you are on any version of cyanogenmod. If you want to install a font, you need to choose your font, apply it, cancel the reboot, install the font again, decline the reboot, then manually reboot. If you don't do this, there is a 95.73859% chance your phone will bootloop.
Cheers

I have my TB backup every night. So my app data is never lost.
Anyone else getting an error when trying to undervolt with this app? Using Loki's 1.0.4 with jokers 1.3 kernel.

What do you lose when leaving stock OS (Touchwiz)?

Hello,
I've been on stock kernel/OS since I bought my unbranded I9100 some time ago, that means Gingerbread 2.3.4, I9100XXKI1, Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575468 (rooted, of course).
I'm thinking about trying CM9 or CM10, just for fun. I think I know pretty well what to expect, but am trying to figure out if there are things I will be missing. As far as I can tell, the following will change significantly:
- Touchwiz launcher replaced, of course. No biggie.
- Swype will be gone, right? I played around with CM way back, and there seemed to be some discussions about how to take Swype with you, but I assume this will be rather hard when going from Gingerbread to JB? Or is there a good way to keep it (without buying it separately)? I like it rather a lot...
- The four hubs (Social Hub etc.) will be gone. Good riddance, as well, I've never used any of them.
- I've not used any of the Samsung remote features (to locate a stolen/lost device; OTA, or KIES), so I guess they will be gone, but I won't miss them.
Is there anything else I've missed that's been added by Samsung? I want to avoid a problem where I don't actually notice anything important missing at first, and then noticing weeks later...
Thank you for your time!
I noticed my camera was missing on one of them.

No tv out. No fm radio. If swype is the keyboard typing style, i dont think thats gone, but i will check.
Camera is still better in stock touchwiz. Also, clear ram from recent apps isnt there.

You could use titanium backup to backup all of your (system) apps. If something (important) turns out to be missing, you can restore it easily. Apart from that, flash it, you won't be disappointed. Good luck with exploring all the possibilities.

Apps only in touchwiz wont work in aosp roms since they are deeply integrated within the touchwiz framework, so no use backup app system apps nor system data. Restoring system data may cause problems ranging from bootloops to force closes.

Alright, the clock. I use that a lot, all of it (alarm + timer + stopwatch). That would be a bummer to loose, I guess there will be some useful replacements on the market though.
There are plenty of camera apps around. Can I safely assume that the picture quality (as it is) will be the same as with the stock camera app? I use the camera for taking pictures, I need no effects, online stuff etc. around photos. In fact I am not that happy with the stock camera, as I find it tough to shoot a photo when I don't see the screen... so I'll be happy to hunt for a camera app that supports some of the hardware buttons for shooting.
