[Q] Top 1/4 of touchscreen goes dead randomly - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I just picked up my prime yesterday (2nd one, 1st one stopped taking a charge), and today randomly the top 1/4 of the screen goes dead. It does not responds to any touch at all. I can wait a couple of minutes and sometimes it comes back, or if I reboot it works fine for awhile then it goes dead again..
I have factory reset the prime and it works fine for a few minutes and then it goes dead again...
Anyone else have the same problem?
Walkamo

Had similar on a OG TF -- one of the ribbon cables inside are probably lose. This can happen to most electronic devices now're days, including my ancient laptops keyboard!
You should likely RMA, or exchange it at the store you bought it. The latter would be faster if you're still in your window for it.

Anyone that bought a prime from Bestbuy that has no issues?

It seems that all the primes that I have tested from Bestbuy (4 primes and counting) have no satellite locks and only decent wifi. Please only post if you have received a good tablet with no issues from them.
I have purchased two of them from Best Buy, one I received on the 22nd and the other I purchased it two days ago from my local best buy, the first and only one they have received My first one is "perfect", but my 2nd one has two hardly noticeable screen bleeds which are only really distinguishable if you know were to look (bottom left corner under the return arrow and the recent app button) and one would only spot them during the boot up screen. They are both able to acquire a GPS lock, even indoors but once I move it the connection is lost, outside I can walk and it stays connected for the most part; however, I have not really tested the GPS function while driving (I will try it today... if I remember too but I don't have much hope for it which is why I purchased the $5 GPS workaround). They both get good wifi, by this I mean that anywhere my phone (HD7) is in range so are my primes if my phone is out of range so are my primes and they both get about the same speed. No freezing issues... ok the stock web browser does freeze but rarely maybe once every other day or so and most of the time I just hit wait and it comes back to live. Over all I love my primes/prime my first one is busted until Asus unlocks the boot loader, I just hope its before my 45 days are up or I will be stuck with 2 primes
It took both my primes about a good 5min to get a GPS lock with wifi outside, could not get either one to even see a satellite indoors before getting a lock outside. I originally tried to acquire a GPS lock without wifi outside on my 1st prime but gave up after 5 min. I also tried it with my 2nd one but no luck; although it did see around 5-7 satellites after the first 3min and up to 9 satellites at one point but after 10min and no lock I turned on the wifi and got a lock with in a minute. After that I was able to get a lock indoors with in 3-5 min
Bought from best buy december 23, no problems at all.

No problems with mine.
None of the common problems
I got mine from BB.com about 2 weeks ago. The device was working 100% fine. GPS was solid, WIFI was great. There was a tiny bit of screen leak in the lower corners, but nothing that I could not live with.
The "un-common" problem occurred when I got my dock...also from BB.com. When I inserted the tablet into the dock the screen would white out, almost like it had its brightness turned up to 1000. I was also able to replicate the problem out of the dock by placing minor pressure at the center of the bottom bezel near the charging port. I have RMA'd it and just put it on a UPS truck today. I will let everyone know how I make out.
Bought mine from Best Buy. Outside of the GPS issue mine is great. WiFi seems fine...on par with my phone/laptop, so no complaints.
Bought mine no wifi,no gps issue, but a tiny bit of screen bleed, but i can live with that. Got my keyboard but i returned it., dont really need one
Proud owner of Transformer Prime TF201
Received mine yesterday from BB online... not problems as of yet. Haven't had the chance to fully test the GPS. I've looked closely and can't find any dead pixels or screen bleed. No creaks in the chassis, and on wifi at home was getting 18mbit down, 5 up (which is about right, I pay for 20mbit down 5mbit up)
No issues here, it has worked great
Aside from some very minor light bleeding on the right side of the screen, no problems at all.
No issues with mine. I did think that the prime was a tad slower browsing the internet than the OG transformer, but seems to have been cleared after the updates.
...but the OG transformer was running Revolver, oc'd...
Mine is fine.
Tablet & dock from BB.com.

Good to hear. Im going on my third next week from Bestbuy, I thought since they havent had any instock, all the stock in the warehouse for OMS orders are from the same batch. So there is still hope.
Just out of curiosity why are you asking if BB ones are good or not since they all come from asus directly? I'd would worry more about first batch vs 2nd batch.
I got one from BB.com around Jan 12. The screen seems good, no bleed or dead pixels, bt/wifi speed drop seems to be in line with what would be expected, and GPS performs as expected. GPS is not great but does get a lock, though it loses the lock when driving.
I'm not sure about the WIFI performance though. It is fast when signal is strong but when I get near the edge of its range it drops out dramatically faster than either my phone or my old viewsonic gtablet. The TFP gets <1mbps while the gtab still gets >10mbps. Does this sound in line with what other users are getting, or would a replacement possibly fix the issue? The signal strength according to WIFI Analyser is about the same from all three devices when doing the test. If this is the expected performance I'll be returning it to wait for the TF700 later this year. I'd rather get one that works well now though, as it is a great device and I could care less about the higher res screen and camera.
I, no issues form my BB purchase, aside from the weak gps obviously.
Bought mine from best buy before the new year and have had absolutely no issues at all. Wifi has been great (picks up college wifi which at my school has a history of being ****ty). Gps I only tested once, which was the same day I got it, and it never completely connected. Keep in mind that was indoors. I never would use GPS on my tablet so idc. But besides that no screen bleeding or tearing. Got the dock as well and must say I love this tablet. Much faster and not even comparable build quality to my old Gtab 10.1. My only complaint is I wish the micro SD card slot was actually built so it could hold a micro SD card all the time, but oh well I'm happy

I did until I bricked it
Purchased another Prime from Micro Center yesterday. I'm not sure yet it's as responsive as the one I had from BB.

Backpacker in trouble- touch screen issue

Hey guys, I'm in a bind here and I was hoping the accumilated knowledge and experience of people 'round here could help me out.
I am backpacking through south east asia with my trusty prime as my link to the world and it has so far been a wonderful travel companion, but I fear that my Prime's screen has lost touch functionality again (third time), only this time it's refusing to get fixed.
First time was fixed by a simple cold boot but seemed to be a result of pressure on the back cover of the tablet (I sat on it.. A little..)
The second time couldn't be fixed by normal or cold reboots and was only fixed when I undocked the tablet and gave it a cold reboot, as if the dock was somehow affecting the state of the touch screen.
The third time is the weirdest- I was doing some reading using the Prime undocked, touch was working fine, and then upon docking it, the screen stopped responding.
This time normal resets and cold boots aren't having any effect, docking and undocking isn't either, and I'm about to try a factory reset but I doubt it'll have any effect.
This started about 4 months ago, with the second incident about two months ago, and the third one last week.
Inbetween incidents the screen works wonderfully.
My problem is I am traveling through south east asia for a few months, and I won't be able to return it to best buy.
What is this problem, hardware or software? Can anyone make any sense of it?
Any suggestions?
I've tried rebooting, cold booting, draining the battery, leaving it off for a while, and I'm about to do a factory reset.
What's even weirder- the GPS, which was completely dead since day 1, now works.
Thank you all,
Eliad.

Humidity?
Perhaps you can try and put it in a warm, dry place with a lot of rice (should be easy to access there).
Just a thought... good luck.
My best guess is the cable inside is loose and no longer having a solid connection to the mainboard. The OS would detect it on a reboot since the cable inside would loosely reconnect, but it refuses now because it's out too much. That's my take.
If you're feeling brave pop it open and look. I don't picture it randomly failing but these digitizers are renowned pieces of ****. If you're in a humid area do what the above poster suggested.

Nah, I don't think it has to do with humidity... The cable theory sounds reasonable enough though.
Thanks.
P.S- Opening it up and messing with it will void my warrenty, won't it?

Quick update for all who may search for more info on the issue, who may find this thread by searching for it-
Today, after over a month of no response from the touchscreen, it magically started working again..
I have tried hard resets, I have tried factory resets, to no avail.
I started looking for repair centers in south east asia in hopes of being able to get it fixed, but that never seemed to work out well.
In my despair I was starting to consider opening up the tablet and attempting to examin the touchscreen myself.
But as I said it magically started working again. The factors who I believe might have contributed to that are these-
I have given up on the touchscreen after failing to fix it with a factory reset, and had resumed using the tablet by using the dock. Recently, though, I have started using it as an e-book reader, using it undocked and flipping pages with the volume buttons.
I was using it today to read a book in tablet mode for a few hours, when the battery ran out. I then plugged it in to the dock, which was charged, and on a hunch gave it a cold reboot. The tablet started up and the touchscreen was fixed.
I believe using it undocked and draining the battery might have been the two contributing factors, although it is unclear how any of it could have effected the touchscreen functionality in any way...
Oh well...

Dock problem (ASUS PRIME)

My dock only connects sometimes, usually after it's been disconnected for a while and i unlock it.
But at times i try to unlock it and it simply won't work at all.
The prime itself has no problem with connectivity it seems, it connects to chargers and to USB for file transfers no problem, it's just the dock it has a problem with.
Also sometimes it'll say it's connected but only the keys will work, not the trackpad or buttons on it.
I have tried 3 docks, one for the tf201 and two for the tf300, all have the same symptom and none offer anything more than a sporadic connection.
Having it charged makes no difference at all.
My prime has been sent back to asus twice now already.
Has anyone had a similar issue?
Running Androwook v2.0, Android 4.2.
I've already asked in the thread and no one has said that they're having anything similar, this problem also was persistent on other versions of android and even on the stock rom.
Any help is appreciated.
I'm having a similar problem. The keyboard randomly stops typing. All I have to do is detach the tablet, and put it back to fix it, but that's very annoying. It happens a lot.
I'm completely stock, and have done a factory reset, but it didn't help.

Yea i'm having the same issue kind of, for me if it's on and i disconnect it and reconnect it it will continue to work, if i leave it off for a bit then it might decide not to work, I've already RMA'd mine twice and i simply can't be bothered doing it again.
My mate has asked me to swap it for his Sony tab, not the xperia Z one the one before it, i might actually do it cos this is just getting to be a joke.
EDIT: Just had a look at the Sony tablet S section and it's like a ghost town, i think i'll be keeping my Prime until i can at least afford to buy another one, i'm getting the HTC One next over the s4, Sammy has burnt it's own bridges by not letting the UK have the octa core version.
As far as the prime is concerned, if i send it off again, I have no idea what condition it'll come back in, plus i'm doubting that it will have ICS on it like it did when i got it back this time.

[SOLVED] ASUS PadFone X Tablet Dock Won't Respond

Hi. My name is Grayson Peddie and I am having a major problem with my tablet dock. My smartphone is working just fine. There are no damages to either the tablet or the dock. I would also say that the internals of the smartphone is fine, too, but about the tablet, here goes my explanation:
I purchased ASUS PadFone X as of July 1, 2014 and received it a couple of days later and I loved it. The tablet dock worked meaning my smartphone vibrated when plugged into the dock until now, when the dock starts to become less responsive (meaning the backlight stays on after a phone is removed) and then it went dead on me with no light turning on when plugged into a dedicated USB charger. But before the dock went dead on me, recently (probably yesterday) the buttons in the dock stopped working even though the screen is on. So after the light and the screen won't come on, when I plug my smartphone into the dock, it's not vibrating. I remove my smartphone from the dock and I saw a spinning circle (dynamic display kicking in) until I see my Android home screen; the smartphone's Android screen switched on quickly.
So my question is, is there anyway to get my dock repaired? I don't want to send in my smartphone for replacement. Ugh... I have never need to send my Nexus 4 and 7 for replacement in the past...

No, not rooted, but I did disable Browser Bar... I don't know what that is for... A couple of weeks ago, I have also disabled a couple of AT&T applications that I don't care for (FamilyMap, Locker, and Mobile Locate) and Beats Music. I'm not sure if a Browser Bar is an AT&T application, though...
But then I don't think disabled applications have anything to do with my docking tablet. The light won't come on at all when plugged into a USB charger, let alone smartphone not vibrating when docked.
I found a problem! If you drop a tablet dock, the back cover can become unsnapped even though it stays intact. Once I squeeze the back of my tablet near the center of the dock, lo and behold! The red light came on with the USB plugged in! I docked my smartphone into my tablet dock! My phone vibrated! The screen came on! YES! It's working!!!
Okay, so what I can say is this: Due to the lack of build quality of PadFone X Dock, care must be taken to not drop the tablet, or the dock will not work after a few days of use. Had I mentioned that I dropped my tablet once, I would have gotten an obvious response that I should not drop my tablet in the first place. Well, I've dropped my Nexus 7 tablet and Nexus 4 smartphone a couple of times and it is still working! Even my PadFone X smartphone, so why not the dock? I'm so embarrassed that I've started my thread about my issue. Embarrassing.

Returns

Has anyone had to return their Moto 360 yet? Mine stopped responding to touch on the bottom 1/3 of the screen near the beginning of this week. I had a pattern lock set up and couldn't get past it as the bottom was unresponsive. After a few attempts the factory reset screen came up but the accept button was on the bottom. After a few minutes of tapping it finally recognize one and performed a factory reset. Upon reboot the bottom was still unresponsive.
I called Moto support and they are sending me a new one. They offered to have me send in my current one first and then send me a new one, or put a $99 hold on my credit card and pay $24.99 for shipping. I went for the latter and a new one will be shopping soon.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had screen issues and how wide spread it is. Also has anyone had any issues with returns?
Anyone?
None here... Yet!
I was in a meeting 2 weeks ago and checked the time and my whole screen was unresponsive, just a black screen even with always on mode enabled. I tried for like 20 minutes to get it to respond to touch and nothing. I got home and thought the battery might be dead even though I only had it on for 10 hours so I put it in it's charging craddle and still nothing. I went to get my phone to check bluetooth and it said watch was connected, checked android wear and it said connected too. Went back to get the watch and it was now on and showing 50% battery. This was 2 weeks ago and haven't had the problem re-occur. I paid for the extended warranty plan so not to concerned right now, and as I already scratched the screen I will most likely replace it anyways.

My 360 did get a little sluggish at times and froze a couple of times prior to the final issues I had with the bottom. I also had a message on occasion saying android wear had stopped and would eventually restart. When I had a freeze holding down the power button will eventually do a restart. All of those issues I attributed to buggy software that I hope gets solved in future updates. My final issue involving the bottom portion being unresponsive persisted after a factory reset.

I never had an issue with it before this happened. And holding the button down didn't do anything for for me, it still remained off even after holding it for over a minute. It just came back on all on its own for whatever reason and luckily hasn't happened again.
Well this isn't looking good. Spent two hours on the phone with Motorola support and was transferred about seven times before someone could figure out what happened to my RMA. I did finally get someone to help me but she had to start the whole process over. My credit card was refunded for the hold and shipping fee and the new one is now supposed to be "rushed".
Just an update
At this point I have spoken to over a dozen reps(I lost count), was transferred back and forth between several departments, was hung up on several times(I even switched phones to make sure it wasn't on my end), and spent countless hours trying to get this resolved. I've never had such horrible customer service. Finally yesterday I received an email with a working promo code for a new watch using the moto-maker site and am crossing my fingers I'll have a new one soon.
Sorry for the rant, I actually started this thread to see how many had any hardware problems, not to complain about Moto support. I was actually hopeful about the whole thing as there wasn't much response to my original inquiry here, but this last week has really turned me off of Motorola.
Update: New 360 arrived today.
My Moto's touch stopped working yesterday. It started with "phantom touches", where the display lighted up as if I touched it. When I actually touched the display, it was partially unresponsive. When I tried swiping, the menus stuck in between and were shaking horizontally. I could hard-reset the watch by pressing the button for 30 seconds. After that, the watch was working fine for a few minutes, then the trouble started all over again. Today, it got even worse as the display did not react on any touches any more...
I was able to reset it to factory settings, but it didn't help, so it does not seem to be a software issue.
Luckily I had ordered it at Amazon a few weeks ago, so I am getting a new watch as replacement. I hope I just had bad luck with that watch, and it's not a general issue.

That's what I am hoping as you and I are the only ones responding with problems so far. As you can see from my other posts I don't think Motorola even knew how to handle a return for one of these. Amazon should be a much more pleasant experience in that regard.
Did you get any type of additional warranty from Amazon?

No... I made the experience that Amazon Germany often just sends out a replacement when an article is defective a few days after delivery. They never fail to impress me with their customer service...
Going through this a second time really sucks. Last week my watch was on the charger all night and by morning the screen had a cyan dot that was dark in the middle and faded to black near the edge of the face. I tried holding down the side button to reset it but it still booted up to the cyan dot.
I started the process last Friday and got a promo code for a new watch. Used the promo code on the Moto Maker website and got the process going. At the end I hit the place order button and I get an error message telling me to call support. Ugh. I didn't have time to deal with it then, but my shopping cart was still showing the watch in it and that there was an order placed. I called today and at first the woman helping me couldn't find anything using the RMA # or the order number I had. When she finally figured out what happened she said the order didn't go through and my promo code was still good. She then tried to blame the error on my web browser.
I have seen news floating around there is currently a lawsuit against Lenovo\Motorola for failure to fulfill their warranties. Is it okay to post information and links on xda concerning the lawsuit for anyone who might be interested?
