Editing Android .img files - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having the hardest time finding some program to be able to open and edit the system.img and data.img on my Mac, or my PC or in Ubuntu. It's pissing me off hardcore.
When I try to mount them in OSX it says there are no mount points. In Windows it just gives me an error, alone with Ubuntu. If anyone can help me out, that would be great. It's impossible to port anything without being able to edit these. Thanks

Mounting ms_.nbf on Windows?

Hi,
does anyone know if there is a way to mount the extended ROM image under Windows?
I tried UWIN from Windows (from AT&T research), it seemed quite promising but I always got a "resource busy" error. Also the mount command is different from Linux, maybe I did some mistake...
I also tried Windows Services for Unix but MS's mount command is unable to mount files.
Does anyone know a tool or method to mount or edit that ROM under Windows?
Thanks,
Jeff

[Q] iMac refuses to ADB

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section but I am trying to perma-temp root my lovely EVO 3D and every time I run the script made for mac I get ADB permission denied. I ran the .bat file on my windows virtual machine and get the same error.
When I BOOTCAMP into windows it is fully functional (I rooted the phone there) I was just curious if there was a fix any of you know of other than reinstalling the OSX.
Thanks and sorry if this needs to be moved,

Apple and Google hate each other...that's the answer.
(Seriously, I can't help you...I'm just being a dork)
Have you looked here?

CDROM.iso

It was extremely annoying at first when my phone would constantly mount the stupid VZW software install CDROM, so I deleted the CDROM.iso..
but then today when I couldn't find a blank CD to install Ubuntu on another computer, I thought for one sec that I might just be able to rename the installer iso to CDROM.iso and place it in /system/etc/
It didn't work...
Has anybody else ever replaced this with another image and gotten it to show up on the computer when they plugged the phone in? Do you know if I need to make the image into a particular format first?
I was also thinking it could be cool to put adb, fastboot, drivers and a few other important tools on a custom CDROM.iso. Maybe even a damn small linux boot disk?
Nevermind i'm a Retard.
I just needed to capitalize the extension and make it CDROM.ISO

Click to collapse
This works? That'd be sweet. No more noobs asking how to get adb and fastboot working !!
Yup it does work but so far I haven't been able to get a computer to boot the Ubuntu CD. But once the computer is booted, it does pop up with the ubuntu installer as if I just inserted the CD.

Remove HTC Sync Manager partition?

Hi everyone.
I've noticed when I connect my phone to my computer it asks if I want to install HTC Sync Manager... Which I don't. I looked in my computer to see that their is a partition with the install files on then the rest of my memory card.
What I want to know is, How do I remove this without having to format the whole memory?
Also, When I view my pictures the thumbnails do not show up. Is there something to fix this as they worked on my old Sensation.
Thanks in advance for your help.
I would like to know about this too, erasing the whole phone doesn't erase the HTC partition.

the rom viperx+ has this function
You cant "erase" it, you can remove the sync manager .iso image in /etc, but virtual CD will still get mounted.
And yea, we gave option inside ViperX+ rom to disable it via services tweak
I think it's useful to have the virtual CD, easy to get the drivers installed when connecting the phone to a computer that does not yet have the drivers. I have my Windows configured to not auto-play, so it doesn't bother me that a virtual CD shows up when I connect the phone to the computer.
Also I found a nice solution if you like to charge your phone with your Mac OS powered device:
Create new /etc/fstab or edit existing with following lines
Code:
# Identifier, mount point, fs type, options1
LABEL=HTC\040Sync\040Manager none hfs rw,noauto
It now will not mount Sync partition anymore

[Q] (Q) is there an all in one root tool for mac users

just wondering if theres a root tool for mac users and if not will one be coming anytime soon
mod can you move this to the right section just realized where i posted
I'm new to Samsung but I'm going to say no. Of all the reading I've been doing about Odin (I previously only used HTC devices) is that it is windows only. And if you are going to do anything with a Samsung phone you need Odin.
There were plenty of solutions for Mac with HTC as long as you knew the correct adb commands with terminal. Going to have to setup boot camp on the old iMac downstairs to run windows. Still have a copy of XP. No way I'm wasting any disk space on my Mac air for windows.
I booted and rooted inside of parallels on windows 7 with ease. Only hiccup is I needed to move the files to a differebr folder other thanbmy documents
